I don't own KHR.
Kyoya, slowly but surely, peeked his head over the hill. He saw a white flag (which was a thick, tall brown stick that they attached a white pillowcase to) sticking out of the ground several feet away from him. A quick and thorough look around told him that there was no one else in sight. Kyoya then brought his head back down.
"The coast is clear," Kyoya told his team, who were all sitting behind him. "But of course, it could very well be a trap."
It had been a little while now since Lambo had gotten his shots and since Hayato was now able to walk around without looking like an old man, they had decided to play a game outside. Out of the all games mentioned, Capture the Flag got most of the votes. Perhaps not the best game for Hayato to play, but he voted for it so if he was fine with it, then they were too.
And it helped too that Hayato could always get on someone's back if it came down to it.
"Mukuro-sama is on the other team," Chrome agreed with a nod.
"And Daemon," Ryohei added. "Or is he just a spectator? I extremely forgot."
"He's just a spectator, though I think he really wanted to join in, but couldn't because Giotto said that it wouldn't be fair," Takeshi corrected him nicely. "But then he let Lampo join Mukuro's team so..."
"Only because Mukuro's team needed one more person to be even with ours and even then he is just carrying Lambo around," Kyoya explained. "And he is definitely the weakest of the guardians."
When it was first decided that Lampo was going to join in their game, Kyoya had been excited at the opportunity to finally bite him to death. Then it was decided that he would carry Lambo (so that the baby could be a part of the fun) which had frustrated him.
How was he supposed to bite the man who had electrocuted Ryohei to death without endangering his baby brother?
Perhaps Kyoya could catch him when Lampo had put Lambo down or something...
"So what are we gonna do?" Takeshi whispered, who was now kneeling beside him with his head slightly over the top edge of the hill. His brown eyes roamed the surroundings before he brought his head back down and looked directly at Kyoya. "Should some of us just run out there and when the others, if they're there, are distracted, the rest of us go and get the flag back to base?"
"That's an extremely good plan Takeshi!" Ryohei praised while Kyoya thought over Takeshi's suggestion. "I volunteer to be part of the distraction!"
"I could help get the flag and make me and the person going with me invisible," Chrome volunteered. "Though I'm afraid that if Mukuro-sama doesn't see me, he's gonna know something's up."
"Leave Mukuro to me," Kyoya assured her with a smile, having come to a decision.
"So we're really going with my plan then?" Takeshi asked, sounding both proud and happy that they liked his suggestion so much.
"Yes, though there will be a few changes," Kyoya confirmed as he couldn't help but rub his hand through Takeshi's dark hair, making the younger boy's smile even bigger. "One is that I'm going to go out by myself and if he really is there, bite Mukuro to death. While I'm doing that, you and Ryohei will come out to grab the flag or if they are there too, stop Tsuna, Hayato, and Lampo from grabbing it instead. If the latter is the case, then Chrome will turn herself invisible and take the flag back to base without Mukuro's team being the wiser. She will be our trump card."
"Extremely works for me," Ryohei accepted with a nod while Chrome got out her trident.
"Me too," Takeshi agreed. "...Though I do have one question."
"And what's that?"
"You've been wanting to spar with Mukuro for a long time now haven't you?" Kyoya just smirked before he all but jumped over the edge of the hill they had been hiding behind.
Kyoya looked around him once more before he started walking towards their makeshift flag, his steps slow but steady. When nothing continued to happen, Kyoya went over several options on how to make Mukuro reveal his hiding place, if he was there. Giotto had hidden the flag so it was possible that Mukuro and his team hadn't found it yet. But considering how it didn't take long for Kyoya and his team to find it, he seriously doubted it.
Unless...Mukuro's team had already found it and what Kyoya was seeing right was just an illusion.
Kyoya instantly stopped and took one more look around, inwardly cursing the fact that Chrome couldn't see through Mukuro's illusions when he was really serious. Looking back at the flag, Kyoya knew there was really one thing to do to check if it was a trap or not. Hoping that his suspicion was wrong, Kyoya took out one of his tonfas and threw it hard at the flag.
