Dawn of a new time
Shota Aizawa was tired. The reason why he was so exhausted was because he stayed up half the night compiling together a full report on Henry Clarke. Or to the public, Englander.
Principal Nezu called him around 10 o'clock at night to ask for him to get some information about Henry and get it ready for the meeting with UA staff.
As he walked up some stairs in the school, he noticed Present Mic and the support class teacher Higari Haijima or also known as Power Loader talking. Present Mic was the first to notice the sleepy hero.
"Hey Eraser! How you doing my dude!" Present Mic got close to Shota and went to go give him a high five. But Shota passed by him, completely ignoring Mic's attempt to greet him.
"If you don't mind Mic, I want to get this meeting over with. I had to stay up late to compile a report for the meeting," Aizawa open the sliding door to the meeting room. Leaving the two UA teachers behind.
"We should get going Mic. We don't want to keep the others waiting for us," Power Loader told the noisy hero.
"Ok Power Loader, let's get going! YA!" Present Mic pointed his finger guns at Power Loader in a comedic way. The support class teacher rolled his eyes and walked into the meeting room with Mic behind him.
Principal Nezu sat in his big chair with a bright smile feeling really energized and positive. Aizawa however sat in his chair with droopy eyes, still feeling sleepy from last night.
The meeting room consisted of rescue hero Thirteen that wore an astronaut type suit, the blood hero Vlad King, shooting hero Snipe, All Might in his deflated form, Present Mic and Eraser head, R-rated hero Midnight, and finally school nurse Recovery Girl.
All UA staff members waited in silence for Nezu to speak. Some other UA teachers weren't able to make it to the meeting because of hero work or personal reason.
"As many of you know, the great war hero Englander is alive. This isn't some person pretending be him. This is the real Henry Clarke. Recovery Girl, Eraserhead, you may start your presentation," Nezu told the two teachers.
The lights turned off thanks to Eraserhead. Recovery Girl walked next to a screen with a tablet in her hand, she pressed a button on the tablet to activate a screen that displayed a picture of Henry from 1917 and a picture of Henry in present day Cambrai.
"Thanks to the doctors at the Cambrai medical hospital. I was able to check if this was the real Henry by testing his blood and comparing it to his old blood records from 1916."
"What did you find out Recovery Girl?" Vlad King asked.
"He checks out, this is the real Henry. I did some more digging and discovered a lot about his quirk. Notes from the British science division called his quirk: Force."
Snipe decided to add in on the conversation, "I saw it first hand, whenever those bad guys shot at Henry. The bullets would either ricochet off or stop on impact on his invisible shield. Kid knows how to fight too; freaking broke a guy's hand."
This caused some of the teachers to cringe. Englander was considered a hero by many, but the truth was he killed a lot of people during the war. However, that didn't change UA teachers view on the young man.
It was a time of war which meant people were going to die.
"I wouldn't be surprised Snipe; he was trained to become a soldier and was motivated to defend his country from Germany. From what I read from Aizawa's report, Henry discovered his quirk around the age of 5 from the British scientist's notes. That would give him enough time to practice his quirk till perfection," All Might told his fellow teacher.
Recovery Girl decided to continue, "As I read in the notes about Henry's quirk. I found out that whenever Henry uses his quirk, he uses his calories as a form of energy. Which means that he must eat to keep his body and quirk fueled. Over use of his quirk could cause internal damage to his body."
"Explains why he ate all that hospital food in a matter of minutes," Present Mic spoke out causing Midnight to giggle.
When she brought in some Jell-O, a small sandwich with apple juice. Henry took a bite out of the sandwich. After the first bite, Henry went to town on the hospital food which caused Mic to be a little disgusted by the way the young solider ate.
"Thank you, Recovery Girl, Eraserhead?" Nezu said. Aizawa took out his tablet and hit a button which changed from Henry's medical records to military service records.
"From what I gathered on Henry's last sighting; it was during the second battle of Cambrai. Not much is known because most soldiers that fought with him were killed. However, a medic during the battle of Cambrai claimed to see Henry."
