After that evening somehow there was an even closer bond between the two. They already could sense when the other needed them, but now it was almost like they could sense exactly what the other was doing. The Professor and Hank had scheduled Logan for a regular check up every so often, if it wasn't for the people he loved his wife and children specifically he would refuse any assistance from people like that, but alas the saying is true... love makes you do some strange things.
Logan was on his way to the med lab for his appointment, coming around the corner he bumped into Ororo who was walking in the opposite direction.
"Hey Darlin'." He greeted her
"Hello love." She greeted back, they walked in silence to the same place.
"Ah, right on schedule, how are you feeling Logan?" He asked ignoring the annoyed look on the other mans face as he responded.
"As good as can be." Logan answered him.
"That's good, now let's see if your condition has improved." The Professor piped in smiling.
"Sit down." Hank told the other man who did accordingly.
Hank found a good vein, tied off the arm and drew some blood, then put some gauze on the location and taped it down. It was weird, getting used to the makeshift Band-Aid that now had to be made for the once self-healing mutant. Ororo at the same time felt the same thing he was feeling, the wondering what had gone wrong, why he had been punished in such a way. At the same time, he felt the love from everyone there that were doing their best to see him through this... He felt just as little Ayotunde had said. Pampered.
She almost wanted to chuckle at the feelings she got from him, but at the same time she knew it wasn't the right time or place to do that. The Professor looked at her understanding her thoughts. Was it some sort of telepathic connection that they had? Were their powers growing still even now?
"Yes Ororo," Xavier stated distracting her from her thoughts, she looked at him with a question written on her expression, at which he smiled.
"Your powers are always growing, even when you're well past your prime, there's no telling when they start or stop. And as for your connection with each other," At that Logan also lifted his head to look at the disabled man, Charles looked to the wall for a moment then brought his hands to his chin and continued.
"You two have one of the best and closest relationships I've ever seen... and I hope that whenever I remarry our relationship will be as good as yours is." He paused before going on.
"You have built a psychic connection with each other, not many people can do that, but it seems that some can." The two looked at each other, psychic connection? That didn't seem probable, it would if it were Scott and Jean, they talked to each other like that all the time, but she already had that ability.
"But that doesn't seem possible, I mean I know that Jean and Scott have psychic connection, but that's one of her powers that she had already, it doesn't seem like me and Logan could have that..." Ororo explained
"Yeah what's with that?" Logan asked still looking unsure at the other man.
"It seems like a barrier between the two of you has been passed, and it makes you even closer than you were before." She smiled at his words.
"Perhaps the cause is the fact that you've become more protective of your husband than you had been before Ororo, and you Logan have become more aware of your need for your wife and everyone else here."
At his last words Logan's face drooped slightly knowing it was true, not that he didn't love everyone there, he just had a hard time like any man admitting that he needed anything.
"You are still a stronghold by yourself my friend... but we must remember that we are all stronger together, no matter who we are, there is no strength like that of a well built team of people who care for each other like we do." He looked to all of them and his heart was suddenly filled with such pride.
It was his dream, everyone working together for the good of all, helping those who needed it most. Which right now was the toughest mutant that they had, but he'd made so much progress with them. He went from being closed to the world and having a spikey unapproachable exterior to being a member of their family that they made there, even having a family of his own, and not being afraid to hide his true self from everyone like he had been before.
The Professor was so proud of himself and his team, he'd hoped for so long that it would work, and he knew it would but at the same time he was scared that it wouldn't. He was glad that his fear was wrong, and it was all worth it in the end, there were many times that no one really knew about except maybe Jean and Moira where he threw a tantrum inside himself about how unlikely it was for it to work.
What if Magneto was right? What if it wouldn't work, if it wasn't worth it... If humans and mutants were pinned against each other so much that it was impossible to work. No, it was always worth it, even if it didn't work. His students helped him keep his hopes up, especially Jean and Ororo, they seemed to be able to sense whenever he needed assurance and gave it to him accordingly, Logan and Scott were very helpful in their own way as well as they took some of his burden so he didn't carry all the weight of this. He was pulled from his thoughts as Hank's words rang in his ears.
"Apologies Henry, what was that?" He asked the blue mutant looked at him and repeated himself.
"It's like the Proverb says, "a three stranded chord is not easily broken."" Hank repeated himself with a smile, the Professor nodded smiling.
"You are very right Hank, and "two are better than one," regardless of what the problem is we can all get through it if we go in together supporting each other like the family we've made." He said again, they all smiled, Logan's was more of a side smile though. After the blue mutant had put some of his blood on the glass and started the inspection of it.
The couple left the room and went to their respective tasks. He was scheduled for a training session on the grounds with the other students, Ororo was to hold a class with the younger students as well.
An hour Later:
Ororo was scheduled for a class with the younger students, to her it seemed like it was over too soon, teaching wasn't her favorite thing to do, but it was something that she enjoyed, especially if it was for people that she loved like these kids. Yeah sure some of them were a pain in the ass, but they were still worth it, some day they would be on the forefront fighting for the things that her and the others were this very moment.
"Mrs. Howlett?" One of the youngest ones in her class got her attention, she looked down to her pupil, her head came to the woman's abdomen,
"Yes child?" She asked looking down to her,
"You talked about how our powers are growing and all, but... I was just wondering..." Ororo waited for the kid to finish her question,
"Can our powers change?"
"Yes, they often do overtime, it is hard to see at first, but when they do you'll notice." She smiled as she finished her answer, the kid looked a bit unsure at first but then came to the conclusion that she was right and started walking out the door.
