Style
Hello, everyone. This prompt was suggested by The Generic Ficer. ENjoy.
Omega walked downstairs carefully and tried not to rub her itchy side.
"I'll be glad when they remove these stitches." Omega groaned.
"You'll still have to be careful. I learned that lesson the hard way." Hunter answered.
"What happened?"
"I failed one of the tests they made us do and I got badly cut across my chest. They put stitches in and they didn't stop training. SO for a few weeks, I was training with stitches in my chest. They finally removed them and I thought I could go back to how things were before the incident. Well, I decided to pull myself up in training and tore open the wound and I ended passed out on the floor from the pain and blood loss."
"I think I'm gonna be more careful."
Wrecker walked into the kitchen and groaned.
"I'm starving. What's for breakfast?" Wrecker wondered.
"Your favorite." Hunter chuckled.
"Pancakes, sausage, bacon, and eggs. Great."
"You can help with the pancakes."
Wrecker helped Hunter in the kitchen and by the time they were done making breakfast, the others were downstairs trying to wake up.
"Breakfast is served." Wrecker exclaimed.
There was a knock on the door and Echo opened it and saw Rex.
"Rex, what are you doing way out here?" Echo asked.
"I was in the area. Decided to stop by. Hope that's not a problem." Rex answered.
"Come in, Rex. You know you're part of this family. Want any breakfast?"
"Depends on who made it?"
"I did." Hunter chuckled as he sat down.
"In that case, sure," Rex answered. Rex sat down at the table and they started grabbing food. "So, what's been going on around here?"
"Well, I got shot," Omega said. Rex looked at Omega and then at Hunter.
"When?"
"A couple of weeks ago. It was pretty bad."
"Well, getting shot is never fun."
"But, I got my armor and I finished painting it. Hunter gave me a Vibro blade and when I'm fully recovered, I'm gonna start training."
"Sounds pretty good." Rex chuckled.
"But we need to wait for the doc's all clear." Hunter pointed out.
"Yeah, pulling stitches or bacta patches can be worse than the actual wound itself. My advice, take it slow and take your time. Just because the rest of us were able to fight people like Wrecker at your age doesn't mean you have to be able to. Don't expect yourself to do everything perfectly the first try. Just because we make things look easy doesn't mean it is. I bet it took HUnter years to learn all of his knife tricks." Rex explained.
"He's got a point and it took Crosshair a couple of years before he was able to hit a target the way he does. Wrecker wasn't able to disarm a bomb the first try. It took him a lot of practice. It took years for Tech to learn all he knows and it took Echo months to get used to his arm."
"Ok," Omega answered.
After breakfast, Omega walked upstairs to put on her armor.
"Are you planning on training her to do things the way you do?" Rex wondered.
"What do you mean?" Hunter asked.
"I mean, are you going to expect her to be able to shoot in the same way Crosshair shoots? Are you gonna expect her to fight the exact same way you do?"
"Oh, I don't know WHy?"
"Well, what works for you doesn't work for me. What works for me doesn't work for you. Just because we all have the same DNA doesn't mean we do everything the same. Everyone has a different style of fighting and surviving. Your fighting style probably won't work for her. She may have to change it to work for her. It doesn't mean your way is wrong or her way is wrong. And it doesn't mean she's not ready, it just means she's different. Nothing wrong with that."
"I think we're so busy thinking about how we're going to train her that we forgot that her way of fighting won't be like ours. We all have specific skill sets. Her skills are different. Thanks, Rex."
"Just remember. Be patient with her and encourage her. But she does need to learn to pick herself up. DOn't pick her up every time she falls. There's a difference between being like the Kaminoans, being too protective, and being right in the middle. Challenge her, but not too much. Help her, but let her figure things out on her own."
"Thanks."
Omega walked downstairs carefully and Rex chuckled when he saw her armor.
"Well, it's certainly you." Rex chuckled.
"DO you like it?" Omega wondered.
"Yeah, kid. I like it."
Omega held out her blade and stood in a position she had seen Hunter stand in several times. Hunter noticed that her stance was like his but there was one difference. Where he held the blade in his left hand, she held it in her right hand. Hunter looked at Rex and nodded.
"Well, I'd like to stay longer, but I have an assignment coming up. I'll see ya around. Take care." Rex sighed as he grabbed his gear. They all said goodbye and Re left for his ship.
"So what were you and Rex talking about?" Omega wondered.
"Styles," Hunter replied. "You'll understand soon."
Hunter told his brothers what Rex had told him and when they started training Omega, they kept Rex's words in mind. Sure enough, they did prove useful and soon, Omega had techniques that worked only for her.