Midnight perked up, "What did this man say?"
"He said while he was injured in battle from a grenade, he got a good view on Englander. The medic said that when Englander moved forward towards the enemy positions. A hail of artillery rained on him and caused the medic to take cover. Once he opened up his eyes…Englander was gone. The medic suffered a massive concussion causing his claim to be a lie."
Everybody in the room watched as the screen changed to the aftermath to the battle. Even though the allied forces won the battle and took the town of Cambrai.
The battlefield was littered with bodies of dead men. Some were missing limbs or their heads blown off from machine gun fire or shrapnel from bombs.
This brought the mood in the room to a low. The thought of young kids fighting and dying made them sick to their stomachs.
Aizawa decided to continue so his fellow teachers wouldn't have to think about the bodies, "My thesis is that Henry was knocked out by the artillery and some how activated his quirk without knowing. He must have gone into a statis like state and was buried under the dirt, due to the constant artillery barrages from the Germans."
"So, your saying Henry froze himself like that comic book hero Captain America did?" Present Mic asked, causing Aizawa to be annoyed by the comic book reference.
"Yes Mic…just like Captain America."
Mic immediately did a flashy pose and again pointed his fingers guns at the tired teacher, "Hell cool!"
Power loader rolled his eyes with Snipe shaking his head in disappointment. Nezu and All Might chuckled feeling a little better from their previous mood.
Nezu smiled at the two presenters, "Thank you Eraser Head and Recovery Girl for that wonderful presentation. You may return to your seats; I will like to discuss about Henry's future."
Aizawa and Recovery Girl walked back to their seats feeling good about themselves. Midnight straightened up to listen Nezu's announcement, Midnight had a hard time sleeping because she wanted to talk about Henry's situation.
"The situation with Henry has become worse than we thought."
"What do you mean sir?" All Might asked.
"The British Government has banned Henry from coming back to England. Apparently, they don't want a hero that could be a danger to the public. Believing that Englander is not a symbol of hope, but a symbol of destruction."
Midnight felt her anger rise in her. Henry has every right to go back home after everything he has done to win the war, "How could they do that to Henry!? A symbol of destruction? What a load of bullshit!"
Thirteen put her hand on her friends' shoulder to calm her down, "Midnight calm down, I'm mad to but we can't change the UK's decision. That would have to be up to the Prime Minister to convince House of Commons to allow Henry back into England."
Midnight's anger lowered thanks to Thirteen's happy nature. All Might felt the same way as Midnight, after everything Henry has done for his country. This is how they treat him? Banning him from ever returning back home.
"So, what will happen to Henry now?" Vlad asked.
"He will be living at the dorms here in UA for now, but I could feel that he is not happy with how Her Majesty's Government is treating him. I sense his anger and dread from my conversation with him from yesterday."
All of the heroes noticed how sad Nezu was, but this was different. He looked…depressed, saddened from the UK's decision to keep Henry out of England. Henry was now under his care.
"Poor boy, no one not even him should be banned from their home like that. But that's politics for you," Recovery Girl chimed in.
Midnight looked to her phone to see it was time to head over to check on Henry. Today she would be showing Henry the new world and introduce him to the fun things kid his age would do.
"I'm sorry everyone but I have to go see Henry now, I'm taking him to the mall to get some decorations for his room and have some lunch at the mall," Midnight said while getting out of her chair. Some of the other heroes were confused at first before letting it go.
Present Mic had little grin on his face because he had a funny thought pop into his brain. He leans next to Aizawa's ear to tell his friend his joke.
"So… is Midnight going on a date with Englander?" Present Mic whispered with a smile
Aizawa gave a deadpanned look at his friend, "Mic."
"Ya?"
"You need to get yourself a girlfriend because I'm tired of sitting here and listening to your dumb jokes," Aizawa said.
…
…
…
"So, is that yes?"
Aizawa slumped back into his chair groaning in displeasure.
Henry woke up with ease. Last night he cried a little as he thought back to his family and friends in the military. When he arrived in Europe, he was sickened of the conditions the trenches were in. Dead bodies were littered throughout the battlefield which made the smell unbearable.
