A/N: Sorry this is so late. I have been dealing with some medical stuff and it kind of consumed the entire last week. Hope you enjoy!

A/N2: A shoutout to my anonymous reviewer! More on the Wizard soon. ;) Thanks so much!

Chapter 11

"Sergeant Zeki is in need of your talents, Miss Elphaba!" Lieutenant Zetti burst into Morrible's office, where the royals were holding their meeting, Private Schultz was with him.

"What is the meaning of this?" King Tahir wanted to know.

"What's wrong?" Elphaba ignored Fiyero's father.

"He's not regaining strength and the medical staff is worried he's still bleeding somewhere or has an infection," Zetti explained.

"Damn," the green woman swore as she stood from her chair.

"Where are you going?" Queen Ayla asked. They were far from done with their conversation.

"The Sergeant needs me. He almost died once already. I'm not giving up on him now," Elphaba quickly left the room before anyone else could object. Private Schultz and Lieutenant Zetti were on her heels as the three rushed to reach the injured man.

"I'm probably going to get into a lot of trouble for this but the Private said that Zeki is not in a good way," Zetti said as they were heading for the medical tent.

"Saving a life is more important than my meeting. No matter who the meeting was with," Elphaba told him. They made quick work of the distance and were greeted by Doctor Talib at the front of the tent.

"He keeps slipping in and out of consciousness. His forehead is burning up. We've done everything we can do, short of opening him up, in an effort to break the fever," Talib explained as they walked back to the quiet location they'd given the officer. It had been the last little room so he wasn't interrupted too much by passing staff.

"Ok, get him on a table. I'm going to have to try and perform another healing spell over the original wound site," Elphaba told him. The doctor quickly ordered his staff to do as the green woman asked. The nurses and assistants moved him from the bed to a table that had been brought into the room, in case surgery needed to be performed in the end.

"You don't know which it is, could the spell backfire?" Private Schultz asked.

"The location of what is going on is still the same. We should be good. I'd really like to avoid cutting him open because that could only lead to more trouble," she explained as she rolled up her sleeves. The Private nodded and backed away so she could do her work.

"Hang in there Sergeant. I'm going to perform another healing spell. This is going to hurt," Elphaba warned him. Doctor Talib put a leather strap between the Sergeant's teeth so he didn't bite his own tongue and the green woman held her hands over the wound site and began chanting in a tongue that only she could understand.

Zeki bit into the leather and his screams were muffled by the rawhide. Elphaba's hands glowed as she continued to chant. There was definitely something that was missed with the first spell as she watched her magic work. The Sergeant passed out and the doctor removed the strap so the officer could breathe without any obstructions. Talib checked the patient's forehead and it was cooler than it was before. Whatever magic the green woman was using, it was working.

"The spell is done," Elphaba lowered her hands and took a few deep breaths.

"His fever has broken. We'll keep a close eye on him," Talib promised.

"Do not hesitate to get me again if need be. The wound must have been much deeper than we originally thought," she said.

"You practically brought him back from the dead before. Maybe it just required a little more of your powerful magic," Schultz spoke up as he quickly offered her a chair, which she gratefully accepted.

"Are you ok?" Zetti asked her.

"Tired. I haven't slept and I used a lot of magic," Elphaba said.

"I prescribe some sleep then," Doctor Talib said.

"I have to get back to the meeting with the King and Queen," she told them.

"No, you do not," there in the doorway, stood Queen Ayla.

"Your Majesty!" Zetti squeaked. Everyone in the room quickly bowed. Elphaba stood up too fast and practically collapsed onto the floor. Private Schultz moved swiftly out of his bow and caught her.

"Someone get that woman a bed," the Queen ordered. Doctor Talib's staff quickly fetched an extra bed and the Private helped Elphaba into it.

"Leave us," Ayla said, taking a seat in the chair that the green woman had been sitting in and moving it next to the bed. Quickly the room emptied, though Private Schultz and Lieutenant Zetti stayed outside the doorway to act as protection for the Royal Vinkun.

"Your Majesty…" Elphaba tried.

"Miss Elphaba, rest. You have done much for the people of Oz but none more so than my son," Ayla said. The green woman's eyes went wide.

"You think I didn't notice the way he looked at you?" The queen asked.

"I…" again the royal shushed her.

"Do you have the same feelings for him?" Ayla wanted to know. Elphaba nodded.

"Good. Now rest. We will talk again soon," the Queen smiled before lifting herself from the chair and leaving the room. Elphaba passed out, her last thought was, have I just gotten Fiyero into trouble?