The tonfa flew fast and like it was nothing, right through the white flag. It kept on flying until it suddenly stopped in mid-air.
"Ow!" A second later, Lampo appeared out of thin air, rubbing his lower back with one hand while holding the white flag with the other. Lambo, who was currently sitting on top of Lampo's shoulders, laughed as he kept his hold on Lampo's green hair.
Despite the fact that the flag was in the hand of the enemy, Kyoya couldn't help but smirk in satisfaction. He had finally gotten to hit Lampo, and without hitting Lambo too. Making his baby brother laugh was just a bonus.
"Kufufu...so what gave it away?" Kyoya tilted his head to the side and saw Mukuro standing a few feet away, a smirk on his face and a trident in his hand. "Or are you able to see through my illusions now too, my dear skylark-kun?"
Kyoya just chuckled as he brought out his other tonfa, his hand gripping the handle very tightly.
"No," Kyoya said quietly as he raised one of the weapons his mother had given his father in front of his chest. "It's just that, like any other pineapple, you are very easy to read."
Mukuro's hand tensing around his trident was the only warning Kyoya had before his younger brother closed the distance between them and swung his weapon at his head. Kyoya just quickly moved his tonfa and blocked it, the two metals ringing when they clashed with each other.
After that, chaos erupted all around them.
"Extreme backup!" Kyoya heard Ryohei yell, causing him to glance to his side just in time to see both Takeshi and Ryohei race towards them.
"Not if we can help it! C'mon Hayato!" Kyoya turned his head slightly to the other side and saw Tsuna racing towards Ryohei and Takeshi.
"Right behind you Tsuna!" Hayato cried out as he ran behind Tsuna. Granted, it definitely wasn't fast at all and Hayato looked like he was struggling a little, if not a lot. But Hayato also looked like he was having fun so Kyoya let it go.
"Our brothers are so cute," stated Mukuro as their younger siblings raced to meet each other on the battlefield, his trident still blocked by Kyoya's tonfa.
"Preach," Kyoya agreed. "Now, for being on the opposing team, I will bite you to death."
Mukuro just chuckled as he gave a big leap backwards. Kyoya quickly rushed forwards and aimed for his chest before Mukuro could summon a pesky illusion. However, before his tonfa could hit Mukuro's chest, his brother raised his trident and successfully blocked the strike. Kyoya wasn't aggravated though, it was only the beginning of their fight after all. And he did succeed in stopping Mukuro from summoning an illusion so there was that too.
Kyoya then took back his tonfa to aim it at Mukuro's right arm only for him to block that too.
"Looks like you're having some trouble, my dear skylark," Mukuro taunted with a smirk after they parried some more. "Usually you get a hit in by now."
"So?" Kyoya replied right after he successfully blocked a hit to the chest. "You haven't hit me yet either, or are you delusional enough that you think you're winning?"
"Oh, don't worry, I know that we are even...for now," Mukuro confessed as he pressed his trident down on Kyoya's tonfa. "After all, I still have yet to use my illusions, and you only hav-."
Then Kyoya heard someone call his name.
"Kyoya! Catch!" Kyoya glanced to the side just in time to see Takeshi throw his missing tonfa right at him like he was throwing a baseball. And just like anything Takeshi had thrown before, it was flying at mach speed.
But Kyoya just simply held out his hand and caught it before using it to block a blow that Mukuro had been aiming for his shoulder.
"You should have gone all out while you still could, my dear pineapple," Kyoya taunted with a smirk that definitely showed some teeth. Kyoya then moved to strike him with both tonfas but Mukuro quickly leaped backwards, not once, but twice.
Kyoya then raced forward as fast as he could but despite his burst in speed, Mukuro still managed to slam his trident down into the ground before Kyoya could get close enough. The ground instantly began to quake and break apart beneath him, and for a moment, all Kyoya could do to keep his balance.
