Hiccup was flying around Grimmel, waiting for the perfect moment to strike in order to do a final blow. Fortunately, he was getting rather riled up, starting making mistakes.
'When he gets injured, he has to put himself back together again, that's when I'll have an opening,' said Hiccup. 'I'll hit him with all the power I have, and he'll be knocked out before you can recover.'
Hiccup then launched himself at Grimmel. "If I can't say, Ariel, one small child who is relying on me to help her, then how can I call myself a hero that saves everybody?"
Grimmel just repaired the damage done to him when he finally noticed Hiccup had appeared directly in front of him. Before he had a chance to react Hiccup totem several pummelling blows that destroyed his body.
"That's who I'm going to be!" Hiccup roared punching Grimmel in the face so hard that his mask fell off.
Hiccup then quickly grabbed a friend of his gigantic body and then tossed him down straight towards the hole in the ground.
Under the surface, Chrono felt the entire ground shake.
"Still fighting," he said, looking troubled. 'It can't be, there's no way you're losing is there? Grim, I watched you ever since you were young, you've always put a tremendous amount of effort into preserving the dignity of this organisation. To bring honour and glory to the mafia, if you fail today then I'll take the finished drug along with the sermon and see your plan through.' He then looked down at Trapster and drew out his knife. 'For Dragon Killer and for you Grim.'
He was then about to plunge the knife right down on Trapster when suddenly something sharp uses hand causing him to drop the knife. His eyes turned, and he found Sprite and Suneater standing there, supporting Vemillion on their shoulders. Suneater had transformed his hand into a swordfish and use the blade in order to pierce his arm.
"Looks like we got here just in time," said Sprite.
"You're Chrono, right?" said Suneater. "I know how your power works, so don't even try to use it on us."
Two policemen then immediately entered, aiming their guns at Chrono.
"Take him," Suneater ordered.
"Don't move! Resistance is useless!"
"Sprite! Suneater!" Windshear yelled as she rushed over to them and looked at Vemillion. "Thank goodness, I'm glad he's okay."
"It's good to see you too, Windshear," Sprite smiled.
"What's happening?" Suneater asked, noting the commotion above them.
"Night Fury is fighting," she said.
Hiccup had just tossed Grimmel's body right down on the ground and had just landed himself. It looked as if Grimmel was out for the count, but he was exhausted.
"Ariel, are you okay?" Hiccup asked.
He then suddenly put a massive surge of pain throughout his entire body, and he realised that Ariel power had grown too powerful.
'Ariel was getting stronger,' Hiccup winced. 'If she keeps this up…' He then fell to his knees as he felt his body was being torn apart.
Grimmel wasn't entirely out cold as he appeared to be. Currently, he was thinking back to when he was a boy.
Both he and the boss walking down a street and he had a bandage over his face from a little scuffle he had with some other kids.
"I see," said the boss. "So you got into a fight because someone called us villains?" He then looked down at Grimmel. "The Mafia cannot retaliate against civilians." He then rubbed his head. "What you did was wrong, though I know you are trying to protect our honour. I appreciate that, Grimmel."
Grimmel had regained consciousness and was trying one last chance to get Ariel, but when his giant hand grasped Hiccup and Ariel, her powers began to affect him. Soon his entire body began to break up, his wounds were healed, and Drain was tossed into the air.
Valkyrie quickly moved in and put him in a hand lock and pinned him to the ground.
Scarlet then crawled out of the hole. "What's the situation?"
"I got Nighteye to a safe place, we all had civilians to evacuate the area," said Valkyrie as Sprite, Windshear and Suneater climbed out of the hole as well carrying Trapster and Vemillion.
"Hiccup was fighting Grimmel, but something seems are," she said looking towards Hiccup and Ariel.
Arial was completely frantic as her powers run wild. 'No, make it stop! He's going to die!' The hero began to fill with all the abuse Grimmel subjected to in order to keep her under his control. 'Don't die! Please!'
Sprite and the others felt completely helpless, they had no idea what to do. Fortunately, Trapster was still conscious, and he knew exactly what to do. Sprite looked at him and got the idea and quickly pointed his head towards the two of them.
'I'm sorry Hiccup,' he said and activated his powers.
'I don't want this!' Ariel panicked.
Then suddenly her powers disappeared, much to her relief and she fell on top of Hiccup, who was exhausted.
Astrid sighed with relief. "It's over."
"Thank goodness," said Suneater.
"We best get these villains locked up and get the wounded to the nearest hospital," said Sprite.
They did exactly that, and Scarlet quickly took charge as she was the only senior hero on the scene.
"We have a lot of injured, we need ambulances quickly!" she ordered. "Check to make sure that we didn't miss any victims! The League of Villains may still be nearby, search for them!"
"Yes, ma'am!"
Both Turid and Twice decided to leave without anyone noticing, knowing there was no way they could get to Ariel now.
