Chapter 4: First Time Actual Danger.
"Well, it seems that your new little friend is still with you, Sonic." Eggman remarked as he had noticed the twelve year old boy with the four Mobians and the little Chao, as Amy held Cream and Cheese close to her to shield them in case there was another kidnapping attempt. "Sorry but not sorry for interrupting your little day out with your friends, because I'm about to ruin it!"
"Should've known you're already about to cause more trouble in less than one day." Sonic grumbled as he folded his arms. "What's the scheme this time? A giant metal horn or something?"
"Save your sarcastic quotes, you pain in the neck Mutant-Cactus. You may have foiled my biggest plan last night, but as the most evil genius that I am, I have one that you cannot win against." The evil scientist warned.
"Which proves my point." The blue hedgehog rolled his eyes, not fazed.
"Uh, Sonic?" Chris muttered worriedly, concerned that the hero of Mobius was about to recklessly mock the mad doctor who, as his new friend put it, was really ugly and pretty scary.
"What kind of plan is it that you think Sonic can't win against?" Tails demanded.
Eggman cackled. "I'm glad you asked, fox-boy. It involves that new friend of yours, seeing how he's still hanging out with all. Having trouble locating his parents, are we?"
Sonic and his friends flinched and gasped in shock, as Chris sweat dropped in panic and fear. If Eggman figured out that Chris came from another dimension, that was serious trouble, and Sonic wouldn't forgive himself if his new friend, whom he promised to protect and make him be happy, got hurt or captured considering that it was the evil man's fault that the human boy from Earth was brought here in the first place, not to mention kidnapping Cream and Cheese last night for his evil goals.
"Leave him out of this, Egghead! Chris has nothing to do with whatever it is you're plotting!" Sonic warned, standing in front of all of his friends in a defense stance in order to protect them as he glared hard at his enemy.
Chris, not wanting to reveal where he came from in case Eggman would try to use him to, as he thought about it, figure out how to transport to Earth and cause trouble there, or worse, send Sonic to the human-only dimension where the blue hedgehog could be caught by the government, mistaken for an alien and do all sorts of horrible experiments on him, then kill him or leave him trapped on Earth forever, tried to figure out something until he remembered what the doctor thought of him when he revealed his family history and home.
"You may have suffered a brain trauma despite being in good health, except you are suffering with a memory loss-lapse and hallucination."
"So, Chris is his name? That doesn't matter, though." Eggman said, then leaned forward with a growl. "You have better stay out of my way, or else your new friend will be history, regardless of where he came from as he may provide a key in locating my Chaos Emeralds."
"Uh, except one problem. I don't even know where I came from." The twelve year old boy spoke up, making the evil doctor raise an eyebrow, while Sonic, Tails, Amy, Cream and Cheese blinked, as he continued. "I only remember my name, and nothing else. I don't know what these Chaos Emeralds are, or who my family is."
Realizing what his new friend was doing and also remembering what the doctors thought of last night, the fifteen year old quickly gazed at his friends and silently shushed them to play along, then said to the evil scientist. "Yeah, no thanks to you, the poor kid lost his memory so he doesn't even have a clue on what's been going on. He didn't even know who I was when I saved him last night."
"Just play along and nod in agreement, Cream. We'll figure something out later." Tails whispered to the six year old rabbit girl who, not liking the idea of lying, nervously nodded along with Cheese.
"It's all your fault that poor Chris is all alone, Eggman! And now you want to use him just to find the Chaos Emeralds? You've gotta be kidding me!" Amy exclaimed angrily.
Despite that there was something odd going on with his young enemies and the boy who claims to have amnesia, Eggman grinned once more. "Well then, I suppose it's best he would come with me and I will help him to return to his family and get his memories back."
"No way!" Sonic snapped, spreading his arms up. "I made a promise I'd help him out already, and anybody who'd want to ask for your help would be out of their minds!"
"I don't remember much, but I wanna stay with my new friends and they already told me all of the bad stuff you did. So, no thanks." Chris added, sticking close to his new Mobian friends whom he felt safer with. Not only Sonic warned him of how dangerous Eggman is, but the guy made his skin crawl.
Eggman growled in irritation that this wasn't working out so well already, thinking to himself by the boy's refusal. 'Well, at least this kid declined politely.'
"Then I'll finish you all off myself!" The evil doctor declared, holding out a small remote and pushed the little red button.
