I had spent the next few weeks in the hospital. My rehab to gain stable mobility was not going too well. But it did not help that the doctor who was supposed to be helping me was not very supportive. At the present I was sitting in my just staring out the window. With Sakura being sent away on a mission the nurses rarely let me out of my room. I was unbelievably bored out of my mind.
"It's going to be another beautiful day."
The voice that came from the doorway brought a small smile to my face.
"I wish to feel the sun on my face."
I turned to look at Kakashi. My smile reached up to my eyes.
"You've been gone for a while."
"Yes, my apologies,"
He said walking into the room, hand over his chest.
"There was a lot I had to take care of these past few days."
I nodded my head and looked back out the window.
"I want to go outside."
"Maybe after your physical therapy session. If you are not too tired we can go outside."
"I feel as though this doctor does not like me."
"What gives you that feeling."
"She pushes me too hard, she's almost cruel. Would it be wrong to request someone else? I just feel worse some how after my sessions with her."
"Let's get through today and I will speak with the doctor that has taken over for Sakura."
There was a knock at the door and it paused our conversation.
"Lady Hatake I am here to take you to your physical therapy session."
The nurse was far too chipper for me right now, especially since I did not want to go.
"Why don't I take you today, this way we can go for a walk afterwards."
"Yes, I would like that very much."
"Are you sure Lord Hokage? You don't need to I am very capable of taking Lady Hatake to her appointment."
"I truly do not mind."
Kakashi walked over to the nurse and took the wheelchair from her. In doing so I noticed he had a bag of sorts with him.
"Is that for me?"
I said eyeing the bag then turning my gaze to him.
"Hmm, ah yes."
He held up the bag to motion to it. Kakashi dismissed the nurse and came closer.
"I brought something from home for you. I think you may like it."
He put the bag in my lap and let me open it to see inside. I pulled the article of clothing out and saw that it was a red silk fabric robe with black trim along the sleeves and sides down the opening. It had an assortment of flowers as the official design for it.
"It's beautiful. Thank you Kakashi."
"You're welcome."
I pulled it on and it fit close to my body, I loved the feel of it on my skin. The robe went perfectly over what I wore for the day. I had on just a plain white tank with tight black shorts. Once I had it on Kakashi helped me into my chair so we could dreadfully go to my physical therapy appointment. Our small walk was quiet like always, neither of us pushing a conversation. I did however get a few complements on my rob and I didn't feel as venerable as before. I was definitely more comfortable around others now. That was until we came to the physical therapy wing of the hospital. I knew Kakashi could feel my rising anxiety as we got closer. He stopped in front of the door that was made of glass and open so we could see inside.
"Do I really have to do this?"
"It's going to help or would you rather not get better and be stuck in this chair for the rest of your life."
"I guess you do make a point. Okay, I'll bare with it. For now."
"See motivation, I'm sure you will be back to normal health in no time. You're not as skeletal looking anymore. That is certainly a good thing."
"You noticed."
"Of course, it took quite a bit of effort to get you from the bed to the chair."
"Hey, are you saying I'm fat now."
He gave a small laugh, both his eyes crinkled closed.
"No, I'm just joking with you. Let's go in now shall we."
"Your jokes aren't very funny."
We finally walked in and was directed to a station that had a walking mat with two standing bars on either side. The doctor strolled up shortly after we were settled.
"Ah, Hokage-Sama, I had not been expecting you to be here today."
"Hmm, I had some free time and wanted to see how things were going so far."
"Oh, well I guess that would be okay."
The doctor stood taller and pushed her chest out. I was already done with her and wished this was all over for the day.
"I'll be just over there."
Kakashi said as he kissed the top of my head, it was the small sweet things he did that I was great full for, and walked away. The doctor came around to my chair and locked the wheels so it wouldn't move when I tried to get up.
"Shall we begin."
Kakashi POV:
I went to stand at a far off wall close to the door. As I watched Natsumi attempt to lift herself out of her chair, I had to fight my urge to run to help her. She wouldn't get better if I did everything for her. Though as I watched I could see what she was talking about with this doctor. The woman was too forceful for my liking. I heard she was the best but if she was going to treat Natsumi like this I would need to request a re-assignment to another doctor for her.
"Hm, Kakashi what are you doing here?"
I turned to see Guy and Mirai come up next to me.
"Ah, I came to see Natsumi today."
"Oh right she had a session today. How is it going so far?"
"Hard to tell. I'm not too happy with the way this doctor is treating her. I also think she might be getting depressed being in the Hospital. It may be time I bring her home already."
"Is that truly wise, considering we still do not know who did this to her."
"She can't stay in the Hospital forever. I've already put together a two man team to watch her when I am not around."
"Only two,"
"They are two of the best shinobi I know. And they care for her like others do."
When I turned back to watch Natsumi she looked to still be struggling to get her feet to move properly. She had already made it halfway down the walking mat. Her doctor was making a not too pleased face and saying something I couldn't quite hear. But the second I saw her foot slip I knew she wouldn't be able to hold herself up anymore. I moved quickly to catch her, she'd let go of the bars and was now holding onto my vest.
