Author's Note

As thanks for loving this fic so much, I'm releasing this set of Miscellaneous notes about this AU that contains questions and answers to some things that went unanswered in the main fanfic (but some of this info will also be revealed and further delved into later in Side Stories). The epilogue will be next week. I've been working on it but progress has been slow due to depression and burnout. Glad I'm having it now though instead of during the final chapter.

At the very end of this document are multiple endings to the fanfic (think of them as like the multiple endings in the Canon Game but ... with darker twists. If DR were a game, you can obtain these endings through various methods and choices).

Oh yeah, Intermissions aka the Character sheet has been moved to the very end. It's still incomplete but it contains all the bios of the characters in DR.

Deleted scenes:

Overall, There were a LOT of deleted conversations/scenes I had to take out from my fanfic as they either took up too much time or disrupted the flow of the narrative buuutttt if DR were a video game, I'd definitely include these short conversations inside as like bonus rewards for finding certain items or interacting with certain things in a certain way...

Gregory finding out about the fate of Afton Robotics (it was bought by and 'swallowed' into Fazbear Entertainment) Gregory finds out how William and Violet first met from Henry. Henry and William first met Violet at a bar and she was a singer there. Henry admitted he had a crush on her to William which led to him asking her out first before he could do it. Mike calls William a dick for doing so. Mike talks about a time he got so drunk he danced at a strip club and people threw money at him. Henry wonders if Aftons getting madly drunk and doing crazy things is a genetic thing and worries for Gregory. Gregory finds out that Aunt Jen punched William upon first meeting him and almost broke his jaw. Her excuse for punching him was that she saw a mosquito on his cheek. She also calls him a 'Gremlin' Mike talks about puberty and other things with Gregory once he admits that his memories with Violet made him feel "funny". A scene where Gregory sees Child William poking a dead bird with a stick until it bleeds. This is a moment where William first gains a fascination with and understanding of life and death. Then it cuts to a scene where William is with both of his parents and he's in trouble for hurting yet another boy who called him a rabbit but this time, it was at a party. When asked why, he responds that "it's what he deserved". When asked if he knew whether it was wrong to do so, he also said yes as he enjoyed seeing the boy in pain. He has a sinister grin as he says so. However, he quickly changes his smile and words to show that of remorse and promises it won't happen again. His father sighs and says he'd better not as that boy he hurt almost made them lose their close friend (because the child was related to a friend of his father's and mother's). His mother tries to guilt him, saying she'll "never forget what he did" and that "he'll have to live with this guilt for the rest of his life" seethingly. William pretends to feel sorry but he has no remorse for the blood on his hands. Mike mentioned a time he tried to deepthroat an entire stick of exotic butter. It didn't work out so well... In the chapter where Fake William makes Vanny to have the personality of his wife, it was meant to be even creepier but I found it too creepy. In this segment, both Vanny and Vanessa would be suffering from a phantom pregnancy as in the initial draft, Vanny was meant to have a mysterious ex-boyfriend, agreed to have a child him and get married but after suffering from a miscarriage, it lead them to break up and this trauma combined with the brainwashing, caused her to have this physical ailment. Vanessa is confused as to why her stomach is bloating so badly but Vanny on the other hand immediately tells William that she's having a child and that she can feel it growing inside her, showing him her stomach which already looks 3 months pregnant. Fake William of course freaks out and resets Vanny's personality. After that, both personalities return to normal and their stomach stops bloating. There was meant to be a chapter at the Mazercise Lazer Tag area with Monty screen time as he'd chase Gregory around instead of Chica (as she was eating garbage) but I found it too hard to write because F*** that level. F*** that level in particular. Also it felt like filler as nothing much happened except Gregory getting the Bonnie bowl ticket so I didn't write it. There was meant to be a cute flashback scene where Henry and William won bear and rabbit plushies for themselves at a carnival. There was a scene where Charlie explained how Henry found out about William's crimes and her being in the Puppet but this explanation will be revealed in Henry's side story. A scene where Gregroy tells Micheal his Father hated him as he was born an "accident" as he never wanted marriage to Violet and he was disobedient, unlike Elizabeth and Evan who were slaves to his every word.

Bonus: Deleted Dialogue that sadly never made it in

Mike: So if you (Gregory) kill William, would that technically be suicide?

Gregory: umm I guess?

