Sorry that this was a bit late Yu-qis, but better late than never right? I hope you like what I did with your prompt!
I don't own KHR.
"Why, I think that's a great idea!" cried the head Vongola cook, whose name Chrome couldn't recall for the life of her. "And we have plenty of pumpkin filling and the other ingredients too, so feel free to make as many as you like!"
"Really? Thank you!" Chrome exclaimed gratefully with a wide smile as she felt relieved inside. A few days ago, Lampo and Asari had been talking about how around this time last year both of them had been on a mission in America, who had been busy celebrating Thanksgiving. When Ryohei asked what Thanksgiving was, Giotto explained that it was an American holiday where people gathered together to give thanks for anything or anyone that they felt thankful for.
Lampo then went on to describe all the delicious food he and Asari had eaten at a American mafioso's place, from a giant turkey to the pumpkin pie. When he told them about how the pumpkin pie had a chocolate layer on the bottom, Chrome got an idea. An idea so wonderful that she couldn't wait for Lampo to finish talking so she could share it to her siblings in secret. Thankfully, when she finally got them all alone, they thought it was a good idea too.
They were going to make pumpkin chocolate-chip cookies for their guardians, their new family. Chrome had originally wanted to make them all pies like Lampo and Asari had in America but after some discussion (and some internet searching), they decided to make cookies instead. This way, not only would the desserts be easier to make, but they would be easier to distribute too.
All in all, Chrome was pretty excited.
"Do you have a recipe on hand or do you need me to find you one?" the cook asked as she smiled at them kindly.
"Don't worry, we got an extreme one!" Ryohei assured her while Tsuna held up the recipe that they managed to print without alerting any of the adults.
"As well as a reasonable one," Hayato added as he shifted his grip on Lambo's hand, who was standing silently by him. "Seriously, raisins and white chocolate along with pumpkin and regular chocolate? Talk about a stomachache waiting to happen."
"Yeah...some people have weird taste buds, never forget that," the lady cook told them with a scrunched face of digust. "Well, let me see what the recipe requires so I can laid the stuff out for you so you can start baking!"
"Oh, thank you!" Tsuna replied gratefully as he gave the cook (that's right, her name was Concetta!) the piece of paper.
"Yeah, we don't know where anything is here," Takeshi chuckled as he looked around the big kitchen. Luckily, it wasn't very busy since lunch had ended a little while ago, there were just a few people taking care of cleaning the last few dishes.
"Okay...got it," Concetta said as she quickly glanced over the recipe before giving it back to Tsuna. She then instantly went to the cupboards and started to pull out the things they needed so quickly that Chrome could barely keep track of it.
"Wow, she sure knows her kitchen," Mukuro said softly in awe.
"Of course she does, this is her territory," Kyoya stated with a firm nod of his head as the slightly hefty, middle-aged woman bustled around the kitchen.
"Alright, that should be everything you need, from ingredients to measuring cups," Concetta said after she finally went back to them and gave Tsuna the recipe. "I'll be over there looking over the pantry list if you need any help, okay?"
"Okay, thank you so much again!" Chrome exclaimed with a wave as Concetta walked over to the back of the kitchen.
"Bye bye!" Lambo cried cheerfully with a wave as Concetta waved back at all of them with a wide smile.
"Okay, first we have to preheat the oven to 375 degrees," Tsuna said while reading the recipe when Concetta had gone to the back of the kitchen where the pantry was.
"On it," Kyoya said quickly as he went straight to the oven.
"What's next Tsuna?" Takeshi asked as he picked up Lambo and put him on his shoulders, resulting in a wide smile from their baby brother.
"Oh um...we gotta line the cookie sheets with parchment paper sheets or-"
"I got the extreme parchment paper!" Ryohei exclaimed as he held up a big container that had the words parchment paper on it.
"And I'm guessing these trays are the cookie sheets," Mukuro added as he picked up a silver tray that could easily hold more than a dozen cookies. Then he put down the cookie sheet with a sigh. "Okay I can't hold it in anymore, what am I doing here?"
"You've extremely forgotten Mukuro? We're gonna make cookies to show our gaurdians just how much we're thankful for them taking us in!" Ryohei explained with wide gray eyes as he stopped in the middle of pulling the semi-transparent paper out of the container.
"I mean, I know that!" Mukuro exclaimed as he picked up the silver tray again and waved it in air. "It's just..."
"Too embarrassing? Because I was thinking instead of giving the cookies to them in person, we could put them in little baggies, drop them in front of their bedroom doors, and run," Hayato proposed a bit hopefully, like he honestly preferred this option over the other one.
"No, well...maybe," Mukuro admitted as he scratched the side of his head while he looked down on the marble counter. Then he looked back up at them. "But what I'm trying to get that is...I know nothing about cooking!"
Chrome was about to correct her brother that they were actually going to bake, not cook, when she realized that she knew nothing about either of them.
