Prompt: You lost...

Horizon couldn't believe what had happened. He couldn't comprehend it. They failed. Unlike any human, he had lost. And it had cost the world.

He and Amber had fought Necrozma to prevent the world's destruction, who planned on absorbing the world's light to fuel his own power. Amber and Horizon were fighting him in his domain, a world of inky blackness controlled only by him.

The Rockruff stared at me with the same look of horror on her face, the realization kicking in. We hadn't been helping save the world, we were aiding in its end.

"We were tricked…" I breathed stepping back from my partner. We had lost the fight against Necrozma, and he went on one of his long-drawn-out monologues Explaining his plan, explaining what he was gonna do and even, explaining my purpose.

*Minutes earlier*

"You see Horizon," Necrozma had said, "You and your insignificant friend here have only aided me." The black armoured alien leaned down into my face, "You see I was that voice that summoned you, when i still had power when I was SANE," Necrozma chuckled as my face contorted from terror to realization.

Necrozma shot me a wink, "You see you were never destined to save this world, you were destined to destroy it."

I stepped back from Necozma's giant head, my head spinning.

"no it can't be…" i thought defiantly, "This isn't… my fault?" I was now a little more unsure of myself. I did this, I was the villain, I…

Cost us everything…

Necrozma casted a glance at Amber laid unconscious to his right as my inner turmoil continued.

"She was destined to save this world," Necrozma continued looking back at me, "And with you as my pawn I used both your destinies to… cancel per se say, so it was up to you two on whether you would succeed or not," Necrozma grinned as I glared at him, "It's clear to me you were too weak."

I didn't even try to protest, I let my anger dissipate rather than lashing out… for Amber's sake.

Necozma gave me a surprised look, "No response?"

I frowned at him etching closer to Amber. I needed to protect her, if my life was lost at least she could survive and maybe destiny would aid her on finally defeating Necrozma… without me to screw everything up…. Like always.

Necrozma laughed loud and harsh at me, his voice scratchier than before, "Trying to protect your little friend?" He asked me. To my surprise he floated back, "Be my guest, not like your response matters…" The Ultra beast cut himself off awaiting my response.

I took my opportunity and rushed to Amber, stumbling over my paws once i reached her. I shielded her from Necrozma and his gaze.

"Unless you can be of use to me." He said as I checked on Amber.

After Necrozma just stood there staring, I realized i wasn't going anywhere. I released a sigh and begrudgingly asked what Necrozma wanted, "Unless what?"

"See your getting it!" He laughed harshly, he cleared his throat before continuing, "I wish to make a deal with you."

I hummed in response out of surprise.

"Why?" I inquired, suspicion oozed in my voice, "Y-You've already won," I sighed sadly, "All because of me, what more do you want from me? Do you just want to humiliate me more?"

Necrozma shook his head sighing dramatically, "No I want to make a deal."

I raised a brow at him, "A Deal?"

Necrozma nodded a throne forming from the ground behind him, "Why yes, how about this, if you help me I can offer you and all your friends a place in a new world, once I regain my light I can manipulate a universe into the one you knew, you and your friend won't have to work again."

I glanced back at Amber solemnly, I just wanted her to to live and be happy. I glared back at him and simply asked:

"What do I need to do?"

"Ah so happy you'd ask!" Necozma said enthusiastically floating in a circle, "You go around and collect the remaining crystals of power for me, so i am able to absorb this world's light," Necrozma explained, "Simple."

"D-don't do it," Amber whispered to me, "we can still win," She lifted her head Slightly her eyes full of sadness and desperation, "P-Please, 'H'."

Necrozma glared at Amber, "Insignificant Mutt!" He hissed opening one of his hands and releasing a laser at us.

I stepped in the way and was blasted back pain scattered over my entire body. I landed with a thud behind Amber.

"We'd make the mother of all omelets here Horizon cant fret over every littke insignificant egg!" Necrozma cursed angrily pounding the ground with a fist, "Deals off Six tails," Necozma snorted, "Enjoy your final moments here."

Necozma turned away opening an Ultra wormhole and without another word entered leaving the two of us stranded as it closed behind him.

"Rrrrg, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!" I screamed at her, pounding the ground with my paws, "We could've lived! Away from him! Together!! A-as if it n-never…"

Amber released a weak whine.

"He was manipulating you," Amber squeaked quietly burying her face in her paws, "I just…"

My anger melted immediately as i stared at her, Amber was quivering she was never scared and if she was, she never showed it, but now realizing our impending doom, existentialism was getting to her.

I walked over to her and laid by her side, swallowing my nerves.

"I'm… sorry Amber," I sighed nudging her with my nose, "F-For everything."

Amber sniffed and cuddled up to me resting her head on my shoulder,

"Me too," She sighed nudging me back, "We… weren't strong enough…"

I nodded releasing another breath.

"What now?" I asked her.

She sighed giving me a look of fear, "We wait."

"That's all we can do isn't it?" I sighed again tears welling in my eyes. We stared at each other tearful eyed and full of fear.

"We're hopeless."

We laid there in silence in each other's embrace, neither of us dared move not wanting to. We were doomed anyway, so we planned on spending our last moments together.

Then the ground shook, and the darkness came closing in.

