I'M BACK!
I need to apologise for making everyone wait for a new chapter. I've been busy. I have finally reached my fourth year of university, so workload is increasing.
I hope this chapter is okay, I seemed to rush it as I wanted to publish something for everyone as soon as I could.
Enjoy x
Jace's pov
"Took you long enough," I mumbled as I slid into the passenger's seat of the rusted, old van.
Jerking into drive, Simon responded with a groan. "Yeah well, it's not every day you help someone break into the police station. I'm nervous okay? Give me a break."
I lay my eyes on the lights that blurred as the van drove down the street, towards where I would set out on our plan. "So do you have the codes?" Without looking, Simon dug his way through the department in-between our two seats before pulling out a piece of paper and handing it to me. I frowned, "Simon…There's only two set of codes here?"
"Correct," he responded, nervousness hinting in his voice. "The first one is to the security box that will unlock the door; and the second code, that is to turn off the alarm after you get in."
"You make it sound so easy," I sarcastically remarked as I shoved the piece of paper into my pocket.
Silence grew between us and remained until we reached our destination. Simon slowed, pulling onto the side of the road. I looked around to see the park and on the other side of the road I noted the huge buildings that held only a few lit windows. "Where are we?"
Simon slowly moved in his seat to look at me. "The police station is through the alleyway through those two buildings," he states as he pointed to the gloomy alleyway.
"Okay," I breathed, tugging my hood up.
Reaching for the door, I felt a hand touch my arm. I gave Simon a side glance. "Jace, do you really think this is a good idea? What if something bad happens? What if I've given you the wrong codes!"
I let out a low breathe. "Simon, I need to do this. You know I do."
"What I know is, you're way over your head. I don't even think you know what you're doing, like what if you go in there and find nothing? Better yet, what if you get caught? You'd definitely be able to help Clary then," he threw at me, as he leant back with his armed tightly crossed over his chest.
I growled. "I know what I'm doing," I huffed.
"Oh yeah, what he that then big boy?" Simon asked, egging me on.
Rolling my eyes, I grabbed onto Simons shirt and brought him so our noses were inches apart. "Maybe, just maybe I'm playing cops and robbers," I growled low.
"What does that mean, Jace? Are you saying you're the cop in this?" He questioned.
I smiled, pulling away from him before opening and sliding out of the door. "It means I'm waiting for them to catch me." With that I shut the door behind me, before moving quickly but silently across the pavement to the alleyway that lead to the back of the police station.
I knew what I was doing, I knew the danger that came along with it as well; but I can't help but follow through with my plan.
The fence that loomed in front of me stood a head or two above me, but it still seemed an easy enough jump for me to manage. Stepping slightly back, I bent down ready to lunge for the fence… Catching the top of it, I pulled myself up and over it with ease. Jumping to the ground, I silently made my way over to the station, hearing voices echo from out the front. Lucky for me, the part I needed to get into was at the back. Reaching the door, I quickly pulled the paper out of my pocket and typed in the code. A beep sounded, alerting me of my success. Opening the door slowly, I noted the pitch darkness that welcomed me. I was alone. Grinning, I entered, searching for the alarm. Hearing beeping, I soon tracked it along near the door and entered the code to deactivate the alarm. Letting out a small breath, I made my way along the rows of desks to a room off privately on its own. On the door it displayed 'Detective Starkweather'. Sliding through the opened door, I entered the spotless room. Not daring to use my phone light, I let the moon light be my guide. Careful not to mess up anything, I carefully looked through his drawers and books. I looked under the desks and drawers, like people did in movies, but it was no use, there was nothing that stood out. There was nothing to be found. Sitting back on his desk chair, I breathed in. I had been searching for a good ten or so minutes but there was nothing. Closing my eyes for a short moment, I reopened them to let them fall on a photo that lay in a frame on his desk. It looked like an old photo, one that had been stained with spilt coffee. Picking it up, I noted two adults which I assumed was the parents, and then two boys. One obviously Starkweather. I looked closely at the second boy…
"I swear I heard something back here before," a voice mumbled as footsteps entered the main office area.
'Shit' I thought. Looking around, I placed the photo where I had found it and looked out of the window to see if it was an easy escape. Thankfully it was. Sliding it quietly up, I jumped out and ran, but not before closing the window after me.
Running back to the fence, I climbed quickly over it until I planted my feet on the ground on the other side. I took a deep breathe in, feeling disappointed with my outcome…
"Jace!"