Centipede made his way through the base in order to hunt down any villains that might escape or any heroes injured. They quickly found Fat Gum and Red Riot and quickly took both Wrath and Shield into custody.
The police managed to locate the other Eight Bullets and took them into custody along with the others. They also managed to locate the boss, who was in a coma and strapped to light support.
They also began taking the injured to the nearest hospital, including Rock Lock and Vemillion. Red Riot managed to regain consciousness as he was taken to the nearest and smiled at his classmates, and Fat Gum looked down at him.
Hiccup handed Ariel to the police and the medics. "She got a fever after she passed out."
"She's safe, he just needs a hospital," said the Commissioner. "You to kid."
"Yes, sir," Hiccup nodded.
"His pulse is dropping," said a medic. "Hurry!"
Hiccup turned and saw some medics wheeling Nighteye to an ambulance.
"Sir!" Hiccup yelled rushing over to him. The medics tried to stop him, but the Commissioner stopped them. "Can you hear me? There's something I've been meaning to tell you."
"Hiccup," said Nighteye weakly. 'This is a different outcome than the one I foresaw, I don't understand why things have changed. But somehow he made my wish into a reality.'
He then looked at Hiccup. "Hiccup… you twisted the future. You did the impossible."
"Sir, about my dad he said that he'll live. He told me that he couldn't face, but you have to see him again. I know he wants that! So you have to pull through!"
"We're in a hurry, please stay back," said a medic.
Hiccup then watched as the carried Nighteye into an ambulance and watched as it drove off.
Scarlet then approached him. "Hiccup, many people were hurt today, so this really isn't time to celebrate. But… thanks for all you did. You're as much of a hero as your parents."
'With that, the battle to save a single girl finally came to an end.'
The entire operation took about 45 minutes, but it failed as if it had gone on longer.
The police were taking Grimmel to the newest hospital under very heavy escort.
"We're taking 11 members of Dragon Killer to Detroit Villain Hospital, they have all serious injuries," said a medic radioing ahead. "Their personal things have been confiscated and in addition to the bullets that we were told about we also found previously unreported capsules."
The policemen in the head car and saw a truck ahead of them and someone appeared to be standing on top of it.
"What's that?"
The backdoors then open slowly.
"The point of Maces and Talons is to outmanoeuvre your foe," said Krogan.
"It's not that simple," said Diablo.
"Indeed they're here just as you said," said Compress talking into his mobile. "This was the fastest route to the Mafia headquarters to the nearest villain hospital. This stage is now set, thanks for letting us know. You're so efficient Turid, you deserve a round of applause."
"Gruffnut was the one that reminds me to call," said Turid with a dreamy look. "I got a little distracted watching Hiccup. Sorry, we're not there, so you have to get your hands dirty."
"Just the one hand, my dear."
Turid laughed. "We couldn't get the girl who was the centre of their plan, but we're pretty sure that you'll have no problem intercepting the finished product. We also watched the cops as they loaded everybody up, and I didn't see them take anything. Even if you don't give what we're after, I bet you still want to say hi right?"
The police finally realised who was right in front of them.
"Oh crap, that's Krogan from the League of Villains!"
"Hey, lizard stop weaving!" Diablo yelled. "I get motion sick!"
"Don't call me lizard, the name is Spinner!" Spinner snapped.
"Shut up and focus on driving!"
"What would Flightmare say about this?" Spinner muttered. "Is attacking the police in line with his desires for a true hero society? I'm not so sure that he'll approve."
Krogan didn't care a whit about Flightmare or his desires, but it wasn't until Spinner that. "It is necessary sacrifice Spinner. I'm counting on you."
"Let's go," said Diablo as he raised his hand.
He then unleashed a powerful burst of flames at the armoured truck, but the leading police car shielded it. Also, the flames did appear to be getting anywhere close to the car.
"What's this?" said Diablo and ceased his frames.
When the flames dispersed, there was a huge blanket of sand protecting the car, and when it was dispelled, they saw a man leaning outside the door.
"The League of Villains, thugs with a grudge against this world," said Sandman.
Krogan groaned. "Of course, they sent a hero with them. What a pain. Spinner slow down!"
Spinner hit down on the brakes slowing the truck and Krogan jumped down onto the police car.
"Not so fast!" Sandman yelled and quickly extended his hand, which turned into sand and grasped Krogan. "You might be able to disintegrate whatever you touch, but that won't work against sand."
"Yeah, you got a point," said Krogan.
"He's getting pretty famous," said Diablo.
"Krogan is only a misdirection, a little sleight of hand if you will," said Compress having a marble.
He then tossed the marble on the road, and when it was directly under the police car, a huge boulder appeared directly beneath it. The police car was then hurled upwards and towards the armoured truck.
"What is the police car flies through the air, no trickery or wires involved," said Compress as he and Diablo jumped off the truck.