As Sonic and his friends stood while wondering what Eggman had to threaten them this time, they jumped slightly in shock when they saw the evil man's giant fortress in the distance of the city, which it's hatch opened up from the bottom and revealed another robot which came flying out and straight towards the group. The evil doctor grinned widely while his creation landed behind him to his right.
It resembled to a T-Rex, which Chris thought it looked like, with long arms that had mechanical claws made for grabbing, a long tail with spikes trailing up to the back of it's head, and creepy large insect-like eyes almost as big as it's head as well, and about the size of two cranes piled on top of one another.
"This is my latest and most brilliant robot that will put you down to size, Sonic! E-38 Gollusaur will tear down everything and capture anyone without warning!" Eggman introduced and announced.
"Whoa! That's a big robot!" Chris exclaimed in shock and fright.
"It's scary!" Cream whimpered.
"Chao, chao!" Cheese squeaked.
"Gotta admit, this thing is kinda huge." Sonic commented, standing his ground yet smirking as he was looking forward in smashing this piece of junk while knowing that he had to keep his friends safe. "But it won't be for long!"
"That's what you think, hedgehog!" Eggman grinned evilly, then commanded his robot. "E-38 Gollusaur, crush them!"
The giant Dino-bot roared as it reared it's head back before lifting it's foot to stomp the group who gasped. They quickly moved out of the way with Sonic and Tails both using speed and flight to carry Chris, Amy, Cream and Cheese. They all rolled down the hill before the blue hedgehog regained his footing and spun around to make the landing for his friends softer and safer. People who were around saw what happened as he then noticed and told them to get to safety, which they all scrambled as they did.
"You guys okay?" Sonic asked his friends who all got up slowly.
"Y-yeah." Chris replied shakily, as the others also responded that they were alright.
"You'd better get to safety. I'll take care of that dino-bot!" The blue hedgehog instructed with a serious tone.
"Here it comes!" Tails suddenly screamed out, gazing up with a panicked expression.
Sonic and the others looked up to see the Gollusaur peering at them before it began to surprisingly glide it's way down after it's feet turned into what appeared to be roller-skates to attack them. Narrowing his eyes, the hero of Mobius raced back up with his super speed in a blue blur, much to the human boy's amazement.
"WHOA!" The twelve year old boy exclaimed in shock and awe, having just witnesed his first friend run off like he turned into a laser or something. When Sonic said that he's the fastest thing alive, he wasn't kidding!
"We'd better move out of the way, quick!" Tails instructed, and the others nodded before all five of them hurried out of the way to avoid in getting crushed just in case, despite that Chris couldn't help but worry that Sonic could get hurt, given the blue hedgehog's history in fighting against Dr. Eggman.
'Sonic...Please be careful.' The twelve year old boy thought in his mind.
The giant robot saw the hero of Mobius approach and extended it's arms to grab him, but Sonic easily maneuvered out of the way with a confident smirk as he chuckled. The blue hedgehog then jumped and used a Spin Attack right into the robot's chest, causing it to stumble back and nearly lose it's balance even as he attacked it again. But when Sonic leaped away, he gasped in shock when he saw the E-38 robot use it's tail to prevent it from falling onto it's back and landed back on it's wheels as it made it to the bottom.
"What!?" Sonic exclaimed, while descending and landed on the ground himself. "That robot's tail is like a landing pillow!"
"Ha ha ha ha ha! Did I neglect that E-38 can also use it's tail for recovery whatever attacks you use?" Eggman bellowed evilly from the above. "You have no chance in defeating it!"
"That's what you think!" Sonic retorted, before charging at the giant robot again.
The robot then spun around to smack him with it's tail, but he managed to slide underneath it and rolled super fast to attack it from behind. However, the Gollusaur was shockingly faster and smacked him while he was still curled up and sent him flying. He screamed in alarm and pain, much to Eggman's delight and the horror of Tails, Amy, Chris, Cream and Cheese who cried out Sonic's name.
Sonic hit the ground hard, rolling and tumbling before coming to a stop. His eyes squeezed shut in pain as he tried to ignore his injuries, the blue hedgehog pushed him up up and quickly leaped away when the Gollusaur attempted to either squash him flat or grab him before it's spikes on it's back and tail revealed themselves to be sharp-knifed missiles that were fired towards him, locking him on. He ran around to avoid in getting hit while preventing the missiles from hurting his friends or anyone else and tried to stop it from causing too much damage.
"Crush that hedgehog!" Eggman shouted at his creation, getting more impatient by the second.