Startled, I spun around to see a wide eyed Simon sprinting towards me. Reaching me, he turned back to the entrance of the alleyway. "What's wrong?" I asked quietly, looking in the same direction as he was.
"Uh..uh…I think we were followed…" Simon stumbled on his words.
"By who?" I asked, stepping closer to the entrance of the alleyway.
"He came out of nowhere and just stood right in front of my van, Jace. So I couldn't move," Simon said grabbing me. "Look I don't know what Raphael looks like, but I think it was him. He just stood there tapping on the bonnet of the van with this…smile on his face."
A chill went down my spine. I frowned at Simon before slowly reaching the entrance of the alleyway, staying close to the wall. Peeking out, I scanned the area before me and stopped when my eyes locked on a figure across the road at the entrance to the park. Locking eyes with the dark, deadly eyes I stepped out of the alleyway and stood my ground, egging him on. A smile grew on his face as he tilted his head to the side. Holding each arm out to the side of him, he tried enticing me forward. Narrowing my eyes, I stayed put while crossing my arms across my chest.
Laughing, Raphael turned his back to me. Glancing back at me, his lips lifted to one corner in a challenging smirk. "Make sure you stay away from Red tonight, I think it's my turn with her," he called at me before disappearing into the darkness of the park.
Anger rushed through my blood and bones, and before I knew it I was running towards the darkness of the park. "Jace, no!" Simon called from behind me, "this is what he wants!" Ignoring Simon, all I knew was I wanted to get my hands on Raphael.
The night played tricks on my eyes as it casted shadows around me as I grew deeper into the abandoned park. The only sound I could hear was the crunch of my own feet hitting the hard ground beneath my feet. I stopped suddenly, hearing the same crunch growing closer and closer before… "Jace… We need to go," Simon urged growing closer to me.
"Yes Jace, we need to go," a voice mocked as a figure came out of the shadows.
Turning sharply towards the voice, Raphael came into vision; his smirk growing with each step. "You know, you should have really listened to this fella…he could have lead you out of a dangerous position," Raphael challenged.
"I'm not scared of you Raphael," I said firmly, feeling Simon tense behind me. To be fair, my whole body was tense too. I knew the situation we were in was bad, but I couldn't get myself to leave. Stubbornness and determination made me stay put.
"Oh goodie, it will make tonight be all the more enjoyable," Raphael grinned, looking back behind him. Slowly, but surely three figures emerged from within the shadows.
Stepping back slowly, I felt Simon move along with me. "So your plan was to have three against one? How big of you," I mocked, stepping back again. With each step I made, the figures moved closer. "Simon, go," I whispered back at him.
"Are you crazy? I can't leave you alone now," Simon hissed.
Raphael laughed. "So you're blondies side guy?" Raphael walked up so he was face to face with Simon. I moved closer to Simon as he stayed silent. "Well sadly for you, this little gathering doesn't include you." Tilting his head back, he nodded at one of the figures as he advanced.
Wide eyed, I pushed Simon back. "Go!" I growled at him. Before Simon could make up his mind, more crunches sounded from behind us. Spinning around two more figures emerged, alcohol and smoke filling the air around them. They started to advance.
"You're mine," Raphael whispered mockingly into my ear from behind.
Clinching my fists, rage filled me as I quickly spun around and drew back my arm. Firing it straight, my fist hit Raphael square in the chin knocking him off his stance and caused him topple over. Following him, I jumped on him pulling by fist back and hitting him again, but before I could get another hit in, I was pulled forcefully off him, my arms being painfully held back by two of the figure. The pain was the least of my problem.
"Jace!" Simon yelled, unsureness in his voice.
My eyes stayed on Raphael as he stood up, wiping the blood that was now coming out of his nose. Clicking his fingers at one of the figures, he pointed at Simon. I struggled against my hold, not being able to get a kick or a head-butt in. Simon backed up before hitting a tree. As the figure grew closer to him, he threw a punch but the figure dodged it easily enough before bringing his fist back and connecting with the side of Simons head, throwing him to the ground. The hit to his head seem to knock him out, which brought me slight hope that no more harm would come to him.
Smirking, Raphael looked back at me. "Well now that he's not an issue anymore," he whispered, pulling something that gleamed in the night light out of his pocket and bringing a sharp point to my cheek. "Let the fun begin."
Before I knew it, Raphael was gone and a fist came in contact with my face.
So what did you think? Worth the wait? What do you think will happen to Jace?
Let me know with a review :)
