Epilogue
Elphaba had tried talking to Glinda about the court's decision over the next few days. The blonde had just been glad that the decision had been taken out of her hands. In the beginning of this entire thing, it looked like the current leader of Oz would be forced to decide the fate of the Wizard but being able to get a defense attorney to represent him in court had solved the issue. Still, Elphaba worried that the execution of the man formerly known as the Wizard, would just make him a martyr to the cause. It was then that Glinda reminded her, that no matter the decision on the Wizard's fate, someone would always label the man a martyr. In the end, the Wizard would no longer be a part of Oz and eventually he would fade into the history books. However, in the meantime, they'd be left to clean up the mess he left behind.
"She's right, you know. If she banished him, Glinda would look weak while actual Ozians would die for the same crime. If she had ordered the execution, then there would be protests from the remaining followers, claiming it wasn't legal or just. Since the court was used to issue his punishment, there is only the possible appeal. None of the other defendants have been successful in their attempts to gain an appeal. Probably the only weird thing has been that the Wizard hasn't attempted to gain an appeal," Fiyero said to Elphaba. They had moved into a room inside the Palace and he was seated on the bed, while she looked out the window to see the construction being done further down on the building. The damaged building was well on its way to becoming a safe structure and would soon be able to be fully occupied again.
"I suppose she is. I just worry that we haven't seen the last of his rabid followers. We have a lot of healing to do," she turned around and headed over to him.
"Mom and Dad are heading home by the end of the week. They said that they will send fresh troops to replace those that have helped us, but I told them that once we finish the executions that we should have enough Gale Force. Still, I think they are nervous about leaving us possibly shorthanded," he told her as he pulled her onto his lap. Those that had lost their possibility of appeal were now having execution dates set and executions were actively taking place.
"We have Chistery and his brethren on top of the reduced numbers of prisoners, I think we'll be ok," she said as she put her head on his shoulder.
"I told them that. Then they told me that I needed to bring you on my next trip home," Fiyero kissed the top of her head before she sat up and gave him a look.
"Out of the pan and into the fire huh?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Mom loves you, who you kidding?" He chuckled.
"I'm not Princess material Yero," Elphaba said.
"You're my Princess. That's the only thing that matters to me," this just caused Elphaba to roll her eyes before he pulled her close again.
"We can't spend the night this way, you know," she said after a few minutes of silence. Despite it not being possible with his skinny frame, the green woman wondered if she was crushing him.
"Admittedly not, but this was the first chance I got to just hold you in quite a while. What are the chances that we get a nice quiet night together?" He wondered.
"Now that you've asked?" She chuckled. Fiyero smirked and rolled them over, so she was on her back and he was on top of her. There was a waggle of his eyebrows.
"Ok so if we're going to make our own noise, I'm wearing too much clothing," Elphaba smirked.
"Yes, you are," Fiyero chuckled and started working on her dress. The night was spent together, though how much sleeping had happened would be debatable later. Still there was a long road ahead to heal not just a few people but all of the people and Animals in Oz but that was for the next morning.
The End
