I don't own KHR, as always.
"Why you piece of-" Piero snarled as he started to turn around so he could fully face G, his hand going straight for his gun while Iacopo finally couldn't stay conscious anymore and fell down with a splat.
G didn't waste any time to reply in words as he fired off another flame-covered arrow. This one went straight through Piero's chest, causing him to gag with pain as he staggered, his hand finally leaving Hayato's shoulder.
Hayato ended up stumbling a bit himself, though whether it was because of the residual force of the arrow piercing Piero, or because he didn't have anyone to physically support him anymore, Hayato wasn't sure. But he did have to run to G, that much was certain.
However, before he could even begin to do so, G rushed forward and quickly, yet gently, picked him up with one arm while hitting Piero across the head with his bow for good measure. As Piero fell to the ground with his eyes rolled back, Hayato marveled at how fast G moved. Hayato didn't even have any time to protest being picked up like he was a little kid.
Not that he wanted to anyway.
"How dare-" Martina began to say angrily as she reached for her gun only for G to hit her across the face with his bow before kicking the gun far away.
"You try to kill another child," G finished for her in a cold voice as he held Hayato protectively against his chest. "You knew that he and his siblings were under our care and protection, did you honestly think that we would let you get away with it?"
Martina scoffed.
"Oh please, don't give me that look Vongola minion, you're not any better than I am," Martina shot back as she stared at G, her eyes full of hate and anger. "You're the one who just hit a lady. Twice!"
"Okay one, I'm not a minion, I'm Primo's right-hand man. Two, lady?" G repeated with a raised eyebrow. "Are you delusional as well as a wrench?"
Martina's reaction was something that Hayato would treasure until the end of his days.
Oh how the mighty have fallen.
Then suddenly, a door slammed open.
"It's okay Hayato, I am ultimately he-" Knuckle yelled as he raced out into the alleyway, only to skid to a stop when he saw them. "Oh. G, you got him. That's good."
"Yeah, sorry, I haven't had the time to update you guys through the comlink," G apologized.
"No worries, I'm just ultimately glad he's alright," Knuckle assured him before he directed his gaze towards Hayato. "How are you feeling Hayato?"
"I'm okay," Hayato answered softly as he wrapped his arms around G's neck. "...My chest hurts but I don't think I'm bleeding."
"I don't think you're bleeding either kid," G added a bit softly as he carefully clutched Hayato closer, before giving Martina an icy-cold glare.
"Oh, stop being so dramatic-"
"Hey, uh, Knuckle?" A certain white-haired boy then poked his head out of the open door, effectively ending Martina's little tirade. "I know that you told us to wait inside but since the bad guys have been beaten to the extreme...can we come out now?"
"Ryohei!" Hayato exclaimed happily.
"Yeah, but stay by me okay?" Knuckle said with a chuckle. Ryohei beamed as he fully stepped out of the building, with a thumb-sucking Lambo in his arms.
"Are you extremely okay little bro?!" Ryohei called out with a voice that was a cross between relief and concern.
"Yeah, I'm okay," Hayato replied honestly with a smile. Just a few minutes ago, he had seriously thought he was never gonna see any of his family again so to see two of his brothers now...filled him with indescribable relief and joy.
But then he remembered Tsuna.
"Wait, G, Knuckle!" Hayato cried, worried and beating himself up for forgetting what had happened to his precious brother. "Tsuna, Martina had one of her thugs-"
"Hayato!" Hayato's heart beated hopefully in his chest as he looked to the door again just in time to see everyone else in their shopping trip come tumbling out into the alleyway, their expressions varying between relief and concern.
And among them was Tsuna (who was riding on Kyoya's back) his brown eyes as wide open as his smile.
He was safe. And awake.
"Tsuna...you're alright. Oh thank goodness!" Hayato exclaimed, his voice trembling with emotion. "I was so worried! I'm so sorry that I let that guy hit you!"
Then Tsuna's face started to crumple.
"You're sorry? You're sorry?! You were the one who almost died! Again!" Tsuna whined as tears fell down his cheeks. "I'm the one who couldn't stop them from taking you! I'm the reason why you were forced to go with them!"
"It's not your fault Tsuna," Mukuro quickly intervened as he patted Tsuna's back. "And it's not your fault either Hayato. It's-"
Then Mukuro turned all of his attention to Martina, the glint in his heterochromatic eyes changing from assuring to icy-cold fury in an instant.
"Hers."
Hayato felt a shiver crawl up his spine despite himself, though to be fair he had never seen or heard Mukuro this furious before. Not even when they had first confronted all of the Vongola did he sound so full of...hate.
Even Martina was taken aback for a second, before she laughed it off.
"And what are you going to do little one? Tug my hair? Spit in my face?" Martina mocked as she kept her injured hand close to her chest.
"You wish," Mukuro said simply as with a flick of his hand, his trident appeared in his hand.
"Whoa there buddy," Daemon intercepted as he threw an arm in front of Mukuro.