He got up off the floor and did some morning stretches to get ready for the day. Before he could do anything else, a sudden noise erupted.
*Beep! Beep! Beep! *
"AH!"
Startled by the sudden beeping noise, Henry immediately grabbed his trench knife and rushed to the cause of the noise. The cause of the beeping was coming from an electric alarm clock.
The young soldier brought down his knife on the poor clock, destroying it in a million pieces. His knife was stuck on the desk so he yanked it out with ease. Henry looked at the now destroyed alarm clock feeling relaxed.
Henry's then started to panic, "Oh shit!"
Henry walked away from the destroyed clock and grabbed a weird looking suit from the drawers, courtesy from UA.
"I better get ready for today, don't want to keep Ms. Midnight waiting," Henry went to the doorway to the bathroom and opened it.
The bathroom revealed a toilet, a clean sink, and shower with a glass door leading in. Henry was astonished at the décor of the bathroom, especially the shower.
Back home, taking a bath involved using a bucket of water for him to wash himself. His family couldn't afford a shower since his father didn't make that much money from his job.
Heck they didn't even have a bathroom in their house, only an outhouse in the backyard. Henry shivered in disgust at thought of the outhouse, the dorm room toilet looked nicer and welcoming.
Henry stripped down and went into the shower naked, "It's quite…nice in here. Now time to turn…this…on."
The young soldier couldn't decide which knob to turn. He decided to turn the left one first causing the cool water to splash on him, but the water started to get warm and eventually got hot.
"AH hot!"
It took some time for Henry to find the right temperature for the water. Once the water felt nice, he began to wash himself.
As the warm water his face his mind started to drift off. The sound of the running water started to give Henry shivers down his spine and caused his heart to bump faster.
All of the sudden his body froze and he started to breathe erratically.
"Hey Henry?"
Henry looked up to see he was in a trench. He was in his old infantry uniform and had his rifle in front of him. All around him is what made the hairs on his arm to stand.
British soldiers from young to old were standing idly as they waited for something. They all had mixed expressions, fear, dread, anger, and some were even crying.
"Henry?"
The young lad turned to see a familiar face. The boy next to him was around the same height as Henry and had blonde hair with light brown eyes.
This was his friend private Robert Smith.
"Robert?"
"Hey Henry, you alright pal? Looks like you've seen the devil," Robert asked, feeling concerned for his best friend.
"I don't understand? What's happening? You're suppose-"
Another soldier joined the two with a fake but stern smile. This boy was Jonathan Blake the famous messenger in the company. He was another lad Henry and Robert met during training.
He was more of the goofy type, bettering the mood whenever ever it was sad and depressing.
"Ah lighten up Robert, Henry's just got the jitters. We're all nervous and scared," Jonathan told his friends. He took out a flask and started drinking it, so he could calm his nerve.
"How could you say that Blake! We're about to go over the top!"
"Hey! Don't call me Blake! Use my first name!"
Henry got in between before they started fighting. They shouldn't be fighting each other; there main focus should be getting prepared for the attack.
"Guys calm down! One way or another, were going over the top and charging at the Germans! So, stop-"
*Riiiinnnngggg! *
*BOOM! *
An explosion shook the ground and caused some of the soldiers to panic. The German artillery had begun which made the morale of the soldiers drop drastically.
The shell hit a good part of the trench and killed a couple of soldiers and injured many. The screams of pain and agony had greatly affected the three friends. Robert started to shake in fear while Jonathan did the cross with his hand and prayed that he will survive this attack.
The trenches start to fill up with screams of agony and the cries of young soldiers not wanting to die in this bloody war.
A tall man with brown hair and hazel eyes walked among the soldiers and had an officer's uniform. Captain James Buford was his name, a determined and battle-hardened captain of Company C.
But today he would have to send his new soldiers over the top. That damn order. Countless soldiers have died because of his order, but the soldiers still looked up to him.
Such innocence loss in this godforsaken war.