"Sonic's going to get hurt badly!" Chris cried out in grave worry. If anything happened to his first real friend, he would never forgive himself. The fact that Sonic was risking his life for the world, for all of his friends and the people, humans, Mobians, and Chao alike, the twelve year old couldn't help but think that the blue hedgehog didn't seem to care about his own safety.
"Not if I can help it!" Amy hissed, swiping her right arm to summon her Piko Piko Hammer, much to the boy's amazement before she charged.
"No, Amy!" Tails cried out, panicking.
"Wait, Amy! Come back!" Cream screamed out worriedly.
"Chao, Chao!" Cheese squeaked in dismay.
"Amy, what are you doing!?" The human boy exclaimed, bewildered. Not only was Sonic's self-proclaimed girlfriend charging into danger herself, but she can also magically summon a hammer!
"Nobody hurts my Sonic or any of my friends and gets away with it!" The pink hedgehog declared, charging with powerful determination, and her crazy love-obsession with her 'boyfriend'.
"...Is she always like this, Tails?" Chris whispered, nervously.
"Um...she can be worse, I guess." The two-tailed fox replied uneasily. "When it comes to Sonic, Amy's head over heels."
Sonic was still busy dodging every attack the Gollusaur had as well as attacking it himself, despite that everytime he did, the tail would make it stand up again which made it harder. But when he saw Amy charge straight towards it, he gasped in shock, bewilderment and increasing worry for her safety. At the last second at his distraction, the giant robot made to grab him, but he quickly dodged just as the twelve year old pink hedgehog jumped high and bashed at the robot's chest.
But it did minimal damage, and to the horror of all of her friends it grabbed her with one of it's claws, pinning her arms to her sides as she screamed and dropped her Hammer which flew towards the rest of the group.
"Amy!" Chris, Tails, Cream and Cheese screamed in horror, while Eggman laughed.
"Let her go!" Sonic demanded angrily, only to be distracted enough for the giant robot to hit him with it's tail again and as he crashed onto the ground, he grunted in agony as it slammed the tail on top of him, keeping him pinned and trapping the blue hedgehog while he struggled to push it up and escape.
"Oh no!" Cream cried out, dismayed.
"Not such a hot shot now, are you, Sonic?" The evil scientist grinned. "Either you forfeit this fight, or you lose all of your friends."
Tails was about to try and help, when Eggman noticed the fox's movements and told him a mocking scolding tone. "Ah ah ha! One false move, fox boy, and Amy and Sonic are history!"
The two-tailed kit stood frozen, unable to do anything without the risk of both Sonic and Amy getting hurt. What was he going to do? How can he save his friends and protect them without them getting hurt or worse? The young cub felt helpless, his heart sinking.
Chris felt the same, feeling useless considering all of what his very first friends have done for him. How can he repay Sonic and the others if they die? If he surrendered himself, then he was risking in Eggman figuring out where he really came from, and might just use him to locate the Chaos Emeralds and then conquer not just Mobius, but also find a way to Earth before taking it over as well. He was scared stiff, but seeing how the blue hedgehog tried hard and fought bravely without hesitation despite that he and Amy were in big trouble, he felt the sudden urge to do something, anything, to save them somehow.
Then he noticed Amy's fallen Hammer and a crazy idea formed in his mind.
"What do we do?" Cream asked fearfully, scared and worried for all of her older friends.
The twelve year old boy said nothing, but he did narrow his eyes with determination, and as silently but quickly as possible he ran towards the fallen Hammer and picked it up, which the six year old little rabbit girl noticed and softly gasped. Having managed to at least practice with how to defend himself and how to throw, Chris was suddenly glad he took all of those hard lessons at the boring school and from his butler. That was one good thing in living with his horrible family.
"Hey, Eggman! Let them go!" Chris shouted as he tossed the Hammer as hard as he could towards the evil man, who noticed at the last second as did everybody else.
"Chris!?" Sonic asked, bewildered to see his new friend putting himself into much further danger, his heart hammering in fear for the safety of the human boy.
Just as Eggman wondered what the kid was doing, he was hit full on in the face by the Hammer and stumbled backwards. "OW!"
With Eggman dazed and distracted, before Tails, seeing how it worked, saw his chance to distract the robot with his own Spin Attack he learned from Sonic long ago, bashing into the robot which, while having amazed Chris, caused it to stumble back and lose it's grip on Amy who fell screaming. Sonic, with as much strength as he could manage, managed to push the tail off him and freed himself before he ran quickly to leap up and catch Amy with one arm, and Tails spun his namesakes like a helicopter propeller, grabbing hold of the blue hedgehog's other arm and flew towards Chris who hurried back to Cream and Cheese who cheered in relief.