Getting all the papers and stuff together she graded the kids work, and went to the Professors office. Getting there she was surprised to see Scott there already.
"Well you're done early." she said to her younger friend, he turned to her and smiled,
"Hey Storm, all the kids picked up really fast today, so we were finished about ten minutes before class was supposed to be out." She was happy hearing the news as was the Professor, except for one minor detail.
"All cause of that guy." Scott said nodding his head out the window, there was a boy about 13 outside playing ball with his friends.
"What do you mean?" Ororo asked confused.
"His powers are the ability to take one persons skill and give it to everyone around him, so when he comes across someone who has enhanced learning skills he can mimic that gift and multiply it, thus giving it to those around him, intentionally and unintentionally." Charles input watching the kids play with his prized pupils.
"So you're saying he's got a lot more to learn." Scott said turning toward his teacher.
"Yes and fast, we don't know what lies ahead for us, if we handle things the wrong way it could mean the downfall of everything."
"Don't worry Professor, I'll get him good and trained pretty soon, I won't let you down." The younger man replied, to which his mentor smiled to him.
"I know you won't, you're a brave young man Summers, but do not let that youth get to your head, you know much but not all, there is still much to learn from those around you, don't ever close your mind to that... even I am still learning at my age." Not too sure how to take that advice he simply replied with a -
"Uh, yeah, sure Professor."
and walked out of the room and on to his next destination, Xavier turned seeing the woman he'd unofficially adopted as a daughter all those years ago.
"Thank you Ororo." He said to her getting the papers from her, she smiled and nodded.
"Charles, if that boy has the ability to transfer our powers, then couldn't he transfer Logan's healing factor back to him like that? I mean, our children have the same powers as he does, and Laura is an exact match... He could fully recover that way!" The older mans face lit up for a moment as well.
"Yes, that could work." He said smiling back at her, she beamed suddenly, he reviewed the grades and such, gave his input and gave them back to her. She took them and went back to the room. Her mind was calming at the thought of him being able to get his healing factor back, maybe it'd be even stronger than it was before. You never know how these things are going to work after all.
Going outside to join the kids she saw a group of them including the one boy that her and her mentor had been talking about minutes before, they were playing with the frisbee. She walked a little pass them and could see some of the teams that Logan was supervising coming out of the woods. Laura and her team were the first ones to come out, they were high-fiving each other and panting slightly.
"Good job team!" She said as she straightened up and looked at their time on her stopwatch.
"We shaved a whole 10 seconds off from last time." She announced to the others.
"Woo..." One of the boys said bent over catching his breath and doing a mock chear with his fist.
One of the other teams came out, and a few seconds after that Logan and his team, they would've been the first to come out just over year ago, but even before Logan's healing factor left him, his clone/daughter had been jousting for position with him in their everyday activities. He didn't like being challanged, but the fact that it was his child softened his view of it so he didn't exactly see it as a competition but more of his daughter growing into her britches as people from his time would say.
Kitty and Jessie were right next to Clark who was one of the new recruits and was just catching his breath. Logan was just outside the woods, he'd just limped to a big stone and sat on it.
"You ok Logan?" Scott asked who'd gotten out there a few minutes.
"Yeah, I'm fine." He said back, brushing the question off,
"You sure you don't need anything?"
"Did I ask you to stand around and waste my time by asking stupid questions Cyke?" He asked the younger mutant, looking him irritated in the eye Scott sighed.
"No." The laser eyed mutant responded, looking to the side knowing it was futile to anger the other mutant more. He walked away toward the mansion, seeing Hank and Storm coming out he stopped when he was near them.
"Beast, Storm." He greeted them, they greeted him back.
"You guys want to talk some sense into Logan?" He asked glancing over to the subborn man, the two other's looked to him as well.
"What happened?" Ororo asked quickly.
"He's denying reality." He said with a slight bite in his tone.
"How exactly is he doing that?" She asked back, Scott thought for a moment realizing he just stepped into dangerous territory, but he couldn't back out now.
"He's in pain and... he won't face it." He said, as the thought she would the dark skinned woman made her way over to him.
"I didn't mean to worry her..." He said out loud, adjusting his hair in awkwardness.
"I know you didn't, we all mean well." He reassured him putting a big hand on his shoulder, Scott looked to him smiling, he then turned joining a few of the other kids.
Seeing her walk toward him he wasn't sure what to say, he knew that she could read him just as well as he could read her so she knew what he was feeling inside and out. He turned his face to the ground and awaited her arrival.
"I see you lost to Laura again." She said going completely under all his defenses, that made him smirk.
"Kid's takin' her role more seriously than I thought she would." He said back looking to the young girl who'd joined the frisbee game with her team.
"Almost as serious as you do." She looked at the kid as well.
"You think so?" She looked back to him.
"Yes she does."
They sat there in silence for the next couple minutes, just watching everyone do their thing. The quiet around the grounds even though the kids were playing to their hearts content now was a peaceful heart warming quiet. It was about five minutes later when Ororo broke the silence.
"How was the race?" He stayed quiet for a few seconds enjoying the mood around them.
"Nothin' new, just the same ole' obstacles and stuff." He responded, then rubbed his leg where it was sore.
"How's your leg?" She asked knowing he wasn't telling her something, he stopped for a moment then contnued.
"It's fine, cramped up during the run's all." He said still rubbing it out.
"That hindered your placing didn't it." She asked slightly entertained.
"Yeah." He answered flatly, she at there with him for a while before they got up and went about the rest of their day.