But then the moment passed.
Already smelling the sweet fragrance of victory, Kyoya smirked before leaping to the closest piece of large earth that had yet to crumple into nothing. Kyoya then jumped onto the next big slab of earth before immediately leaping onto another one. Seeing how close Kyoya was to him, Mukuro tried to make the earth shake and break apart even faster. However, just before the slab of earth he was standing on crumpled into nothing, Kyoya pushed his legs to jump even farther.
But this time, instead of landing on an unstable piece of earth, he landed right in front of Mukuro. Heterochromatic eyes wide, Mukuro tried to defend himself by swinging his trident at Kyoya but the eldest brother just swiped the weapon away with one tonfa.
At the same time, he drove his second tonfa right into Mukuro's stomach.
Not too hard of course, Kyoya didn't want to damage his younger brother's internal organs. Just hard enough to make Mukuro immediately concede the fight.
And judging by the way Mukuro's face paled slightly before he wrapped his arms around his stomach while falling to his knees, Kyoya knew he had succeeded.
He had finally bitten Mukuro to death.
"You...suck," Mukuro breathlessly insulted him as he keeled over and placed his forehead to the ground. Kyoya just smirked and slapped the back of Mukuro's head before looking around.
The ground was back to normal and Ryohei, Takeshi, Tsuna, and Hayato were all on the ground several feet away from them. Or whether, Ryohei was sitting on the ground with his arms wrapped tightly around Hayato while Takeshi was sitting on Tsuna's back. He didn't see Lampo, Lambo, or Chrome, but he knew that Chrome was chasing after them. If she hadn't snatched the flag away and started running back to their own base already that is.
"Good job," Kyoya praised Ryohei and Takeshi as he walked towards them.
"Thanks!" Takeshi accepted happily while Ryohei beamed while nodding vehemently.
"It was an extreme fight!"
"For you maybe," Hayato grumbled as he eyed Ryohei's arms like they had offended his very existence. "You just tickled my armpits."
"Hey, if it extremely works, it extremely works."
"Takeshi, can you please get off so I can check on Mukuro?" Tsuna asked, lying flat on the ground with his eyes gazing at a point behind Kyoya, where Mukuro probably was.
"No can do Tsuna," Takeshi apologized as he didn't move an inch. "I can't risk falling into a trap and losing the game."
Knowing as well as anyone that Takeshi took his games seriously, Tsuna groaned slightly as he dug his face into the ground.
"Hey Mukuro, are you okay...ish?!" Tsuna called out after he lifted his face out of the ground. "Groan once for yes, two for no!"
Mukuro let out a groan that was both very loud and very dramatic.
"Oh good, he'll live," Tsuna said, sounding both relieved and satisfied.
"Do you know if Chrome got the flag back or not?" Kyoya asked as Hayato bent his head down, his teeth bared as he aimed for Ryohei's arm.
"I'm afraid not," Ryohei answered as he calmly snapped Hayato's mouth with one hand and covered it, causing Hayato to look even more agitated and offended. "But she did toss your tonfa to Takeshi, so she is definitely going after Lampo and Lambo to the extreme."
Kyoya nodded at the same time as Takeshi while Hayato mumbled up a storm, his mouth still covered up by Ryohei's hand. He was torn from going after Chrome to help her, or to stay here just in case Mukuro got his second wind and tried to free his teammates.
But then suddenly, his choice was made for him by a loud booming voice.
"Thanks to Chrome's quick thinking and skill, her team has successfully captured the flag! They won the game!"
Kyoya wondered how Daemon was projecting his voice like that when he couldn't even see him but quickly decided he didn't care. They had won, the plan had worked.
"Extreme!" Ryohei yelled as he raised both of his arms, finally freeing Hayato, who quickly seized the opportunity to get off of Ryohei's lap.
