Music.
My fingers gently fall upon the smooth ivory keys, their coolness calming me. Sighing I press down on one slim rectangle of white, and it sings. Slowly my other fingers settle into the rhythm, like holding a well remembered lover, and the keys sang a sweet melody, like rich, dark chocolate, filling every crevice and hollow within my palace.
I sway with the heady tune, molten silver occasionally slipping into my sight as I dipped my head forward listening intently to the music's seductive voice as it wrapped me in its grasp.
But that is not the only music that I cherish. The cries of agony as magic flame burns the human flesh, the gurgle of pleads for mercy as I near, their eyes staring feverishly upon me, as if I am some God and the delicate sound of tears hitting the ground beneath them as they realize that their mercy will not be granted. I smile as my tune hits its crescendo, throwing my head back in ecstasy before thumping my long fingered hands sharply down upon the keys, a screeching growl admitting from the wounded singer.
However, there was also music that was pure agony. The whorl and clicking of machines, the scratch of a pen across paper as it took notes, the harsh baritone as it spoke of glory, death and calculations as it stared hungrily upon my bleeding body. But, worst of all, the silence. That eclipsing silence that shadowed everything, everyone one who could be like me.
Thumping the keys once again, screams of pain rising and bellowing at me, I abruptly rose and swayed away from the injured singer, the clipping of my heels echoing around the empty room, like the cries of sadness that echoed in my heart and which was just as easily ignored.