"Whoa! Tails can fly?" Chris exclaimed when he saw Tails actually flying, amazed for the hundredth time today, before thinking to himself. 'Maybe it's a Mobian thing that they can do all of the cool stuff.'
"Thanks, Chris!" Sonic, Tails and Amy called down with smiles, despite them being worried sick for their new human friend for his safety, as the two-tailed fox flew down towards the boy, Cream and Cheese, and they all landed gently.
"That was some aim there, pal!" Sonic praised despite that he was scared for having his friend being in danger, but he would worry about gently scolding him later.
Chris, stunned by the praise he got even though he knew he was in for a lecture, just smiled in slight embarrassment.
Eggman in the meantime, after seeing stars, regained his senses and growled furiously at the group down below, mainly at Chris. "You amnestic brat! You'll pay for this! You almost broke my nose!"
"That's not all that's gonna break!" Sonic scoffed as the robot began to recover once more, only for the blue hedgehog, knowing what to do, sped towards and around it and before it could get a chance to attack, he Spin Attacked the tail and sliced it clean off before bashing it as hard as he could and leaped up into the air, much to Eggman's dismay.
"Sonic, here!" Tails called up, flying up high again and tossed a Power Ring towards him.
The blue hedgehog smirked and caught the golden ring in his hand, absorbing it's power as he glowed in blue aura, temporary powered up by it's energy and then dove down straight towards the Gollusaur who tried to grab him but he was too fast. With a powerful Super Spin Attack, the hero of Mobius bashed right through the giant robot and emerged on the other side while the metal monster malfunctioned and exploded into nothing but rubble.
"YEAH!" Tails, Chris and Amy cheered happily.
"Hooray!" Cream celebrated.
"Chao chao chao!" Cheese squealed in joy.
Sonic landed on the ground and turned around with a smirk, while Eggman was once again furious, the blue hedgehog taunting his enemy. "You lose, Egghead."
"I'll get you for this, Sonic! One day, I will destroy you once and for all!" The evil doctor growled darkly, before turning tail and flew away into his Fortress with a final warning. "I'll be back!"
Sonic and his friends watched with a mixture of annoyance, and anxiety as Eggman entered his giant fortress which then flew away from Station Square for now, most likely vowing revenge and already coming up with a new evil plot.
"Man, what's with that guy?" Chris asked warily.
"Dr. Eggman is always so mean and awful. I wish he would just stop doing such bad things." Cream replied.
"I don't that's ever going to happen, Cream." Amy sighed, shaking her head, before quickly hugging Sonic who yelped. "But all that matters is that everything's okay! Sonic, you saved me!"
While Sonic was very annoyed with the pink hedgehog's constant fangirl over him, and that she ended up getting caught, he was glad that she was safe, and winched uncomfortably.
"Amy, will you please lighten up?" The blue hedgehog complained, carefully pushing her back.
"You guys are okay, right?" Tails asked quickly.
"Yep. Thanks for the ring, Tails." Sonic said gratefully, earning a thumbs up from his little brother which the blue hedgehog returned.
"Hey, guys..." Chris began, after realizing that he didn't stay out of the fight like he was supposed to, causing the Mobians to gaze up at him as he made his deep apology, bowing his head. "I'm...I'm really sorry for not listening to you in staying put. I just didn't...I was really worried about you guys getting hurt all because of me and I just couldn't stand back and not to anything."
While they were all surprised by his sincere apology and he was blaming himself for what happened, the four Mobians smiled softly and sincerely back at their new friend.
"Don't worry, Chris. We fight Eggman all the time. It wasn't your fault." Tails reassured.
"He just doesn't know when to learn his lesson. Plus, it's my fault that Sonic and I got caught in the first place and we would've been in big trouble if you weren't around." Amy replied modestly, feeling guilty now herself for having inadvertently made Chris to distract Eggman in the first place.
"But you saved them and helped too, Chris." Cream added sweetly.
"They're right, buddy. Sure we were worried about your safety since I promised I wouldn't let anything happen to you, and it was risky that you and Amy went into the fight, if it weren't for you, Eggman would've won for once. The fact that you distracted him with a great aim helped save the day, and you saved us." Sonic said in his own wisdom words.