Krogan was now free from Sandman and landed on the armoured truck, he then quickly disintegrated the glass and grabbed hold the steering wheel. The moment he did, he disintegrated it, and the armoured truck rolled off the load.
Sandman had managed to rescue the policeman, and they were rolling across the road.
"Are you all right?" he said, looking at the policeman, who was out cold.
"How predictable, heroes always prioritise innocent lives," said Diablo who was standing directly behind him with flames covering his hands.
"We've been finding burnt corpses all over the city," said Sandman as he placed the policeman down. "That you're doing, isn't it?"
"So the boss isn't the only one people talk about, that's nice to hear."
"Have you ever thought about the families of those you murdered in cold blood!"
Sandman then quickly turned and formed a beast made of sand and had it attack Diablo. Diablo merely raised his hand and burned through the sand, forcing Sandman to greet a shield to protect himself. Then suddenly Compress compressed his body, and the marble fell down next the policeman.
"That got pretty intense, but sand doesn't burn does it," said Compress.
"I'm pretty sure that he can only turn his top half into sand, so he's probably dead," said Diablo.
Krogan then removed Grimmel's containment cells on the armoured truck and laid it down on the road.
"Tell me again who the next leader is going to be?" Krogan smirked.
Grimmel just looked at him. "Did you come to kill me?"
"No, I thought of something you would hate even more than that," said Krogan smiling viciously. "I hate you truly, you're too full of yourself."
Compress then approached Grimmel and compressed a portion of his right arm. "For the arm."
Krogan then pulled out the boxes containing the bullets. "Two little boxes, which one holds the finished product? I'll just take both."
Grimmel's eyes opened in horror. "That's mine."
Krogan looked down at him as if he were some sort of cockroach. "You know what I think, Grimmel. Someone so obsessed with the erasing metapowers shouldn't have one of their own." He then grasped Grimmel's left forearm as it began to disintegrate. "Don't you agree?"
Grimmel's eyes widened, and terror as the disintegration began to continue up his arm.
"If we don't cut that off your whole body will turn to dust," said Grimmel and then sliced off his arm.
Grimmel was now completely armless and says his powers only work if he touched something he was now completely powerless.
"You're now completely powerless, an ordinary loser and all the fruit of your labour belong to me. Now you don't even have a thumb to suck on! You're doomed to watch from the sidelines as your dream falls apart."
Grimmel was now having a mental breakdown, without his powers and with Grimmel taking the final product, he could no longer honour the old man's desires. His dreams of bringing the Mafia out of the brink of extinction had crumbled just like his left arm.
Spinner then beeps the horn. "Backups coming, we've got a go!"
Krogan and the others then made their way towards the truck, leaving behind a broken Krogan.
"Next it's our turn," said Krogan as Grimmel screams filled the air.
'Drain's lifeforce stealing power brought down more than half the heroes and police are assembled outside for the fight of the Dragon Killer headquarters. Those who remain unharmed joined the local heroes to survey the damage done to the area.'
Surge was flying overhead observing the damage which was surprisingly minimal.
"All the dismantling that Grimmel did level four buildings," said a hero. "Casualties were surprisingly low, with only three people reporting injuries, all of which were minor. This is a weekday morning in a residential area, but that's still pretty miraculous."
"It's no miracle," said Surge landing on the ground. "It would have been way worse without Night Fury."
The heroes looked at her, confused.
"Night Fury?"
"I was wiped out, but I saw the fight," Surge continued. "After he sent the giant Grimmel flying, he made sure to slam him back down near that big hole. He fought strategically to minimise the damage, and that's tough when the bill and it's so big."
"Also most of the fighting took place in the air," Sprite added as he joined them. "That's Hiccup, always doing the unexpected."
'Meanwhile, those that had been injured during the fight were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.'
Hiccup was currently being examined by a doctor.
"I did an extensive examination, but I don't see anything out of the ordinary," said the doctor.
"That's good to hear, thanks a lot. But what about everyone else?"
"I can fill you in Hiccup," said Eret as he entered.
Hiccup looked at him, relieved. "You're okay?"
"Just needed some stitches, now come with me."
Hiccup attached his armour back onto his body in the two of them began making their way down the corridor.
"Sorry I can be with you at the end when it counted," said Eret apologetically.
"It's all right," Hiccup assured him. "But tell me, how are all the others?"
"Dogssbreath is covered with bruises and lacerations from head to toe, but he'll live. Asmund cracked a bone in his face, and he has some other minor injuries, but none of them should leave a scar. Fat Gum has a few broken bones too, but he seems mostly fine otherwise. Luckily the blade that stabbed Rock Lock didn't hit any vital organs, so he should make a full recovery."
"That's a relief," said Hiccup and looked at Eret. "Uh, sir, what about Ariel?"