"We won!" Takeshi laughed as he rolled off Tsuna and rushed to give Ryohei two high fives, which Ryohei very eagerly accepted.
"You're okay Tsuna?" Hayato asked Tsuna, sounding a bit concerned as Tsuna got to his knees.
"Yeah, just...frustrated," Tsuna admitted with a huff. Hayato patted his back while nodding in understanding.
"We did it Kyoya!" Takeshi cried, causing Kyoya to turn his whole attention unto him and Ryohei, who were both looking at him with beaming faces.
"Yes, yes we did," Kyoya replied, his smile growing even bigger and wider. "Was there any doubt?"
"Honestly, not really. The flag being an illusion threw me for a little loop though."
"But we overcame the extreme obstacle and won to the extreme!" Ryohei chimed in. "We have to find Chrome and tell her what a great job she did to the extreme!"
"Yeah, I better congratulate her too." Kyoya turned his head and saw that Mukuro was now standing up, one hand on his stomach and his face not as pale as before. "She did trick and defeat a full grown mafioso after all...even if it was just Lampo."
"I'm sorry," Tsuna apologized sadly, who was now standing beside Mukuro. "By the time we realized Chrome was missing, it-"
"It's not your fault," Mukuro forgave him as he patted Tsuna's unruly hair. "I blame Lampo. If he had just stayed quiet..."
"Kyoya! Ryohei! Takeshi!" Kyoya turned around and smiled when he saw Daemon walking towards them with Chrome in his arms. Chrome herself was still holding onto the flag and Kyoya could see her gleeful proud expression all the way from here. "I did it! I got the flag all the way back to our base!"
"Extreme job Chrome!" Ryohei exclaimed as he raced towards her with Takeshi at his heels. "You were a very extreme trump card!"
"Yeah, you were the MVP!" Takeshi chimed in as Kyoya noticed that the rest of the mafioso, except for Alaude, were heading their way. Mukuro, Tsuna, and Hayato were also making their way towards the oncoming group. Kyoya then took a step forward, prepared to give his sister the praise she deserved, when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned his head and saw that the hand belonged to Alaude.
Before Kyoya could say anything, Alaude spoke quietly.
"Good job." Kyoya's gray eyes widened as he took in this unexpected praise. He knew Alaude and the others were watching them from somewhere (they wouldn't say how or where) but he honestly hadn't been trying to impress any of them. He had just wanted to win while also biting Mukuro to death.
But...it honestly did feel a bit nice.
"Though I noticed that you were having some trouble when you only had one tonfa," Alaude continued. "I can train you so that you wouldn't have that problem anymore, even when facing someone like Mukuro. If...that is what you want."
Kyoya was instantly torned between indignation and desire. He was indignant at the thought that someone suggested that he had such a clear and exploitable weakness. But when he imagined the possibility of being able to finally bite Alaude to death...he was excited.
"Daemon is definitely going to try to train Mukuro, that's for sure," Alaude as he looked up. Kyoya turned his head back around to see that both Daemon and Elena were fussing over Mukuro, who honestly just looked embarrassed...if maybe a bit pleased.
The mere thought of Mukuro actually getting trained by Daemon and becoming stronger than him was unacceptable.
"I'm in," Kyoya accepted as he looked back at Alaude. Alaude just smiled slightly before taking his hand off of Kyoya's shoulder.
"We will start at ten tomorrow morning in the training room," Alaude told him as he walked away, his tone leaving no room for debate. "Don't be late."
"Hn," Kyoya grunted amicably before finally going to Chrome and telling her that he was proud of her. When she beamed like the morning sun, Kyoya smiled back, feeling truly satisfied and content.
They played another round of Capture the Flag where this time the other adults (yes, even Alaude after being goaded to by Daemon) joined in. I will leave it to your imaginations on how chaotic and fun that turned out.
So, what did you think? Please tell me what you thought and felt in a review and I will update hopefully by the end of the month. Till then, have a great day or night! See ya!
