Chapter 2: Chris's First Friend.

It hadn't taken Sonic long to reach Station Square, the blustering city that was mainly populated by humans, but it had occasional Mobians visiting and even some began living here. The city had tons of lights and casinos, beaches, quite close to the Mystic Ruins where Tails lived, and it wasn't fair from their village. Normally Sonic loved coming here despite being a lover for nature, but tonight was different.

Skidding a stop before he would end up face-planting himself into the automatic glass doors of the General hospital, the blue hedgehog then hurried inside once they opened and went over to the nearest doctors who were chatting and just finishing up on seeing to other patients needed treatment, until the two men, one with dark hair and another with blonde hair, noticed the heroic hedgehog and approached him in surprise.

"Sonic the Hedgehog?" The two doctors muttered in awe, never having expected to see the teenage hero come in, but then noticed he had a young boy in his arms, unconscious and it raised alarm bells in their minds.

"'Cuse me, but can you help me, please?" Sonic immediately said as the two medical doctors approached. "This kid might need treatment right away."

"Uh, of course, Mr. Sonic." The dark-haired doctor replied, while his co-worker called out for the stretcher and emergency department, before asking. "Who is this young man?"

"I dunno, but right now he needs help. I'm worried about him." The blue hedgehog replied.

"Alright. We'll see what we can do." The doctor promised.

The next thing happened was the boy placed carefully on the medical bed and taken for treatment just in case, while Sonic was told to wait in the waiting room. The teenage hedgehog wanted to take the kid home to rest, but decided that the boy might be more comfortable in a nicer human environment. That didn't mean the hero of Mobius liked hospitals himself. So he sat on one of the chairs, kicking back as he waited, worried half to death about Chris.

All the while, he wondered where the boy had come from and why Eggman's machine had brought him from wherever the kid was to the base. The blue hedgehog just hoped that he would be able to get answers soon and help the poor kid, feeling guilty for being responsible for the accidental kidnapping. He was going to make it up to Chris by taking him back to his parents...

At least that's what Sonic thought he could do.

An hour later...

Yawning as it had been such a long day, and having received a call from Tails about fifteen minutes ago with a report that Cream and Cheese were safely back home with the little six year old's mother Vanilla who was ever grateful for the group's heroic deeds, and that the two-tailed fox and Amy, both exhausted from the rescue operation, were welcomed to spend the night at the kind family's home, Sonic would've dozed off, but he wanted to stay awake to hear about how the kid was doing.

Still, he was so tired, and while he could sleep just anywhere, he would've preferred to be somewhere else outside or in his house. Plus, hospitals always smelled and felt weird. It made him feel uncomfortable.

"Sonic the Hedgehog?"

"Hm?" Sonic opened one eye, to see the same doctor he'd spoken to earlier and immediately stood up, asking. "How is he?"

"You can be assured that the boy is perfectly fine. Possibly just knocked out from what happened. His readings are normal, and he should be able to return home soon. He's still sleeping right now, so I suggest we wait until morning to call his parents to come and pick him up." The doctor responded.

The blue hedgehog sighed in relief. "Thanks a bunch, doctor. I was worried sick for the poor kid."

"It's a good thing you found him when you did, or who knows what would have happened. Which reminds me. What did happen? How did you come across the boy?" The doctor asked.

"Uh...Let's just say he somehow got involved with Eggman's usual schemes while me and my friends were stopping him and rescuing Cream and Cheese. Ya' can blame his dumb machine, whatever it was, trying to use the Chaos Emeralds again." Sonic shrugged sheepishly, as he still hasn't managed to figure that one out either. "There was a huge light show that happened when the machine got busted up, and the next thing we know, that kid got there and I think it was due to the badly timed Chaos Control."

The human man hummed thoughtfully over Sonic's explanation. "Hmmm...I see. So Dr. Eggman was behind the young man's condition. What could have caused it?"

"You got me. I have no idea where the kid came from, so when he wakes up tomorrow, I'm gonna help him find his folks to make up for getting him accidentally involved." The blue hedgehog replied, just as clueless as the guy was.

"That would be very wise. But I do suggest you be cautious with this Chaos Control in the future, Sonic. I'm not an expert on it, but as the legend says, their powers are always unpredictable." The doctor advised.

Sonic sighed with a shrug and a sweat drop, grumbling under his breath. "Tell that to Eggman."