"Remember lads! All of England is shouting for your victory, if we break through the German line! This war will end fast and you'll all be able to go home to your families! For king and country lads!" Captain Buford yelled out.
"Fix bayonets!" a lieutenant ordered. The soldiers followed the order and readied their rifles with bayonets, ready to pierce the hearts of the German soldiers.
Robert's hands shook as he equipped his rifle with his bayonet, he was scared. Images of death shook the young soldier to his core. Jonathan was the same but did a prayer for himself.
Henry walked up to the ladder and readied for the order to go over the top. He turned back to Robert to help calm him down, "Robert, we're going to get through this! Me and Jonathan are going to make sure of it, Robert! Do you underst-"
*BOOM! *
The German artillery started to increase; Robert started to cry a little and tremble. If it wasn't for Henry and Jonathan's support, he wouldn't be able to go over the top.
Jonathan finished his prayer and walked up to Henry. As he passed Robert, he put a hand on his friend's shoulder and gave him some reassuring words. Henry looked to Jonathan who had a confident yet fearful expression.
"Age before beauty."
Henry nodded his head and moved out of the way for Jonathan to be the first one up. He climbed up to the middle part of the ladder and waited. Henry was the second and Robert was the third to go up the ladder.
Everyone in the trench were ready despite the fear they all felt.
Henry took out a picture of his family and kissed for good luck, "Mum, Dad, Danny, watch over me through this hell. I'm going to come back home."
As Henry put away his photo in his jacket. He noticed something made him confused but also increased his fear.
Silence…
It was an uneasy silence.
The Germans artillery seized. It looked like the Germans wanted to cut them down with machine guns instead wasting more bombs.
Captain Buford slowly brought his whistle to his mouth. He let it rest there until his watch hit the right time.
…
…
…
*Riiiinnnngggg! *
"RRRAAAAAHHHHHHH!"
"CHARGE!"
A huge wave of soldiers went over the top and rushed into the battlefield.
That is when the massacre started.
*Rat tat tat! *
*Rat tat tat! *
The shower of machine gun fire rained upon the unprotected British soldiers. The soldiers started to drop like flies. They were either dead or wounded.
The whole battlefield was nothing but mud with craters filled with water. Dead rotting bodies from previous attacks littered the field with rats in the corpses.
Henry and his friends didn't pay much attention on the conditions, all that mattered was surviving this attack.
Robert all of a sudden got shot and fell into a puddle of water. Jonathan notice this and rushed to his friend and dragged him to cover behind a broken-down tree.
"I've been hit! Oh god!" blood seeped from Robert's left arm. The older soldier grabbed a bandage and wrapped it around Robert's wounded arm. Jonathan noticed Henry still going towards the German line.
"Henry! Wait!"
The young Clarke couldn't hear him because of the gunfire and screaming from the dying soldiers.
Henry tried to activate his quirk…but it didn't work.
The machine gun pointed towards him and showered him with bullets.
*Rat tat tat! *
"AH!"
Henry fell onto his knees; the bullet had struck him in his chest and was lodged in there. He tried to keep going but it proved to no avail.
He was only a couple meters away from the trench to see the German soldiers firing at him. Henry started to lose consciousness and slowly lowered his head.
A German stick grenade landed right in front of him, causing his eyes to widen.
Death was upon him…
*BOOM! *
"AH!"
Henry slipped and hit his head on the class door and fell to the shower floor. He groaned in pain and his breathing was all over the place.
He found the strength to get up and ended his shower.
How long was he dreaming? It felt so real that he could still feel the pain from being shot in his chest. Henry was shaken from the dream and stepped out of the shower to calm down.
As he dried off his body and hair, he glances to the mirror to see himself. The mirror displayed his battle scars from many skirmishes and battles during his time in Europe.
His most significant scar was his burns. They brought great shame to him and reminded him to never lose focus in battle.
One wrong move and you could be dead or injured.
Henry finished up his drying and proceeded to go get ready for Midnight. He looked at the new clothes, which was a jumpsuit or track suit of some kind that had the letter U on the top and A to the bottom.
