Chapter 7 – Powers and memories – part 1

- Levi, what was that?! And what happened to Esdeath?

Hange was trying to understand what was going on while looking at the scene intrigued. Levi just glared at the woman he was holding and for the first time, he was not entirely convinced if he should tell them anything yet about what he had witnessed, not being sure he had understood this at all.

He was relieved when he heard Erwin saying that they should leave for now, as the Titans were starting to get closer. The bodies of the soldiers that fought and lost their lives had been already retrieved by his squad and placed in the carriages. - Levi, place Esdeath in the other carriage. Hange, stay beside her and make sure she is fine in case she wakes up. As Hange nodded, Levi went to place her in the carriage. He decided already that before he was going to conclude everything that happened till now, he needed to hear from her as well.

- She is quite impressive, isn't she? I believe she might be of good use to battle against them. Levi just looked at Erwin and sighed.

- She might be more dangerous than you realize, Erwin...did you even find out anything about where she came from? Or any relevant information?

- Unfortunately, no...and no one else seems to know anything about her as well. But know that I can count on you and your team to find out more. Erwin then turned his head towards the carriage in which Hange was with Esdeath.

- Hange, how is the situation with her? Hange flinched at the sound of her name. - She is still passed out. I had to check for injuries and to see if she is still alive, as her skin is so cold, almost like a corpse... Do you think it has something to do with that Titan?

- That Titan also seemed to produce ice, so that must have affected her temperature when she hit it. You have fought as well with it, Levi...what do you think? Levi preferred to ignore the question for now and just shrug his shoulders. But he was decided that he was going to obtain the answers one way or another.

When Esdeath woke up, she felt for the first time the familiar comfiness of her bed, until she opened her eyes and realized that this was not her chamber. She didn't know where she was, but the room was neither big nor small, lit by some candles.

She got up, surprised to see Levi standing on a chair near a window, holding a cup. How he was holding the cup was interesting. Never in her life had she recalled ever seeing a person holding and drinking from a cup in that way.

- You sure took your time, brat. You passed out for a couple of hours.

- Did I? Hope that I didn't miss anything important, especially the cleaning duty. She waited for a reaction from him, but he just took a long sip from his cup.

-Why are you here anyway? Don't tell me you were worried about me, laughed Esdeath. But her laughter stopped when he took out a tiny piece of ice from his jacket pocket. That piece of ice...she couldn't have anything to do with it, or did she? That would have been exactly

- Who the hell are you?! What are you?! He asked this question in such a demanding tone, which made her eyes sparkle. So that's why he was here, waiting so patiently and good for her to wake up. And was she going to tell him everything, just because he used that tone? No.

- Why should I tell you anything? Do you think you can intimidate me with that look on your face or the tone of your voice? I've met countless men that were stronger than you can imagine, and they all ended at my feet...you will probably end up the same anyway, so you can start by now. She finished her sentence by putting her leg on his chest.

-Tch...you say that you are strong and that countless men were at your feet? Grabbing her leg, he threw her with a strong force towards the wall. There was never a soldier that got on his nerves as she did. Then she got up and laughed. That laugh was however the most sinister one he had ever heard.

- That was fun...you truly know how to excite a woman, you know? Now, she got up and looked at him with that stare he was quite familiar with, shall I do the same?

Ice. Ice was surrounding the entire room. Levi looked around, studying what was happening. This was all too real, and that's when he felt something coming towards him, and he managed to avoid it on time. There were sharp pieces of ice, which would have pierced his whole body.

-Oh, your reflexes are quite marvelous, Levi. Should we have another round? I get bored so easily, you know.

There were even more pieces coming now. So he grabbed quickly the table and use it as a shield, but a couple of them inflicted him with some minor injuries. There was no way he was going to escape this unless he found a way to persuade this maniac woman to stop, as the entire room looked like it had been swallowed by a sea of ice.

- I am disappointed, Levi... I thought I was going to have more fun with you...

-Can you just shut up? He stood up and touched his left cheek. It was bleeding. Then he looked at her, but Esdeath could not see in his eyes what she wanted to see...fear. He wasn't even trembling. It was as if he was not impressed at all by her demonstration of power.

- You wanted to know who I am...you should be thanking me that you are still capable of uttering words.

- I don't know what the fuck you are, or why should I give a shit about what you can do. You said you were the strongest, but how can any idiot believe that when you passed out after that fight with only one Titan? Levi advanced towards her upon saying this. Esdeath was gritting her teeth at his remark, deciding she was going to kill him there. As she had recovered her powers, there was no need for her to play this role of a good soldier anymore. She was going to bury this whole world in ice anyway, along with the people, Titans, being confident that she could easily return to her world after. But her view blurred and her thoughts stopped when a strong headache gripped her.

It was happening again and in the middle of this. She put her hands on her head and kneeled on the ground, as everything around her became a mist. Scenes from before were starting to unfold similarly as before. She saw herself using her powers to fight with the rebels. Oh, she now remembered that very well, loving to crush and torture them, as they were nothing more than infection for her that had to be eradicated. Then there were the fights she led and won, and then...him. She was in love once, true, with him, but he was on the side of those scumbags, having been brainwashed by them and not knowing what was good for him.

Only that now, his image was clear, and she finally understood why she was here... Levi couldn't hide his expression when she caught him and pinned him down, as he thought he could knock her over. What was more shocking for him was when he saw the way she was staring at him, so different than before

- I remember who you are...and no one can take you now from me.

And she kissed him.

Author note 2: Just to clarify some things, Esdeath did not recover her powers as yet, she will have periods when she is going to be able to use them, and periods where she won't be able to.
And I just thought that since her mind is still not stable (not that she was a very stable person :))), her mind had replaced Tatsumi with Levi, so now Levi will have more problems and drama to deal with, poor him...