"Really?" The twelve year old boy asked.
The fifteen year old hedgehog nodded. "I don't say this often, but there are times even I need a lot of help in beating Eggman. While I wouldn't want you to get hurt because of me or get yourself into danger, the fact is all of us together and another friend of ours are at team, and it takes teamwork to save the world and everybody in it. Not only that, friends look out for each other."
Sonic then approached Chris and gave him a wink and a thumbs up.
Chris was in disbelief that how Sonic not only was forgiving, but he also given him a praise as well as comfort, words he never heard of before even from his own family. Despite the risks, the boy had done the right thing and made a mental promise to try and be more careful from now on and smiled happily. So the two along with Tails, Amy, Cream and Cheese placed hands together which symbolized their bigger and stronger friendship.
What his friends didn't know was that Sonic felt awful for having Chris being put into danger and being a target for Eggman's evil plot.
'I'm sorry, Chris. It's all my fault that you're stuck here and being in danger with Eggman. I promise I'll do my best to make sure he doesn't get to you. If anything happens to you and everybody else, I'll never forgive myself.' Sonic thought in his mind.
He had to make it up for his mistake somehow.
After Eggman retreated following his latest creation's defeat by Sonic and his friends, the young group decided to head over to Tails' Workshop in the Mystic Ruins while Chris, a bit shaken by his first experience of danger which the blue hedgehog still felt bad about, was glad that things turned out okay so far despite feeling guilty that his new friends risked their lives to try and protect him, Cream and Cheese. He was glad that he managed to help out by distracting the evil doctor which saved them, though, and that everything was alright once again.
By the time they got to the place which the human boy was stunned and amazed by the area, and even more so when they went inside the garage, the group headed inside as Chris looked around in awe.
"Wow! Where are we?" Chris exclaimed, amazed.
"This is my workshop and pretty much my home. Well, Sonic's house too, whenever he feels like sleeping over." Tails proudly explained.
"All of this is yours?" The twelve year old boy asked, stunned.
"Correct. Tails can do more than just fly, he can make all kinds of neat stuff out of machines for good and totally nothing like all of Eggman's destructive junk. Pretty cool, huh?" Sonic said, rubbing his nose.
The young Thorndyke nodded. "All of this is more cool than all of my grandpa's stuff."
The two-tailed fox scratched the back of his head bashfully. "It's not a big deal. I just like to build and repair stuff. I didn't know your grandpa could make things too, though."
Sonic stiffened a little, stealing a glance at Chris who looked rather uncomfortable, which brought out great concern from his little brother and friends as they all gazed at the human boy worriedly.
"What's wrong, Chris?" Cream asked worriedly.
"Chao, Chao?" Cheese squeaked.
"Well, you see...um..." Chris trailed off, gazing at the blue hedgehog who sighed and nodded, as they turned back to their friends, knowing that the time has come for them to explain what really happened last night.
"Guys, the situation's more dire than we thought." Sonic announced, concerning his best friends even further.
Ten minutes later...
Sonic and Chris both told Tails, Amy, Cream and Cheese what really happened, including the human boy's runaway attempts from his horrible family who only cared about making him do what they wanted him to do for profit and not for family love or letting him be himself, the unusual light which the hero of Mobius theorized was the messed up Chaos Control at the same time that when Sonic attempted to rescue the six year old girl and Chao, resulting in Chris being accidentally transported from Earth to Mobius. By the time the duo finished, the other three Mobians were absolutely shocked.
"Sonic, this isn't the time for joking around like this." Amy scolded, finding this to be unbelievable.
"I'm not kidding, Amy. Chaos Control somehow brought Chris here to our world, a whole dimension away from his by accident and we don't have a clue on how it happened." Sonic shook his head.
"I've never heard of any places like New York or Amercia or even Florida before, and the fact that you really don't know about our world, plus how you appeared out of nowhere, it's gotta be true." Tails remarked to Chris.
"I can't believe your family didn't love you." Cream stated, shakily as she was in absolute horror that her new friend's parents and grandfather could be so forceful, a complete construct to her own mother. "How could they be so horrible? It isn't right."
Amy, still finding this unbelievable, did believe in the family drama part and given what she had heard today, it was no wonder Chris had lived such an awkward, if not downright awful, life that being rich had more cons than pros, especially when the children don't get the previlage of having the freedom to decide what they want to do when they grow up.
