Hello, everyone. This prompt was suggested by The Generic Ficer. Enjoy.
The batch had slowly been helping Omega handle her trauma and scars. They had learned how to approach them and what topics to avoid.
School was a month away on ABydoa and the batch knew Omega needed to go, but they feared for her.
"I've drawn up a plan on how to and not to handle Omega and her traumas. Hopefully, her teacher will adhere to them." Tech stated.
"COuldn't we enroll her and then have her school her at home?" Fives wondered. "The past few months have been hard with all of us finding out about them. I don't think others will be as kind or helpful."
"She doesn't have any friends. She needs friends and people to talk to. We'll make sure she's safe. Remember, we have 3 choices for schools and we can talk to the principals and teachers. If they don't accept, then we can say no." Echo replied.
"What if they all say no?" Omega wondered.
"Then we'll school you here and make sure you interact with other kids."
"You need a better routine. We all do. This… may help." Hunter stated.
"I understand." Omega sighed.
The meetings with the first 2 schools did not go well. Both did not understand the need for compassion toward students and were unwilling to accommodate Omega's needs. They all held their breaths as they waited to meet with the third and final school.
"Hello, I am Mrs. Je. I am the principal here." Mrs. JE said.
"We're Omega's brothers. Thanks for meeting us." Hunter replied.
"I hear you're thinking of having Omega attend our school, but have a few questions."
"Yes."
"You see, Omega has suffered medical abuse. There are some topics that make her uncomfortable. We did not know this until a few months ago and we wish for Omega to properly heal mentally." Tech stated. "I have written down everything needed to help Omega and what topics to avoid."
"I see. Well, I will make sure these are implemented. Lucky for you, all of our teachers are equipped to handle children with trauma, disabilities, and more. Once Omega has completed her assessment, we can properly inform her teachers and she will be able to start school with her classmates. If at any time it becomes too much, we do have the capabilities to allow you to school Omega from home." Mrs. Je explained.
"Well, that's good to hear. The other schools refused to accommodate Omega." Hunter sighed.
"Yes, they normally do. They're run by outsiders who have no respect for abydonian forms of teaching. Here, we do. We feel all kids should learn at their own pace and be given the help needed to accomplish their education. We accommodate all children."
The next day, Omega took her assessment and was given the list of teachers and classes she would be taking.
"These are a lot of classes." Omega sighed. "Will I be able to handle it?"
"Course you will. You'll do just fine." Fives replied.
"But why aren't they all on the same level? And why do I get to choose 2 extra classes."
"Well, not every kid is good at the core subjects. Some need more time and help than others. Your four core subjects reflect that while the other 4 are because this is your first year. All kids your age are required to take gym class, and art. Music, and computer/ library." Echo explained.
"Why do I get to choose 2 extra classes?" Omega wondered.
Well, they want learning to be fun. So why not allow you to take some classes that you would enjoy."
"So, what classes are you gonna take?" Wrecker asked.
"What choices do you even have?" Crosshair wondered.
"Well, there's ABydonian culture, mechanics, homecare, gardening, first aid, astrology, government, and languages," Omega answered.
"What do you want to take?" Tech asked.
"Well, I do mechanics with you and astrology. I would like to learn about Abydonian culture. I'd like to learn either gardening or first aid."
"Perhaps you should wait to take first aid. At least till you can handle it better."
"Then I guess Abydonian culture and gardening."
A few weeks later, Omega started school and she quickly made friends. Her teachers were very patient and understanding. They always warned Omega if the next class could have some trigger topics and they made sure to be discreet.
One evening, Omega chatted away about school.
"In Abydonian culture, we learned about when the ABydonians were slaves to the Qua. A species of creatures that shapeshift into other species but not into Abydonians. So they enslaved the Abydonians." Omega explained.
"They were slaves for many centuries." Echo replied.
"892 years of enslavement to the Qua."
"Heh, at least you remember that much." Crosshair teased. Tech placed bowls of soup in front of everyone and then placed the bread on the table. Hunter took a sniff and covered his nose and groaned.
"Uh, who made dinner?" Hunter questioned.
"I did. This is a very nutritious soup. It has all the vitamins and minerals needed. Best of all, it's plant-based." Tech explained.
"Where's some meat?" Wrecker questioned.
"There is no meat. The soup takes its place. You have been eating too much meat."
"But the Abydonians eat meat with every meal."
"Yes, well, you're not Abydonian. Your body is not designed for that much meat."
Everyone ate a spoonful. Tech nodded and got up to get something while everyone but Echo gagged and downed their tea. Echo watched them and shook his head.
"That's the last time we let Tech cook," Hunter stated.
"It's not that bad." Echo replied.
"Echo, you can't taste anything," Fives stated.
"There's no way I'm gonna be able to keep this down." Crosshair sneered.
The others tried their best to stomach Tech's cooking, but it was obvious that they wouldn't be able to last long.
Omega walked into Crosshair and Hunter's room and saw Fives and Wrecker sitting on the floor while Hunter and Crosshair searched their room.
"The boys locked down the kitchen and Echo is taking a shower. We're trying to find our stashes of jerky." Hunter whispered before Omega said a thing.
"Found it." Crosshair sneered. He grabbed a few pieces and then tossed it to Hunter who handed out handfuls of jerky to the others. They all sat and ate their jerky in silence. Then Omega groaned.
"Ugh, I have a test tomorrow." Omega realized.
Omega passed her test the next day and she adjusted very well to school. Her relationships grew and thrived and her mental health and scars grew much better. Omega enjoyed school and loved learning and making friends.