He was hesitant at first but found the courage to try on the onesie. The fitting of the jumpsuit was snug on his body and felt comfy inside. Henry stepped out of the bathroom feeling nice in his new onesie.
He grabbed a fresh pair of socks out of his bag and put them on with his great war boots.
"*Knock! Knock! * Henry? It's me Midnight, are you ready to go?"
"Just about," Henry said as he walked over to the door and opened it. Revealing Midnight in a purple jacket and white blouse under. Black pants with black opened toed shoes on.
Henry blushed at Midnight's civilian clothes because of how tight it was around her body. He was no stranger to seeing woman wearing less clothes, due to the fact that Jonathan would take him and Robert to the bar to 'talk' to some ladies.
The clothes of the future were way different from the great war. Henry would have to get use to seeing women showing off their skin in public.
"You…look nice Midnight," Henry commented. Midnight smiled feeling happy towards Henry's kind words.
"Thank you, Henry. I see that your wearing the PE jumpsuit?"
"Yes, my other clothes are ripped and they smell bad. I looked into the drawers but only found this," Henry said in a sad tone. Even though it felt comfy, the track suit made him look like a clown.
Midnight chuckled before seeing the now destroyed alarm clock. She gasped and walked over to the broken device to see what had happened. The UA teacher noticed knife holes on the desk and immediately turned to Henry.
The young boy gave a weak smile and had a drop of sweat roll down his forehead.
"Henry? Did you do this?" Midnight said in a stern yet gentle voice.
Henry couldn't find any other reason to deny his actions, "I was…startled by the sudden beeping noise and perceived it as danger. I'm sorry that I destroyed your beeping contraption…"
Midnight couldn't be angry at the boy. She knew that Henry would have some sort of reaction to the new technologies and social norms of the present day. But she was surprised that Henry would stab the alarm clock just by stabbing it.
"It's ok Henry, you have a lot to learn about the future. Now it's time to head to the Musutafu mall and get you some clothes," Midnight happily said, earning a confused look from Henry.
"Don't worry Henry, I'll have some of the UA staff members come and clean your hero uniform and repair it for use in the washing machine."
"Washing…machine?" Henry was interested by this washing device.
Both Henry and Midnight walked out of the room and headed outside of dorms. Midnights car was parked out in the front.
The UA teacher hopped in the driver seat with a grin and notice Henry standing outside the door. The young boy admiring the whole design of the car.
The wheels weren't skinny and the car looked smooth while a Rolls Royce seemed kind of blocky.
"Come on in Henry. It won't bite," Midnight said referring to the car. Henry opens the door and sat in the passenger seat.
"Put on your seat belt."
Henry followed her order and looked to the side and grabbed the seat belt. Once safely secured in the seat, Midnight decided to talk to Henry.
"Henry, I want you to call me by my real name from now on."
"Why Ms. Midnight?" Henry questioned with his head tilted.
"I don't want people to know that I'm Midnight. If I go around wearing my costume, they're going to be all over me and try and get my autograph."
"Oh…ok. What's your real name then?"
Midnight smiled and went next to Henry's ear, "It's Nemuri Kayama hon, don't you forget it."
Henry was surprised at how Nemuri was to his ear. He also understood what she meant by the public being all over you. Civilians would try and give him food or gifts that showed their gratitude towards him.
"Well, its nice to meet you…Nemuri Kayama."
Nemuri smiled feeling happy at the boy using her real name, "Now that we're acquainted, it's time to take you to the mall and buy you some things to decorate your room…and get you some better clothes."
At that moment Henry's stomach growled causing him to rub his belly in hunger, "Some food would be nice too. I haven't had a solid meal for over 100 years."
Nemuri giggled like a young teenager when she heard Henry's statement. It was cute to her to see Henry act so young and manly. The manly part would make her face turn red.
Today would be a day filled with fun and new discoveries for Henry.
Once Henry walked into the mall, he was amazed on how many stores there were. It was like a market back in his home town but bigger.
