The next morning I awoke with a start, I felt like I was falling then shoved back into my, this, body I was in. At first I didn't know where I was, but there was a knock at my door and a pink haired doctor walked in. The memories from the day before came rushing back. I was in the Naruto Universe, a fictional place that I had read about in a manga, it even had its own anime and a sequel.
"Good morning,"
She paused for a moment.
"Natsumi, I hope you had a good nights rest."
"Yeah it was just peachy."
She checked all my vitals just like the day before. And took down her notes, she asked me a few of the same questions from the day before as well. Most likely to see is I had suffered from any amnesia. I answered all the questions correctly and she seemed please with the results.
"So everything looks good, but until your body is at full strength again I can't discharge you from the Hospital. That and Kakashi-Sensei has asked they you stay here a little while longer. Oh and before I forget."
She brought up the bag she had carried in with her.
"I got some clothes for you, they might be slightly too big but it's a start for now. And you don't have to wear that hospital gown, I know they can be uncomfortable."
"Thanks"
She smiled at me and then left the room. I looked in the bag and found a few different outfits inside. True to her word they did look a bit big for me, but not too much to be obvious. With the fresh air I felt coming in from the slightly open window I could tell it must be late summer, almost ready to shift into fall soon. By the way I hadn't even noticed the window was open till just now. I pulled on a red dress that came just above my knees. And it looked like Sakura had even put in a pair of very comfortable looking slippers. I shouldn't have been surprised, if Kakashi knew me, she would too, right.
It was a good thing I was in a bed at the moment. Mostly because my legs did not move very well. I assume they will have me do some sort of physical therapy to regain full function of my legs again.
The knock at my door signaled that Sakura was coming back in, but when I turned to see her. I instead saw Kakashi Hatake standing in the door way. We stared at each other for a good minute before I said something to break the silence.
"Is there something I can help do for you Lord Hokage?"
His tensed shoulders relaxed slightly.
"I'm, I wanted to apologize for the way I left yesterday."
"Oh, you don't have to do that."
"No I do. You see Natsumi I uh,"
He was stumbling over his words. Does me being in this body make him nervous?
"This isn't easy for me to, um, take in. The Natsumi I know is staring at me but it's not the same person that I'm talking to."
I didn't know what to say so I just stayed quiet and let him continue.
"When the time came that you would wake up I understood that it wouldn't be the Natsumi I knew. It was going to be someone else. This is just still a shock to me."
"She's someone important to you?"
"Yes, very."
"Kaka-Sensei, I didn't expect you to be here."
"Ah, Sakura. I was close by and thought I'd come speak with Natsumi about the days to come. If it is possible we could go for a walk in the garden."
"Oh well that's nice. Right Natsumi?"
"Yeah that's just great."
I said a bit sarcastically as I still looked at Kakashi.
"I'll get a wheel chair since you still can't walk that well on your own."
She left the room and we were alone once more.
"I wont keep you for long, but we do need to talk."
I opened my mouth to say something but Sakura, woman had the worst timing ever, came back in with a wheel chair.
"Here we go. Some fresh air would be good for you."
I began to shift myself to the edge of the bed, but was stopped.
"I'll help you."
Kakashi put arm behind my back and the other under my legs. I put my arms around his neck. He lifted me with ease, I didn't weigh much as is. Gently he sat me in the chair while Sakura got a blanket from the cabinet in the room. She laid it across my legs, most likely to keep me from getting cold.
"Alright you are all good to go. Don't keep her out for too long she still needs a lot of rest."
"Yes doctor, I understand."
"Good, we are having beautiful weather today. Be a shame to waist it sitting in that bed all day."
"I guess."
She smiled at me, then Kakashi began to push me out of the room. We went down the hall and to an elevator. Once inside I began to feel the familiar feeling of a small in closed space. The only plus that it was only Kakashi and I.
"I don't do well in small spaces."