"I guess being rich isn't fun. Especially when you don't have any friends or even allowed to have some either." The pink hedgehog softly remarked.
"The only people I was ever allowed to get close was the girl my parents want me to get married with someday, but she's way too bossy and only cares about money, just like her parents who are just as, well, mean and awful." Chris sighed with a nod. "But I didn't really think ahead except that I wanted to go to Florida at least to make a fresh start, even at working at a factory or something."
"I still can't believe your own folks and grandpa would lock you up in your room and then be served like a prince just because you told them what you wanted to do." Sonic shook his head, disgusted by how the rest of the Thorndykes could be so cruel, yet Chris had such a good heart, especially how he put his own life at risk today when the blue hedgehog had promised to keep him safe and make the kid happy.
"Even so, I think I have a theory on how Chris ended up here in our world." The eight year old cub, still in absolute shock himself, spoke up. When the others gazed at him, he asked. "You said that your grandfather was at a meeting or something that involved a device that, in theory, could across dimensions, right?"
"Yeah..." Chris trailed off, blinking.
"And Chaos Control can do a lot of stuff with all of the Chaos Emeralds together, like teleporting, controling time briefly and other strong powers. I have a suspicion that when Eggman's machine malfunctioned, at the same time in your world when this Professor Alex Pell must've attempted to try out his device to see if the teleportation could work, the two must've reacted across Space and Time and you were unknowingly close to the building he and your grandfather were in, causing a Space-Time rift reaction to connect and you were caught in the rift, taken here as a result." Tails explained.
This only confused Chris, Amy, Cream and Cheese as they all blinked, and even Sonic was mostly clueless before the blue hedgehog caught on on what his brother was trying to say.
"So basically, when Eggman hit that button of his, this Pell guy did the same and Chaos Control and the Warp Ray thingy connected through Space and Time, Chris ended up being the accidental test and that's how he was brought here?" Sonic questioned with an one-arm shrug.
"The beam couldn't exactly directly connect into the lab, so it's possible that a window was open as Chaos Control happened outside. Traversing through Space and Time is really unheard of and mostly impossible. Or maybe whatever device Professor Thorndyke and Professor Pell used was just a prototype and not yet 100% perfect." The young fox confirmed.
"I guess that explains something. I didn't really pay attention where I was hiding, so I must've been right next to the Lab where Grandpa was without even realizing it." Chris said, realizing that it did make some sort of sense. He then shrugged, "Well, it looks like his theory was true after all, except nobody even knows where I am right now. I'm not even sure if Grandpa knows about it."
"We'd better keep this a low profile, especially if Eggman figures this out. I'm not sure what the human-only world is like, and I'm still edgy about your family, Chris, but I'm not gonna take any chances. If he tries to teleport from one dimension to another, he's really gonna go over his head and try and take over the universe no doubt." Sonic declared firmly, knowing that if the evil doctor really did learn of Chris' true origins, then it wasn't just Mobius that was in danger anymore.
It would be all dimensions across Space and Time.
"Not only that, but everybody would think Chris is crazy." Amy added, before quickly saying to the boy. "No offense."
"None taken." Chris replied, shrugging. "Except, I have no idea what to do while I'm here in your world, guys. I really appreciate your help and I wish I could do more in helping out, but right now, I've got no place to live."
"Hmm...that is a little tricky. First off, you need a place to stay and since you're a human kid like everybody else around here which makes you normal, so blending in won't be much of a problem, if you're up to it, you'll have to attend school and I'm not talking about the ones for boys only or boarding schools. Those places are too snobby and way too expensive." Sonic thought deeply.
"What Chris needs is a place where he's well looked after, a parent's care and easy access to the school here in Station Square..." Amy agreed.
Cream, feeling the most sorry for Chris and that she felt awful that his own family didn't treat him like a normal boy, felt the urge to help. She had been lucky with her own mother who loved her so much, and while she worried about her, Vanilla trusted her to be with Sonic, Tails, and Amy since not only they rescued her and kept her safe, they loved her as a close friend and treated her like one of their own, and to do the right thing, being cautious and taught manners but not too much, allowing her to play, to go out and have fun with her permission, and had always been so nice to her friends like she was a mother to them as well.
There was no denying that even Sonic felt the love of Vanilla who treated him and Tails like her own sons and Amy like another daughter.
That's when the little six year old made up her mind.
"Maybe Chris can come live with me, Cheese and my Mom?" She suggested, surprising all of her older friends as they all gazed at her. "I'm sure Mama would be more than happy to help him and let him stay. It's not too far from Station Square's train Station, just like how our village isn't so far from there or here either."
