"Daddy, daddy." Janik began to open his eyes when hearing his daughter's voice. He could feel a light shining in from a window. When he opened them fully he could see his sons and Jessica. He was confused. "Where, where am I?" he asked. Janik rubbed his eyes one more time to make sure he was seeing things correctly. When he reopened, standing in front of him were his sons and Jessica. Jessica knelt down, "Daddy, you had a fall when we were in the pub. The doctors in Birmingham said it would be best for us to go back home to America to bring you to the hospital here in New York. You and I got in yesterday." He sat up and got a little dizzy, Travis moved to his father's side, "Dad, don't sit up too quick." In walked in a doctor. "Mr. Swavorski you're awake. Good. My name is Doctor Brenner. Let's talk about what happened to you." The doctor took a flashlight examining Janik's eyes. "Do you remember anything?" Janik rubbed his forehead, "I remember we were at the pub celebrating. I took a sip of my drink and we were just beginning our night. And then I felt a pain in my chest. My vision became blurry and I felt like I couldn't stand." Doctor Brenner wrote something down and asked, "Have you ever felt this pain before?" He was afraid to answer this question knowing his kids would hear the truth. "Yes," Janik said. Jess had a look of shock on her face as well as her brothers. "When daddy?" she questioned. "Only one other time, when ya know that thing happened with Greg and you." The doctor was writing this all down. "Tell me about that time." Janik started, "Well I felt the sharp pain and I grabbed my chest, but it went away. It didn't last for long." "Same feeling?" Dr. Brenner asked. "Yes, same pain." Dr. Brenner flipped Janik's chart over one more time.
"Mr. Swavorski, we are going to keep you overnight and run some test for a while and monitor you." Janik shook his head no. He did not understand why he had to stay in the hospital. "Why whats wrong with me?" He looked at his children, "Please, tell me whats wrong with me." "Dad," Joe walked towards his dad. "Listen, they think you had a heart attack and they just need time to make sure you are ok." Mike continued, "Dad we need to make sure the medicine is doing everything it should be so we decided," he looked back at his siblings. "We decided you and Jessica are going to stay here in New York until you are ok. And when we say ok, we mean when you are able to return back home and it's safe." "Mr. Swavorski we just want to make sure your heart is ok before you go back oversees. You have already been responding well, we just want to make sure you are at your best. Making you travel back and forth could be a lot on your health." Dr. Brenner walked out of the room. "Heart attack?" he questioned looking at his kids. Jessica spoke first, "Daddy why didn't you say anything the first time?" Janik took a deep breath, "It was when Tommy told us you had gotten taken..." Jess grabbed on to her fathers hand and squeezed it. A tear fell down her face that she wiped away. "None of us are leaving till we know you're ok."
A few hours had gone by and visiting hours were over. Jessica and her brothers went back to Travis's house. She went to the phone right away and sat their waiting. "Hi Lizzie its Jess. Is Michael there?" Lizzie had put the phone down and she could hear some talking in the background. She heard the phone get picked up. "Hey babe," Michael said. Jess loved his accent. It's what drew her to him first. His voice. "I miss you," Jess said. He could hear the sadness in her voice. "I miss you so much. Hows your father?" He could hear her begin to sniffle, "Whats wrong Jess?" Jess responded, "The doctors think my dad had a heart attack. They want to keep him here till they are sure the medicine is working properly." Michael chimed in, "So how long do you think you guys will have to stay there?" Jess sighed, "Michael I honestly don't know. It could be a few more weeks, I really don't know." "Babe please stop crying I hate when you cry. Listen I will call you everyday until you're back here with me ok?" Jess tried to get her composure together. "Ok." Michael saw Polly shoot him a look that he needed to get back to work. "Babe, listen I hate to do this to you, but I have to get back to work. Call me later, I love you." "I love you too," she said and Michael hung up. Michael walked back into his office. Polly followed. "Everything ok?" "Honestly mom, she doesn't know when she and Janik will be home. The doctors think he had a heart attack and before they want to let him come back here they want to make sure the medicine is working properly. It could take weeks, maybe even a month. I just was hoping when the whole Blake family drama was over her and I could begin to move forward with our lives together." Polly knew Michael wanted to make everything right from before Jess had went to New York. She also knew he had gotten a ring in New York with Jess's father and brothers and he was eager to put it on her finger. "Everything will be alright Michael. I promise."
Meanwhile in New York, Jess had hung up the phone with Michael and sat around the dinner table with her brothers. Travis's wife Marie had cooked Jessica's favorite meal and sat down across from her. Before anyone could speak her brothers started to scarf their meal down as if they hadn't eaten in days. Marie rolled her eyes, "Well its nice to finally have someone else in this house who eats normal." Jessica laughed as she pushed her food on her plate. She hadn't been hungry and had lost a lot of weight. These past months had been difficult for her. The meal was her favorite and she could hear her stomach growling until she had put her fork in her looked up. "Honey, you know I cant resist your cooking, and well you know out of all of our wives you're the best cook." Marie shook her head and smiled. Joe spoke with food in his mouth, "Don't tell Denise I agreed to that statement," and they all laughed. Jess began to eat, chicken marsala over pasta. She hadn't had a home cooked meal like this in forever. Times like this is when she missed living in the states.
Marie spoke, "So Jess, what do you have on your agenda while here in New York?" Jess swallowed her pasta and thought for a second. "Well obvious one is shopping." Mike joined in, "Don't you have enough clothes?" Then Joe, "Here you go again," then Travis, "Don't bring Marie with you." Jess stuck up her middle finger at all of them, "For the record I make my own money thank you very much and you can never have too much clothes and if Marie wants to come Travis she will come and I will make sure she rings up a huge bill." Jess stuck her tongue out at Travis and he threw his arms up in the air, "Whatever." Jess continued, "I want to get dinner at a few of our favorite places, I also told dad we can get some of those pierogis from our favorite Polish place." She paused before she said her last thing, "I also was uh thinking of going to see mom. If any of you guys wanted to come with me." The table got quiet. Jess was pushing her food on her plate with her fork not wanting to look at her brother's faces. She personally hadn't seen her mom in years; she wasn't sure about them. Travis spoke, "You know, I think it would be a really great idea to all go together as a family, maybe when dad gets out of the hospital?" Jessica looked up and smiled, "That's a great idea." Joe and Mike agreed as well.
A few weeks later, The past few weeks had flew by. Jessica was having the best time with her family. They ate at her favorite restaurants and she had shopped with Marie. She had met up with a few old friends and they had visited all of Jess's favorite places in the city. The doctors had been planning to let Janik out tomorrow. The medicine had been working extremely well and he was stronger than ever. Jess and Marie cleaned and prepped the house all day to make sure the house was perfect for when Janik came home. Jess plopped herself on the couch, the first time she had sat down all day and closed her eyes. There was a knock at the front door. Travis popped his head up from the couch, "Jess can you get it we are all busy." Jess opened her one eye, "Of course all 3 of you are busy as always." She opened her other eye and rolled off the couch. She began walking towards the front door. "You sure you don't want to move back here? You could be the personal door opener for us," her brothers laughed. Her hand was on the doorknob, she looked back and stuck her tongue out, "You are all not even funny," she yelled as she turned towards the open door. She screamed.
