One month later, six months left.
Let me give you the rundown. I have been on bed rest since I ran away all those weeks ago, and Nick got permission to work from home and do desk work for the following year. I am allowed to go for one 30-minute walk a day, and I am not allowed to go up and down stairs without someone with me. For the 30-minute walk, I got Nick to let me do it in 15-minute parts, so I get to go outside two times a day, or if I want to sit outside, he will let me. He is always beside me in our room, working and keeping an eye on me, and if McCoy is home, then he is in our room watching TV or playing a game. McCoy loves board games, as do I. Nick, not so much, but he will play along to make his two favorite mammals happy.
I have been able to hear my human family once a month now, and Nick has been looking worried. I do not blame him. I do not want to leave him, and McCoy also has dreams. He keeps telling me that Luke won't let the vets kill me and that he knows that he and I can't wake up without the other. If one dies, then we both die. I could not help but think that is why I love Luke so much. Such a sweet guy.
I am in the kitchen eating my lunch while Nick and Judy meet daily about cases and reports. I usually do not listen in, but I heard something that made me want to listen. I heard something about a portal and how they can see through its other dimensions and how they will try bringing objects soon. I smiled and thought that was so cool and continued to eat my sandwich, and normally, by the time I was done eating, so was Nick, but not today, and I had to go to the bathroom, so I got up slowly and started to walk to the bathroom. About halfway there, I remembered why I needed someone with me. I got so dizzy and had enough strength and thought process left to walk and sit on a chair. I then yelled for Nick, and he came running and told him what I tried to do.
Nick said Mate remember what the doctor said. You are not allowed to walk without someone beside you because you are not strong enough without some help. Yes, I know, I said, but it is so hard letting you or Judy help me when I am so used to doing things independently.
Nick sighed, put his hand on my forehead, and said, "Have you drank enough water today? You feel a little warm, your eyes are not as bright, and you almost fell, which you normally do not do unless you have drunk enough water.
I smiled at him and said stop mothering me. I am fine and besides, don't I have a doctor's apartment tomorrow, and we can talk to the doctor about me getting hot and not start getting tired while walking and dizzy.
Yes, you do, but… Nick stopped talking and rubbed his head against my neck and chin, bent down to rub my stomach, and said most vixens do not go through this when they are expecting a pup, so this is not very normal, and I am worried that you will get sick and leave me. How will I know if you die or if you are going back to the other universe?
I said why don't we sit on the couch? I want a glass of water as well. Can you get me some, please? I asked Nick.
Like always, when I ask him to do something, he smiles at me, rubs my chin, and goes and does it.
When he put me on the couch and got me a glass of water, I said. I am pretty sure I fade when I go to the other universe; if I die, I will die. Like my body will stay here, but when I go back to my universe, then it will be like I was never here when it comes to my body.
But your memory of this place and mine with you will still be here? Asked Nick. I said Nick; you already know this. I smiled at him, but I was looking at him, worried. Nick, does this have anything to do with that portal to different universes? He looked at me at first like he was angry, but as the second went by, Nick looked at me and said my little mate, you heard me talking to Judy? I smiled and said I am a vixen and a sneaky one, so I might as well use it.
Nick smiled and said, well, they found your universe and you and your body. The same with McCoy. I looked down at him and said see; I was nothing like you. I am more pretty now than I was as a human, and my life is much better.
Nick looked at me like he was mad at me, and he said to never say that about myself again, even if I am talking about my human self. I said ok
Nick then said for the other pictures I have seen of humans, you are the best-looking one, and McCoy is the best-looking four-legged creature. I smiled and tried to jump and wrap around him, but while doing that, I ended up landing in Nick's arms. He shook his head and said, " Sno, my mate, till the end of time, I will never stop loving you even if you go back to your universe. I will come looking for you if I have to and bring you back, or I will go live there.
I looked at him and told him to promise me that he would never, and I MEAN NEVER COME LOOKING FOR ME IF I LEAVE. If I leave, I will leave our pup, and he will need someone to take care of him. YOU WILL PROMISE ME THAT YOU WILL NEVER GO LOOKING FOR ME. I saw Nick's eyes while I was saying that, and he wanted to say no, but I then said Nick, my mate, till the end of time, please promise me this?
Nick then said for you, my mate, anything.
Nick sat down on the couch with me on his lap and said, " Sleep, mate; I will be here to watch over you. Nick will find me, and when he does, will I be able to live with the knowledge that he came all this was to bring me back home. I nuzzled his neck and said my favorite protective fox. I heard him laugh lightly, but while falling asleep, I could not stop thinking that what Nick had just promised me would go out the window when or if I left.