"Still be feverish and sleeping fitfully, she is being quarantined for now."
"Quarantined? Really? So does that mean I won't be able to see her?"
"You know, they made that call based on your description of what happened back there. She got a dangerous power and no control over it if something provokes her enough to activated again I'm the only one who can stop her. You are only able to touch it because you kept on destroying your body faster than she can rewind, right?"
"Yeah," Hiccup nodded as they entered an elevator.
"There are exactly a lot of people who can pull that off and even if they were who's to say how powerful she really is. We have no idea what her upper limit are."
"You know what you mean," said Hiccup remembering what happened to him after the battle. "If you hadn't been there to make her stop I'm not sure what would have happened."
"Teaching her control will be extremely hard, especially since a power seems to only work on people," said Eret as they exit the elevator. "When you train your live subjects, the dangers exponentially greater. Her emotional state will be affected too, with so many unknowns, it makes sense to keep her quarantined, for her sake as well as ours."
"I am resisting the medical staff in evaluating her powers," said Toothless. "Being an artificial intelligence, I conceive you with her without any kind of risk. That said the abuse that she suffered from Grimmel has left a deep scar in her heart will take some doing to bring her out shell."
"In other words, we can't depend on the girl or her power right now," said Eret as they stopped in front of an operation room.
Hiccup looked at him, confused. "Come again?"
"All we can do is accept it," said Eret as the doors opened. "Now come on, some others have joined us."
Hiccup then saw standing in front of them was his father, Centipede, Bubble Girl and Recovery Girl.
"Dad? And you're here as well Recovery Girl?" Hiccup blinked as he entered. "But why?"
"I asked Skullcrusher to come," said Bubble Girl as tears flowed down her cheek. "Because Sir… Sir always admired him so much."
"Lily," said Centipede handing her a handkerchief.
"There's nothing more we can do," said the doctor. "To be honest, it's a miracle he survived this long."
"My healing can't help either, he is too far gone for me to say," said Recovery Girl sadly.
Hiccup just stared as he realised what Eret had meant just outside, the only one who could save him was probably Ariel. The problem was she was still feverish, and even if she weren't, she had no control over how it's to help.
"I'm sorry, but you should prepare yourselves. I don't think he'll live to see tomorrow," said the doctor.
In allowed all them to enter and they found Nighteye strapped a life-support machine. There were tons of wires in a massive hole in his chest, and it really was hard to believe he could survive such a serious wound.
"I'm so sorry," said Stoick looking down at his former sidekick.
Nighteye opened his eyes and looked at him. "Is that you, Skullcrusher? You feel like talking to me now that I'm on my deathbed."
"I don't know what to say, I was wrong. I pushed you away and now."
"Nighteye!" said Hiccup pushing his bed. "Hang in there! Please, you have to live!"
Nighteye continued to look at Stoick. "I've never heard you sound so penitent before Skullcrusher. But I didn't resent you for what happened between us. I mean that I ever wanted was for you to be happy. And if you've decided to fight fate then I—"
"You should be fighting it too," said Stoick. "Please, give me a chance to make up what I've done!"
"There's nothing to make up for, I wanted to change the future to keep you from being killed. I looked for ways to alter the fact that I've seen. I tried, but there was nothing I could do, and then today your son succeeded where I failed.
"I believe it might have something to do with the energy contained in thoughts, the power of a vision so strong that it leads no room for doubt and strives towards the desired future. It wasn't just Hiccup, everyone there truly believed that what they were fighting for could come to pass. Maybe what we saw today was the result of that energy converging on Hiccup and being released. You've changed my thinking, you've shown me the future isn't set in stone, and that's enough for me. I only have one regret left."
It was then that Macario bust in bandages over his arms in a caste over his left leg.
"Sir!" he cried.
"Marcario?" Hiccup stared.
Marcario limped towards the bed. "Don't give up! Please, just keep fighting! Don't die on me!"
Nighteye looked at him. "Marcario, I failed you. This is my fault if only I had been there…"
"Don't say that!" Marcario yelled. "You were always there, teaching me and showing me how to be strong! Everything that I am now is thanks to you, don't you see? I'm not ready, please don't leave me!"
Nighteye looked at him as he cried over his bed. 'Marcario, forgive me. In the beginning, I only love you as a potential successor for Skullcrusher. But you follow me, you believed in me, and before I knew it, you became my pride and joy. One last time, let me see.'
He then activated his powers and looked towards Marcario's future and touched his face.
"You'll be okay," he smiled. "You're going to become the finest hero the world has ever seen, that is one part of the future that shouldn't be changed. Work hard… and be sure to smile." Nighteye looked at Skullcrusher. "After all, without joy and laughter to balance the sorrow, this world cannot hope to have a bright future."
With that, he took his final breath and everyone could hear that his heart had flatlined, but regardless she still had a smile on his face.
