Hey, everybody. Back with another chapter.
So, this chapter is where we will get into the events of Shang-chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. I hope you guys are excited for it.
Let's get to it.
Chapter 4- Bus Boy
Oliver sighs as he lays his bow down on his equipment table in the training room back at the compound. He turns around to face Natasha and Yelena, who both look equally disappointed.
"Well. That was a disappointment," Oliver says.
"Agreed. The only thing we really learned from that is how good members of the Ten Rings can be at hand to hand," Natasha says.
"So what do we do now?" Yelena asks.
Oliver sighs a bit, then says, "I say we go back to the basics. Just look for anything out of the ordinary. Look for any sign of the Ten Rings, or unusual terrorist activity that could hint at where we could find them. Sooner or later, they'll slip up and leave something ro us to follow."
Natasha and Yelena don't look entirely convinced that this is going to work, but they nod slowly and follow Oliver back into the Compound.
(Days later)
Oliver sighs as he slumps forward against the keyboard, feeling quite frustrated. They've been searching for days for signs of the Ten Rings and their agents. However, they've so far found absolutely nothing. Oliver's privately wondering if they may just have to wait for the Ten Rings to find them after all.
Oliver hears some footsteps and looks over to see Yelena walking into the room and sitting down in a chair beside him. "Nothing?" she asks. Oliver just shakes his head in response.
The two sit in silence for a moment before Yelena asks, "How are you and Natasha?"
Despite his frustration with his lack of success in the search, Oliver smiles brightly. "Wonderful. I don't think I've ever been more happy in my life."
"That's good. I'd kill you otherwise," Yelena says, drawing chuckles from both of them. She pauses, then says, "I'm...very glad my sister found you. I don't know if I've ever seen Natasha truly happy in me entire life, but since I first met you, I have seen that Natasha is truly happy with you. And it makes me happy to see her so happy."
"All I've really wanted since I met Natasha is to make her happy. To give her a good life. It's good to hear from someone else that so far, I'm succeeding," Oliver says.
Yelena smile a little bit. After a moment, Oliver asks, "Have you ever thought of this, Yelena? Getting out of the assassin/mercenary life? Settling down a bit? Maybe pursuing a relationship?"
"No. I don't know what I'd do with myself if I didn't put my skills to use. As for romance, I don't see the point for me. I'm just not sure I'm that type. Maybe if I meet a person who makes me feel like you make Natasha feel, I might think about it. But I don't see that happening," Yelena says.
"Well, you could always come join us. Be an Avenger," Oliver says.
Yelena looks at him for a moment. Finally, she says, "Maybe."
The two sit in silence for a few moments. Oliver is about to speak again when the door flies open and Natasha rushes into the room, her phone clutched tightly in one hand.
"You've gotta see this!" Natasha says urgently. She presses the screen and then shoves the phone in Oliver's face.
Pulling his face back a few inches so he can see the screen clearly, Oliver watches the video Natasha is playing. The video is muted, but he doesn't need sound. Oliver watches in surprise as the video shows a Chinese man on a bus fighting multiple people at hand to hand combat with exceptional skill.
"Well this guy is sure good. But why are you showing me this?" Oliver asks.
"Just keep watching," Natasha says.
Oliver and Yelena (who has now come around and is watching over Oliver's shoulder) continue to watch. After the man has knocked out all his opponents, a larger man, who is missing one of his arms, stands up in the back of the bus and walks forward to meet the Chinese man. Te man smirks, then deploys a glowing blade from his missing arm.
"Holy s***," Yelena mutters.
The blade-armed man attacks the Chinese man, his blade cutting through anything it touches. Then, after a few slashes, Natasha pauses the video.
"Look at the patch on his chest," she says.
Oliver and Yelena peer closely at the man's chest. Then, they see a symbol in the patch in the middle of his chest. The symbol of the Ten Rings.
"S***. The Ten Rings," Oliver says.
"This video was posted less than an hour ago. I have scanned the whole thing, and there's a moment where it seems like this guy recognizes these attackers for who they are. I think whoever this guy is, he knows who the Ten Rings are. In any case, I think that if the Ten Rings came for this guy once, they'll probably come for him again. If we find him, we may be able to find the Ten Rings," Natasha says.
Oliver quickly turns back to the computer. He pulls up the video, then pauses it when he has a good video of the Chinese man's face and scans his face. He then takes the scan and feeds it into a facial recognition software.
"There we go. I've got his face fed into facial recognition. If he shows up in a public place, we should know it very quickly," Oliver says.
Sure enough, within just a few minutes, there's a beeping from the computer. Oliver clicks on the notice, and it pulls up a video, apparently from a security camera of the man from the video and a Chinese woman who they glimpsed in the video. Their surroundings are clearly an airport security. It also brings up a picture next to the video of the man.
"Looks like our friend here goes by the name Shaun Ping. And it looks like he's at the San Francisco Airport right now," Oliver says. He types a few commands into the computer, and several ticket records pop up.
"Looks like he and his friend there have overnight tickets from San Francisco International to Shanghai on China Eastern Airlines flight 754, with a connecting flight from Shanghai to Macau on China Eastern Flight 2730," Oliver says.
"Well, if we take the Quinjet, we can get to Macau before they've even landed in Shanghai. Let's go," Natasha says, ready to find out who this Shaun really is.
(Early Morning, the following day)
"When did the flight schedule say their flight was scheduled to land?" Natasha asks, scanning the skies with night vision goggles.
"Two minutes from now. And the schedule says the aircraft is an Airbus A320," Oliver says, double checking the flight information he had taken a photo of so they could know when to expect this Shaun and his friend.
Natasha continues to scan the sky. Soon enough, she spots an aircraft coming in to land. Moving slightly to get a better view of it, she quickly identifies it as an A320, and a second later identifies the China Eastern Airlines livery painted on the fuselage.
"I think that's their flight coming in right now," Natasha says as she lowers the night vision goggles.
"Good. Let's get into the terminal and wait for them," Oliver says. He heads for the terminal, Natasha and Yelena following him closely.
After they enter the terminal, the team waits patiently outside the passenger exit, waiting for Shaun and his friend to emerge. Sure enough, after about half an hour, they spot the two coming through the exit into the pickup area.
Oliver motions for Natasha and Yelena to wait. As Shaun and his friend approach, Oliver takes a step forward and says, "Shaun Ping. We need to talk."
Shaun turns to look at Oliver, and he and his friend stop short as their eyes shoot wide open. "The Green Arrow," he says in awe.
"Well, right now, I'm just Oliver Queen. And right now, I'm here because I need to talk to you," Oliver says.
"What could the Avengers need with me?" Shaun asks.
"The three of us are looking for the Ten Rings. I know they attacked you in San Francisco. And you're gonna help us find them," Oliver says.
At this, Shaun's expression turns more serious. "What do you want with the Ten Rings?" he asks.
"Because me and my sister in law are on their radar, and I want them dealt with. So you're gonna help me find them," Oliver responds.
Shaun is quiet for a few moments, then says, "Okay. Come with us. We'll talk on the way."
And, I'll end the chapter there.
Next chapter will show their arrival at Xialing's fight club and Shang-chi's fight with his sister. Until it's up, please leave a review and stay tuned!
