Author's notes: I'm back with a new chapter. I watched the episode 4 and 5 of ice queendom. Well the show is doing well. Writing is relatively good though I have my criticisms but they are not too big. And because of it's success people are now criticizing the original show more. They are somewhat right. But current criticism is pretty toxic. Also since I don't know how slow I will write I decided to give this piece of advice in this chapter rather than the next ones. Summer is slowly ending and soon the studying will begin again. Some of you probably can be adults. But I have an advice for the lazy for all ages. To combat laziness just think a lot about your goal. Believe it took me a while to finally start this story. I was thinking a year about what if of many stories then one day idea of nms crossover came to my head. I didn't actually want to write but the more of I was thinking about the story the more I wanted to write and then I did. Just think long enough of about doing something then think about the details and when you want to do your goal do it. Willpower can be trained like a muscle. I hope you will do something more productive rather than just slowing down cosmic entropy by your laziness. While I am at the topic of writing I can say about how I write. The backbone of a chapter I can make in 2 or 3 days however I spend most time adding details and checking consistency. Also I got an answer for saitama 1155. I decided to not choose sci fi section since there are only two slots for genres and there isn't a third and these 2 genres fit better. Also all your other questions that you will post I will answer in the begging of the chapters since it is better than writing in pm constantly.
And here comes the story.
The duo is ever reaching colder climate and environment protection system is being less and less stressed. Now our duo studies a rock. To some ,out of context, it might sound too strange, but for the duo not. At this point it became a daily routine for them.
While Telamon is scanning, Traveler also studies in his own ways. He noticed that there is bigger signs of erosion and moisture.
Then Telamon reported the results.
The news that there is an erosion didn't surprise him at all. Then The news was that there probably was a rain about a month ago.
Traveler suspected that this planet could be not just baren rocks with some small life and these 2 types of creatures and now he is correct. Which means more complex life forms could exist here.
But Traveler knows that there are different kinds of rain. But the scan showed that the rain probably didn't contain toxic components or other dangerous for him elements.
Traveler sometimes dreams of someday to breathe freely air from atmosphere. That scan of atmosphere made that feeling a little stronger But as in that time he got the scan,he knows the brutal realities. Majority of the planets he visited didn't fit his biology and even 1 percent more oxygen could be fatal for him. But even if the formula is correct there is almost 100 percent chance to catch a disease. And die. And even if it wont kill or criple him, his bacteria could end the ecology.
He did know what is it to be outside of the suit though. He did take off in places he could like his ship and other places. But it's still not the true freedom.
But Traveler at least is happy that his suit is comfortable. The only issue is smell but it is bearable
He then continued to move towards north
As he was heading north the environment became more and more hospitable. And he noticed that the wind is stronger from north west direction. He did notice it a while ago but only now it is more noticeable. But it's still rocky and sandy
He did perfectly understand that mountains change direction of the wind so either new direction can be what he is looking for or not.
Then he asked himself: "Менять или не менять(Change or not to change)?"
As he was thinking he did notice something moving in the distance. He immediately aimed his pistol and took cover just in case.
The target was small and finally didn't have those colors of the previous creatures. It was even smaller than the first creature he met there.
It had one tail 2 claws and a lot of legs.
Telamon began scanning it.
And Telamon was able to get a perfect scan this time. And this creature was normal unlike the last ones. It appeared that the creature didn't notice them. But Traveler realizes that studying new creatures isn't top priority now. Only the black ones can be a priority. There are far greater priorities to do. But he still has a desire to learn new things After the creature disappeared out of sight Traveler decided to continue the original course and moved out.
After some time Traveler reached other place. It was much colder and environment protection system isn't that much used this time. In fact if he wouldn't t catch a disease he could walk without exosuit for some time.
Telamon meanwhile is always looking around. Then Telamon saw something in the west and zoomed in.
There was a sign of sorts ,probably made from an organic material, with something written on it and what appeared to be a an entrance to something. Telamon didn't understand what was written there. Telamon for majority of his life only knew the language of math and didn't care much to learn new languages. It is only in recent times he did learn something new. The letters looked similar to Travelers language but different.
Telamon notified Traveler.
Traveler then moved to the direction.
Traveler is interested in what Telamon found this time.
As he was walking he decided to look at this location from the distance with binoculars.
It was definitely not a natural formation as it appeared to be made by somebody: there was what he could guess could be a sign and entrance to something and on closer inspection there was also a road. to somewhere
He then decided to check on thermal scans.
He noted that there couldn't be much said on thermals.
He decided to wait for some time to check if someone appeared.
Traveler waited for 30 minutes and there was nothing particular interesting.
He then asked Telamon:"Что-то смог узнать(Did you manage to learn something)?"
To which Telamon shook it's scanner.
