Snotlout and the others began to change into their hero costumes and then started to make their way to the testing area.
"Hey, Ranger what kind of food you like?" Gunnar asked as the two of them walked down the corridor.
"Cold," said Ranger without expressing any kind of motion.
"Man, I like my food, nice and hot."
Ranger sighed. "We're very different."
"No way, I feel like we've gotten closer."
"I've told you this before, you don't have to try and force us to be friends."
Snotlout rolled his eyes. "That guy is ridiculous."
Eventually, all of them made their way to the area where they came face-to-face with Ness.
"We rented out this spotted centre in order for you through some specialised training," Ness explained he then gave them all a sinister smile. "For those you who do not know I am Ness and today's going to be fun."
The students were rather uneasy with that announcement.
"Oh, one more thing before we begin," said Ness. "Up until now we've had 10 people in this remedial training class, but starting today, we will have eleven."
Stoick and the others finally arrived at the stands.
"Let's snag some seeds upfront, get a better view," said Loudspeaker.
"You know that there's only a handful of us observing," Iceberg reminded him.
"And I think you would be smart if we stayed in the back," Stoick added. "We shouldn't distract them."
Hellfire, on the other hand, had other ideas. "Snotlout! You never should have failed the initial examiner first place! Show these weakly that you're on a completely different league!"
The students immediately looked up and saw them.
"Wait, no way?"
"It's Hellfire the number two hero, wait… he's the number one hero now."
"Seriously? That kind of random?"
Gunnar narrowed his eyes. "Why's he?"
He hadn't forgotten when he asked for Hellfire's autograph, and he shoved them to one side saying that he was in the way. The look that he gave himself and his very core, and it certainly wasn't the look of a hero.
"Wait a minute, look or standing next to him!" someone said.
"You guys see this?"
"Wow, Skullcrusher!"
"So much for keeping a low profile," Stoick sighed.
"What did you expect with Hellfire?" said Iceberg rolling his eyes. "Strategy has never been his strong suit."
"They came to watch us?"
"So cool!"
"This is so nuts."
"Well, he is ahead of security from Berk Academy right now."
"If everyone could just calm down," said Ness. "I wasn't quite finished." He then gestured to Cammie. "This girl will be joining us from now on."
"Second year Meathead Academy, the name is Cammie hi everyone," she smiled.
"Right, so like the rest of you, she made it to the second exam, and she did well enough to take part in this supplemental class. But some foggy memories leading up to the first test made it difficult to place here, that's why she hasn't participated until now."
"They said tots to making an exception for me," she smiled excitedly. "Which is wicked cool, yo. So any whos let's keep it fresh."
All the students just stared at her confused as none of them understood a single word she said.
Asmund was sitting there with his teacher looking down from the stands.
"Cammie's idiocy has no limits," he grunted.
"Let's just call her upbeat," said his teacher.
"Just think about it, her flighty personality made her the perfect target. She can even understand that something had gone wrong."
'I failed the test?' she frowned when they told her. 'I don't even remember taking a test, and you're saying I slept four whole days? Oh my gosh, so embarrassing.'
"People did report that she was speaking and acting in an uncharacteristic way and we found anaesthetics in her blood too," said his teacher. "But the reports from the Mafia raid what really put things in perspective. I can't believe that someone impersonated her."
"The League of Villains," said Asmund. "To think I did notice my classmate was replaced. I'm nothing but a pathetic fool."
"Well, it's not like the heroes or police realise what was going on either. We need a new symbol of peace before things get even more dangerous."
Down in the arena, Ness opened up his laptop.
"Right then, let's bring in your instructor," he said. The door opens and then stepping through the doorway was Black Orca. "Black Orca."
"So I got even more disappointments today," he said. "What a shame you must feel standing before me, given how easy the exam was!"
All of them and immediately stood up straight and stood to attention.
"About time he showed," said Asmund. "Those failures were looking a little too relaxed."
His teacher looked at him. 'Did he forget that he failed the first exam or is he just pretending it didn't happen.'
"There's something I realised after observing your training so far," said Black Orca looking at them like a drill instructor. "There's nothing heroic about any of you! Your bottom feeders, nothing but rotten fish turds!"
"Sir, yes, sir!"
"I can't hear you!"
"Sir, yes, sir!"
"Damn, he's scary," said Loudspeaker.
"He was a drill sergeant in the army," said Stoick.
Black Orca then turned to Snotlout. "Especially you! Do you want to be a hero?"