'Ooooh...W-what happened?' Chris thought to himself, as he began to regain consciousness, feeling like he had been on a rough ride. His memories were vague, and he felt like he was tossed around in a washing machine, which made no sense.

As he began to open his eyes, he winced at the brightness of the light, holding a hand over his face to shield them, before the twelve year old boy's vision began to clear up, his memory of what happened came back to him. Awareness returning, he found, to his surprise and shock, he was in a hospital room on one of those uncomfortable beds, the heart monitor giving out the annoying beeping sound.

"Huh?" Chris blinked, sitting up quickly as he looked around his surroundings. The room was very private, and it had a large single window which viewed a strangely unfamiliar part of what he thought was New York, the city lights were on, the sky was dark and the moon was still out. "Where am I? How did I end up here?"

As the young Thorndyke thought back on what happened, his eyes widened as he remembered; he was running away from home, hiding from the police to avoid in being found and taken back to his horrible family, then there was the strange unusual light that engulfed him, and then...nothing. He couldn't remember anything else. But given the evidence of the hospital, he groaned as he sudden realization came to him. He must have passed out, somebody found him and took him here.

"Oh, great." Chris complained as he laid back in bed. "So much for my escape plan. Now the doctors here are gonna contact my parents and grandpa, if they're not already here in the waiting room to come take me back home and then it's back to that horrible, miserable life of not being allowed to be me."

He was so close, and yet that strange light pretty much ruined his escapee. The twelve year old boy sighed again, resigning himself to spend the rest of his life being miserable. He might as well be a robot.

"Ah, you're awake, I see." An unfamiliar man's voice spoke up, making the young boy to look up and see a blonde-haired man approach through the doorway, wearing a white coat with a clipboard and a pen. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm okay. Just kind of tired." Chris replied, sighing. Even though he already thought he knew what happened, it didn't hurt to ask anyway and grumble at whoever it was that saved him. "What happened?"

"Well, we were hoping you would tell us, young man. You were unconscious when Sonic carried here you. It's a good thing he did, being the fast hero and all." The doctor replied.

The boy blinked in confusion over the unfamiliar name. "Huh? Who's Sonic?"

The older man was surprised to hear this. "You don't know? Sonic the Hedgehog, the hero of Mobius. That young boy is famous for most parts of the planet."

"...Sonic the Hedgehog? Mobius?" Chris was dumbfounded now. Who was Sonic the Hedgehog? Was this some kind of a movie set trick his Mom set up and he was unknowingly supposed to play the main role? He never heard of any Sonic the Hedgehog before, even though hedgehogs were known as cute but prickly critters. And what, where or who was Mobius?

"Hmmm...I think we're going to have to go through a few sessions, even though you didn't receive any injuries to the head." The doctor said, now frowning in concern.

"Or I'm hallucinating and everything I'm hearing is making me all crazy and I'm having some sort of weird dream." The twelve year old suggested, placing a hand to his head.

"You seem to be hearing just fine to me." The doctor pointed out, before asking. "Okay, let's start of with a few simple questions. Can you tell me your name?"

"My name's Christopher Thorndyke, I call myself Chris." Chris replied. "I'm the son of the famous Thorndyke Industrial Company execute Nelson Thorndyke and the famous movie actress Lindsey Fair, and the grandson of the famous scientist Professor Charles Thorndyke. I'm just not sure which part of New York I'm in right now, though."

The doctor remained silent on this, before saying. "Um...I think you may want to try again, young man. There are no companies such as the Thorndyke Industrial, and no one has ever heard of your family at all. And there is no such place as New York."

"Huh? What do you mean? I was born and grew up in New York City! You know, in United States of America? On Earth?" The boy pointed out.

"Son, there are no such places. You are in Station Square of the United Federation of Soumerca, and while yes the world is occasionally called Earth, it's other name is mostly Mobius." The doctor said.

"What!? But...I know that I..." Chris began to protest.

Seeing how this boy wasn't making any sense and coming to a conclusion, the doctor then said. "I think we need to run some scans again in the morning. You may have suffered a brain trauma despite being in good health, except you are suffering with a memory loss-lapse and hallucination. Meaning you may have dreamed up a false life."

'False life? Brain trauma, memory loss-lapse and hallucination? That doesn't make any sense at all!' The thought to himself.