Traveler decided to move out towards there quietly as possible.
Traveler is now closer and than sees the sign with some sort of letters and what appeared to be an entrance to a mine. He closed in
He then saw that this is truly a mine because there are support structures and rails. There was also a road that leads somewhere from the mine. But Traveler and Telamon question who did make this mine, sign and the road.
They also question if this mine is active
Traveler was now keeping fingers on the trigger of the pistol.
First he decided to scan the cave then to look at the table in case if something was hiding there.
The scan showed that this mining operation was decently sized and there were some small life forms That definitely didn't make a mine and with none of the black white creatures in sight but he needed to go further to scan more
He then took a look at the sign.
The letters looked similar but at the same time different. Some letters were exact as in his language. This got him suspicious.
During his life he did notice that there a few similarities between his language and others but those were very few.
But here there are too many similarities and then he decided to take a look at the mine. The height had enough room for him with a decent amount of room being left for possible mining equipment. This means that at least that who made this mine has comparable height to himself and wrote in a similar language as him. He concluded that there are two variants: that the some race so happens to be similar to him in height and writing and the second might be that he found his race. The second option intrigued him a lot more.
He knows that he belongs to Travelers race but each Traveler can be so different that they can't be considered the same. It's more of a label to ease things. But he knows that if the second possibility is true then it would raise a lot of questions.
He then tried hard to understand what does the table say. He does have a translator program and it tries to translate the text but it could take a while. To him he could read it as: first part of the word couldn't be understood for exception for the last part which he recognizes as T. then then what appears to be a letter that represents sound r in his language then doble oh then something that he doesn't understand then other word m then unkown then what in his language represents sound p and then e then lower part of the sign spells like ah then looks to be b then Ah then P in his language then unknown then oh then p then e then unkown other word b then e then S in his language then ah then unknown then unknown then e and last First unknown then unknown then unknown then double m.
So everything sounds to Traveler like this: ?troo? m?pe Abap?ore? besa?e ?mm.
Traveler realizes that trying to understand this by himself now is a waste of time. He hopes that translator program will take care of it.
Then he looked at the cave. He decided to check this cave out. He switches from pistol to rifle because abandoned mine with these creatures not so far sighted around and a mine that doesn't have any activity screams trouble. And this time he switched to bolt caster. No electricity this time.
Traveler before going in decided to check the integrity of support structures. They appeared to be stable enough.
He commented:"Наедаюсь, что на нас все не обрушится(I hope that everything won't fall over us)."
Then he looked at his ammo counter. Currently there are 28 shots left.
Traveler said in head"Лучше иметь больше пулей(It s better to have more bullets)." And then he switched the magazine for a new one with 64 bullets.
And he decided to check if there are any of the creatures around behind him. For now, everything is safe.
And so, he goes in.
Of course, going in blindly is a bad idea. This is why he switched to night vision and constantly scans before moving out. He also realizes that he is at disadvantage here if there will be shooting. There is few room to fall back and that lives in sunlight not in the dark even night vision didn't fully eradicate the problem and the entire mine could fall under enough pressure.
Now Telamon does another scan. Traveler did give Telamon ability to scan by it's own will but Traveler still has the ability to use freely scanner.
Now new scan was coming. And it showed that there was larger space on the end of the way.
"Посмотрим что там(Let's see what's there)."He commented in his head
And it was pretty dark without night vision since sunlight doesn't reach here and there isn't any other form of the lighting as it appears. Traveler believes that there must be some materials ahead.
And then he reached the destination. What night vision showed is that it appears that miners left because everything was mined. There was no ore around as the scanner confirmed absolute silence only reinforced his theory
"Это тогда объясняет почему все так заброшенно(This explains why everything is so abandoned)."
But Traveler questions why there appears to be a lot of stuff left behind.
Then he was looking around and Telamon notified him that there is something on the right side. Currently no creatures in sight. Traveler then found what Telamon highlighted. It was a bunch of crystals varying in color. Traveler questions why did Telamon highlight them. Then the readings showed that the crystals were unknown.
"Теперь понятно(Now it's understandable)" noted the Traveler.
The scan showed that further study was needed and they are currently are designated anomaly. Traveler at this point wants a break from these kind of anomalies. Some part of him wants a permanent one.
He then decided first to collect a bunch of them into the nearby mining cart.
Then he decided to check around everything else.
He did see that there was more carts and rails and some small tools left behind. The tools got him interested. He picked a pickaxe and scanned it to check if there is something interesting. There was definitely some sort of metal industry on this planet because the pickaxe has metal, that didn't require a scanner to understand. Then the scan showed this pickaxe is probably relatively new and has some bacteria on it. The size indicated that it is probably meant for someone with decent body mass. He checked others. He concluded that at least this planet has a decent metal industry. He then found metallic tools which appeared to be functioning on some sort of energy. He concluded because he saw all the mechanical parts. But he didn't see any sort of batteries in there.
