ENTRY 8
FEAR THYSELF

"That movie sucked!" Bella laughed as she and her boyfriend exited the theater as she wiped tears from her eyes.

"I told you not to pick it. Especially not on Halloween." Edward smiled down at her as she gasped and swatted his arm playfully, ignoring the constant chill that followed as he kissed her knuckles.

"The trailer looked interesting! You know I can't resist vampires." She laughed again as she tripped over nothing, making Edward stumble as well until they both laughed. "Like I said it looked good but wow I wasn't expecting that. He sparkled, Edward! The vampire sparkled! His teeth weren't even sharp and at the end, he tries to kill himself by stepping into sunlight. Like why? He was already sparkling?" Bella commented as Edward kept smiling but it didn't meet his eyes. "Hey what's wrong?" She asked as he shrugged and shifted his jacket off and hung it near the door of her apartment.

"The movie was bad but I actually felt bad for the vampire. I mean he couldn't be with the love of his life. She didn't accept him. That must be heartbreaking." He mumbled as she turned and he refused to look at her as she smiled softly.

"Hey...look at me. I know it's heartbreaking. I mean he was her partner. He was a vampire sure, but it's not like he would hurt her. She should have accepted him, he was the same person." Bella huffed as she snuggled closer to his side and he grinned.

"It does beg the question though." He smirked although the worry didn't leave his eyes. "What if…I was a vampire? You know? What if I ate people to survive?" He said nervously as she turned and gave him an incredulous look. How could her sweet, dorky, librarian boyfriend be a vampire? She just couldn't picture it. Then again ever since she suggested seeing the vampire horror romance, he's been squirrely. Especially on their Halloween date night. Bella loved vampires but she didn't think he would mind this one too much, especially since it had a happy ending. They got back together even though she was turned in a horrible accident. Maybe that's why he was worried.

"I would still love you even if you were a vampire, Edward." She said as she kissed his lips and he smiled, relieved. "Would you love me if I was a werewolf?" she joked as he made a face.

"Eh, yes but you would smell bad." He said with a straight face.

"Oh my gosh, well I'll shower so I won't stink." She rolled her eyes. "Speaking of showering, want to stay the night? It's the start of the weekend and after that movie I might be scared."

"Oh yeah, you're terrified." He deadpanned as he sat on the couch, and she jumped on the cushion next to him.

"Seriously, why don't you spend the night? It's thundering out there and I don't want you driving in that." She said worriedly as a crack of thunder hit that made her jump.

"I'll be fine love, I've driven in worse." Edward smiled as she looked out the window, the rain was heavy and the clouds dark she could barely see the trees.

"Still…. why not wait until it lets up at least? Please? For me? It would ease some of my anxiety." Bella pleaded as Edward sighed.

"I don't know if I can. Remember I have that hunting trip with my brothers and we have to leave pretty early."

"I know but still….how about I drop you off early tomorrow that way you can still prepare and you won't have to worry about driving?" Bella said hopefully as his smile softened.

"Okay, I can see you're really worried about this. I'll stay over and wait it out – how about we watch that movie with the teenagers who bring the old ladies back from the dead with the talking cat?" He offered as she laughed.

"Are you talking about Hocus Pocus?" She laughed as he rolled his eyes and they both snuggled together on the couch. The rest of the night followed with more Halloween movies until Bella dozed. Images of Edward as a vampire filled her head as his red eyes looked at her with blood smeared on his mouth. She woke up with a start as a clap of thunder startled her awake and she breathed hard. The couch was cold but there was a blanket thrown over her and she looked around her darkened apartment for Edward.

"Edward?" she whispered as she padded off the couch, her footsteps barely making a sound on the floorboard. Shivering she turned on the kitchen light, but it fizzled out and she scratched her head. Where was he?

Suddenly the window flew open with the force of the wind and she jumped and swallowed down her fear as she closed it however the figure below startled her. It was the homeless man that sometimes lurked near her apartment. She had seen him roaming around but what startled her more was Edward. Her sweet, loving boyfriend was bending at the waist. The homeless man's eyes were glassy with death as Edward sucked at his neck.

Bella froze as her eyes widened and took a step back before her foot caught on something and she gasped. Edward's black eyes met hers as she gasped awake and her hand flew to her neck.

She breathed hard as she looked wildly around her darkened apartment and the duvet that was covering her felt far too weighted. Hands shaking she put her hands on her head as she looked around and Edward was nowhere to be found.

"Edward?" She called as, like her nightmare, she padded off the couch but instead of her boyfriend feeding on some unsuspecting human, he came out of the bathroom with the flush of the toilet behind him.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to wake you." He said sheepishly as Bella sighed a breath of relief and threw herself at him. "Are you alright love?" He asked confused as Bella breathed in his cologne and smiled, her racing heart slowing down at the sight of his green eyes.

"I'm okay, just had a bit of a bad dream." She whispered as she took his cold hand and led them both to bed.

"Want to talk about it?" He offered as they both got under the covers.

"Nah, it was just a dream. I think the movie got to me a little." She laughed as they both went to sleep. No more nightmares to be had and the morning sun was a welcome sight as the couple moved about the house as promised Bella dropped him off at his apartment and made the drive back home. Music blasted as she sang along to the radio before making her way to the complex, she was startled by the number of police cars there were.

Curious she looked over but the amount of tape and policemen blocked her view. By the time she made it upstairs the window was open and padding over she looked down and gasped at what she saw, the keys dropping loudly from her hand.

The homeless man she saw in her dream. Pale and an expression of terror on his ashen face as one policeman covered him in a white cloth, a perfectly clear view of a bite mark on his neck before Bella heard a creak behind her and her world went black.