"I'll talk to my colleagues about this. Please wait here and get some rest." The older man advised, before walking out of the room and closed the door behind him, leaving the bewildered twelve year old boy to his thoughts.

So far everything he's heard is just too weird. He knew for the fact that he hasn't dreamed up everything about his life. He was born and grew up in New York City. Chris never heard of Mobius or Station Square. Was he having some kind of dream? Or maybe he really did live a false life and he's been in a coma and his real memories were lost, or something. So many possibilities ran through his mind, and yet none of them seemed right and it began to give him a headache.

"Ugh! I'm confused!" Chris grunted, scratching his head in frustration.

Well, the only way to find out for sure is for the doctors to finish their scans. He sighed, before flopping back in bed, staring at the ceiling.

"Well, real or not, at least my family won't be able to find me...wherever I am." The twelve year old boy muttered to himself.

When the blonde-haired doctor left Chris to left in wonder, he reached Sonic and the other doctor who noticed his return.

"I have some good news and some concerning news." The blonde-haired man informed them. "The boy is awake, and he seems to be physically fine."

While the blue hedgehog and the dark-haired man were relieved, they were quickly concerned and confused on what he said as the other doctor questioned. "Concerning news? What of his mental condition?"

"I'm afraid his memories may have been misplaced. While he seems to remember his name, the rest of what he told me is questionable." The blonde-haired man explained.

'Uh oh. Did Chaos Control mess up with the kid's head?' The blue hedgehog thought, the guilt for the human boy's situation steadily getting worse, before asking. "What did he say?"

"Well, he says his name is Christopher Thorndyke, nick-named as Chris. As for everything else, he claims to be from a wealthy family, his father being an executive of some sort of company called the Thorndyke Industrial, his mother being a famous actress and his grandfather being a famous scientist, living in a place called New York City in United States of America, here on Earth." The doctor explained, which confused the other doctor and the hero of Mobius.

"New York City, United States of America, on Earth? Like in Mobius/Earth?" Sonic asked, shrugging with one shoulder as he found Chris' story a little unbelievable as well. "Never heard of those places and I traveled the planet as much as I could, but even I look at the world map."

"Which leaves me a reason to believe that the young boy, while remembering his name, is suffering a memory lapse and is hallucinating, believing such places are real." The blonde-haired man diagnosed.

"I've never heard of these Thorndykes before, either. Something unusual has happened, given what Sonic has informed me. Perhaps Dr. Eggman has messed with the boy's mind." The dark-haired man suggested, worriedly.

The blue hedgehog on the other hand was deep in thought, his hand under his chin as he remembered the messed up Chaos Control, before a realization hit him. The kid appearing out of nowhere during the unusual event done by the machine being damaged...could that mean...? If that was the case, then the teenage hedgehog would have to ask Tails about this in the morning.

"I think I might know what the problem is." Sonic informed, causing the two human men to turn to him. "Would it be alright if I go talk to him? I have an idea on what's goin' on with the kid. But this should be between the four of us, since I don't want to cause a major confusion. I'll ask my friends and see if there's anything we can do for him. Leave him to me."

Despite not knowing what Sonic had in mind, the two men nodded in agreement and allowed the teenage hero access to Chris' room, following the blonde-haired doctor who lead him there. As he did, he found the boy wide awake, looking quite troubled and in a state of confusion and disbelief. He couldn't blame the poor kid, and he felt guilty for having failed to stop Eggman on time.

Knocking on the door, getting the boy's attention as the the doctor announced to Chris. "Mr. Thorndyke? You have a visitor who would like to speak to you."

'If this is a dream and I'm expecting my parents, I'm in for an...ear...ful...' Chris's thoughts were trailed off as when he looked up, he saw his savior for the first time, someone who he wasn't expecting, as Sonic entered and approached.

To say that least that when the doctor said Sonic was a hedgehog, he wasn't kidding! The twelve year old boy couldn't believe it. To add to the confusion, he's a blue hedgehog that was oddly shaped like a normal human, only wearing gloves and shoes and as the teenage hero approached, he seemed to be friendly, and cool looking. The doctor in the meantime left the two alone and closed the door behind him, and once Sonic was sure no one was within eavesdrop, he knew that they can talk about what happened without causing superstition.

"Hi there. You doin' okay, kid?" Sonic greeted with a wave.

