Authors note:

Happy New Year everyone! 🎆🎊

Sooo... I added a little tidbit of Xavier/Moira at the end, it just felt like the right way to end the chapter, I apologize for the long wait, I've been busy with my 3-month-old son and other regular stress of life.

Don't worry about the next chapter, it's coming, been working on the next chapter to, it might be a little while before that one's submitted, but I am working on it.

That night:

Ororo woke to a thud, she looked around the room, there was nothing there that she could see. Then a sound caught her attention, it was a grunt. She quickly looked to her side seeing that her mate wasn't there, she then got out of the bed going to the other side. She was surprised to see him, laying on his side in a fetal position, on the floor, claws fully drawn, grimacing and wincing in pain. "Logan!" She gasped as she landed on her knees next to him, he was shaking. "What happened?" She asked panicked. "I… Don't… Know… RAH!" "Can you move?" she asked, he adjusted himself slightly, then put his hand on the floor trying to push himself up. "Ahh!" He yelped as he fell back down. "N-no." He said painfully, Ororo got up manipulating the air in the room causing the wind to pick him up cradling him, she carefully put him back on the bed. Then turned running to Hank's room.

BANG – BANG – BANG – BANG – BANG!

"HANK! HANK!" She yelled banging on his door as hard as she could, a moment later the door swung open. "What is it?" He asked urgency in his voice. "It's Logan." She said back, starting to run back toward their room, Hank followed close behind. Getting to the door Hank was shocked at Logan's condition. He looked like a normal human would look if they'd just been bitten by an extremely venomous snake. "Good God, what has happened to you Logan!?" "Don't… Know…" He tried to respond back to him, then winced again trying to cradle himself. Hank got some equipment ready, whatever was going on was NOT normal. Ororo stood by her husband watching in agony as he suffered in whatever this was. "Ororo, get Jean!"

In a second she was down the hall, getting to her room she banged on the door loudly. "Jean! Jean wake up!" A second later her door opened, she yawned sleepily. "What is it Storm?" She asked, "Something happened to Logan…" "What-" But before she could finish her question Ororo was dragging her down the hall to the lab. "Oh My God!" She said shocked as she saw him. "Come in Jean." Hank said as he got some of his instruments ready. "What happened to him?" "We don't know." Hank responded, Storm touched his shoulder trying to comfort him, he looked to her, with almost fear in his eyes. She rubbed his arm not wanting him to feel this, any of this. Sticking a syringe into his arm to draw some blood Logan lurched up from the table slightly. "Hold on man, I have to draw some blood to see what's going on with you."

Jean did her best to put telekinetic restraints on him, though she struggled to hold him down. After about eight seconds Hank was finished and took the syringe out of his skin, immediately he put some blood from the tube into a little platelet putting it under a microscope. Time passed agonizingly slow as they waited for the results. Feeling that he was starting to burn up Ororo cooled the temperature in the room. "Not too cold Ororo, I can't see the results properly if the temperature changes too much." He didn't know if she heard him as her eyes never left her lover.

She didn't notice the person beside them till there was a very concerned "Mom!?" That jerked her concentration away from him for a moment, she looked to her side to see their eldest daughter Jessica looking between her mother and father worried. Logan seeing her did the best he could to hide his pain.

"Hey kid." He said controlling his breathing and movement. "What happened to you dad?" She asked panicked, he didn't know what to say, he couldn't pretend everything was fine, the sweat dripping off his face shouted otherwise. "I… don't know." He finally said, Ororo put her hand on his chest in a signal to let her handle the kids, he gave her a half smile as he tried to relax to whatever degree that he could at the moment.

"Jessica, I need you to make sure your siblings don't come in here." This just made her more nervous, "What's going on mom, what happened to dad?" "I don't know!" She unintentionally snapped back startling the other girl and causing thunder to crash and rumble on outside, Ororo may not have wanted her to know how serious the whole ordeal was, but her tone told her exactly how bad it was. Without any more argument or questioning she nodded understanding.

The young girl went to go out and tend to her siblings, however she'd been so focused on her mother's words that she hadn't noticed her seven-year-old little sister Kendall who was to her left and watching her mom and dad sit there… "Daddy?" she asked concerned, her mother's head turned to her, "Go to your room Kendall." Ororo instructed her, she didn't move just looked at her. "What's wrong with daddy?" she asked, "Nothing baby just go!" She told her doing her best to control her emotions, "No mommy!" she objected, Ororo did her best, but her emotions mixed, her fear and anger rose a little as her mind was too full at the moment, occupied by worry, love, and fear. She heaved a sigh letting some of the stress out as much as she could before responding, but she was beaten to the punch as her sister came in and picked her up from behind. "Put me down!" Kendall almost shouted as she was carried out.

