"What do you mean I have to do it all over again?!"
Kagome was not having it. They had just defeated Naraku and put the jewel back together. Then she got sucked into the jewel just to come face to face with Midoriko who is telling her she has to do it again!
Midoriko looked down at the young girl, her face filled with sorrow. "I know it is a bit of a shock but please, bear with me." She sighed, "The Gods have decided that there has been too much unnecessary destruction while you were here. They want you to start over and defeat Naraku sooner rather than later."
Kagome felt like crying. She had just got Inuyasha to feel the same! Now she had to let it all go...
"But what'll happen to Inuyasha and the rest of them? When I come back will they remember me? Will I stay the same age?" She had so many questions but those were the main three she wanted to ask.
"Time will rewind. It will be as if they never even met each other at all. Inuyasha will be pinned to the tree once more and no one will remember you. At least, that was the original plan. The Gods have now decided that you may pick one person to help you redo your journey."
Of course, she immediately thought of Inuyasha but…. "I pick Sesshomaru." 'Sure it would be great for Inuyasha to remember me but Sesshomaru would be the hardest to convince to join, plus we're kinda close now' she thought.
"Very well, I will inform him of the arrangement."
"But what about my age? Am I gonna have to turn 15 again?" She hoped not.
"About that…"
"Oh no…"
"You will be sent back to your time as a 10 year old."
"Ten?!" Kagome wanted to faint. That was eight years ago! She needed to take a breather. 'Ok sure it was a long time ago, but at least dad will be there! At least, for a little while…'
"Yes, ten. The Gods thought it would be best to start you off younger in order for you to have more time before taking you away again."
"Oh, how thoughtful of them," Kagome said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
"You have to go now. The Gods are getting impatient. I'm sorry, but you do not get to say goodbye."
And with that, Kagome was surrounded by a blue/purple hue of light.
With a thump, Kagome made it to the other side of the well. She stood up and dusted herself off and started the climb. As soon as her feet touched the wellhouse ground, she collapsed. "I didn't even get to say goodbye!" She wailed on the ground for a couple of minutes before she heard noise coming from the shrine. She wiped her eyes and made her way outside. From where she was standing she could see that the front door was open.
As she was making her way to the stairs, suddenly, flashes of red and yellow came down the stairs and circled her a couple of times. Then, the red one stopped and looked at her sadly for a bit? Before chasing the yellow light down the streets of Tokyo.
'What was that about.' she thought before remembering they just came from inside the shrine. She ran up the stairs as fast as she could. 'Please be okay.' She froze at the door. 'It'll be ok. Mom will be in the kitchen cooking, Souta will be watching soccer, and Gramps will be fighting with Buyo.'
She pushed the door open and sank to her knees. "No. No no no no! This can't be happening." She got up and ran to her mom who was slightly on top of Souta from trying to protect him. 'I can heal them, I just have to focus!' She lifted up her mom's shirt and saw multiple stab wounds. She put her hands over a wound and watched her hands turn pink. She moved her hand just to see the wound still there. She checked her pulse. No heartbeat. She checked Souta's, then her Dad's and Gramps who were both on the couch. Same results. She called the police and told them what happened.
"We're sending someone over right now," the operator said
Kagome just hung up and walked over to Souta. She dropped to her knees and pulled him close to her. "I'm so sorry Souta! I should've been there to protect you but I wasn't! Please forgive me!" She rocked back and forth while holding him. And that's how the police found her.
She was told to go outside the shrine to talk to the other policemen. "Tell us what happened." "I was walking back to the shrine from the wellhouse when these red and yellow lights broke into my house and ran out. They were so fast, I couldn't see their faces." Kagome cringed at how crazy she sounded. 'No way they're gonna believe me…' "Sure kid…" Kagome rolled her eyes, 'called it.'
Another policeman came and ushered the one questioning her away. "Hey now, didn't we just hear another case like this happening back in the US?" "Yeah you're right… But that doesn't make any sense." Just take her to the station and call the police down there to figure something out." "Okay"
At the station
"What's your name?" The policeman asked. "Kagome Higurashi." "How old are you?" "Ten." "Do you have any family that can take you in?" Kagome thought for a second. "No, both my parents were only childs." "Okay wait here." Kagome sighed 'yea cuz I totally got somewhere else to go. 'I can't believe this is happening to me. First I have to leave Inuyasha and now I don't even have a family… Life is unfair.'