"Uh...Y-yeah, I guess?" Chris stuttered a little, very surprised that not only his savior was actually a blue hedgehog, but he spoke the same language as people too. "I didn't know you can talk."

"I can do a lot of things." The blue hedgehog smiled a little, despite that his theory was already proving to be true.

"Wow, that's awesome! That you can talk, I mean. You're Sonic the Hedgehog I've heard about, right?" The preteen asked, amazed.

The hero of Mobius winked with his trademark thumbs up. "The one and only! The doctor told me that your name's Chris."

Chris nodded. "That's right. My name's Christopher Thorndyke, but I prefer to be called Chris. It's easier than using my full name, anyway."

"More than good enough for me. Whichever makes you comfortable." Sonic replied, pulling up a chair close to the bed and took a seat, before sighing as he began slowly and as carefully as possible. "Not to get into the full interrogation or stuff like that, but I heard that you mentioned about having a really wealthy family, and a few things that I don't quite understand. About your Dad being the executive of some big company, your Mom being a famous movie star, your grandpa being a famous scientist, you guys living in some place called New York City in a country called America and stuff like that. Is that true?"

"Well, yeah. I know that I'm not crazy, but the doctor's think that I am. He said that you're a hero and I'm in a city called Station Square in Sou-something-ca in a place that is also called Earth, but it has another name like Mobius. He thinks that my memory's all messed up and I was hallucinating." The twelve year old boy explained, shrugging slightly. "Problem is, I've never heard of any of that or even you until a short time ago, after I woke up."

"Hmm..." Sonic hummed, placing his fingers under his chin in thought. "Okay, so you don't know anything about this place and the rest of us have no clue of where you came from? And you said that where you came from is also called Earth, which some humans still call the planet these days but the rest of us call it Mobius."

"What are you trying to say?" Chris asked, blinking and wondering what the blue hedgehog was talking about.

"Well, first off, what was the last thing you remember? You know, before waking up here after I saved ya." The fifteen year old asked.

Chris sighed, shifted a little in bed uncomfortably, before explaining. "Well, you see...I...I ran away from home, to get away from my family."

"Say what?" Sonic asked, shocked to hear this. This kid...was running away from his family? "How come?"

"Because my parents and grandpa won't let me do anything on my own, or even allowed to meet the people I'd like to be friends with, or check out all of the cool stuff. They want me to be a businessman like my dad, a movie actor like my mom, a scientist researching on boring stuff instead of the few cools things like grandpa, and...they already have me go through the arranged marriage to get used to this bossy girl who's more into business and movies and to make me into someone I'm not. I've been attending the boys only school but even there I'm not allowed to make friends with the other guys." Chris explained in sadness.

Sonic couldn't help but wince in sympathy, having heard of a few people go through similar situations when it came to their rich families, but Chris's family drama takes the cake. "Ouch. That doesn't sound like family love to me. And an arranged marriage? Yuck! Your folks kinda sound too controlling."

"I think kinda is an understatement." Chris sighed, shrugging. "Anyway, earlier tonight, I told them that I wanted to make some real friends and get to know people, and learn what I wanna be when I grow up, but they yelled at me and we got into a fight that I was sent to my home, and like a boring prince, all of my meals would be delivered to me. Hot and served and all fancy."

"And your clothes are as casual as you're gonna get?" The blue hedgehog carefully guessed, gesturing at the, well, not very casual clothing but not too fancy either.

"It's what I could be allowed to wear. I'm not allowed to be a normal kid, after all."

"So you finally had enough of that sort of life and sneaked out of your house without your parents noticing?"

The human boy nodded. "Yeah, and I was being chased down by the police since I figured my parents noticed while my grandpa was at some meeting. I think he mentioned about it being about the one that did get me interested, like in the movies."

"Like what?" The teenage Mobian asked, curiously.

"Something to do with traveling to different dimensions, but all I planned on doing was leaving New York and never go back to my family again. I thought of going to the country or at least Florida." Chris replied, trying to remember.

Sonic softly gasped, not because the Florida place was also unfamiliar, but because of what Chris' grandfather was doing. "Your grandpa was studying of ways of travelling to other dimensions?"

