CHAPTER 5

Back in Shiver City, Peach and Luigi have reconvened with General Naranjo. He is pleased that Peach and Luigi have saved his region from Bowser's forces. He tells them that he'll accompany them to recruit the Yellow Toads to the Kakariko Village.

"Kakariko Village?" Peach asks, "That's in Hyrule, isn't it"?

"Affirmative" Says the General, "When the Red Toads took over, the Yellows were backstabbed by your father and banished from the Kingdom."

"That's going to make forming a new alliance with them rough, isn't it?" Luigi says worried.

"In a manner of speaking, yes." Naranjo replies. "The Yellow Toads are also known as the "Brothers of The Sun". Hailing the Sun as their God instead of any form of monarchy."

"That explains why Solar was using his Sun machine to melt the snow!" Peach exclaims! "So it looks like an attack from the Yellow Toads! Bowser and his forces must be trying to start another war between the Toads! Splitting them so they stay divided!"

"Excellent deduction!" Naranjo says. "So what say the three of us head out to the Yellow Toads and help us convince them to join our cause against Bowser."

"Alright! Let's go!"

Heading through the sewers of Shiver City, now cleared of Bowser's forces, the party discovers a warp pipe.

"This will lead us to Hyrule Field, hopefully close to Kakariko Village" Declares General Naranjo. "I've heard there's a major resistance movement to the Red Toads. We should find a way to get inside and contact them before sending the Red Toads over. We should probably only bring my Orange Toads"

"That's a good idea, General." Peach agrees. "Toads! Head towards the Mushroom Kingdom pipe and hold the castle while I'm gone!"

The Red Toads stumble over each as they break off from the group. Peach, Luigi, Naranjo, and the Orange Toad Army enter the Warp Pipe to Hyrule.

A warp pipe appears in Hyrule Field, the party exits from it. It takes some time getting all the Orange Toads out one by one.

"I still can't believe your father betrayed the Yellow Toads!" Luigi says in disbelief.

"I know Luigi, but I have to make amends. I need to. " Peach insists.

The General looks around with his binoculars and spots Kakariko village and the bridge leading to it in the distance.

"Target Sighted" Confirms the General.

"Hold on Peach!" Luigi says. "I think I see something!"

"Do you?"

Luigi points to the left of the village. A small group of Yellow Toads are walking away from the village and heading for the forest. They are accompanied by some Boos and...what appears to be...Mario?

"There's Mario!" Luigi declares.

"Hurry!" Peach shouts heading towards them.

"I'm coming Peach!" Luigi calls as he runs after Mario.

The Boos and "Mario" lead the Yellow Toads into the forest, being chased after by Peach, Luigi, and Naranjo.

"Stop right there!" Naranjo orders. "I command you to halt!"

The group halt, "Mario" and the Boos turn around to face them. "Brother! Princess!" Dark Mario says, pretending to be the real deal. "What are you two doing here?"

"Mario!" Peach says, tears in her eyes. "Is that really you? I thought I'd never see you again!"

"Peach, I'm so glad you made it safely here!"

Luigi suddenly stops and looks at the situation. "Hey bro...what are you doing with these Yellow Toads and these Boos?"

"These Boos are my bodyguards," Dark Mario responds. "They're very loyal to me. These Yellow Toads are my soldiers. They're going to join the revolution against Bowser."

"Don't listen to him!" Yells one of the Yellow Toads! "He's actually-" But his mouth is covered by one of the Boos who has turned invisible.

Dark Mario continues "I suggest you follow my orders. Our army is far more powerful than you can possibly imagine."

""Our" Army" Luigi asks. "What army are you talking about, bro?"

Dark Mario smirks. "You're not going to believe this, but I have an army of my own." He takes out a large piece of paper from his pocket and unfolds it. On it there is a crude crayon drawing of a group of Green Toads marching together in formation. "I have taken control of the Green Toads and am going to force these Yellow Toads to work with me!"

"He's lying!" Yells another Yellow Toad "Another army has betrayed The Brothers Of The Sun!"

"Quiet you!" Yells a Boo before smacking the Yellow Toad.

"Don't listen to him!" Peach exclaims, turning to Mario. "I know you're not Mario. You can't be! Mario would never allow a Toad to get hurt! You're just trying to trick us!"

"I don't care what you believe!" Dark Mario snaps. "I have my orders and I'm here to stop you from causing a Toad rebellion!"

Suddenly an arrow is fired at Dark Mario, just barely missing him. It was from a mysterious archer hidden in the trees. "Didn't think you would be able to hide in the woods without me noticing, did you monster?!" yells a female voice. The archer pulls off their hood revealing to be none other than-

"Link!" Yells Dark Mario angrily before grinning sinisterly. "How kind of you to join us for this occasion. You wouldn't happen to be looking for a rematch would you?"

"Not that it matters, but I've got a few extra friends with me this time!" Zelda shouts, revealing herself within the same tree.

"Well then! Looks like we'll have to settle things in a fair fight!"

Dark Mario claps his hands and the Boos form together into "Boolossus"! Link and Zelda drop down, joining the battle. Dark Mario then forms a giant sword out of shadows and swings it at Link, Zelda and Peach.

"Defend yourselves!" Dark Mario commands.

The three heroes use their respective weapons to defend themselves against his shadowy attacks.

Meanwhile Luigi is dealing with Boolossus. "You're pretty strong for an enemy of mine," Luigi remarks. "But you're not going anywhere yet."

Boom! Boom! Boom! Luigi pulls out his Poltergust 3000 and shoots ice balls at Boolossus, knocking it out of balance and causing it to collide with a tree. Popping it, causing Boos to flee everywhere.

"That's it! That's enough!" Luigi declares. "It's time for you to go!"

He freezes all the Boos and sucks them into his Poltergust.

"What are you doing!?" Dark Mario screams. "Kill them!"

"Sorry, it looks like your little buddies can't help you." Luigi states.

"How dare you defy me!" Dark Mario yells. "You may have taken my right hand man away from me, so I'm going to take something away from you!"

With the quickness of shadows, Dark Mario grabs Luigi and pulls him into a shadowy pit. Fleeing the battle. Won by our heroes, but at the cost of Luigi being kidnapped.