The time they waited for the results from his blood test seemed like forever, then finally Hank came back to them. "I… I couldn't really find anything…" Ororo got up off of the side of the bed that Logan was lying on, looking at the Doctor confused. "What do you mean?" she asked, he met her gaze with almost the same look. "Its, almost like his nervous system is attacking itself…" He continued; she was caught off guard with that one. "What!? It cannot be that!" "I know Ororo, I have a hard time believing that as well, but it's the only explanation. I've been looking in the samples to see if there's anything even slightly abnormal and I can't find anything…" "Look harder!" She ordered him, he didn't argue, the look on her face said that she was in no mood to discuss it, and there would not be no explanation…

Morning: Hank had given the man a sedative to help his pain. They'd been in the lab all night trying to find the source of this attacker, so far they'd found nothing, nothing that they could do yet anyway. "It's like he was hit with some type of venom, but nothing like it has ever been documented, you could imagine how powerful it would have to be in order to affect Logan like this." Beast said looking in his microscope, Ororo just sat there in the chair next to Logan trying to help him through this if nothing else psychologically, at least he would know that he wasn't alone in this.

"Do you have any idea what it is?" Jean asked, Beast looked at the cells of it again examining it, he sighed and wiped his hand across his forehead stressed some. Jean nodded looking toward the couple, Ororo looked back to her worriedly holding her husband's hand rubbing the top of it. Logan was still shaking from the affect it had on him, eyes partially open, face in a grimace of discontent and agony. "Isn't there anything else we can do to at least make him more comfortable?" Ororo asked desperately, Hank looked toward him, leaving his equipment behind for a moment walking to the two. Looking him over and seeing how much pain he was in pulled at him.

He hated seeing people suffer, especially his friends, and this affected both of them very deeply. He frowned feeling sorry for him. "I could sedate him again, but I don't want to overdo it." "He's Logan, you can't overdo him!" Ororo suddenly found herself indignant at her friend to think that her man could handle this and more. "He's a man the same as Scott is, can you overdo him?!" Jean realized she'd spoken out of turn, and she huffed out for a moment, "I'm sorry Storm, I just don't like seeing him suffer either, you know how I am." She knew that her friend meant well, but that didn't stop her from being ticked off, it was her mate that she was talking about anyway, and she knew the redhead would say the same thing if she spoke that way about Scott."

"If I was to make the wrong move on a regular patient, it could hurt them, or worse." The two ladies in the room took a deep breath in exhaling slowly. Hank closed his eyes sighing audibly. "I will do some more research on what this could be. When I find anything more I will make sure that you know about it first thing." Ororo just looked to him, then put her face on Logan's elbow, rubbing her cheek against his forearm hey did all that they could then, and hoped for the best.

*Ring – ring – ring – ring* "Hello Hank… what's going on… what's happening?... What?!... I understand, thank you Hank." He hung up the phone and turned back to the woman whose house he was in. "I'm very sorry, something has come up, I must leave immediately." "You cannot stay for even a wee bit longer?" Moira, his Irish girlfriend that he'd leave frequently to see asked him with a hint of seduction in her expression and voice. He felt a tug in his pants but pushed it down, he knew he had to go, but he'd be damned if he didn't think that was one sexy woman on the couch looking at him tenderly. "I would love nothing more than to stay one more day my love, but there's been an emergency… I must go now." "Maybe next time I could come ta you next time instead of you always comin' ta me."

He smiled at that suggestion, as much as he liked that idea he knew how dangerous it was, her being an Irish native and not knowing the ways of New Yorkers, and the way that some of them hated mutants and anyone who associated with them, of course there were people that thought the same way where she lived, but it was dulled a lot compared to some places in America. "That would be lovely my dear, but you must be careful-" "I know Charles!" She said interrupting him, as they went to her car.

She'd heard the spiel a hundred times and she was getting tired of it. "You think that I haven't been in dangerous situations myself? Remember when you visited three times ago and found me in the countryside." Oh he remembered, she was in the countryside with three men who'd decided they didn't like her for reasons that Charles or anyone from the institute didn't understand. However, Charles had picked up her situation and before anything was able to happen the three men were face to face with their worst nightmares and ran away faster than they thought possible, though she was adamant about being able to take care of herself he could sense that she was thankful for his intervention.

They were just about to the airstrip, "I know, you had the situation under control…" He gave her a side look with a slight smile and raised eyebrow, she smiled at him knowing that he knew her thoughts. "Just let me know when you come so I can be ready." "And by ready you mean ta protect me don't ya Charles." "If I must." He replied as he looked to her almost expectantly. "Slán mo ghrá." She said as her boyfriend wheeled himself into the plane. "I'll see you soon Moira." She stayed watching as he put his headset on, taxied out and took off.
