Adrians POV
We were once again sitting on the fire in front of the tent eating sandwiches and to my delight she even took another one.
"I have been thinking" I than said.
"You do that a lot these days" she said winking at me and I chuckled.
"I guess you´re rubbing off on me" I said still smiling.
She laughed as well and snuggled closer into my arm.
"We should get in touch with Jacky" I went on.
Sydney looked up at me.
"You know, we could really use magical backup on our way back to Pennsylvania" I went on.
I was still convinced, that court would be safe, but I also was realistic and as much as I knew about the alchemists, I knew they were still looking for us, or well, Sydney.
"Right, magic" she said and I saw a soupcon of panic in her eyes.
Sydneys POV
Magic, even the sound of the word made me feel twitchy.
"How would you even get in touch with her?" I asked after a while but than answered the question myself before he could "Dreamwalking?"
He nodded "Are you okay with that?" he asked.
I sighed "No... not really, but you´re right. We need every defense we can get" I said, not sure, if I really could be a benefit in this area.
But I sure did know the alchemists.
We went to bed early that night and as soon as my head hit the pillow, I felt how tiered I really was.
I felt Adrians arms around me and snuggled closer to him. I was asleep in no time.
When I woke up, Adrian was already up making coffee.
Adrian waiting with coffee for me. I really could get used to that view every morning.
"Aren´t you the house man" I teased taking the few steps to his side.
"You know, I try" he said closing the small gap between us kissing me gently.
It took a while before I was able to let go of him. It was just to perfect to kiss him and feel him close to me.
Adrians POV
"I spoke to Jacky last night" I said when Sydney had settled down on the blanket on the ground.
She nodded and looked at me expectantly.
"She wants to talk to you" I went on.
"Okay" she said uneasy.
"She gave me her number, so we could reach her. We only need to buy a phone"
Sydney nodded.
"So we´ll do that than I guess" she said.
Sydneys POV
Somehow I had hoped, that contacting Jacky wouldn´t be that easy and that it would give me more time to prepare for magic.
Even after all I recently found out, magic was something that scared me the most.
After we were done packing, we were on our way back to the small town we´d stopped the day before.
I felt Adrians eyes on me and tried to put up a strong face, but he seemed to look right through it.
He didn´t exactly say so and he didn´t talk about it with me, but he seemed pretty eager to take my mind of the subject.
"So you remember Rose, huh?" he asked.
I smiled "Jep".
And I also remembered him being with her than and how absolutely gorgeous she looked with her dark almond eyes and her trained body.
We didn´t resemble at all I realized.
It wasn´t like I felt completely bad about my body and fact was, I had a more than handsome boyfriend that seemed to like my appearance, but thinking of Rose and him together made me feel a bit self-conscious.
"You two dated back in the days" I stated after a while.
"Of course you remember that" he than chuckled.
"Well yes, she is gorgeous" I went on and he looked at me.
There was curiosity in the way he was looking at me, like he was trying to figure out where I was going with that.
I was curious about that myself.
"What´s that supposed to mean?" he than asked, his eyes still on me.
I felt his gaze on me, but kept my eyes on the road.
"Nothing. Just that she is beautiful" I said.
"You are beautiful" he said and I smiled against my will.
He looked at me and I looked back at him.
"I guess" I said quietly.
"Well Sage, did you just accept a compliment from me?" he asked with raised eyebrows.
I laughed "Maybe" I replied.
"What happened between you two?" I asked after a while.
"That´s in the past" he said and I looked at him.
What was? Was he still hung up on her?
"Okay" I muttered unsure how I was feeling about that.
"Turned out there wasn´t enough russian warrior in me I guess" he went on.
"Dimitri" I said and he nodded.
We were standing at a red light and it gave me the opportunity to look at him for a moment.
I searched his face for some regret or discomfort, but he was still smiling at me.
"Sage, stop looking at me like that" he than said shaking his head.
"Like I said, it´s in the past" he went on taking my hand.
"I am with you and that´s all that matters. It´s all I want. It´s all I ever want".
My stomach felt fluttery and for a moment I was lost in his eyes and the words he just said to me.
He was leaning in and I closed my eyes, knowing I would feel his lips on mine any second now.
I was harshly brought back to reality, when someone behind me started honking.
Adrian turned around and grimaced.
"Way to crash a moment" he muttered and I chuckled despite myself.
He was right though.
We were passing the gas station and the little supermarket and before Adrian pointed it out, I saw the store myself.
"Over there" he said pointing to a small store.
Until this moment he really had managed to take my mind of things.
Damn it! I told myself. I really needed to get a grip on my issues with magic.