What could have been

Dark Rebirth was originally conceptualised as a Freddy and Gregory focused only story like Security Breach and was meant to follow SB's plot to a close degree but seeing how the plot was kind of ...shallow, a lot was changed from the first draft of Dark Rebirth. The ghosts weren't originally meant to be involved in this plot. However, I changed my mind after some time and wanted to include characters from the previous instalments. Cos if Canon was gonna bring back William and whatever the Blob was, then I'm sure I can bring Canon characters back too somehow. In the West Arcade Chapter, Gregory was meant to meet William in a holographic room and he would teleport around to freak him out as he conversed with Gregory, switching to his different forms over the ages. However, that was scrapped and I ended up using the Theatre since that hasn't been seen yet in the fanfic and I love comedy bot. Micheal talks about how he fell in love with a guy called Jeremy Fitzgerald but William drove him away due to his homophobia. Jeremike is still Canon in this AU but instead of having met a long time ago, Mike meets and falls in love with Jeremy in the afterlife and gets married to him only in Heaven (will be seen in epilogue) Burntrap was meant to be one of Glitchtrap/Fake William's many forms but it didn't make sense as in my AU, the body was burned to a crisp and...as much as I loved the Burntrap design, I didn't want another Springtrap 2.0. And having Bonnietrap was a much better idea in the end I felt as it tied things together. The story was meant to be done in a 'drabble style' but I gave up that idea and decided that this style would be used more for Side Stories.

Glossary of important terms in the fanfic and in Canon [This is an AU so somethings are different from Canon]:

Remnant

The term for the portion of someone's soul/ A residue of someone's life force/energy. When extracted, it takes the form of a Silvery Coloured liquid, similar to Mercury. There are two different types of Remnant: Light and Dark. Gregory nor William know much about it...yet. This substance lying within the human soul and the technique/device to extract it were both discovered and invented by William's Father and two other scientists who worked alongside him: Dr Talbert and Dr Phineas Taggart. Can only be extracted from the Souls of other people or animals, deceased and living. Lingering ghosts also leave Remnant behind as well. However, extracting Remnant from a living person will decrease their lifespan significantly. It is best obtained via murder (according to William). Remnant has been observed to have two different purposes when consumed by humans or applied onto various objects. The first is the ability to "Give Life" and the second, is to grant immortality. Remnants has the ability to imbue 'life' into inorganic objects such as machines and even dolls. When injected/Smeared into something, it will give it 'life' to them in the form of sentience, possible intelligence and an artificial soul. However, unlike real souls, artificial souls vanish along with the Remnant once exposed to high temperatures or have their bodies destroyed. As such, creatures born from remnants with artificial souls will cease to exist once they die and cannot go to the afterlife. William's goal with Remnant was to engineer it to give him 'Perfect Immortality', desiring not only to live forever but also Invincibility and a way to regain his youth and dashing good looks as he continued to age into an ugly old man. When consumed/injected frequently, Remnant is able to grant long life (among a host of other supernatural abilities such as astral projection and illusion casting) and thus immortality (As one is adding someone else's life span to their own). Another positive side effect is that after some point, it also stops the body from ageing. Unfortunately, Madness, Brain Damage and Addiction are also side effects of frequent Remnant consumption. Side effects that William was trying to get rid of but failed as he succumbed to all three of these things while he was taking to permanently cure his illness. Another negative aspect of Remnant consumption is that it works on Death Becomes Her logic. Even though Remnant stops the body from aging, it does not have regenerative capabilities. Should one die, the Remnant will continue to keep the person alive but not the physical body. It will eventually rot. William and Micheal both learn this the hard way. Furthermore, Remnant usually contain the memories, personalities and feelings of souls. Therefore when injected, one can see the memories of other people and obtain certain emotions from them such as happiness or agony. Furthermore, when a Soul's Remnant is smeared onto something like an animatronic, it will tend to develop a personality based on the soul the remnant originated from. Remnant seems to work differently for clones made from Fazgoo. It's not capable of granting immortality to them as they are basically Homunculus but it does grant them free will to develop their own personalities and interests beyond that of their original counterpart.

