Lambo babbled happily as Kyo carried him down the hall, their siblings following close behind him.
"...How many are you going to give him?" Muku asked softly, with no trace of any kind of smile on his face.
Lambo stopped babbling as he frowned at his older brother. Lambo had no idea what had happened to Muku for him to make those raspy sounds yesterday but it had scared him. It sounded like Muku couldn't breathe, and Lambo remembered (though barely) how bad it felt to not be able to do that.
Not only that, but Muku had been really sad yesterday too. Though Muku ended up breathing and happier later on, Lambo wanted to make sure that Muku stayed happy.
"Muku?" Lambo called out to him. When Muku turned his head, Lambo smiled widely as he reached up to tug on Kyo's ear. When Kyo winced a bit, Muku gave Lambo a small smile full of love as he reached over to rub his hand through the baby's dark curls.
"Good boy," Muku told him, causing the baby to giggle.
"..Don't encourage him," Kyo whispered to Muku, who just continued to smile.
"Depends on how many he actually needs," the tall dark-haired man said as he walked ahead of him. "And even then, we might have to space the shots up."
"Space them out? You mean, if Lambo needs four shots, he'll get two today and two tomorrow?" Haya asked as Ryo carried him on his back.
"It wouldn't be tomorrow but yes, something like that."
"But...wouldn't that stress him out?" Ome asked, sounding worried. Lambo cooed as he looked at her. Ome was too far away to pat his head but she did give him a small smile before it disappeared as she looked at the dark-haired man. "I've heard that stress isn't too good for a baby."
"You're ultimately right, but unfortunately, many of the vaccinations are given in several doses or stages and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be a good idea to give little Lambo two or three stages at once," the tall man continued.
"Oh," Tsu replied as he gave Lambo a worried look. Lambo frowned.
First Muku, then Ome, and now Tsu too. What was going on?!
"It's gonna be extremely okay Tsuna," Ryo said with a smile, which Lambo liked very much. "Lambo is tough to the extreme, he'll be okay!"
"Yea!" Lambo joyfully cried with outstretched arms when he heard his name. He liked his name, thus he liked it when his siblings used his name.
"Looks like Lambo agrees with you Ryohei!" Take said with a joyful laugh, which made Lambo laugh in return. Lambo looked all around at his siblings' faces and smiled when he saw that they were smiling too.
His siblings were doing better now, that's good.
"Ah, here we are," the dark-haired man said as he stopped in front of a door. The rest of them stopped in their tracks too as Lambo let out an interested coo.
He hadn't been in there yet! He couldn't wait to see what was inside!
"Are you guys sure you all want to go in? No one will blame you if you decided not to." Lambo looked up and saw that it had been the pretty lady who had said that. She had been walking after them during this whole little trip though she had stayed silent almost the whole time.
Lambo wasn't sure but he believed that may be unusual for her.
"...Thank you but we're in this together as a family," Tsu told her as some of his siblings nodded.
"Ultimately well said," the man said as he opened the door, revealing a room with a black bed-like object in the middle of it.
"Here goes," Muku said, almost sounding like he was scared. Then everyone, minus the man and the pretty lady, looked at Lambo. Lambo tilted his head in confusion.
Why was everyone looking at him like that?
Then they walked into the room and to Lambo's personal delight, he and Kyo headed straight for the interesting black bed. Kyo then carefully sat Lambo down on the bed. Lambo cooed as he patted the black bed as Kyo pulled himself up onto it.
It wasn't as soft as their bed but it still gave away under Lambo's hand when he pressed down on it. Lambo giggled as he patted the strange black bed again.
Then Kyo grabbed Lambo and placed him into his lap, so that Lambo's back was pressed securely against Kyo's stomach. Lambo gurgled happily as he looked up at his big brother's face. Kyo as usual didn't say anything as he looked down with a small smile, though he did tighten his hold on the baby.
Lambo didn't mind, he liked being held. And he was always safe in Kyo's arms.
"Alright, I'm going to prick Lambo's finger so we can find out what vaccines he did manage to get, if any," the tall man said as he brought out a small box.
"How long will it take for us to figure that out?" the lady asked as Lambo looked at the small black box in interest.
What was that? What did it do? What noises did it make? Can Lambo suck on it?
"Luckily, thanks to...the advance technology we were able to get, not long at all," the man said as he gently grabbed one of Lambo's tiny hands. As the man held out one of Lambo's fingers, Lambo reached for the interesting black box.
Then the black box touched his finger and suddenly, there was a sharp sting.
