Our Time Once Again
Summary: *Rewrite. After Enchancia's attacked and Sofía and Amber are orphaned, Elena is able to sympathize, helping one learn to rule and another move on in her own way.
Disclaimer: I don't own Sofía the first or Elena of Avalor. Sofía wise this is pre Mystic Isles. Elena wise the magic within never existed.
Chapter One
It had ended abruptly when the guards had managed to take away the castle's invader.
But Sofia still took a shaky breath as she came out from behind the curtain that James had asked her to hide in.
All she remembered was screaming.
As she walked around, keeping the tears in her eyes at bay upon spotting Roland at her mother's side, their bodies slumped over each other.
"Sofia?"
Sofia nearly jumped at the noise, getting some blood splatter on her amulet before seeing Amber, whose dress was caked with blood, take her hand.
"Did we survive?" Sofia asked quietly.
Amber nodded sadly. "We did. B-But James didn't." A lump filled her throat. "Mother and Daddy didn't either."
Sofia didn't dare ask where James' body was, feeling alarmed by the cut on her sister's cheek.
"Did the intruder hurt you?" She gasped.
"Only because I refused to let him win!" Amber chuckled. "Don't worry, Cedric will be able to fix it."
Sofia hoped so, hiding back a shudder.
She never imagined upon waking up that she and Amber would be orphans in a couple hours.
"Amber, I'm sorry but I need to leave." Sofia places a hand on her sister's uncut cheek. "It hurts."
"Where will you go?" Amber wondered.
"Avalor. Can you please get someone to escort me to one of the docks?"
"You're not going alone."
"But Amber—" Soda started.
"Sofia, as your sister, I'm forbidding you from traveling to Avalor by yourself when we just lost our parents and brother!" Amber growled.
Sofia flinched at her sister's tone of voice, being brought back to the voice of the intruder.
The one who took away their family.
Amber noticed her flinch, realizing what she had done. She hadn't meant to be that way but she wanted to be lucid with her sister that going to Avalor was not appropriate at the moment.
Before she could apologize, she saw Sofia's amulet swing as the younger girl sprinted to her room.
...
Oceans away in the kingdom of Avalor, crown princess Elena Castillo Flores felt a disturbance in the air.
The skies of Avalor were bluer than ever but she couldn't shake the disturbance from her mind.
She felt like something was out of place. She hadn't seen Sofia in months since her freedom from the amulet but felt something was off about the younger girl.
At the moment at least.
Something was wrong.
This called for an emergency meeting of the grand council.
"Ay Elena what is the meaning of this?" Esteban grumbled as he sat down in his chair.
"I'm sorry but I feel a disturbance and I don't know why," Elena confessed, stroking the end of her ponytail nervously. "Sofia's involved somehow and—" She paused, hearing Gabe come into the room. "Yes?"
Gabe cleared his throat, stepping towards everyone in the room. "There's been an invasion in Enchancia. We don't know what the outcome is at the moment but when I or any of the guards have word, we'll tell you."
"Gracias Gabe. Estás despedido."
The guard gave her a sympathetic smile before stepping out of the room as Elena put her face in her hands.
Naomi glanced sympathetically at her friend's distress, patting her shoulder. She knew how close Elena and Sofia were due to their connection with the amulet and like everyone else in the room hoped that whatever the outcome was in Enchancia didn't involve the loss of a princess who helped save both Avalor and their crown princess.
Because if it did, Elena would surly break.
…
"Princess Amber may I speak to you for a moment?"
Amber looked up at Baileywick and nodded softly. "Anything to block out Sofia's crying. I've never known her to get this upset."
"Well this morning has been a big change for you two," Baileywick sympathized. "You two woke up to a different world and now your parents and Prince James are dead. Speaking of him, it turns out that your brother wasn't heir to throne after all."
"Baileywick, I don't understand. Why not?"
"Because you're the actual heir. Your father was waiting to tell you at the right time."
Amber gasped, putting a hand to her mouth. "Daddy lied to me?" Her confusion turned to anger as she burst into tears. "I thought James would be heir all my life! I always thought I'd be second in line but the actual heir?! I don't know how to feel about this Baileywick."
The steward rubbed her back, seeing tears of anguish roll down Amber's face. "I know it's so sudden but you'll be a great queen one day. I just know it."
He watched as she sniffed before giving her a handkerchief as she blew her nose into it.
"I won't get used to it," Amber admitted. "But thank you for consoling me Baileywick."
The steward nodded softly, kissing her cheek. "It's what I'm here for. Is there anything else you need?"
"No. I just need some time to think about everything."
"I understand."
Baileywick gave Amber a gentle embrace before leaving her room. He hated having to break the news to her like that.
Just that very morning she and James were getting into a playful scuffle over something infantile and now she had the responsibility of a kingdom on her young shoulders.
Sofia didn't have it easier either as Baileywick heard soft cries coming from her bedroom door.
He didn't have to ask why she was crying because he already knew why.
She and Amber only had each other now. Their innocence and family were taken away from them in a matter of moments which angered Baileywick.
It wasn't fair to their kingdom and it certainly wasn't fair to the two sisters who weren't expecting any of this.
If only things had been different from what they were now then everything would be okay.
But they weren't and Baileywick knew it despite the everlasting ache in his heart that only thought of Sofia and Amber in their current situation.
Who were going to look after them now?
Time would only tell as Baileywick went about his way and tried his best not to disturb the two grieving sisters in anyway possible.