"Yeah, but since New York is huge, I didn't where the building was. Anyway, I was hiding behind a dumpster in the alley, hoping to not get caught." The boy continued, then thought back of the unusual light. "Then, something weird happened. I don't know what it was, but as I was hiding, all of the sudden, there was this huge light that appeared from the sky and it covered me. It felt like I was being zapped a little and everything was white, because the next thing I knew, I woke up here. So I don't remember much else after that."

"Uh-oh...Looks like I was right. Except how or why it connected still doesn't make any sense, but what I can say is that it makes a whole lotta sense now." Sonic muttered worriedly. Not only was Chris running away from home, but now the kid was far away from his home...Far, far, FAR away.

"What do you mean?" Chris asked, concerned.

Bracing himself to break the news with a sigh, Sonic looked directly into the human boy's eyes and said as gently as possible. "Chris, I believe everything you said. Your memories are not messed up and you weren't hallucinating. You're not in your world anymore. You've been travelling through Space and Time."

"...What!?" The boy exclaimed, shocked when he heard this. But then as he remembered the light and, given what he has heard and the possibilities of other realities began to really make sense. "Y-You mean...I'm in a parallel universe!?"

"Yep, 'fraid so." Sonic nodded apologetically. "I have no idea how that light went to your world and took you from there to here, but I know what is it and what and who caused it."

"So then, how did I get here to your world, Sonic?" Chris asked, still shocked beyond belief, not to mention beginning to look scared, and the blue hedgehog couldn't blame him.

"The reason I'm a hero is because this world is constantly under threat by an evil scientist we call Dr. Eggman, who wants to take over the world and build his stupid Eggman Empire. He causes problems, I fight him and stop him all the time, sometimes on my own and other times with the help of my friends, and save them whenever he kidnaps them." The hero of Mobius explained.

"Dr. Eggman? That's a very weird name for a bad guy." Chris remarked, having a ghost smile of amusement despite being afraid of what was going on.

"Yeah, that guy's an evil genius, but a lot of times he can be pretty stupid too, and he's so fat that he's shaped like an guy, and probably the ugliest guy on the planet." Sonic smirked, before it faded into a frown once more. "But he is dangerous. He builds these robots for his schemes, especially giant ones."

"But I don't get how robots could've caused me to suddenly be taken from my world, Sonic." The young Thorndyke stated.

"That's because earlier tonight, he kidnapped my friend Cream and her Chao named Cheese(which I kinda figured you have no idea what Chaos are), and was trying to use the Chaos Emeralds again." The teenage Mobian explained.

"Chaos Emeralds?" Chris asked, blinking.

"They're special gems that hold lots of mysterious powers, and are just as powerful when together. Eggman's being trying to use them to power up his machines to take over the world and kidnapped my friends since Cream found one. My other friends and I went to save her and stop that guy and while it had been going a bit smoothly, well..." Sonic explained, and then explained how things were messed up when the E-13 fired at Eggman's machine which malfunctioned the moment he pushed the button and the Chaos Emeralds glowed, because the next thing that's happened as they scattered across the world, it was when Chris showed up unconscious, prompting Sonic himself to save him, Cream and Cheese and escape to briefly reunite with Tails, Amy and Knuckles, and the aftermath which lead to now.

"So this Chaos Control from Dr. Eggman's machine is what caused me to end up in your world in the first place?" Chris asked, stunned as he figured that it made sense.

Sonic lowered his head in guilt. "I'm really sorry, Chris. I didn't mean for you to end up here. To think that not only Eggman kidnapped Cream and Cheese and tried to take over the world as usual, but now his stupid robot and machine kidnapped you too and you're stuck here."

"It wasn't your fault. You were just trying to stop him and...personally, I'm really glad you got me away from that guy even though I haven't met him yet and he does sound very bad." The human boy shrugged with a sad smile, as the sudden realization that he was millions of light years away from his world, and he wouldn't be able to get to Florida like he planned, and, being a brand new world where humans and talking animals lived together made him feel a bit homesick despite on never planning on returning to his family again.

"Kid, if I know Eggman, not only he's crazy on trying to accomplish his dreams, he's a trickster and a clown. Especially with that mustache of his." Sonic replied, before asking. "So um, you really don't wanna go back to your family?"