Lambo's green eyes grew wide as he felt something that he was unfortunately familiar with.
Pain.
"Wahh..." Lambo started to wail as the tall man put something white on the tip of his finger, covering the red stuff that had appeared on his finger.
"It's okay, it's extremely okay Lambo!" Ryo cried as he rushed forward so that he was right in front of Lambo's face (he had put Haya down on the ground earlier). "You're okay. Look-"
Then Ryo covered his face with his hands only to pull them away, revealing Ryo had puffed his cheeks out. Then he slowly blew air through his pursed lips, making a very funny noise that reminded Lambo of the noise he sometimes makes with his butt.
"...Hehe," Lambo giggled as a tear or two escaped his eyes, though he wasn't sad anymore.
That was funny!
"Whew...good job Ryohei!" Tsu congratulated him, causing Ryo to smile widely while the tall man left after putting a band-aid on his finger.
"Of course! Anything for my extreme baby brother!"
"That was just a prick though," Muku said with no trace of a smile on his face. "If Lambo got that hurt from it, then...how is he going to react when he actually gets a shot?"
"It's going to be okay Mukuro," Ome told him as she placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Yeah, since Lambo got cheered up right away, I think he cried just from shock," Haya added while sitting on one of the only two chairs in the room.
"I can see that," Tsu agreed with a nod. While he didn't say anything, Muku didn't look quite as nervous, which pleased Lambo. The baby then looked at the green band-aid on his finger in curiosity. He then reached out to poke at it when Kyo stopped him by grabbing his hand.
"Don't mess with it Lambo," Kyo told him gently as he put Lambo's hand down on his lap. Lambo whined a little because not only did he want to touch the band-aid but because he got hurt in Kyo's arms.
That had never happened before...
"Oh boy," the tall man said as he looked at a strange silver object with a bright white front and a bunch of black buttons on the bottom.
"What is it Knuckle? What does it say on the computer?" the pretty lady asked as Lambo pouted at the tall man. He had hurt him! Though, now that Lambo thought about it, he believed the black box did that. The tall man had just held it, and the tall man had been very kind to him and his siblings before.
"He only had the one shot that they give to every newborn at the hospital," the man explained. "...He's gonna need to get six shots today."
Maybe the tall man had hurt him by accident?
"Six?" Muku asked with wide eyes.
"Six?" Tsu repeated in a really high voice.
"Six!" Lambo exclaimed happily, hoping that it would get his family to cheer up.
"...At least Lambo learned a new word," Take said with a smile that for some reason looked different from his other smiles. But before Lambo could wonder why, he felt Kyo pat his head.
"Good job speaking Lambo," Kyo praised him with a small smile.
Lambo laughed in triumph. It worked!
"You know...we don't have to do this. We can just stop right here and not give him the shots. I won't even mention it again," the tall man said as he looked at all of them with a kind expression.
Yeah, the tall man was nothing like the man in the black hat. It had been an accident when he had hurt Lambo. He had even given Lambo a bright green band-aid as an apology!
"...No, it's alright," Kyo answered.
"Yeah...Lambo needs them," Tsu added with a gulp, prompting Haya to reach up and placed a hand on his arm.
"Exactly. I'll-we'll be okay," Muku replied, his face pale as the pretty lady put her hand on his shoulder. Lambo whined a little when he saw that, afraid that he was going to make the horrible raspy noises again. Muku quickly looked at Lambo and put on a wide smile.
Lambo smiled widely in return, his fear totally gone.
"Lambo will be okay," Kyo said as he gave Lambo a little squeeze.
"Yea!" Lambo cheered as he brought both of his arms up. This caused everyone to either smile or chuckle.
"Lambo sure thinks so!" Take pointed out with a short laugh. Then the tall man sighed.
"Then let's not put it off anymore," he said with a smile before going off and heading to the counter behind him. No one talked for a bit as the tall dark-haired man did something (Lambo couldn't really get a good look) on the counter. Lambo really didn't care, he was too busy trying to see if he could mess with the band-aid without Kyo noticing.
After the third failed attempt, Lambo surrendered and settled for fiddling with Kyo's fingers while babbling instead.
"Alright." Lambo looked up from Kyo's fingers to see that the tall man was holding a tray full of several...silver and sharp-looking things in his hands. "Here goes."
Then Kyo held him extra tight as the man walked towards them, the tray still in his hands. Lambo looked up at Kyo, who looked very serious, which was normal for him. Lambo then looked at his other siblings and saw that while some of them had smiles on their faces, the others...looked scared.
