Chapter III – Training is not for a general

It was morning already, when she heard a knock on the door. Her mood was not great, especially during the fact that she couldn't manage to sleep too much. The conditions here were terrible as the bed was truly uncomfortable in comparison to the soft one from her chamber, and also, she kind of missed to have her own personal and private bathroom. After all the battles, a shower was always exactly what she needed, as the hot water on her body always relaxed and helped her sleep so well afterwards.

Opening the door, she found a girl, with red, short hair and brown eyes standing there with what seemed to be a set of clothes. From what they looked like, it was definitely the uniform of what the soldiers from here were wearing.

- What the hell do you want? I am not in the mood for a conversation..., said Esdeath annoyed. Oh, how she also missed the killing and terror provoked to the people like that...it was getting tiring of trying to play the good person. When you are good, people will always try to get advantage of you, that's why it's better to not show them any mercy in order for them to know their place.

The girl gave her the clothes trembling and started to mumble: -Th...The instructor order...ordered me...to..to...give you them, barely finishing the sentence and looking down. 'She is even scarier that Mr. Keith'. But Esdeath just slammed the door shut right into the girl face. There was no way she was going to change into that. She was going to go on the field exactly in her standard general uniform and if that man dared to say anything to her about it, she will show him what it means to try and mess with her. Maybe they didn't know, but she still was a high-ranking general that led armies and tortured anyone that dared to stay in her way…If anybody should had trained these weaklings and give orders, it was her, and in her opinion, those who couldn't keep up, should had been eliminated on the spot. Tthen she felt it...feeling on her knees and a strong pain passes through all her body. Esdeath recognized it.It was different than the one from the day she woke up in this place, it was like the same one she had when...when she consumed the demon extract. And then voices inside her head started to speak, but no word of what they were saying could be understood.

Esdeath put her hands on her head and tried not to scream, when the pain started to ease suddenly, as if it was nothing, and the voices were gone as well. She tried to use her powers, hoping that they returned...but nothing. She felt as if she was punished, as if someone was playing with her by putting her here in the first place and taking her powers so she can be miserable,and in rage, she hit the wall of the room with her fist, before storming out of the door.

There were many soldiers on the field. Many were eager to start the training and others were tired, barely keeping their eyes open. The weather was also good, as there were only a few white clouds on the sky and the sun was shining brightly. When Esdeath reached the field, the others quickly began to whisper while trying to glare at her without being caught. -Is that the...

-Yea, that's the one. She just appeared from nowhere and slashed two Titans...

This was the main topic on everyone lips. It seemed that she already became known here, and couldn't say she was surprised. It would not be too long anyway, before she was going to be acknowledged throughout this entire land, and not too long till the others would know what real power is.

When Keith Shadis appeared, the cadets hurried to form a perfect, straight line, waiting patiently for the inspection and stopping the whispering.

Esdeath remained exactly where she was, refusing to stand in the same line with the others. Seeing that, Keith started to get angry. That girl was definitely a problem maker and he won't tolerate it.When reaching her, he shouted straight into her face; -WHEN A SUPPERIOR APPROACHES YOU, YOU STAND AT ATTENTION AND INTO THE SAME LINE AS THE OTHERS!These made the others shiver. Esdeath on the other hand , looked at him simply with a big smile on her face and Keith froze. He usually had a good intuition about the ones who enrolled in the training and could find out many things about them by looking into their eyes, but she was different. It was as if he was staring into an abyss...a cold, blue and dark one,that could capture your soul at any moment, devouring it. He tried to maintain his position, but he could feel her icy stare piercing right through him, which never happened till now.

-And you are no superior to me, let's make it clear from the start.

She then put her hand on his shoulder and he felt a very sharp pain.

- You might bark as many orders as you want to these dogs, but do not even dare to dream that you can tell me what to do. All the cadets turned their heads to them. It was the first time they heard someone talk to him like that till now and they were eager to see his reaction. To their shock, he left her alone without saying another word.

Esdeath was very pleased with herself. She was sure that he won't do or say anything to piss her off from now.

During the first few sessions of training, it was clear again to her that these people were below her level. She managed to easily beat everyone that tried to provoke her in the hand to hand combat session. Some of them couldn't even get up after and needed medical assistance. This made the others too afraid to approach her, so she skipped this supposed training after all. There had been a few trainings after, most of them regarding the endurance, but they bore her too death, so she skipped them as well.

She finally found something of interest to her after a few weeks of being there.They were finally going to show how to use that gear that was so crucial in the fighting with the Titans.

- NOW LISTEN UP! YOUR LIFE WILL DEPEND ON THIS MECHANISM. IF YOU DON'T LEARN IT TO CONTROL IT, YOU ARE GOING TO DIE !

Shouted Keith, while watching the cadets, to be sure they were paying attention.

- THOSE INCAPABLE OF STAYING UPRIGHT ARE GOING TO BE DISMISSED IIMEDIATELY, AS THEY ARE NOT EVEN WORTH OF BECOMING DECOYS!

Esdeath became excited upon hearing this phrase. This means that the ones that could manage to get around with that gear, were not so weak after all, and she was now looking forward to see how things would turn out. So when Keith asked who was brave enough to be the first one, he was not surprised to find HER coming forward. Neither were the others. He didn't address a word to Esdeath anymore, since that day, letting her do as she pleased, being too afraid to kick her out of training, being sure that she would kill him.That girl should not have been here, as she was not normal. She didn't even seem to be old, looking as if she was in her twenties, but was more skilled than the best soldiers and leaders he had met and seen in fights so far. This training was only a child play for her, and he seriously started to consider if the Titans should be the only beings to be considered dangerous for humanity.

- I hear you wanted to see me, Erwin

- Yes, come in. I need to inform you about something, said the blond man studying carefully what seemed to be a report.

The other entered in the room and didn't sit down, preferring to lean against one of the walls. For a few minutes, they had stayed in silence, till the one that leaned against the wall, broke the silence:

- Are you going to tell me what the hell is going on or do you think I have all the time in the world?

The blond one let go on the report and looked at him seriously:

- This report contains the details from the expeditions of captain Nika and his squad. -Did he manage to find something, Erwin? Or are you planning to use that report as a story to make you fall asleep faster?

A smile appeared on Erwin face.

-If what he stated in the report is true, then we might have found a new member for your squad. And she might be as skilled as you are...Levi.

Hearing this information, Levi looked at Erwin to see if he was telling the truth, but he was aware that he was not the type of person to lie with such things.

He then left without addressing another word to Erwin, knowing exactly what it needed to be done. He was going to find this girl and was going to see for himself if what they said was true or if that report was nothing but a big shit.
