Chapter 4: A Dream?
She had shakily piled her spare blankets in a corner for the bird, torn the dress from her quivering frame, and tumbled into bed. Her leaden eyelids had pulled closed with her canopy curtains, her only thoughts of escape to warmth and forgetfulness.
But in the dark before the sun had risen, her eyes fluttered open. Was she awake or was she dreaming? In the gloom she could not tell. As slumber beckoned once more, a rustling in she sheets across from her drew her barely opened eyes.
There was a boy's head on the other pillow.
She lay still, sleep-hazed, taking his image in. His claret eyes studied her slow movements, and she watched as his brows furrowed into anger, or maybe fear. His lips were pressed firmly together into a thin line, wobbling slightly at the edges. What was wrong? Something cold pressed against her neck.
She reached a hand above the covers, to gently trace his cheekbones with her palm, run her hands through his soft blond hair. He didn't move, still watching her with that unknowable stare. His skin was warm. He smelled of burnt sugar. She cupped the edge of his jaw, feeling his heartbeat, his heat. He reminded her of a frightened animal.
"Shhhhh" she whispered, her words tapering off into somnolent silence "It's alright."
His eyes widened, but she did not notice. She had already drifted back to sleep again.
A/N: I posted this at a one-week interval because it's so short, and also because I (like you) want to see more of Bakugou.
Next chapter will be at the bigger interval, though.
Oh, also, please do point out any spelling/grammar errors you notice along the way.