If this were like any other hero story, We would've been saved, just in time so we could go finish Necrozma for good! But I wasn't the hero, I wasn't good enough.

The inky black terrain seemed as though it formed around us trapping us in a cube. We both stood and Amber casted me a look of terror. What was this? What's going to happen to us?

Then Amber began to glow, not blue as of she was evolving but gold, as if she was disappearing, with the same gold that dragged me here.

I didn't glow… i stayed my golden self, no glow, only hopeless darkness.

"Horizon!" She yelped clinging to me, Horizon yelped in surprise as Amber wrapped her paws around his neck and shoulders, fear and desperation was clear and evident in her voice, "Wh-What's going on!!"

I stared at her unmoving. The golden light, the thing that brought me here, was saving her. I could've felt jealous, i could've felt anger. No I only felt relief.

"Horizon!" She yelped again as her body began to fade, "Don't let me go!! Please! I don't want to leave you!!" She cried tears forming on her eyes, "Why aren't you glowing!?" She sounded so sad, I wished I could've hugged her back, I could've soothed her beating heart, I could feel as her paws squeezed me tighter.

"I'm the villain," I replied glumly looking in her bloodshot eyes, "We don't get second chances."

Amber collapsed into helpless sobs, "No, no, nooo!!! I can't leave you here!! I just can't!!"

I sniffed as i watched her throw a fit, just like me, when i first arrived. Sadness etched it's way way into my heart as tears rolled down my cheeks.

I released a weak whine and wrapped my paws around her fading body, at least we could share one more moment together before she was gone.

"So sorry but, you don't have a say," A stuck up voice responded. Amber gave me one last look of fear, sadness, terror and… hope, before the light consumed her, in my paws, and she was gone, Poof just like that.

"Now as for you," The voice continued, "Failure is not tolerated." It went, "Nor is sabotage."

I narrowed me eyes, they were still wet from my tears making my vision blurry. The blank blackness around me looked like it stretched for miles yet felt like i was trapped in a cage.

"Horizon Soulful, Son of Aika, you have failed yourself, your teammate and our world." The voice continued in numbing monotony.

"You will be forever forgotten," it continued its voice unchanging, "Your friend will forget you, she will grow and achieve her dreams, she will become famous with a quieter, braver, nicer, less corrupt partner."

I could feel eyes burning into the back of my head, yet when i looked nothing was there. I kept whirling around, whenever i felt that presence nearby, I was going in circles.

Then something hit me. Whatever it was it lit up my spine and made me lurch forward, and fall to the floor.

"You are truly pathetic."

As I stood back to my paws, I placed a paw on the back of my head. My paw came back red. Wincing I glared around the darkness.

Another projectile I couldn't see struck me again, this time directly on my chin.

"Weak."

I fell to my back with a yelp in pain. Standing quickly again a shot a jet of flames from my mouth and spun in a circle.

The flames pittered out as I breathed heavily catching my bearings. "What is this?" I demanded staring around, "They have Amber, just leave me here to die."

I withheld the urge to call for help, to scream into the darkness, "Amber! Rowan! Noelle! Yurei! Hell even Strife!" just for them to witness my downfall.

Another projectile struck the back of my head again, throwing my to the floor.

"Worthless."

I moved my paw to force myself up. This time i heard the whistle of the projectile strike of paw, "Aaahhhaa!!" I cried out in pain.

"Selfish."

I couldn't feel my paw, a deep slash had cut directly into the front part of it, where my wrist would bend, rendering it worthless to walking.

Using my opposite paw, I didn't know what else I expected, same goal, same response.

"Stoooooppp!!" I begged clutching my other paw tears leaving my eyes.

"Ruinous."

I growled in anger, ignoring the pain in my paws I forced myself back to my fours, "Come out and fight me!" I called out angrily, as I bared my fangs.

Another projectile struck my snout. I stumbled back a it struck, I could taste blood in my mouth. Whatever it was sent me reeling.

"Overbearing."

Another projectile struck me in the back and finally I fell groaning in pain, They were playing with me, I knew it.

"Wretched."

I groaned from the floor unmoving, I felt another Projectile strike my back, pain lit up but quickly went away.

"We done struggling? Good, finish him."

Then pain, the worst pain i had ever felt bashed into me from all sides. As if the box i was in closed in and decided to crush me.

Like any normal person, I cried out for help, giving in to the urge to cry for help:

"Anyone!" I shrilled the moment the burning hit me, Please! Amber!! Amber!! Necozma I don't CARE!"

"Thats why you are being replaced," The voice replied, my screams muffling under a veil of golden light, "You don't care who you help or who helps you, as long as you get your way."

My screams only grew louder, the veil was doing its job, muffling my screams as pain jested through me like a thousand claws all digging into me at once, and sending me to eternal damnation.

I couldn't hear the souls inside, they either were silent or were already gone. The one time I had my head to myself and it was the worst moment of my life.

The last thing i saw was a small ball of light, the one I had trusted, the one that brought me here, "Fate and destiny are funny things, you can do nothing about what it hold for you."

Then as everything, my life, my memories, my soul, all faded to black it spoke again, "No matter what your destiny, your fate, your dream is, you cannot escape the wrath of something greater."

This prompt was where my ideas for a full fledged fic for these two began. Tons of inspirations from games I've played and books I've read. This prompt is where everything stemmed.