Before Lambo could wonder why, he felt something sharp pierce his leg.
Lambo's eyes widened as he swiftly turned his head to see that the tall man had poked one of the sharp silver things into his leg.
That...that...
That hurt!
Lambo instantly started to cry and wail. He was wrong, the tall man wasn't nice after all! First his finger and now his leg!
"Shoosh, it's okay Lambo, it's going to be okay," Kyo said soothingly as he rubbed his hand up and down Lambo's arm.
"Yeah Lambo, it's alright, we're right here," Ome said as she grabbed Lambo's little hand. Lambo sniffed as he grabbed one of Ome's fingers tightly.
"One down, five to go," the man said as he placed the bad sharp thing down and grabbed another one. Lambo whimpered in fear as he tried to lean back and away from the mean man.
"Hey Lambo, look at me!" Lambo looked away to see Ryo had covered his face with his hands.
"Peek-a-boo, I see you!" Ryo cried as he uncovered his face to reveal a giant smile. Despite the pain, Lambo couldn't help but giggle.
Peek-a-boo, he loved that game-
Then the tall man reached over and pricked his other leg. Lambo immediately started to cry in pain again.
Why did the man keep on hurting him?!
"Lambo! Look what I can do!" Lambo looked up at Take, who was standing behind Ome, just in time to see him press down on his nose. Then suddenly, Take's tongue poked out. Lambo's crying lessened as Take then pulled on his left ear, making his tongue move to the left. Then Take pulled on his right ear twice, making his tongue go all the way to the right.
Lambo stopped crying as he stared.
That...Take had never done that before...he liked it!
Then Lambo felt another sharp sting of pain on the first leg that got stung, making Lambo cry once again.
What was going on?!
"It's okay Lambo!" Tsu suddenly exclaimed as he raced forward and grabbed Lambo's free hand, the other one still holding onto Ome's finger for dear life. "It's gonna be okay, I swear it! You're doing so well so far Lambo, you can do it!"
Lambo's wailing lessened to the point of little whines and sniffles as he tugged on Tsu's finger and put it into his mouth. When Tsu didn't take it out, Lambo started to suck on it.
Then, just when he was starting to feel better again, he felt another sharp sting of pain in his second leg again.
"Ow!" Tsu grunted in pain as Lambo bit down on Tsu's finger out of reflex. But Tsu didn't try to take his finger out of Lambo's mouth, so Lambo continued to suck on it while new tears fell out of his green eyes.
His legs really hurt...
"Um Tsuna, maybe you should take your finger out of his mouth," Take advised while looking a bit concerned. "He is probably gonna bite you again."
"I know, but if it helps him deal with the pain..."
"Hey Lambo! Look what I got!" Lambo peered his head up and what he saw made him gasp as he dropped Tsu's finger in shock.
Haya was standing up and he was holding up one of his sparky-sparky boom sticks that Lambo was never allowed to touch.
And it was on fire.
"Whoa!" Tsu cried as he jumped a little, looking very surprised.
"Ah! Hayato! Is that dynamite?!" the pretty lady screeched, looking very afraid as she took a step towards him, only for Haya to take a step away from her.
"Hayato, is this really the best place-"
"Yeah it's dynamite. But don't worry, I'll snuff out the fuse before it blows up," Haya interrupted Ome as he waved the sparky-sparky boom stick around. "I just figured that Lambo would like the fire. So hurry up with the next shot, the fuse won't last for much longer."
Completely entranced, Lambo moved his head around so that the pretty fire wouldn't leave his sight.
"He did stop crying," Take commented.
"Extremely good thinking Hayato!" Ryo praised as the pretty lady stretched forth her hand for the sparky-sparky boom stick only for Haya to wave it just out of her reach.
"No! I mean...your heart is in the right place Hayato but dynamite is very dangerous," the mean tall man said with another sharp silver thing in his hand. "Please give that to Elena."
"...Okay, sheesh," Haya relented as he licked his finger and thumb before squashing the little fire. Lambo whined a little when the fire disappeared.
"Where did you even get this?" the lady asked as she quickly took the dynamite away from Haya and shoved it into one of the pockets in her dress.
"Uh...I made it," Haya answered, which made the pretty lady widen her eyes. "Why are you guys so shocked? Surely you found dynamite on me when Reborn brought me and Chrome here."
"Yes, but we thought you must have snatched it from your attackers and had kept it to protect yourself," the mean man huffed. "Not to mention, we took the dynamite away before Chrome woke up, so how did you even find that?"
