The Dad Batch
Hello, everyone. This prompt was suggested by The Generic Ficer and will be the last prompt until May. ENjoy.
The batch had decided to visit the Lawquences for a few days after having a rough few months of missions. CUt and Suu took them in with open arms and Shaeeah and Jek were happy to see their aunt and uncles.
"Omega, come play with us," Jek said.
"Hold on, kids. Let the boys and Omega rest a little while and get settled in. Then you can play." CUt warned.
"Ok."
"You can help Omega get settled in."
Shaeeah and Jek smiled and took Omega upstairs and helped her settle in. Cut and Suu gave the boys a place to stay and the boys settled in and tried to take a nap. Omega was settled in and being around Shaeeah and Jek had given her energy and she no longer wanted to take a nap.
"Come on, we can go outside and play," Omega said.
"But what about rest?" Jek wondered.
"I'll be fine. I don't need a nap right now."
The kids ran downstairs giggling and laughing.
"Omega, come here." Echo stated.
"What?" Omega huffed as she walked in.
"It's naptime. You don't have to actually take a nap, but you did need to stay inside and at least rest for a while."
"But I don't want to."
"Omega, trust me. You might feel energetic right now, but that won't last long and you'll get short with Shaeeah and Jek."
"No, I won't."
"Yes, you will. You've done it before. We all have. We know from experience. You are going to rest even if it means I have to tie you to a cot."
"But I don't want to take a nap."
"Then you can read a book on Tech's datapad. I'm sure he'll let you use it."
"Fine."
Omega grabbed Tech's datapad and sat down on the extra cot. It wasn't long before Omega was passed out. Cut had heard the conversation between Echo and Omega and he chuckled.
A few hours later, the batch woke up one by one feeling more refreshed and relaxed. Tech and Echo stayed inside and worked on Echo's prosthetics while the others went outside.
"Now, can I play with Jek and Shaeeah?" Omega wondered.
"Yes, but stay near the house. I don't want you getting hurt. I'm gonna get the refresher and get cleaned up." Hunter answered.
"Ok."
HUnter walked back inside and Crosshair and Wrecker helped Cut work around the house. The kids played near the edge of the woods not seeing a beast in the woods watching them. Jek threw the ball towards Omega who missed. The ball rolled towards a bush and Omega grabbed it only for the beast to jump out and growl. The kids screamed and Cut, Wrecker, and Crosshair looked over. Crosshair grabbed his rifle.
"What is that thing?" Crosshair questioned as he climbed a tree.
Omega and the kids slowly tried to back away, but the beast growled and pounced on Omega. Crosshair took the shot and the beast whimpered and fell on top of Omega. He rushed out of the tree to Omega. Wrecker and CUt pushed the beast off Omega and Wrecker picked her up.
"Are you ok, kid?" Wrecker wondered.
"I think it got me. I'm sorry. I should have stayed closer to the house." Omega sobbed.
"You were near the house. We should have checked the woods and made sure there were no wild animals that could hurt you kids." Crosshair sighed. Crosshair saw a few scratched on Omega's arms and he took her from Wrecker. "Come on, let's get your arms looked at."
Crosshair carried Omega who continued to sob.
"I'm sorry." Omega whimpered.
"You have nothing to apologize for. DOn't waste your apologies." Crosshair hushed. He ran his fingers through Omega's growing hair and they walked inside.
Several minutes later, Hunter walked downstairs and heard Omega crying. He saw Crosshair and Tech treating Omega's arms and he rushed over.
"What happened? Are you ok?" Hunter questioned.
"A boar was hiding in the woods. The kids were just playing and it attacked Omega. They were near the house. We should have made sure there were no wild animals that could hurt the kids." Crosshair explained. "It scratched her arms, but she'll be fine."
Wrecker walked in with Lula and handed her to Omega who hugged Lula close and continued to cry. Wrecker pulled Omega into his arms and hushed her.
"There, there. I know you were scared, but it's all over now. Crosshair got the beast. It won't hurt you again. Come on. Let's go back outside and play while it's still light out. Don't worry. I'll protect you from all the scary beasts." Wrecker assured. Omega nodded and calmed down as Wrecker carried her outside.
Laughter could be heard outside as the kids and Wrecker played. Hunter walked over to the door and watched them play. Omega was running and laughing with Wrecker by her side.
A little while later, Echo walked over and chuckled.
"Come on inside. It's time to eat." Echo said.
Everyone ran inside and sat around the table.
"If you finish your meal, you will still have time to go outside and collect lightning bugs," Tech said.
"Lightening bugs? What are those?" Omega wondered.
"They're bugs that glow in the dark." Wrecker answered.
"It's a little more complicated than that, Wrecker," Tech stated.
