Life is Beautiful
Chapter 4
Natsumi's POV
Kakashi walked back into the room and I waited for him to speak first. He also had some papers in his hand.
"These are your discharge papers, just need for you to sign the last page."
He handed them to me along with a pen from his pocket. I took them and flipped through the pages, scanning over it as I made my way to the last page. At first I was a bit confused on how to sign.
"I can sign for you, if you'd like?"
"No, no I can do it."
I signed the papers as Natsumi Hatake and not Natasha Dobrow. That name no longer held meaning to me. For all I know she was dead and there was no point in holding onto her. After signing I handed the papers back to him. Before I could say anything to him someone walked in. It was a nurse with a wheelchair.
"Hello, I am here to collect your discharge papers and see you leave with everything you need."
"Thank you, we appreciate that."
Kakashi spoke to her and he handed the discharge papers to her as well. As she looked over them Kakashi brought the wheelchair closer to me so I can get in it. He was moving to pick me up and put me in the chair but I stopped him.
"I want to try on my own first."
"Okay,"
I moved the blanket that was covering me and saw how skinny and bone like my legs still were. I had gained some weight but it really wasn't much. For some reason I still am not able to eat like normal. Sakura had said when she came back from her mission she wanted to go over a more refined meal plan for me. One that would promote weight gain but not too quickly.
Stiffly I was able to move my legs to hang over the side of the bed. Kakashi hovered over me like a mama bird with her new chick. With determination I scooted to the edge of the bed and slowly let my feet meet the ground. It was cold but just the fact that I could feel it was a surprise to me.
'Had Tsunade done something when she was checking me over?'
Weather she did or not I was just glad to feel something. I shifted more of my weight to my hands to push myself off the bed. And for all of a second I stood on my own. But it didn't last. My knees buckled and I felt Kakashi catch me. The nurse was quick to be by my side as well, I hadn't even noticed she moved.
"How about I help you by holding you up while you try to move your legs to get into the chair?"
"Okay."
"Let me angle the wheelchair a little closer. It is good you have the drive to want to do this yourself my Lady. But please don't hesitate to ask for our help."
"I do appreciate you both."
I told them as I started to try and lift at least one foot even slightly. It was working, I was shifting myself little by little to the chair while leaning onto Kakashi for support. The nurse did try to move the wheelchair closer to me with every shift I made. I politely asked her to stop doing that. But when I felt I wasn't going to be able to move myself any closer, I let her and Kakashi do the rest of the work.
"That was very good progress my Lady."
The nurse said as she got together the few things I had in the room. I didn't have much so she didn't take long.
"Okay, I am sure I got everything. That wheelchair is yours to keep at home. If something happens to it just send a message to the hospital and a new one will be brought out to you."
"Thank you for all your help."
I thanked her genuinely, I couldn't remember her name but she had been the nicest to me the whole time I'd been here. I was a little sad to be leaving now.
"We should get going."
The nurse said her goodbyes as did we and we left the hospital. Though I wish it could have been done on a more normal sense, it was not. We appeared in front of what I was assuming our home within seconds thanks to Kakashi's jutsu.
"Are you okay?"
"A little dizzy, but I will be fine."
"I didn't think you wanted to deal with the crowds or other people we may have run into had we strolled through the Village."
"Thanks, for that."
"Well this is it, home sweet home."
I took in the sight of the house in front of me. It was a traditional Japanese styled home, looked to be two stories. That would be a bit of a struggle for me til I had better use of my legs. Kakashi opened the door and pushed me into the home. He removed his shoes at the door and turned me around to get the wheelchair up the small step.
"Alright time for a tour."
He turned me around so I could get a look inside the entry way and began walking.
"So this would be the living room space."
He said as we came into the room.
"Nothing too fancy, pretty basic. Next we have the kitchen and eating area."
We walked to the other side and the kitchen looked fairly big along with a space dedicated to a big round table.
"Till you are able to stand on your own I can take care of all the cooking. If there is ever anything specific that you would like I don't mind making it.
I continued to explore the kitchen area with my eyes and noticed the large opening that looked to lead outside. Kakashi must have noticed where I was looking and rolled me in that direction.
"This leads to outside. The porch around the front wraps itself around the whole house. The back area is well kept with a small space we normally use for training. Of course you won't be using that as of now. Not until you are ready that is."
We stayed outside for a few minutes more then went back inside. We walked down a hall that had a few doors.
"Next we have a small bathroom that guest normally use. And this next door leads to the room I have claimed as an at home office I tend to bring home work with me sometimes. And the last door on the first floor is our room."
Our room, right because we are married so we would share a room. The thought of it though did make me nervous. We walked into the spacious room, it was so clean and well kept. And just being in here felt safe and comfortable, but that could also be this body recognizing the space we were in. This room too had a doorway that lead to the outside. There was an open door on one wall we came closer to it and I could see it was a bathroom.
"There are also two closets. One for each of us."
He went to the one that was on the same side as the door to the outside yet there was a bit of wall space between the door and that side of the room.
"This is your closet. I know right now most of the clothes aren't going to fit you so well but I'm sure the dresses in here will be fine to wear. You will mostly be at home till you have the strength to leave and move around the village."
"From the outside the house does not looks so big as when you get inside. And there is still an upstairs?"
"Yes. Upstairs has your office along with a library connected to it a second full bathroom and two more spare bedrooms. I can take you up there but we would have to leave the wheelchair chair down here. Although if you are not up to it today then we can do so another day."
"I think I'm good just being downstairs for now."
"Okay. When you do want to go upstairs I do not mind taking you."
"Thank you."
I tried to hold in my yawn but Kakashi noticed it.
"You've done a lot already today. Do you want to rest in the bed for a little while?"
"I would like to rest a little. I've spent so long just sitting in a hospital bed. Not used to being so active during the day, sorry."
"No need to apologize, it's understandable you still become tired easily."
Kakashi brought me closer to the bed on the side that looked outside. It really was a nice day out. He pulled down the blankets and adjusted the pillows then turned to me.
"I'm going to help you get into the bed. I know you should be doing this on your own, but I think you've done quite a bit already."
"That's fine. I appreciate the help"
He locked the wheels on the chair so it would not move and with ease lifted me as if I weighed nothing. Well to him that could be very true. Gentle he sat me on the edge of the bed and I made the attempt to move myself further onto the bed and get comfortable. Though Kakashi hovered over me the whole time, ready to assist if I asked for it. Once I was finally settled he backed off.
"I'll be just in the other room. If you need anything just all for me. Or if you like I can summon one of my ninja hounds and they can stay in here with you."
"Oh, no you don't have to do that. I think I'll be just fine on my own."
"Okay, well like I said just call if you need anything."
"Thank you, I will."
He left the room but not without looking back at me as if I would disappear if he took his eyes off of me. When he was finally satisfied I wasn't going anywhere he left the room with the door open. It did take me a bit of time to fall asleep though it was not from lack of being comfortable and feeling safe. My mind just took a while to finally settle.
Okay, I know it has been a long while since I have updated any of my stories. And for that I don't have any excuses aside from well life happens, I work a 12 hour day 5 days a week and it can be very exhausting. I do have maybe 3 stories that will be uploaded hopefully I will deem them good enough to have out before the end of the year.
My plan is to take down all the stories I currently have except for this story and the KHR story I have for Dino because that one is complete. So there is nothing I need to change with it. I will say I have contemplated re-doing that one but I haven't even started an outline of how I'd re-work the story, so it will stay as is.
Other than that I do hope you all enjoyed this very long over do chapter. I do already have about half a page of the next chapter written so fingers crossed it will not take too long to have the chapter out. – itachiluv89