"It's okay, I've got you. Just relax I wont let you fall."
"I don't want to do this anymore."
"Hokage-Sama if you help her she will never learn to do it on her own."
"Had I not helped my wife she would have fallen and become more injured. We are done here for to day, I am taking her back to her room."
I lifted her into my arms and turned to the doctor. Natsumi hid her face in my shoulder.
"You can't just stop our session she's not done yet."
"She is done, I am taking her back to her room to rest."
"This is unacceptably, I will not allow it to happen."
The doctor crossed her arms over her chest in defiance.
"I am the Hokage and I don't care what you have to say. Your assistance in my wife's rehabilitation is no longer needed."
Without another word said I shunshined away. Once we were back in Natsumi's room I put her in the bed.
"I am going to go find your doctor. You are going home."
I didn't have to look far her doctor was already walking to the room.
"Hokage-Sama, I heard about what happened."
"I need Natsumi's discharge papers, she's going home."
"I'm sorry but I cannot allow for that to happen. Lady Natsumi is still too weak to leave the hospital as of now. It is best she stay here where someone can watch her."
"I am taking her home. And I need a list of all the rehabilitation doctors we have. I was not satisfied with the one that was provided for my wife."
"But my Lord, my sister is the best we have."
"I am not allowing that woman to go near my wife again. I very much suggest you do as I have asked and bring Natsumi's discharge papers."
"Lord Sixth,"
'Damn it, I was hoping Tsunade would not get involved.'
"Why are you harassing my employees?"
"I'm taking Natsumi home. But I need her discharge papers in order to do so."
"I see. Mai go a head and prepare Natsumi-Chan's papers."
"But my Lady,"
Tsunade lifted a hand to dismiss her.
"It's fine, we can still provide Natsumi-Chan all the care she needs from home."
"As you wish."
The doctor walked away and it was just me and Tsunade in the hall.
"Why now?"
"What?"
"Why now? You have left her here for weeks without a thought."
"That's not true. I thought she was being taken cared of. She's not, she's getting depressed staying here. They aren't even allowing her to go outside. Have you seen the way she stares out the window. And that doctor you have to help with her rehabilitation, she's cruel to her. I want her suspended without pay for the way she treats Natsumi."
The doctor from before walked back to us and she handed the papers to Tsunade. Without looking at me she quickly walked away. Tsunade motioned for us to go into the room. She handed me the discharge papers.
"Here, look through these then sign on the last page. Hello Natsumi, how are you feeling today."
"I've been better."
She was rolled on her side not looking at us.
"I need you to sit up, please. I am going to do one last check-up before you go home."
She lifted her head and turned to us.
"I'm going home?"
"Yes, now sit up I want to make sure you are well."
She rolled over onto her back, and steadily lifted herself to a seated position. Tsunade walked closer to her, went through the normal motions of getting her vitals then she uncovered her legs. She ran the bottom of her pen down both Natsumi's feet.
"Can you feel that?"
"Yes,"
"Wiggle your toes for me."
She did and they moved like any normal persons would.
"Well you do have complete function of both feet. How about here?"
Again she ran her pen along the bottom half of Natsumi's legs.
"It's prickly, like when your leg falls asleep."
"Try to tense the muscle."
She did, the muscles in her legs barely moved. That's not good.
"Hm, well this may be the cause of why you have yet to be able to walk. Your muscles are still stiff, they are hardly worked. Did you physical therapist do any type of leg work through aside from trying to get you to walk?"
"No, she would set me up at the walking mat and have me hold onto the bars while I tried to move."
Tsunade turned to me.
"Alright I'll do as you asked, I will also prepare a list of more reliable physical therapist and my doctors who make house calls more then working in the hospital. Interview them, I will give you a week to get Natsumi settled. After that you need to have a doctor and physical therapist. If you have not found one I will a sign one for you."
"I understand."
"Good, Natsumi everything looks good aside from the muscles in your legs. I will make sure your new physical therapist helps take care of that issue for you. I think with that it should also lessen the pain you feel when you try to walk."
"Thank you."
"Well I will have a nurse bring a wheelchair in so you can leave. I want you to know that if you need anything just tell Kakashi, I will come to your home to check on you."
"I do appreciate that Lady Tsunade."
"I am glad. Kakashi if you could join me outside briefly please."
I followed Tsunade out of the room and she gently closed the door.
"I see what you mean by her looking depressed. That far off look she had worries me, especially since we know what type of life she came from before ending up here. I am going to have a list of Psychiatrist sent to you as well."
"Thank you for your help. I don't think I would be able to handle anything else happening to her."
"That is completely understandable. Now if you'll excuse me I have some list to make so we can get our Natsumi back on her feet and happy."
"Thank you again Tsunade."
She nodded her head at me and walked away. I took a deep breath before re-entering the room with my wife.