"Может сломаны(Maybe they are broken)" he guessed
Now he concludes that this society is more advanced. He also saw what appeared to be lights that must 've been powered by some form of energy.
He noticed that there are more words in this unknown language. Some he had guesses some he couldn't. In one case there appeared to be sign of lighting and there was word with! Sign. He guessed that it means to be careful with electricity.
As he was looking around Telamon detected multiple seismic readings. They were the same as the last ones. Telamon notified the Traveler.
"Аномалии приближаются из под земли(Anomalies closing in from the underground)"
Traveler received this and was now falling back from his position and ready to fire.
Then emerged his designated 5 kopatels and started roaring and preparing to attack.
But Traveler was not merciful this time and fired from boltcaster to their "heads"
He fired 5 shots. It got 3 of them. 2 shots missed
He then fired another 5 shots and it finished them off
The ammo indicator showed that there 54 shots left. He realizes he has plenty of ammo but he questions how much will be coming.
Then Telamon informed that more are coming. More specifically at least 15 incoming and possible more
Traveler knows he can take them down but if even more will come he will need to reload and while he would be doing that he would be exposed. And being thrown around and taken underground he doesn't want and decides to get back outside fast.
As he was running the creatures emerged. Traveler turned around to shoot 3 of them.
He shot 4 shots but it hit 2 of them.
He then shoots two more.
Now 48 shots remain.
He continued to run.
Telamon informed that now 4 of them are behind him.
He turned around and fired 8 shots eliminating them.
40 shots remain
Two more were coming from the entrance direction.
3 shots took care of them.
37 shots remain.
Telamon notices Traveler's adrenaline and sweating have increased.
Now 6 creatures were behind them.
Traveler turned around and quickly fired 9 shots and getting rid of them.
28 shots remain
He now sees the light on the end of the tunnel.
And he managed to get out of there.
But as he turned around he saw quite a company heading from the mine.
And then he rapidly fired at them.
And since they were so close one shot sometimes took more than one of them.
His breathing began to stabilize when Telamon informed that even more are coming from there.
He looked at his rifle and there wasn't any ammo
He knows he won't be able to reload in time and decides to use a plasma grenade. As creatures emerge from the mine he fired plasma grenade from the under barrel of the rifle.
The plasma grenade managed to take out them all in a flame.
Now only dark dust remained.
Traveler then immediately began reloading.
As he was finishing doing then even more creatures began emerging from there.
He reloaded in time and opened fire on dozens of them.
The bolts began taking care of them.
There was a lot of dark dust appearing but a few are left.
They were moving closer.
He did manage to shoot the last ones but.
One more larger than the rest remained and Traveler did manage to take it out but as the last action the creature managed to swing it's back part with all the might it could to hit Traveler's right leg.
Traveler barely stopped himself from a scream
Shields and armor protected but Traveler still felt noticeable pain.
Also his endurance and experience helped him.
Traveler waited for more but none appeared.
He decided to fall back from the mine and after 15 minutes of walking decided to sit on a nearby rock to rest. The hit wasn't dangerous but it will take time to recover.
Traveler learned a lot in this mine but he realizes that there are still those crystals left behind. He questions if those crystals could be a vytal part of their life.
He wants to study the crystals more but on the other hand he doesn't want to receive any more pain.
He now realizes why miners left this place. The local fauna isn't very friendly
"Уйти или сделать второй заход(Leave or make the second run)?" he thought to himself
He decided to get back after the leg will get better.
As he was recovering he was really glad that he installed quicker fire rate on the boltcaster.
"Надеюсь я достаточное количество из уничтожил чтобы спокойно пройти(I hope that I destroyed enough of them to to calmly walk through)." He hoped
After an hour he is ready to get that cart with crystals.
He moves into the mine and currently there are none of the creatures.
Then he sees the cart with crystals
He looks around if there are these creatures around. Currently there are none.
"Быстро сюда и обратно(Quickly here and back)" he told himself.
He then begins to get that cart to the surface.
As he was doing it the creatures reemerged.
"Прекрасно(Great)" he noted.
Traveler stopped rolling the cart took his rifle and was now firing. He was going back to put more ground between them. As he was firing One of these creatures hit the cart and one of crystals the red one flew from the cart and hit its breathern behind and this crystal started a fire.
Traveler saw a fire but didn't know the cause. But Telamon saw it and concluded that the red crystal if pressured enough can cause fire.
Traveler was shooting when everybody heard a roar and one creature emerged bigger than the rest. It had black and white colors and bones as everything else but it had green underbelly dangerous claws swords as it can be put and most interestingly it had a skull ,teeth and two red eyes and these creatures retreated with that big one.