Stores sold clothes similar and different from what the people in the mall were wearing. What really amazed Henry was the food courts, a wide variety of food that could fill up a whole company of soldiers was located here at the mall. The thought of eating made Henry's stomach growl and his mouth watery.
The next thing in the advancement of technology that really made Henry astonished was the phone. Phones during his time was big and large and required you to dial the number which took a couple of minutes.
Now phones were small and compact. It made it easier for the person to hold it and travel, like a small portable radio. The small device had many features, playing games, going something called the internet, and taking a freaking picture!
Or something called a selfie. Some girls did that with the young boy when he didn't notice them behind his back.
Henry was at awe; the future was indeed better in technology and stores.
"Henry, come on. The place is just a couple stores down," Nemuri said. She smiled at young boy because of the way he was looking at the mall. This new experience would stay with him for the rest of his life.
"Ok Nemuri."
Nemuri and Henry walked side by side with smiles on their faces. Nemuri was just glad that she was at the mall to relax and enjoy herself. Being a hero required a lot of time and energy out of you and little free time for the R-rated hero.
People around the mall took notice of Henry. Some whispering to each other while others smiled and took pictures of the young boy.
This caused the young soldier to feel uncomfortable because he wasn't used to large crowds. Especially people trying to get his autograph or picture to remember him.
"Oh my god…that's Englander!"
"I know, he looks so cool!"
"Is he going to a hero school?"
"I hope he goes to UA."
"You know…he's pretty cute."
That last part made Henry walk a little closer to Midnight. She saw the timid boy walk closer to her and decided to make Henry feel less nervous.
"It's alright Henry, they're just excited to see a hero. They won't bite you."
Henry felt a little better but one thing made him feel kind of bad.
Hero.
Even though people called him a hero, that's not what he felt like at times. He killed a lot of people during the war and some of them died gruesome deaths. Many were young kids just like him.
Fighting in a war that was bloody and deadly that didn't care how old you were. If you didn't have the courage to fight.
You'd die
"Were here Henry!"
Henry stopped and looked up to see the store called American Apparel. America, now that's a place Henry hasn't heard in a long time. Britain's allies from across the Atlantic, land of the free.
The only thing that pissed off Henry about his American ally is their decision to give their black troops to the French. A big fuck you to the black American soldiers that wanted to fight the Germans under America.
Nemuri smiled at the boy and led him into the store by grabbing his hand. As he was being pulled by the older woman, he looked at the type of clothing the store had.
A lot of the clothes were bright in color and had weird pictures on them. Nemuri and Henry eventually stopped to meet one of the female workers. The worker smiled and walked up to the two, immediately recognizing Henry.
"Oh my god! Your Englander, the English hero! It's nice to meet you sir," the young woman violently shook his hand and caused poor Henry to jolt up and down.
Once the lady finished up her greeting, she then started to ask questions, "Hello ma'am! What brings you and Englander here today?"
"Just getting clothes for young Henry here. Sadly, his clothes are all ripped up and damaged. I was hoping if you could help us out with choosing some type of clothes for him."
"Ahhhh, Ok. I could help you guys out. Anything for the first hero!" The female worker happily said. Henry appreciated the help from both women, it was nice that Nemuri was here with him.
The female worker led the two to the boy's section and immediately went to work on grabbing some clothes for Henry to see. Problem was that the clothes the lady picked out was not to his liking.
The clothes were either to tight or baggy. Some didn't have pockets, a couple ripped holes on the pants, and even shirts that had female heroes in sexy poses. Henry decided enough was enough.
"If it's ok with you ma'am. May I pick out my own clothes?" Henry asked the worker.
The woman looked back to the boy with a confused look but quickly understood the boy, "Sure, pick any clothes that you like!"
Nemuri watched as her young friend walked over to the shirt section took out a white t shirt and a brown bomber jacket. Henry finished up getting his pants and some new shoes and proceeded towards the changing rooms.
A few minutes went by and Henry was still putting on his clothes. Nemuri was their fidgeting around with her nails and the female worker was standing beside her focusing on the changing room.