Lambo was instantly distracted by Muku whistling.
"Do you have any more on you?" the lady asked Haya. Haya looked at her silently before he sighed and reached into his pocket.
"Here," Haya mumbled as he gave the lady two more sparky-sparky boom sticks.
"Good, thank you, you can have these back when you're older," the lady thanked him as Muku walked over to Haya.
"Your sacrifice was not in vain," he told him as he clasped his shoulder. "Lambo totally forgot about the pain. And you possibly saved Tsuna's finger as well."
"Yea!" Lambo cried happily when he heard his name, though he kept his attention the lady, who had put the two sparky-sparky boom sticks into her pocket.
Maybe she will light them up too?
"...Let's just continue," the tall man said right before he faced Lambo once more. Lambo's eyes focused on the bad sharp thing in his hand and whimpered when the man began to lean.
"It's okay," Kyo assured him as he squeezed Lambo a bit more tightly. Lambo looked up at him at the exact same time that he felt a sharp prick in his arm.
Lambo instantly started to wail as he closed his eyes at the awful pain.
Now his arm hurts! When was this man gonna stop?! And why were his siblings letting the man hurt Lambo?!
"And now it's my turn. Lambo look!" Lambo heard Muku cry. Despite still sobbing and feeling hurt in more ways than one, Lambo opened his eyes. Once he did, his teary green eyes grew very wide at the big, but also very beautiful butterfly.
"Now that is more like it," the lady said with a smile as the butterfly, whose wings were shimmering a lot of colors that Lambo had never seen before, flew towards him. Lambo couldn't help but let out a cheerful cry as he reached towards the pretty butterfly.
It was so shiny! And it was almost as big as his face!
However, instead of landing on his hands like Lambo wanted, the butterfly landed on his nose. For a moment, Lambo could only stare as the butterfly's beady black eyes looked straight at him. Lambo cooed, his pain forgotten.
Then, before he could reach up and touch the wonderful butterfly, he felt a sharp pain in his other arm. Lambo's face scrunched up as the tears began to well up once again.
Why?!
"That's it! We're all done!" the mean tall man exclaimed as he held his palms out. "Ultimate job Lambo!"
"Yeah, good job to the extreme Lambo!" Ryo cried with a fist pump.
"It's over now Lambo, you did well," Kyo told him as he rubbed Lambo's arm gently around the sore spot while he gave Lambo a peck on his forehead.
"Yeah, three cheers for Lambo!" Take cried happily. "Hip hip hooray!"
"Hip hip hooray!" Ome, Tsu, and Ryo joined in with Take joyfully. "Hip hip hooray!"
"You did good Lambo!" Haya praised him with a thumbs up, having gone back to sitting down on the chair.
"Really good," Muku added with a smile, his face not as pale anymore. Then the butterfly on Lambo's nose gave him a kiss before vanishing into thin air. Lambo cooed a bit sadly but then he got a real good look on his siblings' faces.
He didn't know why he kept getting hurt or what was going on now but his siblings were happy and they were proud of him. They also tried to cheer him up the whole time so-
"Yea!" Lambo cried happily as he brought his arms up, only to wince and whimper a bit afterwards.
His arms were sore! So were his legs!
Then suddenly, there was a purple circle on top of a white stick in front of his face.
"Here you go little buddy," the tall man said with a wide smile as he held out the object. "You ultimately earned it."
"You really have." Lambo craned his head back and saw that the pretty lady was now behind him and lovingly brushing his dark curls. Lambo then looked back down and scrunched his face at the strange object.
While Lambo was curious about the strange object, he didn't dare try to touch it.
The man had hurt him before with strange looking things! What if this thing hurt him too?!
"It's okay," Kyo assured him as he grabbed the object from the man and held it up to Lambo's lips. "It's perfectly safe. You can eat it."
"Oo, I think this is his first lollipop, I wonder how he is gonna react," Take said with a smile as Lambo tilted his head at the object, not as wary as before due to Kyo grabbing it.
"Oh, I bet he is going to love it," Tsu replied as Ome nodded. Lambo then finally dared to grab the white stick part of the strange thing with one hand.
No pain so far.
"To the extreme!" Ryo exclaimed as Lambo slowly put his mouth on the purple part of the object. His green eyes grew wide as a very...delicious taste erupted in his mouth.
Lambo then grabbed the white stick part with his other hand and began sucking like someone might take it away from him at any second. Everyone, even the adults, around him laughed.
Maybe the tall man wasn't so mean after all.
And thus begins Lambo's love for grape candy.
