A/N: This is for Hermione Haven's October Roll-a-Drabble. The prompts were Hermione/Harry and breakup. It's 404 words.
Hermione sat on the chair opposite Harry rather on the sofa next to him which created an awkward atmosphere between them.
It's going to be even worse when I tell him it's over, she thought.
The two of them had been dating for six months. It had been one of those relationships where they had slipped from friends to lovers without actually saying what they were. It was only after Ron had asked them at Christmas what was going on between them that they decided to make it official.
"Have I done something wrong, Hermione?" Harry asked frowning.
"No, you haven't. It's just...please don't hate me," she begged.
That was the one worry Hermione had about being in this situation; that Harry would hate her so much it would ruin their friendship.
"Why would I hate you? You're my best friend and my girlfriend."
"I think we should break up. I love you - I really do," she said as he gave her a look of disbelief, "but I'm not in love with you. I wish I was as really wanted this to work out between us."
Hermione could tell that her words hurt him, but she hoped that he could see that she was trying to do what was best for the both of them.
"I understand why you're doing this, even if I don't like it. I thought we were really good together," he said sighing.
"I'm sorry," she told him tearfully.
Hermione had tried so hard to keep her emotions in check but seeing Harry's heartbroken expression made her tears come to the fore.
After a moments silence he said, "What do we do now?"
"I will move out. We won't be able to move on properly if we still live with each other. I'm sure we will see each other at The Burrow on Sundays," Hermione said quietly.
"Will we ever be the same again?" he asked.
"I don't know, Harry. I hope that in time we could still be friends but I'm not sure if we could ever go back to the way we were before," she said honestly.
The truth was she wished she could go back and stop this from happening before it ever began. Her friendship with Harry meant everything to her, and to think that it could have been destroyed because they took it further than it was meant to go made her heart break.
