Self-Awareness

Miyuki sighed softly, content and happy, as she laid besides her beloved older brother.

With his arms wrapped protectively around her, Miyuki felt safe and warm.

His warmth was intoxicating, addicting.

Her safety assured and guaranteed.

Her older brother was truly the perfect man for her.

Well, if things are to be believed, former older brother.

In a matter of hours, said brother would be her intended.

"Tomorrow, I will announce who your fiancé is at the same time as the next family head nomination, your partner is Tatsuya-san."

Those words from her Obaa-sama still lingered in her mind.

On one hand, she was delighted. She is ecstatic that her ideal man, her dream partner would be her husband.

Who better to be her husband than the person who had supported and protected her in her entire life.

Who better to be her husband than the one being who had given her everything.

Who better to be her husband that the person who owned her very being.

That being the case, Miyuki was no fool. She knew, like everyone in the Yotsuba, that Yotsuba Maya does not give out charity. Yotsuba Maya does not make a move out of the kindness of her heart. That is not how Yotsuba Maya operates.

Every kindness, every charity that Yotsuba Maya gives, she would expect an equal amount of compensation.

Maya had basically given her the man of her dreams, the man that she had dreamt of spending her whole life with, the man whose bed Miyuki vividly dreamt of warming.

Maya had given her paradise, the paradise that she had fantasizes for years, and Miyuki was wondering what compensation her aunt would ask of her in return.

Miyuki knew that whatever her aunt would ask of her, she would give without hesitation.

Having Tatsuya as her husband was worth any price.

That being said, another emotion that having Tatsuya as her future husband blossomed within her. Aside from love, elation, and satisfaction, the emotion of relief bloomed upon her heart.

Miyuki knew of her abilities. She knew that in terms of raw magical talent, she is the most talented magician in her current generation, not just within the Yotsuba, but in the entirety of Japan. In terms of sheer magical ability, she has everyone in Japan, possibly the world, beat by a mile. When it comes to raw magical power, Miyuki knew that she was second only to her brother.

As a Magician, she was second only to her brother.

Only as a magician.

Outside of being a magician, Miyuki was aware that she was lacking in many areas.

In a way, among the candidates for Maya's successor, Miyuki was the least qualify. Even Ayako has her beat.

In combat, although she could fight well and she had fought exceptionally in the past when it was demanded from her, Miyuki could acknowledge that she was lacking in combat ability. Unlike her cousins and brother, she was not sent out by the clan for missions. The risk of her getting injured, or heaven's forbid, killed in the field was too high. Regardless of her abilities as a magician and her skill as a fighter, it was still too much of a gamble to send her out for field operations.

Miyuki was aware, painfully so, that the world's existence is tied to her very life.

If she died, Tatsuya would decimate the entire world, and Miyuki was grimly aware of that fact.

The Yotsuba Clan was also aware of that fact.

Because of that, the Yotsuba Clan did not give her any field assignments, unlike her brother and cousins, depraving her of combat experience that, in a way, considering who was protecting her, she did not need in a certain point of view. Due to her lack of experience, Miyuki knew that in combat, she would be in a disadvantage against her cousins, who were more experience in battles than her, as well as soldiers and assailants with decent level of combat experience.

Miyuki might have been able to fight Angelina Shields in equal standing, but she knew enough of her abilities to acknowledge that, if the fight was prolonged or if Lina did not focus on escaping the situation that she was in, she would have lost to the American-Japanese Half-Blood.

Miyuki was confident enough to state that, to a degree, she was more powerful, more skill, and more talented of a magician magic than Lina, but when it comes to combat, both experience and prowess, Lina was head and shoulders above her.

Fortunately for her, though it was to her shame, there was someone better and stronger than her that could fight her battles. Her husband is the best fighter in the world, magic or otherwise, and Tatsuya had and would protect her from all possible dangers.

Being his future wife would intensify that protectiveness to such an extent that Miyuki was confident that she would no longer fear a fight that she could not brute force through.

Another thing that Miyuki knew that she lacked was her entrepreneurship abilities. Miyuki knew how to run a company, and how to operate a business.

Considering her status as a candidate for the next head of the family, Miyuki was taught how to run businesses, specifically the businesses owned by the Yotsuba. Unfortunately, she does not have any talents in entrepreneurship. Miyuki knew that if push comes to shove, she would be an acceptable entrepreneur, an average one at the very worst.

Unfortunately, acceptable or average is not part of the Yotsuba's vocabulary.

Again, Miyuki did not have to worry about that. Her brother is an excellent entrepreneur. Miyuki is very aware that the only reason her mother's company was still afloat and not driven to the ground by her father is due to Tatsuya managing it in the shadows.

The one glaring quality that Miyuki knew she was lacking, more so than her fighting and entrepreneurship skill, was her leadership ability.

Miyuki wanted to laugh. The next head of the Yotsuba not having a quality of a leader is a joke of poor taste.