"Yes I can tell. It will take time before you regain function of your legs. Here we are, now we get out."
Walking through the first floor of the Hospital we reached the garden that was out back. Sakura was right, it was a very beautiful day.
"So what do you want to talk to me about?"
"I'm sure you already know that it would be best for you to stay here until you are well enough to take care of yourself. But when the time comes for you to leave."
We came to a small table and Kakashi sat down.
"When it comes time for you to leave I will be here. You and I will live together. My home is yours. Has been for a while. Natsumi and I were together, we were married."
He took a moment before speaking again.
"I know it will not be easy to adjust to. But it would not be safe to leave you on your own. I still don't know how my wife came to be sick, fall into a coma and almost die. Which of my enemies could it have been?"
That last part he posed as a question mostly to himself.
"It's not your fault."
I tried to reassure him.
"It is, I know it is. I let my guard down, I thought I. We could live a normal happy life together. I was wrong. But I wont make that mistake again. I'll keep you safe in this life."
"I, I can't love you the way she did, not now. In time yes, maybe. But not now. Not yet."
"I understand it will take time. I loved my wife more then anything. I can wait until you are ready."
"You may be waiting a while. Do I have any family?"
"No, your parents have both passed. You were taken in by Rin's parents, but they too have passed."
"I guess things would be better that way."
"You don't sound too upset."
"No I'm really not. In the world I come from I did not have a very good family life. My parents were not the best there was, and my husband was not all that great either."
"You had been married?"
"Yes, but it was more of a transaction between my parents and the man I was married to. There was no love between us. I did everything possible to be a good wife, but he wasn't the kind of man anyone would want to be married to. To the outside world we were the perfect couple. Behind closed doors things were very, very different."
"I am sorry you had that kind of experience."
"What's done is done. I do have a bit of an issue though and I think it is wise for me to bring it up."
"What is it?"
"I was diagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and suicidal tendencies. And it would seem that some of my scars have followed me here."
I up turned my wrist to show him, he did not flinch away like most people would when they saw my scars. He took my boney hands into his.
"I will do everything I can to keep this from happening again. You are not alone here. This world may be new and different, but there are so many people here who knew Natsumi. And everyone of them would do whatever it takes to make you happy and keep you safe."
"Thank you for that. I was also wondering, I know that the healing methods here is very different compared to where I am from. Scars can disappear in an instant if one chooses for it to happen. I was going to bring this up with Sakura but I'll just ask now. Is there anyway to make these scars go away? So I don't have to look at them anymore."
"Yes, we can have Sakura take care of this for you."
We sat in silence for a while, just enjoying the peace and quiet in the sunshine. That was until a nurse found us and harassed Kakashi about keeping me out for too long and that he needed to take me back to my room. We went back to my room and Sakura came in a moment after I was settled in my bed.
"I see you have returned to your room."
"Yes and I have a request to make."
"Oh,"
She looked from me to Kakashi then back.
"What is it?"
"I know you have noticed these scars."
I did the same with her as I did with Kakashi and showed her the scars on my wrists.
"Can you make them gone? Permanently, so I never have to look at them again."
She smiled at me, it was soft and sweet.
"It would be my pleasure to heal those for you."
Her has glowed green and she placed them on my wrists. It was a warm and soothing sensation. Kakashi stayed with me a little while longer before he was pulled away to the Hokage Tower to do paperwork that had been building up the last few weeks. The rest of my day was uneventful, that same as the day before I was brought my lunch then dinner. To end the day Sakura checked on me once more before leaving. I guess you could say that things were not as bad as they could have seemed. But then again I had only been here two days, and I didn't even know what happened to the original, soul, I guess we will call it that. I didn't know what had happened to the original soul of this body to cause it to be in the hospital. I would find out though, it was now important to me to know what happened to cause all of this. And before I went to sleep for the night I realized that I hadn't asked anyone how old I was. Another important piece of information I needed to know.