Traveler was glad that they are gone but the "leader" was unsettling.
If that was leader. Traveler and Telamon also suppose that it could be a predator for the second type of the creatures.
Then Traveler asked Telamon if that roar effected him and Telamon at all to which Telamon shook it's scanner.
Then he asked about the roaring of the other two types. Too which Telamon also shook it's scanner.
Traveler hoped that Telamon is correct
He then decided to focus on the present. He decided to take the opportunity and get those crystals out.
Thankfully for the duo nothing else happened.
As the Traveler got the crystals to the surface he wonders about the crystals. He suspects that one of them caused a fire since there wasn't anything possible that could've caused that fire.
He asked Telamon:"Начал ли один из этих кристаллов огонь(Did one of those crystals start a fire)? Telamon nodded.
Then he went to the cart. He suspected that it was probably red that caused the fire since the fire was red.
He then asks Telamon"Был ли это красный(Was it red)?". To which telamon nodded
Traveler thinks how it got activated and came to a conclusion that with enough pressure the crystal could be activated.
He then took a red crystal placed it a distance away and decided to test with a rock. He threw and then fire appeared.
But Traveler is now interested in what other crystals can do.
He decided to choose a blue one.
Traveler knows now certainly that the red one activated when enough pressure was applied. So he decides to lay the crystal back at a decent distance and then throw rocks at it.
He threw a rock and then it hit the crystal. In it's place a lot of ice appeared. And of course, The ice already starts melting in this environment but it will take a while. Since the weather was much colder inside the mine Traveler suspects that is the reason it managed to survive there.
Then he chooses the brown one. This time a bunch of rocks appeared.
And then he chooses the green one. He wonders what is it. The first three could be guessed but this one is questionable. This is why he scanned more just in case to make sure it's not too explosive. The scan showed that it didn't contain much energy as it appeared. He then threw the rock at it and a bunch of wind was released. But the wind raised dust of the ground with some of it landing on him.
Traveler at this point is accustomed to all the dust.
Now Traveler is sure that this couldn't be food for those creatures in any way and that this material couldn't be mined by them since the tools didn't fit them.
Now a theory came about the tools with no batteries in his mind. He supposed that these crystals could be somehow refined and be used as batteries and as other things.
Traveler then decides what to do with those crystals. On one hand those miners could come back and this could ease their job but Traveler understands that the employer could be anyone ranging from genocidal maniac to someone who just does business.
On the other hand he thinks of taking them since they could be studied and be used but realizes that the downside is that these crystals are volatile and caring them would add extra weight.
In the end Traveler decides for now to leave them here. Other beings would need it more than him and if it won't be used than he could use them later.
But Traveler was unsettled about the last creature. It's face or skull to be more precise was closest to him in understanding. What's more is that if it's true then there appears to be a command structure for the second creatures which means that they are more dangerous.
Often times beings with advanced technology think that they can easily take down lesser being with their superior technology. While they do have higher chances of survival it doesn't mean that the primitives are hopeless. They can possess higher physical strength and can use this as an advantage and throw them off a cliff, run them over, and so on.
Traveler decides what next course of action would be. One of them being following the road which could lead to civilization or to stay away from it for the time being. There are lots of pros and cons to this decision
He comes to the conclusion that it should be thought over tomorrow as the sun is setting. He did find a form of shelter not far way before he was going into the mine and so decided to go sleep there.
As he got there before preparing to sleep he refiled the ammo. He took the mags and placed them on the left part of the pack where is the module that refills bullets from backpack
Traveler is so happy that he installed this technology.
After refill he took a look on the moon.
He did see it enough times at this point but still it looks beautiful in a way.
He said"Этот мир становится интереснее и интереснее(This world is getting more and more interesting)."
And with that he started to fall asleep
Author's notes So this time Traveler and Telamon met something normal that being a normal scorpion and some other insects and mining equipment. Know our duo met a Centaur and dust crystals. Also I checked and I'm pretty much the only active NMS fanfiction writer on fanfiction net. Also news regarding the story. I plan to have more than 100 chapters in this story. I know that can sound too ambitions but I want to make this story long. And considering my writing speed this can take a couple of years maybe. So you certainly will read this story for a long time. Excluding those who have a life. I hope that sanctions won't effect all of this. Also the reason I write slow is because games and their mods. In other news I want to talk about criticism. If there is one then that means you can improve but if there isn't then either you are good or terribly bad. I have my criticism about certain fanfictions and if you have them with different fics then speak them out. It could improve their writing. For those of you that don't know RWBY watch it first than reading fanfiction about it. But that's my recommendation and you may have other ways of learning new stories. Lastly as you see I come closer to 10k plan per chapter.