"I am not your buddy," Mukuro all but snarled as he glared at Daemon. "Do you honestly believe I am just going to wait patiently at the sidelines while the person who hurt my family is right there?!"
"No, of course not!" Daemon, sounding like he was actually shocked. "I'm just saying, think carefully about what you exactly want to do before you mentally break her. You only have one shot after all!"
"Daemon!"
"What?" Daemon asked as he blinked confusedly at Elena. Then his eyes widened with realization.
"Oh right, he should ask if his other siblings want a go at her before he breaks her mind open like melon. My bad."
"Daemon!"
"What?!"
"Oh I can't believe this." With those words, Hayato turned his attention back to his stepmother, who was baring her teeth like an corned animal as she glared at all of them.
"Me, after everything that I have been through, about to be beaten by people the likes of you?" Martina continued as she slowly stood up, still clutching her bleeding hand close to her chest. "I think not! I refuse to let it end here! I will have my justice, and I will not be stopped by a bunch of children and self-righteous hypocrites!"
"Justice?"
At the new yet familiar voice, Hayato turned his head past his family and saw that Giotto was standing near the entrance to the alleyway, with Alaude standing closely behind him.
And Giotto had that flame on his forehead again as he stared coolly at Martina.
"You really believe that killing a child whose only 'crime' was to be born justice?" Giotto continued as he walked towards her, each step filled with purpose and resolve. "I may or may not be a self-righteous hypocrite, but at the very least I am not you."
Then Giotto stopped, now only a few feet away as he continued to face her, his amber-gold eyes never once breaking contact from Martina's green eyes.
"Pathetic, delusional wretch."
"P-Pathetic?" Martina sputtered, like she couldn't believe her ears. "Delusional? Wretch? Where...where do you get off?!"
"Well, you believe that killing and hurting children will actually help you feel better. What else am I supposed to call you?"
"Why you," Martina slightly growled before her face suddenly lighted up. Then she chuckled. "Oh, I can't wait to see my famiglia crush you, all of you, into dust. You may be strong, but I am the aunt of the Ricci Don, and there is no way he wouldn't use his old but well-established means and connections to destroy your inexperienced family after what you all have done to me!"
"Yeah, there is one problem with that," Giotto replied, not fazed at all with the threat. "They're all dead."
Martina's eyes widened with shock, and for once Hayato didn't blame her. His eyes were wide with shock too as his mouth hung open.
Did...is his old family, the one he was born in, the one he was a part of for seven years...really gone?
"Wha...no, no way," Martina denied with a shake of her head. "You're lying!"
"Well, I admit I may be jumping the gun," Giotto stated nonchalantly. "But I sent Reborn to investigate your family a couple of days ago, and after he warned me about you coming into town, I told him he could start having fun with your lot. Considering that he's Reborn, I can imagine that the Ricci famiglia has been completely obliterated by now. Or at the very least, it will be reasonably soon."
That's...that's where Reborn went off to? To take care of his old famiglia once and for all?
"You...you monster!" Martina yelled. "How could you do this?! The other families...they won't stand for this!"
"They can and they will," Giotto said matter-of-factly. "Not only did the members of the Ricci famiglia stood by as you killed their young heir, they were willing to help you with your greatly misguided justice to kill the son of the late Don. There is no one loyal enough to your family to stick by you once they know the truth. They know better than to commit suicide like that."
"Then...I better make sure the truth doesn't come out!" Martina threatened as she let go of her injured hand.
"Who says it hasn't already?"
Martina breathed heavily as her face grew red until finally, she screamed in complete and utter rage. Still screaming, Martina rushed at him with her nails raised and clearly ready to claw Giotto's face.
Giotto's expression didn't change at all as he easily caught Martina's wrists with his hands. Martina screamed with frustration as she tried to rip her hands out of his wrists but no matter how much she fought, she couldn't break free.
Giotto didn't even look like he was struggling at all.
"Goodbye, Martina," Giotto said with finality. "May Bianchi and any others you have unjustly killed finally rest in peace."
Then he slightly pulled Martina forward and without a sound escaping his lips, headbutted her. Martina instantly stopped struggling as her eyes rolled to the back of her head. Giotto then let go of her wrists, causing Martina to crumple to the ground like she was a rag doll who had just been tossed aside.
Hayato stared at her unconscious body, silently noting the burn mark in the center of her forehead. Then he sighed.
It...it was over. It was finally over.
What else can I say? Giotto believes in equal treatment.
For those possibly wondering, Martina isn't dead. Yet. Giotto isn't going to kill people in front of the kids no matter how pissed off he is. Whether she is going to die off-screen or she is going to suffer a lonely existence in Vendicare, I'm not totally sure yet. This is the last time we were ever see her though, and she is certainly never going to cause any trouble for our little family ever again. You can believe me on that.
Please tell me what you felt and thought during this chapter in a review and I will update later this month. I promise.
Till then, see ya and have a good day/night!