"Not with the way they treated me. They never loved me. They just wanted me to keep the family name alive. In the Thorndyle family rules, I have to obey everything they said, or the world won't accept me if I make my own choices. They think that having my life made for me like I'm a robot is the only way to live life in the world and everything else is a lie. Still...I'd been looking forward in going to Florida. I don't care if I even have to work in a fish factory or live out in the streets. Anywhere, even back on Earth-My Earth, I mean-is better than with them." Chris said.

'Poor kid. He's been through such a tough life. Not being allowed to have any kind of freedom and being treated like he's a special toy or something, and being told that world works like the way his family lives isn't fair. Still...what should I do? He doesn't wanna go back to his parents, and after hearing what he said, I can't blame him. But...he wants to go to this Florida place...Yet what he needs is friendship, and a safe place to stay until we figure something out. I can't force him, and it's not my place or anybody else's place.' The blue hedgehog thought to himself, before nodding and made up his mind.

"I'll help you, Chris." Sonic declared, surprising the boy again as he continued. "I don't know where your family got this idea of living life the way they want you to from and that it's been going on for generations, but what I can tell you is that they're wrong. Sometimes some decisions on what people want to do with their lives, like Eggman for example and those choices do have to be stopped, but everybody has the right make their own choices. Especially you. You don't want to live that kind of life your folks want you to, and to me and everybody else who would agree, that's perfectly fine."

"Even some rich people?" Chris asked, blinking.

"Yep! Sure, I'm not a rich kind of guy even though I'm famous, but I do like my personal space and living my life the way I want to. Besides, being a celebrity has more cons than pros." Sonic nodded smiling.

"So, you're like those super hero movies where not everyone knows who you are?" The boy asked, stunned.

"Kid, most people know me, but I try to avoid crazy fans. I'm an adventurer, being free to just be me. You're free to be who you want to be too." The blue hedgehog explained. "Not only that, my friends would agree, and we're gonna take care of you until if or when you like you wanna go home and to Florida in your world. No one's gonna force you to live our your life."

"Really? You mean I get to actually meet people and make friends?" Chris asked, amazed how Sonic, the blue hedgehog who was unlike the small, four-legged hedgehogs back in his world, was talking about freedom and attempted to make him feel better and giving him the choice to live his life freely as possible.

"Well, you already got that sorted out, buddy. 'Cause starting today, you and me are friends." Sonic replied, winking at him. "Sure I go off on my own, but I love meeting new people and I got great friends that you're gonna meet too."

"We're...friends?" That the boy didn't expect, but for the first time in his life, he felt...so free. He was actually making friends already, especially with a talking blue hedgehog who didn't like being famous, but was a hero and lived his life freely.

"You bet!"

"Wow...! This is the first time I've actually had a friend. Thanks, Sonic." Chris replied, feeling so happy and safe despite being in a different world.

"Glad to help." Sonic said, before sighing. "It's getting late. We should get some sleep, and tomorrow I'm gonna introduce you to my friends, and then we'll figure out to get you settled in..."

He then trailed off while gazing at his new friend's clothes, before shrugging sheepishly. "Uh, but first things first. If you wanna go casual, I suggest we get ya some new duds."

Realizing the problem as he looked at his clothes, which, despite being as casual as possible, it still made him stick out like a sore thumb since it was still fancy and wealthy, Chris rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.

"Yeah, good idea." Chris replied, grinning awkwardly. 'Man, this is embarrassing.'

"And if it makes ya' feel better, I'll stay so wouldn't get so lonely for the night." Sonic offered.

"Isn't that against the rules, though? You know, that visitors are meant to go home?" The twelve year old boy pointed out, slightly concerned.

"I asked permission from the doctors. Besides, we agreed to keep your situation a secret, which reminds me. As much as I wanna give you as much freedom as possible, we can't tell anybody where you really came from or how you got here. Except for my friends, since my brother would probably know about how got here better than I would. We'll make it so that you're an orphan while you're here and in the best of care to live out a normal life." Sonic informed him.

"Guess that means sense." Chris shrugged in agreement, before blinking in surprise on what else his first new friend has said. "Wait a second. Your brother? I didn't know you have a brother. Is he a famous scientist or something?"

"Well, you'll met him tomorrow anyway. He isn't my brother through blood...Or species. But he's my best buddy and the closest thing to a brother I ever had, and don't let his age fool ya'. That kid's smarter than Eggman, with a heart much better than gold." The blue hedgehog shrugged, smiling at the thought of Tails.