"Oh...me too!" Takeshi laughed carelessly.
"Extremely me neither!" Ryohei admitted with a firm nod, still in the middle of tearing the first piece of parchment paper.
"Wait, does anyone have any experience in cooking?" Kyoya asked everyone as he turned his back on the now preheating oven.
"Um...I used to watch my mom cook," Tsuna said meekly when no one spoke up. "Does that count?"
"No Tsu," Lambo answered before giggling.
"Well...I guess we're making poison then," Hayato said matter-of-factly.
"Hayato, don't joke about that!" Tsuna cried nervously as he held the recipe in his hands so tightly that the paper crinkled harshly. "What if...we really do make them sick?"
"We won't," Chrome managed to say firmly even though she was a little nervous now as well. "As long as we follow the instructions, we should be fine."
"Y-Yeah!" Hayato added, sounding a little panicked as he tried to calm Tsuna down. "And worst case scenario, Concetta is right over there!"
"Oh right," Tsuna replied, looking much less nervous as he lessened his hold on the wrinkled recipe while both Hayato and Chrome sighed in relief. Concetta should be able to answer any questions they had, so they really should be fine.
As long as they ask her their questions before one of her siblings just decided to wing it that is.
"So let's go ahead and conquered this challenge already," Kyoya said, actually looking a bit excited then he did before. "Mukuro, go ahead and lay out the cookie sheets so Ryohei can place the parchment paper on them already."
"Aye aye Captain!" Mukuro replied with a mock salute with the cookie sheet still in his hand, which nearly hit Ryohei square in the head. "Oops, sorry Ryohei."
"It's all extremely good!" Ryohei brushed off cheerfully as he finally ripped off his single piece of parchment paper.
"What's next Tsuna?" Kyoya asked with an excited smirk. As Tsuna listed the next step, Chrome looked between Kyoya and Mukuro (who was looking much more comfortable now) and smiled. When she had first introduced to her siblings her idea, she had noticed that Kyoya and Mukuro both seemed less excited about it. She hadn't thought much about it at the time, but now she realized it was because baking cookies wasn't their forte nor on their bucket list. Regardless, they still agreed to help her and the others.
She loved her brothers. All of them.
KHR
It really wasn't a disaster, thank goodness.
Sure, there had been a bit of a mess when Takeshi let Lambo crack an egg, and Kyoya had to almost manhandle Ryohei from digging his hand into the batter to dig the eggshells out. Sure, Concetta stopped them making more of a mess when they turned on the stand mixer before putting the whisk attachment into the batter. Sure, they had a hard time persuading Mukuro that no, it wasn't necessary to double the amount of chocolate chips. Sure, Tsuna had almost dropped the tray of unbaked cookies when he slipped on a bit of egg yolk that they had forgotten to wipe off the floor.
But Concetta assured them that there was almost always some kind of mess when it came to baking and Hayato caught Tsuna before his head hit the stove so it was all good.
"Mufufu," Mukuro chuckled in delight after he took a bite of his cookie.
"These...are delicious to the extreme!" Ryohei proclaimed with a mouth full of cookie as he raised his arms high in the air.
"Yeah, we really didn't make poison," Hayato commented happily before he took another bite of his nearly finished cookie.
"Thank goodness," Tsuna added with a satisfied smile. "Do you like it Lambo?"
"More," Lambo simply requested as he reached for the platter filled with the leftover cookies, his cheeks smeared with chocolate and the leftover cookie dough from the bowl.
"Okay, here you go little buddy," Takeshi laughed as he grabbed one and gave it to their now very happy baby brother. With her own half-eaten cookie in hand, Chrome looked at all the plastic bags, each filled with four big cookies and tied with an orange ribbon.
Chrome smiled when she realized that this was their first attempt at baking. They really had done well.
"Well, except for Lambo's face, everything's clean," Kyoya pointed out after he finished his last bite of his pumpkin chocolate-chip cookie. "Is everyone ready to go and deliver them?"
"Yea!" Lambo exclaimed, accidenly spitting out some cookie specks (luckily none landed on the leftover cookie platter).
"Yeah, me too," Hayato agreed as he popped the last bit of his cookie into his mouth. "We're just leaving them at their doors right?"
"Yeah," Chrome confirmed with a nod. As much as she would like to see their faces when they gave the adults their cookies, the adults were also very busy. She and her siblings weren't even sure if all the adults were going to be here tonight. So dropping a bag of cookies at each one of their bedroom doors seemed to be the best option. And if Chrome was being honest, a small part of her was relieved.
After all, what if one of the adults didn't like pumpkin?
"Then let's go," Kyoya said as he walked to the counter and grabbed a bag. They then each grabbed a bag or two and started to make their way out of the kitchen.