"First of all another fish turd," said Snotlout.
"Wrong!" He then turned Ranger. "How can a pile of excrement help humanity prosper!"
"Technically fertiliser is integral to—"
"Wrong!" He then turned to Gunnar. "Do you expect to be brave, just because you have powerful attacks!"
"Sir, yes, sir!"
"Wrong!"
Cammie just looked down at the three and tried to remain as calm as possible.
Black Orca then addressed all three of them. "I'm well aware that the Fru you have impressive combat abilities, but that's all you have. Your behaviour is unacceptable, you're disrespectful to those that I need of rescuing and ignore your enemies to compete with one another. Today we will put you through a special trial, it's time for you to start training a new muscle. The one that beats in your chest, if you hold on hand to someone in trouble will they take it? Not as you are now, it's fine to have fangs, but when a life is on the line, you must have trust."
The door across the arena then slowly opened.
"You need a special connection with the person you're trying to rescue. Remember that as you train today," said Black Orca. "Now need your opponents! Through this life-and-death battle show that you can come to an understanding with them! That's the hurdle you face!"
Snotlout, Ranger and Gunnar poised themselves for battle not knowing what to expect behind those doors. Then suddenly running out of the doors were toddlers and they were rather rambunctious.
"Lucky heroes!"
Snotlout, Ranger and Gunnar were a little crestfallen discovering who their opponents were as none of them had any experience when it came to children. The toddlers were rather loud and obnoxious as their teacher desperately tried to calm them down.
"Calm down, no need to run," he said.
A few of the children then began picking on Snotlout, laughing at him and punching him with their tiny fists.
"Please children, I need you to try this and behave!" the teacher yelled frantically.
"These kids are from local elementary school," Black Orca explained then look towards the teacher. "Don't worry, we'll take responsibility for your students now."
"Thank you for your help," he said, looking relieved.
Snotlout's eyes widened in horror. "We're what?"
Then one of the kids ran off crying.
"Hey, look this mean guy made Zack cry."
"Who do you think you are, Bombman?"
"Suck it up, brat," Snotlout grunted.
"So you're one of those," said a sneering voice. Snotlout turned towards a kid that was leaning against the wall with a snobby look on his face. "Your grown-up who thinks you can get your way by yelling. By not letting anyone else get a word in edgewise. Well, we're not impressed by that."
Snotlout narrowed his eyes. "Who the hell is this punk?"
Ranger appeared to be having some kind of wrestling match with the children and Gunnar was trying to hold back the urge to blow the kids away as they punched.
"You jerk, you're dumb!"
"I'm stronger then you are loser!"
Gunnar just looked towards the stands directly at Hellfire. 'I won't turn into him.'
"Hey, don't you ignore me!"
"Yeah, down here!"
"Oh, shoot, I got distracted," said Gunnar as they punched him.
Cammie just stood there looking at Black Orca. "Uh, so explain to me again why am part of this group?"
"We didn't get a chance to see you in action at the exam, also, to be honest, you would seem as if you would be very good this," he explained.
"Hey, wow, that's so unfair," she said and pulled a nearby child towards her. "There you see. I get along super with kids." Then suddenly she felt someone pinching her on the butt. "Ow!"
She turned ahead and saw one of the little girls pinching her energy and joined up with two others.
"That girl is trying to do Bark."
"I think the best thing to do is ignore her."
'Didn't know haters came this young,' she blanked.
"I'm sorry for being such a burden," said the teacher looking at Black Orca helplessly. "My classes filled with problem children, and no matter what I do, they refuse to listen. And already exasperating your young heroes."
"Please don't worry, ma'am," said Black Orca.
"Are you sure?" she said.
"By days end, I believe my trainees will change your students." He then turned and looked at Snotlout and the others. "The four of you will work together, you must win the hearts of these unruly youngsters."
"What do we look like nannies?" Snotlout moaned.
"Settle down!" Black Orca snapped. "The rest of you will have a lecture after your practical exercises. Do you understand?"
"Sir, yes, sir!"
Stoick and the others just watch from the stands, and it was easy to tell them all them that Snotlout group was going to have the hardest session.
"Looks like their kids have their hands full," said Iceberg.
"They should lay down some ground rules and demand them to listen," said Hellfire folding his arms. "That's what I did with Snotlout and his sister when they were younger."
Stoick rolled his eyes. "That explains so much."