The door clicked open, both women looked to see the young boy and immediately dropped their jaws at what they saw.
Henry came dressed in a brown bomber jacket with a white shirt that had the British flag and the words "For king and country!" on the front in black. His pants were black jeans that fit nicely around Henry's legs and waist, being able to stretch his legs out. He wore brown boots similar to his old shoes but was much cleaner and nicer to look at.
All in all, Henry looked like a normal kid in the present day. Both women couldn't help but blush at how good Henry looked in his clothes.
'Such a handsome boy!' The female worker thought to herself as her imagination started to run rampant. Causing her to blush harder.
'For a boy from the 1910s, he's got a good since of clothing and style. Especially that bomber jacket,' Nemuri also thought. She couldn't deny that Henry looked good in those clothes.
"So…how do I look?"
Both women returned back to reality and gave Henry some heartwarming compliments.
"You look really good Englander-san! You'll be turning heads when they see you!" The female worker said with enthusiasm.
"She's right Henry, you look stunning in that outfit," Nemuri added.
Henry couldn't help but blush at the nice comments the women were giving him.
"You guys really think so?" Nemuri and worker nodded their heads vigorously. This made Henry smile even wider.
"Ok then…I'll be taking these clothes then!"
"Splendid!" the female worker yelled out loud, causing some customers to look at her weirdly.
Nemuri walked up to the young boy to remind him that those clothes weren't the only one they were buying, "While I'm glad that your liking your new outfit. We still got to get you some clothes for home use and get you home decorations for your room. We still got a long day ahead of us!"
Henry's smile vanished and was replace with a frown, "Oh…ok."
"Hey don't worry Henry, it won't take very long. Besides, once were finished I could take you to the food court and get you some food."
The young English boy turned to Nemuri with a stunned expression and his mouth watering.
"Really!?" Henry yelled in front of the UA teacher which cause her to recoil back.
"Yup, lets get your things done and get you some food soldier."
Henry did a mock British salute with a grin, "Yes ma'am."
The female worker walked up the to the two and continued on to help Henry pick out some more clothes and help out with home decorations, "Don't worry Englander-san, after everything you did for the world. You deserve to be helped and treated special!"
The three individuals continued on with their shopping. Enjoying the fun, they were having interesting conversations as they browsed around the store.
Today was a wonderful day for Henry, to experience being a child once again and having fun in the process.
The food court was by far the best part of the mall. Nemuri watched as how Henry gobbled down 2 cheese burgers and 1 medium fries in a matter of minutes. She was stunned at the amount of food Henry was eating and it seemed he wasn't full yet.
The people around the two watched in amazement and in disgust as they saw the way Henry ate.
Nemuri gave weak smile and decided to start a conversation with Henry, "So…Henry?"
Henry stopped his eating and turned his attention to Nemuri while wiping some ketchup off his mouth, "Yes?"
"Tell me, how did you learn to speak and understand Japanese? During the hostage situation in Cambrai, Snipe told me you understood him when he spoke in Japanese? Did someone teach you?" Nemuri asked. Henry stopped instantly as the question was asked. He didn't feel comfortably to talk about his personal life, but since the world knows about him. They knew the history of his life.
He may have met Nemuri just yesterday, but she seemed like a nice lady. She bought him nice clothes, some home decorations, and even food for him to eat. Telling Nemuri about his past was a good way to thank her.
"It was during 1917 in a small town near Passchendaele. I was ordered to help out with some civilians in cleaning up their town from ruble. During my stay in the town I ran into a beautiful Japanese woman, she ran the towns orphanage and needed some help with clearing out rubble in the orphanage."
Nemuri listened as Henry told his story and felt excited to learn who this Japanese woman was. From what she learned in history class Japanese people immigrated to different parts of the world.
"So, who was this nice lady?" Nemuri asked.
"Her name was Ayaka…Ayaka Midoriya."
"Ayaka? That's a very beautiful name."
"She was also the girl I fell in love with during the war."
…
…
"What?"