"Bye kiddos, I just know that they are going to love them," Concetta encouraged them by the door as they passed her. Then when Chrome walked by her, she reached into her pocket and held out a small packet of wipes. "Here, for when the little dear finishes his cookie."
"Oh, thank you!" Chrome exclaimed happily as she gratefully accepted the packet of wipes. She had been thinking of cleaning his face with a clean tissue she had but a pair of disposable wipes would do a much better job.
"You're welcome, now go and deliver those cookies!" Concetta accepted with a wide smile as she passed her. Once they all were all in the hall, they quickly made their way to the hall where all the adults slept.
They were almost there when they heard someone call out to them.
"Chaos, what do we have here?" Chrome turned around to see that Reborn was crossing the distance between them casually with an amused smirk on his face. "A cookie parade? Or perhaps one of you got the idea to give the Vongola cookies as thanks for taking you in?"
Was he just that good or was it that obvious?
"Yep!" Tsuna confirmed chipperly with a sincere smile. Then he held out a bag of cookies out to Reborn. "Here you go!
Reborn's dark eyes widened in surprise as he actually seemed a bit lost for words. Then he lightly smiled and accepted the bag of cookies from Tsuna.
"Let's see how they taste shall we?" he asked of no one in particular as he carefully undid the ribbon and took a cookie out before biting into it. Chrome waited a bit in nervous anticipation as Reborn slowly chewed, his face completely unreadable.
"...Perfectly passable," Reborn said with a small smile before turning around and walking away.
"Per...pass..." Hayato sputtered in indignation as Tsuna placed a hand on his shoulder.
"It's okay, he really did like them," Tsuna assured him before sighing heavily in relief.
"You were nervous that he might want to try 'training' you again weren't you?" Takeshi asked with a smile as Lambo finally finished his cookie on top of Takeshi's shoulders.
"A little bit yeah," Tsuna admitted as Chrome got the wipe out of the packet and used it to wipe off her baby brother's face and hands (she had to get on her tiptoes). As Lambo unsuccessfully tried to squirm away, she smiled in relief as well.
After all, it hadn't been for Reborn, she and Hayato probably would have died in that alleyway all those months ago.
"Well, that turned out well so let's keep going," Kyoya encouraged them as he continued their mission, Chrome and the rest of them quickly following suit. Not even a minute later, they were finally at the hallway where all of the adults slept.
"Wait, are we extremely knocking at the doors or just leaving them at the door to the extreme?" Ryohei asked.
"...I say since they're probably not in their rooms anyway, that we should just leave them at the door," Mukuro proposed.
"Agreed," Kyoya said with a nod before heading towards Alaude's bedroom door. "Everyone grab a door."
Everyone then scattered into different directions. Chrome herself went straight for Elena's door and gently leaned the bag of cookies against the doorframe. Smiling in satisfaction, Chrome straightened up and looked around.
"Hey Lambo, can you put this by Lampo's door?" Takeshi asked, standing by Asari's door as he gave Lambo the bag of cookies while pointing him towards Lampo's bedroom.
"Yea!" Lambo cried happily.
"You promise you won't try to eat the cookies?"
"Lam 'romise."
"Aw, he learnt another word, he's growing up so fast," Mukuro observed as Takeshi finally put Lambo down on the ground.
"I know, and to think it wasn't that long ago before he started referring to himself in the second person to the extreme," Ryohei added as Lambo waddled quickly to Lampo's door.
"Third person Ryohei," Chrome gently corrected as Lambo placed the cookies right in front of the Lightning Guardian's door.
"Oh right, thanks," Ryohei accepted as Lambo giggled in delight before returning to Takeshi and ramming right into his legs, almost making the tall boy fall over.
"So...does anyone want to play UNO?" Tsuna asked when it was clear that everyone was done dropping off their cookies.
"Sure, I'm down, I don't have anything else I need to do today," said a distinctly male voice. Chrome turned her head just in time to Daemon, Alaude, and Giotto turn the corner.
"What are you all doing?" Alaude asked before his blue eyes took in all the cookies by their doors. Then a small smile appeared on his face. "Oh."
"Oh my gosh...did you make those for us?" Giotto gasped, looking a bit teary-eyed and very touched while a very wide smile grew on Daemon's face.
"Kyoya run! They're going to go for a group hug!" Alaude suddenly exclaimed as he took out his handcuffs. Kyoya instantly started to run away, with Mukuro not far behind him, as Alaude tried to stop both Giotto and Daemon from taking another step into the hallway. Chrome laughed as she and the others (Takeshi picked up Lambo again) ran after their brothers.
Yep, baking cookies for the Vongola adults had been a good plan alright.
Alaude knows his family well, that's all I gotta say. :)
What do you think of this Thanksgiving special? Please leave a review on your way out and I will update soon (it will most likely be a Christmas special). Until then, I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving (for those who celebrate it anyway. For those who didn't, I hope you had a wonderful Thursday), and have a good day or night! See ya!