Fazgoo

A substance capable of cloning living things both dead and alive. It was created by Fazbear Entertainment and is part of their Friendly Face service where they can clone dead pets back to life. However, the resurrection of the dead requires a very hefty sum to pay but many customers are willing to do so. Works Differently than In Fazbear Frights: When fed genetic material such as saliva, hair or a tooth, Fazgoo is able to recreate an organic copy of living things, mainly small to medium sized animals. Human clones were unsuccessful due to being more complicated. William/Glitchtrap discovered that the reason for it was due to them needing not only DNA but also greater amounts of Remnant. The goo needed the memories of their original person in order to 'live' and become near perfect copies of them. However, errors are still destined to happen (e.g. Gregory gaining increased empathy, something William never had) Fake William (accidentally) discovered that adding too much remnant to the Fazgoo will give the body 'life' and thus an artificial soul. It's still unknown how much Remnant is needed for the Fazgoo to not give a body a consciousness.

Ghosts

Ghosts are Souls unattached to their proper bodies. They go on to inhabit objects, other bodies or linger in places they are attached to These souls remain on earth instead of going to heaven or Hell often because they have unfinished business they are weighed down by. People with naturally (or through artificial means in William's case) high amounts of Remnant in their bodies can see these ghosts and even speak with them as mediators of sorts. Furthermore, if they consent, they can help them move on to the afterlife. They can possess people and objects but they must still adhere to its rules (e.g. They cannot make a toaster float, the animatronics 'wake up' at 6am, preventing the ghosts from taking control of them in the day). Ghosts who are stuck in the mortal realm cannot float. They still walk about physically, showcasing that they're somewhat attached to the physical realm. They also cannot interact with physical objects unless they possess, like say an animatronic, and sometimes feel cold. Spirits that have moved on to the afterlife but return to the world of the living can float, can touch objects and also feel warm.

-Pizza Sim: Henry and Mike trap William, The Funtimes and Elizabeth in a fake Pizzeria (with permission from Fazbear Entertainment who have also heard rumours of the murderous rabbit man that is tarnishing their image) and burn him together with them. Mike works at the FNAF 2 Location and befriends Jeremy, a chill Security Guard whose philosophy is to "live everyday like your last as you don't know when it will all go away" which Mike is inspired by. Jeremy was Bitten by Mangle in 1987 resulting in the FNAF 2 Location shutting down. Mike grieves for him as he barely got to know him.

-Mike burns down the Afton home, faking his death and goes to look for his Dad to murder him. He also goes on a journey of self discovery and even becomes a mysterious artist.

- William pretends to be sad about Elizabeth's death to get sympathy from Henry and brings him into his plans for child murder so he can learn even more about Remnant.

- William discovers that Circus Baby has Elizabeth's Soul within her and tied to it's murderous AI but instead of doing the sane thing and freeing her, he keeps Elizabeth's soul within the robot to study it and even extracts her remnant and passes it onto the Funtimes, giving his child murder bots the ability to think for themselves out of curiosity. However, this backfires horribly as the Funtimes become increasingly frustrated by their creator giving them lack of freedom to commit murder (which is what leads them to do what they did to Mike as they thought he was their maker)

- The Funtimes are stored away along with Circus Baby.

Elizabeth argues with her father, runs away to the CBPW and dies after being killed by Circus Baby which ruins everything. William however blames Elizabeth for being 'stupid' instead of himself for being a shitty father and reports her death as a 'murder' which was comitted by an unknown assilant.

William sets up Circus Baby's Pizza World as a spin off to Freddy's.

- Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria opened 3 years later despite the incident with new animatronics. Micheal Afton and any friends related to him are banned from entering the place. Henry thinks it's a shit decision but William disagrees and calls Mike a "psychopath". Mike becomes unpopular at school and ironically becomes a victim of bullying. [Timeline Start]

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, THE MULTIPLE ENDINGS!

BAD ENDINGS:

Ending 1: Souls Collided

Happens if the player chooses to surrender to Fake William after he drives Gregory to despair in the West Arcade. Fake William does the transfer process and now has a body and leaves the Pizzaplex with Vanny. Mike and Henry are ignorant of what happened. William Afton is reborn. Also has a short, humorous epilogue with Fake William asking Vanny for alcohol in her apartment only for her to refuse as he's underage.

Ending 2: Obedient Boy

If the player chooses to not leave the room or take the white cards in the drawer when Vanny refuses to let Gregory follow her outside, Vanny comes in hours later and sedates Gregory, putting a blindfold over his head before wheeling him to the underground Pizzeria where the Soul transfer goes off without a hitch and Gregory remains blind to the truth as he dies a painful death...