Nemuri was in disbelief. Aizawa's report didn't mention Henry having any love interest and the history books didn't have it either.
"I didn't know you had a girlfriend."
"Is that what you call it? Girlfriend? Seems right, ya. She was my girlfriend and me and her fell madly in love. Whenever we were together, she asked me if I wanted to learn Japanese. I said yes and it was the best time of my life. Even orphans liked me and I became a big brother to them, I just hope some of them are still alive. Ayaka is the first person I ever loved," Henry looked down feeling sad because Ayaka must be dead by now. The thought of her gone brought great pain to his heart.
Nemuri noticed this and felt bad for bringing up some past memories. She extends her hand and puts It over Henry's hand, causing him to look up to see Nemuri giving him a weak smile.
"I'm sorry if I made you sad. If you need anyone to talk to, I'm here to listen. The whole UA staff will take care of you if you need it."
Henry appreciated the kind gesture from Nemuri. It was hard for him to wrap his mind around the fact that he's been gone since 1918. The more he thought about his fellow comrades and Ayaka, the more his heart cracked.
"Its alright Nemuri, I just hope once I'm all situated, I could try and find out who's alive so I can contact them," Henry told the older woman in a positive manner.
All of sudden a light bulb lit in Nemuri's mind, "Maybe I could help you Henry."
Henry looked at her all confused, "How?"
"Me and a couple of my colleagues could help track down your friends to see if they're still alive."
Henry looked with hope burning his eyes and a small smile creeping up on his face. He respected the woman on how kind Nemuri was, with the help of her and the UA staff.
He will be able to find his former friends and allies if they were alive. Henry's hands then clenched feeling determined to find his love.
'Ayaka…please be alive.'
Nemuri looked at her watched and noticed it was time to return back to the UA dorms to drop off Henry. The reason for this was because later she was going on another talk show tonight.
"Well Henry its time for us to get going. I'll help you set up your room when we get back to UA. I'm going to be on a talk show later," Nemuri said with a smile.
Henry smiled and gave her a thumbs up, "Right, let's get back to my room. I want to try these sweets you call mochi!" the young soldier pulled out the mochi out of his plastic bag to look at it.
It really did look good and Henry was eager to eat it back at in his room.
Nemuri laughed at how adorable Henry acted with his fascination on candy. The two heroes got up and threw away their trash. People around the two noticed them leaving and took some pictures of Henry with Nemuri.
Henry felt shy when it came to the amount of attention he was getting. But that was one of the problems of being the first hero in history. Nemuri didn't mind the attention but it sometimes did get annoying.
As the women and boy walked away from the food court carrying the items Nemuri bought. One girl with bright yellow eyes and messy dark blond hair. With a normal Japanese school female uniform on her. Watched as Henry walked away.
She had a wide smile that showed her sharp teeth with her tongue sticking out. In her pocket was a bloody knife that she had used earlier in the day.
This girl was fascinated by the tale Englander. The main reason of her fascination with the young soldier was the tales of his "not so" heroic actions in the war.
"Cute…" The girl said with a grin. She could feel lower region getting wet at the thought of Englander all bloodied up.
Hello my fellow readers, this Jobro89 returning to you with another chapter of Englander! I'm sorry it took so long but school got in the way and college algebra is killing me right now.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter and continue to stay with this story. Henry is now trying to get used to the new world. One thing with Henry is that he's been sleeping in the trenches for many a couples of years that he's not comfortable in normal beds.
I'm not the best writer in the world and I could approve the way I write my stories. Writing fanfictions is good way for me to practice my writing and it helps relax me after homework.
Henry will meet some notable characters before the start of classes at UA. In the next chapter he will meet up with a certain punk rock girl that the fandom love.
Read and Review is always helpful to me because it approves myself as a writer and the way I tell my stories. I do however want to know if some of you ever had someone in your family fight in the great war because to me its important to always remember the soldiers that fought and died in the war.
It is in fact a forgotten war because of how boring some people may think it is.
I won't be working on this story for a while because I will be working on my other story Rendezvous with Destiny.
This is Jobro89, signing off.
