It wasn't that hard…I just had to do a project on stereotypes for media studies. Nothing too difficult…
Or was it?
I walked home from school on the last day of tenth grade. As of now, it was the summer holidays!
My friend Rachel and I heard shrieks of laughter. We looked across the field, and spotted Megan and her friends.
The school bitches, the preps, the queen bees.
They looked in our direction and stopped laughing. Obviously we were the butt of their joke!
"There's one stereotype!" Rachel sighed with a hint of annoyance.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Oh come on, they are perfect stereotypical examples of us!" She replied.
"What are you talking about?" I asked again.
Rachel sighed again. "Well, in media, girls are nearly always represented as bitchy, backstabbing, preppy sluts!" She said.
I laughed. "Well…yeah, but…"
"Maybe we should base our media studies project on them!" Rachel giggled in a jokey way.
But my eyes widened.
"Not a bad idea!" I whispered.
"Uh…I was joking!" She answered.
"No I'm serious. If we pretend to be like them, maybe join their little group, then it will be easier and you never know, we could pass with an A+ in our tests!" I replied.
Rachel suddenly widened her eyes too. "Actually, that is a good idea! I know where they hang out after school…lets hurry home, get changed in our best clothes and head for the mall!" She grinned. "Oh, and don't forget our notebooks!"
Once we arrived at the mall half an hour later, we kept out eyes open for Megan and her friends.
"You see them?" Rachel asked.
"Oh yeah, they're in Burger King ordering a burger full of carbs-nutcase!" I replied, sarcastically. I nudged her in a friendly way to show I was joking.
Then, we really did see them.
Oh my god they looked hideous!
Megan was talking dramatically on her cellphone, mouth wide so you could see the chewing gum inside it.
I shuddered. Gross!
She clocked me, then snapped her cellphone shut after saying goodbye to the person on the other line.
They started walking towards us…oh god.
I started to shake a little. Had they caught on?
"Hey, I love your jeans, where did you get them?" Megan asked.
I was stunned…
