Wrong

Hello, everyone. This prompt was suggested by SliverJedi17. Enjoy.

It had been another rough mission and everyone was exhausted and on edge.

"This is the third mission in a row that's gone bad, Hunter." Echo exclaimed.

"I know. You don't have to tell me." Hunter replied.

"We should have checked the informants."

"There wasn't time."

"We shouldn't have even taken the missions in the first place and you know it." Tech stated.

"We need the credits. You were there. We didn't have a whole lot of options." Hunter sighed.

"BUt you always seem to pick the wrong ones." Wrecker scoffed.

"Thanks, Wrecker. That's really nice to hear. If you think it's easy, why don't you guys take charge." Hunter spat.

"Maybe we should. You don't seem to be getting us anywhere. In fact, we're more indebted than we were before." Tech replied.

"What?"

"Tech's right." Echo stated.

"Our odds haven't been in our favors." Omega sighed.

"You can't be serious. I… Fine. Forget it. I won't even bother." HUnter scoffed. He walked out of the cockpit and sat on his bunk. He chucked his helmet across the room in anger and laid down unsure how to feel. He heard the door open and close and sighed.

"You know, I'm not as blind as those di kuta. You're right. We need the credits and the best way to get them is through these missions. And lately, they haven't been the greatest of missions." Crosshair sighed.

"I just can't believe that they don't believe in me anymore. I thought… I was doing what was best for all of us. Guess I was wrong." Hunter replied.

"Heh, when I was commander of my… squad, it showed me a thing or two about being in charge. I realized it was something I didn't want. You can have that job. You do what you think is right and you include the others, but ultimately everything falls on you. Every failure is not our fault, it's your fault. In the GAR, it was how things were, but now… we're not just soldiers, we're a family. We can't carry our burdens alone. They've forgotten that."

Crosshair walked back into the cockpit and saw the others planning.

"We're looking at our next assignment. We'll be going to Corellia to pick up an informant for the Rebellion and take them to ORd Mantell." Echo stated.

"Who confirmed?" Crosshair questioned.

"Cid's contact. She says they're reliable."

"Huh, Cid said that about the last few missions. I don't approve of this mission. Have you contacted Rex?"

"Rex doesn't know this informant, but he can't know every informant in the galaxy."

"Hunter wouldn't take it."

"Hunter's not fit to lead us."

"ANd neither are you. Besides, I think you're forgetting a thing or two. One, Hunter was a sergeant in the GAR. His orders came from high ranks. ALl he had to do was come up with a plan and lead us into battle. Now, he's having to pick and choose our missions and everything. He never had to worry about needing credits so we could have food, water, and shelter. Now, he does. Two, we're not soldiers in the GAR anymore. Now, we're just a family and a family works together and they take responsibility together. As a sergeant, every failure fell on Hunter's shoulders. Now, they fall on our shoulders. Every failure isn't just on him, it's on us as it should be." Crosshair explained.

"It doesn't change the fact that the past 3 missions have been failures." Echo stated.

"Are we alive and well?"

"Yes, but we could have been hurt."

"That's the risk we all take in life. You could get hurt just walking down the streets of Cerian CIty. I can tell you right now that this mission is a trap to lure us out into the open. Any mission with informants not confirmed by Rex is. Hunter knows that, hence why he doesn't suggest them."

"We're going with the mission."

"No, you're not. You may think you're incharge, but you'll fall. You're irrational and vulnerable. I won't follow you, only Hunter."

"You used to hate Hunter's authority over you and now, you're defending him?" Echo questioned.

"Because I realized what it meant to lead a squad in an army. ALl eyes are on you. Every move you make could lead to a mistake and people getting killed. It was unbearable. I couldn't even begin to understand what Hunter goes through on a day to day basis now. Feeling as though every breath he takes is the wrong breath. Every move being the wrong move. Hunter's been taught and trained to lead and take responsibility for our mistakes and failures. He's been trained that every little failure is his fault. He was punished as a cadet when we failed. Not us, him. He had to endure that trture and now… he can't break that habit and it seems you can't break the habit of questioning him. We're not soldiers anymore. We're veterans. We have to put being a soldier behind us and start being a family. And we can't be a family if we're not owning up to our failures." Crosshair explained.

Crosshair left the room and Omega followed him.

"Is it true about HUnter? What he went through?" Omega wondered.

"Yes." Crosshair sighed. Omega looked and saw Hunter still sitting on his bunk obviously not listening. Omega walked over and placed a hand on his knee.

"I'm sorry I blamed you for the missions going bad. It wasn't your fault." Omega apologized.

"It's alright, kid. You… you're still learning and growing. We all are, I guess." Hunter sighed.

"I'm sorry too. Crosshair's right. We're not soldiers anymore. We're just a family. We all take the blame, not just you." Wrecker answered. Hunter nodded and looked at Echo and Tech.

"I guess I'm so used to being a soldier, that I've forgotten that we're also a family. A family needs every member or else it doesn't work properly. We need you… to lead us." Echo said.

"You are the best leader out of all of us. It is logical to have you lead our family. BUt we're here to help in any way we can." Tech stated.

"I forgive you. Why don't we take a day to be a family before we think about our next mission?" Hunter suggested. Everyone nodded in agreement and they went home to rest. AFter this incident, everyone remembered that they were a family and no longer soldiers for the GAR.
