He had always been her saving grace. She had fought with him like hell, but he had always been there when she truly needed him. He was crude most of the time but he made her smile and somehow managed to say the right thing at the right time.

After her break up with Victor…he was there. He comforted her. They started dating after that. He was perfect most of the time. Her friend turned lover. And she felt safe with him. She'd known him for so long and , after all they'd been through, she knew he wouldn't hurt her. Not like Victor.

Ginny comforted her as best she could when she found out about his affair. She said it was a guy thing. Harry had done it for a while and eventually came back to her. Proposed to her. Married her. She told herself that Ginny was right and that it was just a phase. Told herself that he loved her. That he would come back to her.

Now, as she looked at him across the Great Hall, she remembered the despair she had felt when she realized he would never come back. She felt as if everything she'd ever wanted had been taken away from her.

When strong arms turned her around and embraced her she froze. But when she looked up into obsidian eyes, she smiled. But he held her gaze a moment too long, and she knew he was using legemency on her. Knew he was seeing those thought of despair and loneliness she had thought not so very long ago. She had felt as if no one could love her if he didn't.