Loudspeaker looked at Stoick, and Hellfire then rose to his feet. "Alternative, iconic things a little bit easier for them."
"I'll don't the cafeteria," said Iceberg as he rose to his feet.
Stoick waited until the two of them were gone and then turned to Hellfire. "So would you want to talk about? To be honest, I don't know what that is to say between the two of us."
"Just listen," said Hellfire. "The number of crimes committed in the past month went up 3% in comparison to the last few years. Of course, I was of more incidence than anyone else in that past month, besting my own personal records and yet I can feel it. Some unseen thing that you built up in your prime is beginning to crumble. What does it mean to be a symbol? That's what I want to know, Skullcrusher."
Down in the arena, the children were being a bit rambunctious, some of them even managed to steal Snotlout's gauntlets.
"Give those back!" he yelled as he chased after them. "Those aren't always, you damn brats!"
"Did they really swipe your gauntlets that easily?" said Ranger somewhat perplexed. "How?"
"I took them off because it's too dangerous to keep things on!"
Ranger rolled his eyes. "So you left them hanging around their children to get at them?"
Cammie was having a hard time with the girls. "You know winning your heart is rather vague. What are we even supposed to be doing here? This is weird."
Loudspeaker finally made his way to the classroom and stood next to the teacher.
"So got any special requests?" Loudspeaker asked, handing her microphone. "What are those kids need."
"So much," she said.
"Can you be a little bit more specific?"
"These elementary school years are important for character development because the difference between children and powers have a huge effect on their self-esteem. We offer counselling and help to support healthy emotional growth, but counselling is not a cure. The students in this class have completely closed their hearts to us. I understand that this is my responsibility, but still, I hope meeting heroes working hard to achieve their dreams will help lead these kids to a more respectful path."
Snotlout and the others had listened to the teacher carefully, and now they have a clear picture on what to do next.
"This is no time for bickering with each other, we have to save them," said Ranger.
"In other words, all we have to do is make friends, no problem," said Gunnar.
"Let's get is babysitting over and done with," said Snotlout. "I'm ready to go back to some actual training."
They began to gather around the discuss a battle plan.
"That stupid teacher failed her role as a leader, so the rat ended up taking over the class, this isn't something that just happens," said Snotlout. "They're not listening to her then somebody else must be in charge here. There's definitely some kind of boss that these kids are following, we just have to figure out who it is."
"And then?" Ranger asked, raising an eyebrow.
"We beat him up and hang him from a post to make an example out of the punk. Then we make the kids throw rocks at him, it'll be the most effective way to realise what an insignificant pest their leader is."
"I thought the idea was for us to be nice," said Gunnar.
"That certainly has a unique perspective," said Loudspeaker shaking his head as the teacher looked horrified.
Snotlout then face the children. "So which one of you is the strongest step up! Come fight me!"
"Such an outdated and violent way in solving problems," said the snobby kid from earlier. "You're showing your true colours."
"Enough already, just bring it!"
The teacher looked at Loudspeaker. "Uh, sir… please forgive me if this comes across as ungrateful, but other kids going to be okay?"
"Just sit back and watch the show," he said.
Cammie looked at him. "Delinquents aren't in fashion, you know?"
"How do you know they're not?" Snotlout asked.
"Getting to know each of the kids is the fastest way of becoming friends," said Gunnar and then he turned towards the children. "Who wants to be a hero?"
"I do!"
"Cool!"
"I want to be super strong!"
"Playing with children may be something that Gunnar excels at," said Asmund. "His passion always cheers people around him. Perhaps he'll pull this off."
His teacher looked at him. 'He starting a running commentary? Guess Loudspeaker's involvement rubbed off on him.'
"That's great!" said Gunnar as he picked up two children. "I wanna be a hero too. Does heroic passion bubble you up with excitement? It's the job of a hero to make sure everyone smiles. You think if you caused your teacher trouble, you likely to become heroes?"
"I guess not."
"Right, so then…"
"But wait… that means that since you gave the teachers and the commission guys more work by making them do this class, you can't become one either. Is that right?"
Gunnar just stood there as he got hit by his own logic. "I suppose that's true."
"Is it me or these kids super twisted," said Cammie looking at them.
"Exactly so a little violence is necessary," said Snotlout.
"Snotlout, they're just kids," said Ranger.
Snotlout looked at him. "Well, that's how I was raised, and I turned out all right." Silence fell as everyone looked at him. "What?"
"I think I may have a better way," said Ranger.