"I know, but please bear with it for now." Kagome looked up. "Midoriko?! What are you doing here? What if someone sees you?!" Kagome yelled in a hushed voice. "Calm yourself. No one can see me but you. I've come to tell you that things will get better if you give them the chance to." "Did you know my family was going to die?" "No, and I am sorry that they did. However, I have to get to the point. You are going to be sent away to a new land so I've come bearing gifts." She touched Kagome's head. "I have given you the ability to speak English. You will need it in the very near future. Goodbye." And with that she was back inside the jewel that rests in Kagome.
"She never gives me the chance to say bye…" Kagome said, slightly annoyed. "What did you say?" Kagome looked up to see a different policeman standing before her. "Oh nothing," she smiled and said. The policeman looked at her strangely. "Okay well we're sending you away." 'When Midoriko says soon she means soon!' "Where am I going?" "You're gonna go stay with a Detective named Joe West in the US, Central City since he's working on a similar case. You leave tonight." "Tonight?!" "Yeah kid let's go"
It was a silent trip but they finally got to the airport when the officer said, "It's a 13 hour trip so you won't get there until morning in their time zone. Look for a man holding a sign with your name on it." The man handed over the airplane ticket and Kagome walked through the gates without looking back and boarded the plane. 'I'll stay strong for you guys,' she thought as the plane took off.
13 hours later
"Now arriving at Central City Airport." The voice over the intercom said. Kagome opened her eyes groggily. 'Here already? Well I guess I did have a long night…' When the plane landed she stood up, stretched and looked at the time. "I hope this isn't too early for them to pick me up."
As soon as Kagome got off the plane she saw a huge sign with her name on it and hearts around it. She walked up to the man holding it. "You must be Kagome." He said and smiled. She was surprised by how well he pronounced it, probably from hearing the policemen say it so much. She smiled back and replied, "and you must be Mr. West." "Please, call me Joe." And he gestured for her to follow him. As they were walking to the police car she said, "the sign is very pretty, did you decorate it yourself?" He glanced down at the teasing tone she had and smiled, "no my daughter helped decorate it, she said you'd appreciate the effort." He opened the passenger side door for her and she said, "I do." He closed the door and went around to get in. He reached to the back and grabbed a stuffed animal. "This is for you too, it was my idea." Kagome grabbed it from him and looked at it. It was a white dog. Tears came to Kagome's eyes and she hugged it close to her. "I love it, thank you so much! I'll name him Inumaru." "Inumaru?" "Yeah, a mixture of two of my old friends' names. They loved dogs," she explained. "That's a pretty cool name, "Inumaru", he tried out. Kagome giggled.
Half an hour later they pull up to a house. Kagome opens her door and stands by the car. "The kids are in school right now, they won't be back for another couple of hours. In the meantime we can eat and watch Tv, sound good?" Joe said as he unlocked the front of the door. "Kagome looked up to him and said, "sounds great." "So what do you wanna eat? We can order some pizza, Mexican, Chinese? But not because you're like- you know- from Asia-." Kagome started laughing, "It's ok we can just make something here." Kagome didn't feel like spending someone else's money so soon. "Uh yeah sure, ever had a ham sandwich with chips?" Kagome shook her head. "Ouuu girl you are missing out, let's get started." They went into the kitchen and Joe showed her what to do. "Now, you just put the chips right in the middle, put the bread on top, press down and voila! Now take a bite and tell me how that tastes?" Kagome took a bite of her sandwich and her eyes lit up. "It's good huh? Now let's take this to the living room," Joe said smiling.
They sat on the couch and watched TV for hours until they heard the door unlocking. "Must be the kids." Joe said as he started walking towards the door. Kagome slowly trailed behind him, her heart pounding in her chest. 'Pull it together Kagome! You have defeated many demons, a couple of kids can't scare you! Yeah…. But what if they don't like me? Oh Kami, please let them like me!" Just then, two kids walked in. One, she noticed, looked a little like Joe. The other looked nothing like him.
"Hey guys, I got someone I want to introduce to you." Kagome stepped from behind Joe and waved. "Hi, I'm Kagome Higurashi." she bowed, internally cringing. The girl stepped forward, "hey, I'm Iris and this is Barry," she pointed to the boy next to her. "You don't have to bow by the way," the girl smiled. Kagome rubbed the back of her head, "sorry, old habits. So not to be rude but, are you guys related?"
Joe answered, "No. Barry is here for the same reason you are." "Really?" Kagome looked at Joe and then back to Barry. She wrapped her arms around him in a hug. "I'm so sorry," she whispered, surrounding him in a calming aura.
Surprising everyone, Barry wrapped his arms around her and said, "I'm sorry too."
And that's how a bond formed around Barry Allen and Kagome Higurashi.