"That's a great idea, Cream! Who better than your mother and you to be with?" Amy beamed at the idea, chasisting herself for not thinking about this sooner.
"Yeah! I agree." Tails added.
Sonic smirked proudly at his youngest friend. "Cream, that's the most generous thing and best idea I've ever heard. Anyone ever told ya you're such a sweetheart?"
Cream giggled, blushing a little. "I just wanna help, and I wanna be Chris' friend." She then gazed at her Chao and asked. "You like that idea too, Cheese?"
"Chao chao, chao!" Cheese squeaked excitedly.
"A-are you sure your mother will be okay with that, Cream? What if I cause too much trouble for you two?" Chris asked, hesitant to be in the care of someone else's mother, even though Cream had been such a sweet little girl and he didn't even know what her mother was like.
"Don't worry, Chris. Vanilla's one of the best Mom's anybody could ask her and one of the nicest people in the world. Cream definitely takes after her when it kinds to kindness." Sonic reassured with a wink.
Cream nodded, adding. "My Mom will really like you. She treats everybody like family, and makes all of the yummy pies and cakes and loves to make pretty blankets and clothing."
"Ms. Vanilla is almost like a mother to all of us. You'll love her." Amy continued.
"If anybody can help look after you Chris, it's her." Tails added.
While still a little nervous, hearing the reassurances and that unlike himself, Cream did have a loving mother, one who trusted her with her friends, let her do what she wanted while still living under house rules, which he hoped wasn't as strict as his own family, Chris began to feel a little more eased despite the awkwardness of living with a family that aren't human, even temporarily. He only hoped it was little bit better than his old life.
"Well...if your mother's okay with it, then, I'll give it a try. Thank you, Cream." Chris finally replied after a moment of silence. All of his new friends beamed happily at him as Cream and Cheese cheered.
"We're going to be the best of friends! I just know it!" Cream celebrated, and Cheese squealed in agreement.
"See, buddy? I told ya' we'd help ya out." Sonic said to his new friend who nodded shyly at him.
He just hoped that it would work out.
While everyone was getting ready to help Chris be introduced to his new temporarily family he would be staying at, and Amy and Cream making a phone call to Vanilla to let her know what was going on, Sonic and Tails both pinched in to help Chris learn a few quick things about how Mobius worked, including creating a new ID for himself, except they changed things a little given his personal life in New York. When Chris answered questions on his origins and such, Tails would rearrange it into making him an orphan here to be moved into Cream and Vanilla's home.
The two-tailed fox changed the city of origin from New York into being Chris being from Westopolis which, as far as Chris could tell, was admittedly similar to New York, giving out details on life on Mobius. The only things that remained the same were the basic skills like English and Maths, and hints of science, and even the gymastics and sports were the same as well.
"Okay, now that we got all that sorted out, all you have to do is keep all of this memorized and you should be able to get your new ID and such in no time and by next week, you'll be able to apply for your new school." Tails announced once the session was done.
"There's so much I really gotta try and remember, I feel like I'm back in kindergarten." Chris sighed, relieved that this session was over, but dreading that he could mess up and make a slip.
"Relax, Chris. I've met a guy once who didn't have a clue about ABCs." Sonic reassured, shuddering over that memory. "The way he said it made me think how the poor guy managed to get a job in selling newspapers."
"That's...kind of reassuring." The twelve year old human boy muttered slowly with a sweat drop.
The blue hedgehog shrugged. "Hey, don't sweat it. If ya' need help, you got us, and I'll bet you'll met tons of kids you'll make friends with too."
"Sonic's right, Chris. Even though some of us don't attend school ourselves, we still learn like everybody else too." Tails reassured in agreement.
"Thanks, guys. I'm still getting used to being here." Chris replied, shrugging apologetically.
Even so, there was still a lot he felt awkward about, and he had a feeling it was going to take some time to be in this world for who knows how long.
An hour later, after Sonic raced around to gather needed school things with the help of both Tails and Vanilla(over the phone of course after she agreed to help Chris and meet the boy) giving him a list, which even he thought was a bit much and was mentally glad to not bother and learned at his own pace, always having been a quick learner, while his little brother was so smart he didn't need to go school. Amy self-taught herself and lived in her own house, and Cream learned from home, and she was still at the age where she didn't need to go to school herself.
