Hermione wracked her brains trying to find a polite way to tell the wizard in front of her to piss off.

He had started talking to her when she was getting a drink at the bar and had followed her to the edge of the dance floor.

He's just trying to be friendly, she thought.

"There you are, darling," a voice she hadn't heard in years said.

Pansy Parkinson wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her close.

"I was beginning to wonder if I would ever find you in this crowd," Pansy said, before kissing her straight on the mouth.

After resisting for a moment Hermione started to kiss her back.

What am I doing?

They parted when the wizard coughed to get their attention.

"So… you're a lesbian then?" he asked.

Hermione nodded.

"Right, well I will leave you to it," he said before walking away.

Once he was out of earshot, Hermione turned around to Pansy and asked, "what the hell was that?"

"Me saving your ass. I could tell you weren't into him and that he wasn't going to leave you alone, so I thought I'd come to your rescue," Pansy shrugged.

"Thanks. I wasn't sure how to tell him to piss off without seeming like a bitch," she replied gratefully.

"No problem."

The two stood staring at each other for a few moments and Hermione realised Pansy's arm was still around her waist.

The warm touch didn't just comfort her, it also made her feel tingly.

Perhaps it was the drink.

"Why don't you dance with me?" Pansy suddenly asked.

"I…"

"Come on. It will help you keep up our ruse," she said suggestively.

"Okay, why not?" Hermione replied.

A song with a heavy base came on as they made their way to the dance floor, and before both girls knew it they got lost in the music.

It had been a long time since Hermione had let herself go and she couldn't understand why she didn't do it more often.

As the song changed to something more sensual, the two girls moved in sync. Their hips connected and before they knew it so did their lips.

There was something different about kissing Pansy. Something she couldn't put her finger on, but whatever it was she liked it and didn't want it to stop.
