Growing Up
Hello, everyone. this prompt was suggested by The Generic Ficer. Enjoy.
Hunter could smell it a mile away. He couldn't believe it. Their little sister was growing up. He woke up in the middle of the night to Omega getting up multiple times. He knew she had sworn a couple of times, but he ignored it. He could smell the pain that she was in. He stood up and walked out of his room and over to the refresher. When Omega walked out, she saw him and she groaned.
"Let me guess. Female problem?" Hunter sighed.
"Yes." Omega spat.
"Are you ok? What can I do for you?"
"Just leave me alone. I don't want to see you or talk to you again."
Omega stormed off to her room and Hunter sighed. Hunter heard crying but he wasn't sure what to do so he sat outside Omega's door. Several minutes later, he heard the door open and he looked up to see Omega.
"Come here, ad'ika," Hunter whispered. He pulled Omega into his arms and he hugged her close. Omega sobbed in his arms and Hunter just let her. "It's ok."
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean what I said." Omega apologized.
"I know you didn't, ad'ika. I know. I can sense your hormones. I know this isn't how you want to be."
"I don't know what to do."
"Neither do I, but I think we can wing it. First, let's get you to bed."
Hunter picked Omega up and carried her to bed. He laid her down and he helped her get comfortable. He could sense Omega's discomfort and he looked at her.
"How are you feeling?" Hunter wondered.
"Ok. Just uncomfortable. My back and my waist hurt." Omega replied.
"Maybe a heat pack will help with that. Are you hungry or thirsty?"
"Both."
"What do you want?"
"Some of that drink that Wrecker likes and some of that fruit that Tech picked yesterday."
"Ok."
Hunter walked downstairs and got Omega everything she needed and wanted. He walked back upstairs and saw that Omega had opened the window. He watched as she laid down on the bed and seemed more relaxed.
"Here, you go," Hunter whispered. Hunter handed Omega the heat pack and she placed it on her stomach and sighed. "And here's your snack. DOn't tell Tech or Echo. I'm supposed to be the strict one."
"I won't," Omega answered. Omega started eating the fruit and she looked at her datapad. "Can I watch a movie?"
Hunter rolled his eyes and sighed.
"I guess, but only one and it has to be a short one." Hunter sighed.
"Ok," Omega replied. Hunter grabbed the datapad and handed it to Omega. Omega picked a movie and started it. Hunter set the datapad up so they both could see it clearly. Omega curled up against Hunter's side and he hugged her close. The two had a hard time keeping quiet as they watched the movie. When it was over, Omega yawned and handed Hunter her tray. Hunter put the datapad back on the desk and put the tray on the floor. Hunter tucked Omega in and placed Lula in Omega's arms.
"Get some sleep, ad'ika," Hunter whispered.
"Thank you, Hunter. I feel better already."
"I know. I can sense it."
Hunter kissed Omega's forehead and waited till she was asleep before he left the room with the tray.
This was how it was nearly every month after that night. Hunter was always there when Omega's period would start and he'd be waiting with a heat pack, snacks, a movie, and some hugs. Some months were easier than others, but Hunter was always there when she needed him.
Wrecker woke up and got up out of bed. He walked out of his room and heard huffing coming from the refresher. He saw that the door was opened and he looked to see Omega trying to treat her face. Wrecker saw the spots on her face and he winced.
"I wouldn't pick at those if I were you. It only makes it worse. Trust me, I know." Wrecker chuckled.
"They hurt and they're annoying," Omega replied. "I don't know what to do."
"When I was little, my face was covered in spots. The others called it acne, I think. Anyways, Tech had a special salve for me to put on my face, and boy did it work. When the others acne starting getting worse, they'd use it too and it helped them. Maybe Tech would know how to make it."
"Ok. I guess I could give it a try."
When Tech woke up, Wrecker asked him for the salve and Tech made some up for him. Wrecker walked over to Omega who was sitting at the table next to Hunter eating breakfast.
"Here you are, kid." Wrecker said.
"Thank you, Wrecker." Omega thanked. Omega ran upstairs and Hunter smiled at Wrecker.
"You're a good big brother, Wrecker." Hunter complimented.
"I just didn't want her to learn the hard way like I did." Wrecker answered.
"Like we all did."
"I did not pick at my acne," Tech stated.
"Of course you did," Echo exclaimed. "I know you. You seem like the idiot who would."
Omega walked back downstairs and hugged Wrecker.
"Thank you, Wrecker. It's helping already." Omega thanked.
Later that day, Wrecker came home from work and saw Omega on the couch. He could tell that she wasn't feeling well.