Though their village and Station Square didn't have any kindergartens or preschools for Mobians.
When the blue hedgehog returned and thought about how to help his new friend, he noticed how Tails, Amy, Cream and Cheese were getting things ready while Chris, helping out, sighed and walked over to the cliff just near the workshop.
"Huh? Chris?" Sonic muttered in confusion and quick concern. Feeling worried and after quickly dropping off the stuff carefully, he hurried over to the boy who sat on the edge, gazing out over the sun which was setting in the horizon.
The blue hedgehog slowed to a stop and a concerned walk until he stood beside the human boy.
"Hey, buddy." He greeted, causing the twelve year old Earth-Boy to glance up at him.
"Wow, you got here fast." Chris remarked, still amazed by Sonic's speed.
"Well, I'm not the fastest thing alive for nothing." The cobalt speedster smirked, which faded into a concerned frown as even as the kid smiled a little, he looked away and gazed low, prompting Sonic to stand beside him. "What's wrong? Why are you sad?"
"Well, it's kind of complicated, Sonic. I mean, I know I've only been here for a day and it's going to take in getting used to being here in your world, and after hanging out with you and the others, I really like it already. I'm just worried about I might accidentally upset Cream and her mother, maybe I'm a little bit jealous that they're so happy whereas I never was...but at the same time...I...being so far away from my world..." Chris trailed off, feeling his heart sink as the sense of unease was still there.
Sonic could see the problem, as he sat next to him and finished what his friend failed to say. "You're feeling homesick, aren't you?"
Chris didn't say anything, so all he could do was nod. He was quiet for a little while, until he sighed. "Being on another planet that's like home is cool, it's just...Sorry. I sound selfish, don't I?"
"There's nothing wrong in feeling homesick. It gets to a lot of people." The blue hedgehog said reassuringly. "If I were on another planet, I'd feel the same way but I'd pretty much hide it. I can't just stay sad forever."
"Huh? Really?" The boy asked, confused.
The hero of Mobius nodded. "I know not everyone sees life like I do, but I always look forward on what the next day brings and not look back on all the things in the past that much. Sure there are cool memories, but living in the past wouldn't get you to the future. As long as there are places I can run, I'm happy."
"Don't you ever get lonely, Sonic?" The twelve year old asked.
"Well...Yeah, sometimes." Sonic admitted sheepishly. "I love going on adventures, but being able to come back to my friends always makes me feel happy too. Not to make you jealous or anything, but I live to do what I want to do. I'm free to be who I wanna be, and I wouldn't wanna make other people do what they don't want to do. Not like Eggman."
"Or my family." Chris sighed, feeling a little bit jealous. "I wish I had that kind of freedom like you, Sonic."
"Well, now you do." The blue hedgehog pointed out, which had his friend to glance at him in confusion once more and he continued. "You made that choice to go and figure out how to go to Florida, you wanted to have friends, to be like everybody else and even though running away is kind of a downer, you already made up your mind and whatever you decide to choose, that's entirely up to you, Chris. I told you that."
When Chris said nothing, Sonic gently placed a hand onto his friend's shoulder, surprising the boy. "Even though I was worried about you today and I'm sorry you got caught up in Eggman's schemes, the fact that you made the decision to help us out is more than enough proof that you have a big heart."
"I was just trying to repay you for helping me, more than can ever appreciate." The boy shrugged with a soft smile.
"Who says we need to keep track on repayments? I help out everybody all the time 'cause I want to and it's the right thing to do. Friendship is what all that really matters, and that's what we all are. You included." The hero of Mobius smirked.
That almost brought Chris to tears, feeling like he's been accepted, appreciated, and being cared for. For the first time in his life ever since he met Sonic, he felt like he found a place where he wanted to be, even though he was still feeling a bit homesick, but for now, he was happy to be in the Mobian hedgehog's company.
"Thanks, Sonic." Chris replied.
"No problem, buddy. We'll do our best to be there for ya'. I promise." Sonic replied.
The two friends smiled warmly at each other as Sonic and Chris then shook hands, before turning back to gaze over the horizon with the first signs of the stars appearing in the sky, making the scenery very beautiful.
Even though there was always the threat of Eggman in Mobius, Sonic and Chris both felt their friendship already becoming strong.
A/N: Not the best chapter, but at least Eggman is dealt with for the time being. Now Sonic and the others focus on getting Chris settled in while new adventures await for them. How things will turn out, we'll have to find out as more chapters are yet to come.
