Spring Cleaning
Hello, everyone. This is one of my first Bad Batch fanfics. This chapter is set post S1, but Crosshair has rejoined the batch. Enjoy.
After losing Kamino, the batch decided to find a quiet safe planet where they could rest and become a family again. With Rex's help, they were able to find Abydoa. A small abandoned planet that was very beautiful and extremely peaceful. They found a settlement and landed near it only to find that it was a large house. They explored and found that each of them could get their own rooms, plus the main area, kitchen, two refreshers, and more. They quickly cleaned the place up and claimed their bedrooms.
Sadly, after a week, the batch found that while they liked their time alone, they couldn't sleep in separate rooms. They decided to keep their rooms, but they turned the large room into their bunk area. After that, the team got into a routine and after a month, everything was much better.
One morning, Hunter woke up and rolled out of his bunk, and landed on his feet. He started walking over to the refresher only to trip on Tech's project. Hunter growled as he landed on a half-eaten ration bar. Hunter stood up and looked around. This was the third time in the past day that he'd tripped over his brothers' things. That was all going to change.
"Hunter?" A voice moaned.
Hunter looked to his left and saw Omega in her bunk. She was awake and was watching him.
"It's alright, kid. Go back to sleep." Hunter whispered.
"Only if you go back to sleep," Omega answered.
"Sorry, 'mega. I have to go hunt for our supper. I'll be back before the others wake up."
"Can I go with you?"
Omega looked at Hunter who groaned and nodded.
The two dressed and packed for their short hunting trip. They had a quick breakfast and then ventured outside. Omega followed Hunter's every move whether she understood it or not. It wasn't long before they found their prey and Hunter had trapped it and killed it.
"This will do for the next few days." Hunter chuckled.
"Are we going back now?" Omega wondered.
"Yes, the others will probably be up and I have a job for all of us."
They arrived back at the house and walked inside to see Tech, Echo, Wrecker, and Crosshair enjoying a quick breakfast. Hunter took care of their dinner and walked into the squad room to change. Upon walking in, he tripped over Gonky and Echo's gear.
"That's it!" Hunter exclaimed. The batch winced at the tone of Hunter's voice. Hunter walked back out and looked at his siblings. "Is it that hard to keep your stuff in your room or at least in your area? Look at this place. It looks like a bunch of animals live here. Starting right now, we are cleaning this place till it is spotless and I expect it to stay this way. Understood?"
"Understood." The batch mumbled.
"Now, go clean up the squad room."
The batch walked into the squad room and began to clean it up.
"Uh, who's ration bar is this?" Wrecker asked.
"Probably Tech's." Crosshair sneered as he laid down in his bunk.
"Hey, why are you resting?"
"This isn't my mess."
"Good. Then you can do the laundry. Considering the fact that most of this pile is yours." Hunter stated as he threw Crosshair's shirt at him. Crosshair grabbed one of Hunter's bandanas and threw it at Hunter.
"I believe that is yours." Crosshair replied.
Hunter scowled and Crosshair chuckled.
"Cross, if I find another one of your toothpicks, you will regret it," Tech stated as he removed a splinter from his finger.
Omega held up a sharpening stone and looked at Wrecker.
"Is this yours?" Omega wondered.
"Uh, no. I think that's Hunter's." Wrecker answered.
"I believe you borrowed it from Hunter and never returned it," Tech stated.
Echo held up a drawing and looked at Omega.
"Omega, this whole pile of paper is yours." Echo said.
"Oops, sorry." Omega apologized. She took care of her mess but noticed that a few of the pages were not hers. She studied the drawings and looked at Hunter. "Hunter, is this yours?"
"Yep, that's Hunter's alright. I recognize his signature at the bottom." Wrecker chuckled.
"This looks pretty good. I didn't know you could draw."
"It's an old hobby. I gave it up when the war started." Hunter answered.
"Why am I not surprised to learn this about Hunter?" Echo wondered.
"After spending time with us, very few things surprise you," Tech stated.
After an hour of bickering and fighting, the squad room was finally clean. The team cleaned their rooms enough that others could walk in and not... well die.
"Man, I'd rather smash droids. This is hard work." Wrecker whined.
"Anything that requires you to use your brain instead of your strength is hard work for you." Crosshair sneered.
"Hey, you take that back."
"I'm afraid not."
Wrecker groaned and continued to clean his room. Hunter walked into Omega's room and saw that she was done cleaning.
"Hey, we still have the rest of the place," Hunter said. "We can't eat till we clean all the dishes."
"I know. I was just resting." Omega replied.
Hunter sensed Crosshair and Echo sneak by and he smiled.
"Just the two I wanted to see. Omega and I will clean the kitchen. You two can clean the table off and collect all our clothes and wash them." Hunter stated.
"What about Tech and Wrecker?" Echo questioned.
"By the time we're done, they'll only be halfway done with their rooms. Besides, the floor needs cleaning and so do the windows. The only thing clean in this place are the refreshers."
"Fair enough."
Echo and Crosshair went to work while Omega and Hunter walked to the kitchen and cleaned up. Omega washed a dish and some soap splattered onto Hunter.
"Hey, watch it, kid." Hunter teased.
"Sorry," Omega replied. Omega giggled and Hunter watched her carefully. When Hunter had dried the plate, Omega grabbed a large amount of soap and threw it at Hunter hitting him in the face.
"Hey!"
Hunter dipped his hand in the water and cupped his hand collecting some water. He tossed it at Omega getting her wet.
"Hey!" Omega exclaimed. "I'll get you for that."
Soon, the two were having a water fight and making a larger mess than there was before.
Echo and Crosshair finished cleaning the clothes and walked back inside and saw Hunter and Omega playing and laughing. It had been a long time since they had heard Hunter laugh. There was no worry and no seriousness. Just happiness and enjoyment.
"You'd better clean the floor before you slip and fall." Crosshair warned. Omega and Hunter stopped what they were doing and collapsed to the floor in laughter. The two were laughing so hard that they ended up hugging each other trying to stop. Wrecker and Tech walked out and stared at the two.
"What's with them? The kitchen's a bigger mess than it was before." Wrecker complained.
"They seem happy. Better not try to ruin the moment." Tech stated.
A few minutes later, Omega and Hunter looked around sighed.
"Now, we have to clean up this mess." Omega sighed.
"I'm sure we can get it done in no time," Hunter replied. "Come on."
They stood up and cleaned up the mess. Soon, the house was clean and everything was neat. They enjoyed a good supper and then sat down outside under one of the trees and looked up at the sky. They spotted several constellations and Tech would tell them the stories behind them. It was well after dark when Echo decided to go inside and sleep. Crosshair and Tech joined him but the other three stayed outside and watched the stars.
"Hunter, I had fun today," Omega whispered. "Cleaning was actually kind of fun."
"I enjoyed myself too, ner ad," Hunter whispered. Omega snuggled into Hunter's side and Hunter wrapped his arm around Omega and pulled her closer.
"I love you, Buir."
Omega soon fell asleep and Wrecker joined her while Hunter continued to stare up at the stars. He knew that soon, they would have to get back out there, but for the time being, he just enjoyed having his family together, happy and safe. For the moment, they had no worries and it was what they needed.
THE END
I've started a Bad Batch forum where all Bad batch fans can talk peacefully about likes and dislikes. It's not much right now, but with a little help, we can get it up and going.