Over dinner, Tech explained lightning bugs and after dinner, the kids grabbed a jar and ran outside and saw the lightning bugs. Omega gasped at the sight and watched as Shaeeah and Jek tried to catch a few. Omega looked up at Tech and then at the bugs.
"Tech, how do I catch one?" Omega wondered.
"I will help you," Tech answered.
Tech helped omega catch some lightning bugs and observe them in her jar. It was late when Crosshair walked out.
"Time for a shower, womp rat." Crosshair sneered.
"Just a few more minutes," Omega whined.
"No. COme on, the sooner you take your shower, the more time you'll get to have to talk with Shaeeah and Jek."
"Fine."
Omega went to take her shower and when she was done, she walked over to Hunter who helped her dry her hair and brush it.
"There." Hunter sighed when he was done.
"Can you braid it, please?" Omega wondered. Hunter sighed and braided Omega's hair. When he was done, Omega went to play with Shaeeah and Jek for a little while longer.
AN hour later, Echo walked over to where the kids were playing and gave Omega a look.
"Time for bed, ad'ika." Echo said.
"Just a few more minutes. Please?" Omega begged.
"You'll have all day tomorrow, Omega. You need your rest."
"But I had a nap."
"You also had a big scare. Come on. I'll read to you."
Omega huffed but did as she was told. She followed Echo to her bed and he read to her. Omega was curled up on his lap with her face buried into Echo's neck. Echo read till Omega was out cold. He carefully laid her down in her bed and kissed her goodnight.
He walked downstairs and saw his brothers sitting around the table playing a game. Suu was busy trying to get Jek and Shaeeah ready for bed and Cut was helping her. Soon, the kids were in bed and the adults sat around the table talking.
AN hour later, the others started getting ready for bed when they heard Omega screaming and yelling. Everyone rushed upstairs and saw Omega having a night terror.
"She won't wake up," Jek said.
"DOn't wake her. It's not a nightmare. We just have to wait for her to go back to sleep." Tech warned.
Omega's night terror went on for several minutes and the brothers kept an eye on her. Eventually, Omega calmed down and Hunter caressed her cheek.
"Sleep, ad'ika. You're not alone." Hunter whispered. When Omega was asleep, Hunter picked Omega up grabbing her blanket and trooper. Wrecker grabbed Lula and they walked downstairs. Hunter tried to lie her down on his cot, but Omega whimpered and clung to Hunter. Hunter hushed her and rocked her in his arms like she was a baby knowing that it was soothing for her. He rubbed her back and looked at Crosshair.
"Can you take one of her nighttime nutritional packs and mix it in some warm milk?" Hunter asked. Crosshair nodded and walked to the kitchen. Hunter sat down on the floor and Omega whimpered and held on tighter. "I'm not going away. I'm right here, Omega."
"I'm scared." Omega rasped.
"I know. You're gonna stay with me tonight."
"Ok."
"Crosshair is making you some nutritional shake. It'll help you sleep better."
"Ok."
A few minutes later, Crosshair walked back in with a cup of Omega's drink. He knelt beside Hunter who moved Omega so that she was more comfortable.
"Here." Crosshair whispered. Omega took the cup and drank some of the liquid. Hunter rubbed her back and could feel her relax. A little while later, Omega handed her cup to Crosshair sleepily and laid her head on Hunter's shoulder. Hunter carried Omega to his cot and he laid down with her on his chest. It didn't take long for Omega to fall asleep.
The next morning, everyone was eating breakfast and trying to wake up.
"So, what's the Dad batch doing today?" CUt wondered. The brothers stared at Cut in confusion. Wrecker looked at his brothers while the others were stunned.
"The dad batch?" Echo questioned.
"You all act like you could be Omega's dads. You may not believe but yesterday, each of you handled Omega in ways that fathers would."
"But we're just her brothers. Heck, she's older than us." Hunter chuckled.
"But all of you have aged quicker than she has. To the galaxy, you're older than her and you're all her dads." CUt replied.
"We never saw ourselves that way," Tech stated.
"But you know that's exactly what you've been doing?"
"You would be correct."
"There's just one problem with us being the dad batch." Crosshair sneered.
"What's that?" Echo wondered.
"It's 4 dads and 2 kids."
"Who's the... HEY!" Wrecker exclaimed. "Well, if I'm the other kid, then Echo's the mom of the batch and Hunter's big-time dad."
Echo and Hunter looked at each other in confusion and then rolled their eyes.
"Well, I guess there's no point in denying it." Hunter chuckled.
"Speak for yourself." Echo replied.
Cut made sure that Rex knew of his new nickname for the batch and the next time to batch saw Rex, Rex teased them about being the dad batch and the batch huffed knowing that CUt had told him what happened. As time went on, each of the brothers grew into their roles as Omega's dads. Each one, helped Omega grow in different ways and helped her with different problems in life.