Ending 3: Flee aka Souls Collided 2

After "Tomorrow is another day Part 1", Gregory isn't kidnapped by Monty and runs away from the Pizzaplex before the lockdown but he still has trouble running far distances because of his weak stamina and, after he's tired out and feels like he's run far enough, he just lies down inside a box in an Alleyway. He sleeps until Dawn but then we see two humanoid rabbit shadows slowly approaching him...This ending basically becomes a second version of the Souls Collided ending.

Ending 4: Sealed Away

If you return to the Underground Pizzeria and find special documents, during the second transfer, Gregory learns how to overpower and seal Fake William within himself during the transfer. Their souls aren't fused and only one of them is locked away. Gregory has a weak artificial soul however and he knows it won't be long before he is fully possessed by Fake William one day but still, he wants to remain alive a bit more before that happens.

Ending 5: Regret (The Worst ending)

Micheal stabs Gregory to death with his knife in Tomorrow is Another Day Part 1. Not once but multiple times due to not listening to Evan. He releases all his years of pain and hatred of his Father onto the boy in a frenzy and disfigures him. We don't see how badly Mike damages Gregory but blood flies everywhere. The boy dies in pain but before he dies, he cries t he's "Sorry for everything".

Henry sees Gregory's corpse but the viewer still doesn't. His expression is one of gut-wrenching horror and disgust. He asks Micheal "what have you done?"

Micheal looks down at Gregory in horror too and sees the boy's body and his Blood becoming Pink Goo. Nonetheless, he heartlessly says he's taken care of the problem and wants to deal with the Other William. They walk away but Henry looks back at Gregory who is nothing but pink goo now.

The "Glitchtrap Afton is still alive and would probably keep searching for Gregory somehow and perhaps even find a new follower" endings

Ending 5: "Disassemble Vanny" [Alternate]

It ends the same way except instead of Gregory being scared and upset at pressing the button, he's fuckin pissed because Vanny took Freddy apart. He watches her die and get torn apart like the mechanical bear but stops watching as he remembers Freddy is still semi-conscious and runs back to him, hoping he's still clinging to life. Gregory says that he can fix him, he just needs to walk with him to the repair room. He begs the animatronic to live but Freddy says he can't as he can already feel himself 'going'. Gregory cries but before Freddy passes away, he tells Gregory to "Never forget: You're not William. You are my Superstar", pats him on the head and then closes his eyes. Mike and Henry tell Gregory to run away as far as he can but also make them promise to not hurt anyone in his new life. Gregory runs away from the Pizzaplex. An advert in the epilogue shows that Fazbear Entertainment closes "due to health reasons", but will reopen the next season. Gregory's fate is left unknown.

Ending 6: Fire Escape [Alternate]

It ends the same way but when he unmasks Vanny and sees that she is dead, Gregory feels upset that Vanessa as well as Freddy had to die like this. Mike and Henry tell Gregory to run away as far as he can but also make them promise to not hurt anyone in his new life like in the "Dissasemble Vanny" ending and Vanessa's spirit watches Gregory run away, mournfully looking over her dead body. Gregory, Mike and Henry's fates are left vague.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, THE JOKE ENDING

Ending 7: Perfect Fusion

Fake William merges with Gregory during the second transfer but something different happens. Instead of Overriding Gregory's soul, the two of them truly merge and become as one. Fake William absorbs Gregory's humanity and empathy ... and suddenly feels sorry for every bad thing that he's ever done.

The remaining protagonists find Vanessa and "William" at the Main Stage area but to their shock, William in Gregory's body says he's Sorry. They are taken back by this sudden development, especially Mike and Henry who start to feel sympathy as William apologises to them for everything. Everyone is like "this is not the way we expected things to go".

William says that he was a terrible father and friend and deserved to be abandoned and that he's proud of Mike. He even says Mike is braver than his father could ever hope to be, and that Henry is the kind of Father that William wishes he could have been. He says that Mike deserves to rest in peace, and deserves to have Henry as a father instead of him. Mike has secretly wanted to hear his dad say that he's proud of him for his whole life and hugs the boy.

Outside the Pizzaplex, William says that he'll probably do what "Gregory" wanted to do: Which is basically starting a new life somewhere else away from all this and he even frees Vanessa from his control, showing that he kept his powers. He waves goodbye and walks into the sunset.

END

That's all for now Folks. I wanted to leave a teaser of Older Gregory but I'm like "No, keep the audience in suspense lol.