Snotlout looked at him curiously. "Oh? Why don't you show us what you have in mind, I'm sure this is going to be good."
"Right," said Ranger, he stepped forward.
Hellfire looked down at his son. "Look at him is allowing others to take the led. Please call the highest in combat during the entrance exam now he is taking orders from others. I managed to climb to the number two spot by the time I turned 20, and by then I understood there was no way I was ever going to reach the top. I only wanted the title for number one I could have added friendly towards everyone like you did, but no. I actually wanted to be number one."
Stoick raised an eyebrow. "So you finally realise that your ego is what is holding you back."
"Just answer me!"
"What is the symbol of peace, huh?" said Stoick thinking hard. "That's tough, considering I was never the one who called myself that. When metahumans started to crop up chaos consumed the entire country, and I felt as if it was my job to bring things back in order. I quickly moved in inspiring other heroes and saved as many lives as I could.
When people saw this, they saw me as a beacon of hope and a warning to villains. You remember that chaotic time, people are afraid to go out on the streets because of riots and violent protests, everyone was afraid even more than now. I was so fixated on bringing peace I ignored everyone around me, my son, my wife and my sidekick. That was the biggest mistake of my life."
"Your former sidekick," Hellfire nodded. "Yes, a tragedy that."
"Look Spitelout I know the situation you've been placed in and what's being said about you. There are many that can't help but dwell on our differences, but you and I are not the same person. It was my decision to become a symbol, but you don't have to do that. Instead, take your time and think about what kind of hero you want to be."
It was that point that Ranger began to approach the children. Two of the small girls looked at him dreamily.
"I know, right," said Cammie standing next to them. "He's cool, right?"
The girls then immediately looked horrified.
"We don't want to be the same kind of dits like hers lets ignore him."
"Right."
Cammie sighed. "Burn."
"This guy is boring, let's go and punch the gorilla instead."
Snotlout looked at Gunnar. "That would be you."
"I wouldn't be so sure," said Gunnar.
Ranger then closed his eyes. 'What kind of person am I? I need them to know that first or nothing I say will reach them. I must embrace my past.'
He then took a deep breath and look to the children. "My name is Ranger, and I am a student at Berk Academy, and I want to be a hero. My father is also a hero and goes by the name of the Iceberg, but I would afford my own to become my own kind of hero."
The children just looked at him with dull faces.
"So boring," they said.
Ranger then walked away disappointed. "Sorry."
"That was a nice try, Ranger," said Gunnar.
Snotlout shook his head. "I guess we have no choice."
"Hey, you three have been yelling and running after then this whole time, but I don't know wouldn't it be faster if we show them how cool our powers are?" Cammie asked.
"I was just about to suggest that!" Snotlout snapped.
"Wow, great minds think alike," she smiled.
"We have a lot of work to do, and plenty of these twerps seem to think it's fun to cause us trouble," said Snotlout. "We can't just let them gain our trust and think that's enough, we have to go all-in with the demonstration of skills."
"I see, got it," said Gunnar.
The children then noticed that Snotlout and the others were gathered around no doubt forming a plan.
"They're up to something."
The snobbish kid just smirked. 'No matter what they try, it won't work, because we know the truth. Our mummies and daddies and everyone on TV, they're all wondering if the age of heroes is over.'
The teacher's eyes widened in horror. "Careful, don't hurt them!"
The children just smirked evilly.
"Huh, you guys aren't fooling anybody, we're better than you, and we will take you down to prove it!"
"Oh…" said Snotlout as he and the boys readied themselves. "Then bring it on, let's have a proper fight."
"In the end, all you Neanderthals can do is resort uses violence," said the snobby kid. "Of course, that won't work."
'Why do they seem to have such trouble with grade-schoolers,' Loudspeaker sighed.
"Stooping to their level would be the epitome of folly," said Asmund as he suddenly appeared next to Loudspeaker.
"Who is this guy?" Loudspeaker stared.
"It appears you have not recognised the superiority of Meathead High. Therefore I'm here to assist you," Asmund said.
"Come again?"
"As Loudspeaker is perfectly aware, if my peers by seriously, the children will be left beaten and shamed. On the other hand, if they use their discretion and let the children shine, then it will only make the delinquents even more brazen. Abandoning discourse will result in failure."
"Hold on, I don't think you realise how dangerous this is," said the teacher. "Those children are strong and believe wholeheartedly that they're power surpass those of the heroes. They won't hold back against your trainees."