"Are you alright, kid?" Wrecker wondered.
"No. I'm not. I'm not feeling well. When will Hunter be home?" Omega snapped.
"Uh... not till after supper. He has a lot of fo work to do."
"Great!"
"Can I help?"
"I guess."
"What seems to be the problem?"
"What do you think?"
"I don't know. I can sense anything like Hunter."
Omega rolled her eyes and Wrecker looked down at the floor.
"Is it that thing that Hunter mentioned a while back?" Wrecker wondered.
"A period? Yes." Omega huffed.
"Oh."
Wrecker tried to remember what Hunter told him and the others to do when Omega had her period. Wrecker grabbed a heat pack, blanket, pillow, Lula, and he placed them on the couch. Omega smiled slightly and allowed Wrecker to bundle her up.
"What can I get ya?" Wrecker asked.
"Your favorite drink and some of that fruit," Omega answered.
"Coming right up."
Wrecker got what Omega wanted and then he sat down beside Omega. They watched a movie together and when it was over, the others arrived home. Whenever he could, Wrecker would help Omega through any and all problems that she was having. Wrecker enjoyed helping when he could and he enjoyed the time he spent with Omega.
Crosshair woke up and heard huffing and groaning coming from the refresher. He walked out and saw Omega in the refresher fixing her hair, but it seemed that her bandana wasn't working.
"Here, let me help you." Crosshair suggested as he took over. "The more frustrated you get, the worse you're gonna be."
Crosshair brushed Omega's long hair and then allowed Omega to instruct him on how she wanted it done. Crosshair braided Omega's hair and then tied it off. He wrapped the bandana around Omega's head and she smiled.
"Thank you, Crosshair." Omega thanked.
"Your welcome." Crosshair replied. Omega left the refresher and Crosshair heard snickering and looked to see that it was Hunter and Wrecker. "DOn't say anything. Besides, the two of you would have done it."
"He's got a point." Wrecker answered.
Wrecker and Hunter walked downstairs and Crosshair followed. He saw Omega struggling to put her books in her bookbag and he sighed.
"Come here." Crosshair sighed. Omega walked over and Crosshair took the bookbag and the books away from Omega. He placed his hands on her shoulders and looked her in the eyes. "Relax." Omega rolled her eyes but did as she was told. "Take a deep breath and close your eyes." Omega did as she was told and she relaxed even more. "Now try."
Omega put her books in her bag and didn't have any trouble.
Crosshair always seemed to know how to get Omega to think straight. He knew when Omega was getting frustrated and he'd always tell her to relax and breathe.
Echo walked inside and saw Omega trying to hide her clothes.
"What happened?" Echo wondered.
"Nothing." Omega lied. Echo sighed and looked at the pile of clothes and saw blood. "I laughed too hard on my way home and I had an accident. I'm sorry."
"Omega, relax. You couldn't help it. I'll take care of this. The smell would probably make you feel worse."
"Ok."
"Did you take a shower?"
"No. I was gonna wait till tonight."
"Go take one now. It might help you feel better."
"Ok."
Omega took a shower and when she came out, she groaned as she tried to brush her hair. Echo saw her and he took the brush. He brushed Omega's hair gently and Omega smiled.
"Did you ever have to brush Hunter's hair?" Omega wondered.
"A couple of times when he broke his right arm and his left shoulder. He couldn't brush it so we had to. You learned quickly how to do it without hurting him. His head is very sensitive." Echo explained. When Echo was done, he handed Omega the brush and then he checked Omega for a fever.
"Echo, I'm fine. I don't have a fever."
"Yes, but you do feel warm. You should go rest."
"What about my chores?"
"We'll figure something out."
Omega went to bed and tried to rest. Echo checked on Omega every chance he had and while it irritated Omega, she couldn't stay mad for long. After all, Echo was just being a momma bear.
Tech watched Omega walk into the kitchen and look around for something to eat. She saw the fruit that Tech picked, but she didn't touch it.
"Here, this will help with your cramps and with the bleeding. It will give you energy and help your body recover. It'll also help with your acne." Tech explained. Omega took the fruit and opened it. She started eating and she watched Tech.
"When did you look that up?" Omega wondered.
"What up?"
"Periods and what foods help."
"Oh, I did that when you first joined us. I knew it was only a matter of time before you hit puberty. When Hunter told me that you were getting closer, I tried to find some foods that would help. This fruit is perfect."
"It's good too. Thank you, Tech."
"Your welcome."
As Tech observed Omega, he noticed more and more things to help her as she struggled through puberty. He started stocking up on supplies that could potentially help Omega and it made Omega smiled.