"Wow. He sounds really great, and lucky to have you for an adoptive brother." The twelve year old boy remarked, before asking in confusion. "Uh...N-no offense, but how old are you guys, anyway?"

"Huh?" Sonic blinked in confusion at first, before realizing what Chris meant and chuckled a little sheepishly. "Well, first off, we are animals of this world, which to humans, I'm one of the Mobians and so are my friends."

"Mobians?"

"Yeah, we Mobians are kinda like humans. We age the same as you guys do, pretty much here and in your world. Other animals that walk on four legs and can't talk or live the same lifestyle as humans and Mobians do but live in the world, we call them Mobinis. That doesn't mean I'm not a hedgehog."

"So you have the same lifespan as me?" Chris asked, surprised with a small sweat drop.

"Yep." Sonic nodded. "I'm fifteen now, and yeah, some Mobians around my age go to school, but I educated myself by traveling a lot and I get by easily. The rules in most parts of the world aren't really strict as much."

That made the preteen stare in shock. "...W-Wow."

"I think it's best I explain more tomorrow. It's been a crazy night for both of us and we should get some sleep." The blue hedgehog suggested, now sheepishly even further himself.

Chris couldn't help but yawn tiredly even though he tried to cover it with his hand, deciding that it was late and he was exhausted after running away from home. "Yeah, even though hospitals aren't really comfortable and they smell weird."

Sonic couldn't help but chuckle in agreement. "My thoughts exactly! Who likes being a patient in hospitals anyway?"

That made Chris laugh himself. "Crazy people?"

"Yeah, probably. Anyway, let's get some Z's." Sonic informed him, getting up from the chair and moving it to the end of the bed before settling against the wall next to where his new friend was, his hands behind his head and one leg over the other.

"You're gonna sleep like that? Wouldn't that make you feel uncomfortable?" The boy asked, concerned when he saw what the teenage Mobian was doing.

"I'm fine. I can sleep just about anywhere." The blue hedgehog reassured, closing his eyes to get some much needed sleep.

Chris, feeling guilty that his new friend had to sleep on the floor while he had two pillows and two blankets, which didn't make the hard bed anymore comfortable, and he was getting hot, decided to pay him back for saving his life from Eggman's clutches and bringing him to the hospital to recover. So he got up and removed the extra blanket and extra pillow, before carefully bringing Sonic forward, much to the hedgehog's surprise as he opened his eyes. He placed the pillow behind the teenager's head and had him lay against it before covering him with the blanket.

"Uh, Chris? What're you doing?" Sonic asked, surprised.

"I know I can't repay you yet for saving me, but I wouldn't want you to get cold and it's the best I can do for saying thank you." Chris replied, shrugging.

Stunned by the act of kindness even though he didn't ask for it or even expected it, and the first time anyone gave him such generosity was Tails who had fixed up his airplane on the day they first met, Sonic smiled gratefully.

"Wow...Thanks, Chris, and you're welcome. You didn't have to." The blue hedgehog replied.

"Well, I wanted to." The boy replied, sharing the warm smile.

The two shared warm glances for a while longer before Chris went back to bed to get himself settled in, as Sonic yawned and snuggled into the burrowed blanket and getting more comfortable. "Night, Chris."

"Goodnight, Sonic." Chris responded, lying on his side and closed his eyes, and despite being in a strange new world, for the first time in his life, he felt safe with his very first friend.

Sonic glanced up to his new sleeping friend, and he could tell that they were going to get along just fine. The kid may have come from a worst-than-snobby family, but the twelve year old himself wasn't like them. He was kind, he desired a normal life, and freedom, and he was very grateful, too. It was then that the blue hedgehog vowed to protect him from Eggman and give him as much freedom and a better life as possible, while attempting to figure out to make his life better in his world without him going back to his old life.

'I'll protect you, Chris, and make sure that you live your life the way you want to. I promise.' Sonic vowed in his mind, before finally drifting off to sleep as today's events finally caught up to him.

Even though hospitals were uncomfortable places, both Sonic and Chris felt comfort in each other's presence, as tomorrow their new friendship along with Sonic's friends was about to quickly grow.

A/N: Just a very simple chapter where Sonic and Chris quickly bond and the next chapter will have them meet up with Tails and the others, and perhaps more calm before Eggman strikes again. But what of Chris' family on Earth? Guess we'll wait and see.

See you later!