Sadly, that is the truth.

Miyuki would acknowledge that her leadership abilities are lacking.

She was no leader.

Again, not her fault. Due to her importance to her God of a brother, Miyuki was not given any tasked that would expose her to danger, and that means no field operations in her life, meaning she was not given a group to lead and she was not taught how to lead. Furthermore, she was not sufficiently train in other task that would require her to lead.

Her current position as the Student Council President of First High School was not worth putting on her resume as a leader.

Most of the students in First High were sheep and they would obey her if she threw a half-hearted or fake smile towards their direction. Those who can think for themselves can't control their libido enough to deny any of her orders or requests. Those who can think and can control their libido around her can be cowed with fear through her power.

And those people were not afraid of her, they were afraid of her perfect brother, her fiancé, and soon to be husband.

Miyuki found it laughable that the leader that the Yotsuba should be clamouring for was not even considered a candidate.

Tatsuya is a good leader. Great even in Miyuki's personal and heavily biased opinion. If Miyuki can gain followers through her beauty and through intimidation with her magical powers alone, Tatsuya could do so equally through his sheer presence alone. Tatsuya, to those with eye problems, looks average and unspectacular, again, to those with eye problems or just blind, but he has a presence, an aura that inspires dependability and competence. In addition, Tatsuya was very capable leader, with loads of experience on his belt.

Tatsuya is the type of leader that would inspire people to follow him through his sheer competency alone.

As much as the other servants of the Yotsuba detested Tatsuya, the fact remains that obeying him in operations would increase their likelihood of survival. Missions that involved Tatsuya always resulted in success with zero to minimal casualties.

Tatsuya had never failed a mission in his life, both in the military and as a Yotsuba Operative.

Not just in field operation, Tatsuya has experience and success in leading business operations as well.

Having Tatsuya as her future husband filled Miyuki with relief not just because she could finally bury her nightmare of having another man that is not Tatsuya by her side, but due to the knowledge that Miyuki could have Tatsuya as the actual head of the family, with her being his figure head.

Miyuki did not have any desires to be the head of the Yotsuba Clan. In fact, she would have been happy spending her life as her brother's primary magic and CAD tester. Unfortunately, that is not on the table for her life. Being the daughter of Shiba Miya had all but guaranteed her as a candidate to succeed Yotsuba Maya. Her inborn talents and power in magic had turned her into the front runner to succed their aunt.

Unfortunately, all the qualities of a leader that would have made her the ideal successor for Yotsuba Maya, she either did not possess or she was lacking.

Fortunately, her future husband possessed those qualities in spades.

The Yotsuba Clan may not want anything to do with her dear, beloved brother, but her brother was the leader that would elevate the Clan to heights that they could only dream of.

And that would come to past.

By marrying her, Tatsuya would be the true head of the Yotsuba.

Miyuki would be the figure head who would support every decision that her Onii-sama would made. She would be the figure head that would implement every policy that her brother decided on.

The porcelain puppet queen controlled by her much more competent consort.

And maybe that was Maya's plan all along.

Her fate the price Maya was asking her to pay to have Tatsuya as her husband.

The best possible heir of the Yotsuba Clan is hated, rejected, and feared by the family.

But that doesn't change the fact that Tatsuya is the best possible Clan Head for the Yotsuba, the best successor for Yotsuba Maya.

Shiba Tatsuya is the best possible heir that any of the 28 Families worthy of the name Ten Master Clans could ever dreamt of.

Maya could have easily strong-armed the entire family into accepting Tatsuya as her heir, but that would result into hostility, and a possible schism within the family.

A schism that Maya could easily put down, but even the notorious Queen of Night could see the folly of culling the Yotsuba's numbers even further.

So instead, Maya went the long road.

Assigning the most talented magician as the next Clan Head, who is self-aware enough to know that Tatsuya is the best possible heir of the Clan, and with the willingness to give him control of the clan through her.

Assigning the least qualified among the candidates as the next Clan Head, who can set aside pride, self-satisfaction, and self-gratification, with the willingness to be a mere figurehead for the good of the clan.

Setting aside Tatsuya's love for her, setting aside the fact that Tatsuya would only ever love and value her fully, meeting those two criterions qualified her to be the next head of the Yotsuba.

Miyuki could see how future Yotsubas would see her now.

In the history of the Yotsuba Clan, for however long the family would exist, she will be known as a puppet Clan Head, just a pretty face behind the true leader of the family.

The Clan would eventually forget her remarkable and prodigious magical talents and abilities, they would forget the prowess and skill that she had and would display with her magic, but they would remember how she willingly give control of the entire clan to her consort, in exchange for love, for affection, and for sex.

She would be remembered as a Clan Head in name only, a mere accessory for one Yotsuba Tatsuya.

That was the price that Maya was asking her to pay to have Tatsuya as her husband.

With a smile on her face and as she curled herself in the embrace of her future husband, Miyuki decided that she would pay said price, with interest.
