Day 10: Let's all go to the Theatre, Fireday the 28th Rova, 4707

Today started out fairly well. We all woke up at our normal times, Jonathan was making a scrumptious breakfast, Ameiko was sitting at our table with the rest of the group. Everyone was up and ready to go. Savah was even just arriving at the Inn with the large container that she had been tasked to make. I looked over the box and it seemed to be in good condition. I hope it will work. It looks like I can easily do several layers at the same time. I cut the fabric up into the patterns that would be needed for the armor. Savah had also brought the powdered living metal and the other metals that I had requested. We set everything up and I asked Zantus to summon a fire elemental. He did and the elemental appeared in front of him. He used an item to be able to tell the fire elemental to check that the welds were good and that the glass would hold. It verified that it would. He sent it back. I set up the fabric with the boron paste and the nickel solution. I set up the box and the fire got the everything into the proper conditions. I looked over everything a second and third time. Everything looked to be perfect. I double checked my calculations and got everything started. I flooded the chamber with the Argon I had isolated last night after I could not fall asleep. I had Zantus summon an air elemental and Faunra asked the thing to check if the gas that was in the box was "inert". I responded to the positive, and likewise to the question of whether it was proof against leaking. It was returned to the plane of Air, and the project continued. I carefully kept the fire at the right temperature.

It was a four-hour task, so other people helped and watched when I had to leave to take a break. The Mayor must have heard that we were up to something, because she dropped by and asked us a few questions. Dame Rebekah answered them as best we could and acknowledged that we would answer any questions she had when this experiment was completed. After a bit, some food and drink was brought in for everyone, and everyone partook of the meal. After the four hours at temperature were up, we removed the container from the oven. I opened up the container, and found that the fabric was black in color. Everyone thought that the material had just burned, but I thought differently. I took one of my knives and tried to cut the fabric. It didn't cut. I offered it to others to try, and they could not cut it either.

I got out the forms that we had for this purpose. I placed the correct pieces in the proper places. I mixed up the powders with the alchemical cement. I mixed it up with water from a create water spell provided by Dame Rebekah in an invisible crucible created by Jonathan. I spread the alchemical cement over the areas that needed to be reinforced and strengthened. I explained that the self-healing nature of the living metal should provide a bonding nature for the plates. After twenty minutes, the areas that had multiple layers were glued together with the alchemical glue and the various buckles and catches were also attached to the armor. I told everyone that we would have to wait for a few ours for everything to cure now. Everyone was still kind of skeptical, but had seen that cutting the material was difficult. I asked if we had anything else to do before the rest of the events that we have to do today. Jonathan, Dame Rebekah, and Faunra remembered that they had to pick up their garb for the Theater tonight. With the rest of my group off, the Mayor came forward to ask me about the events of yesterday. I relayed as much as I could easily recall. I included most of it, without adding in the stuff we had taken from the catacombs. She nodded to that and commented that she was glad that we made it through and had defeated that threat to the town.

I ensured that she knew what we had suffered and what was likely coming up from the goblins in the region. She acknowledged it and noted that hopefully Belor would be back soon with help. The armor was drying on the forms and if everything works, we will have revolutionized the process of armor fabrication in this area. Father Zantus takes a look over the armor and asks if there would be a way to have armor like this made for his acolytes. I told him that if this works, I would have to finish on my group's armor, but then we would have to figure out what Savah would need for reimbursement for the process and materials. He nodded and went off to talk to her. What I ended up making was something out of a drawing I had seen online somewhere. I'm sure that it was out of a game, but I can't remember which game. I tried to make it as flexible as I could to not restrict the movements of the people who might wear it. The main thing that it was missing was a helmet, because that was something that I felt needed more research. I wanted to make sure that this would work before putting someone's brain at risk.

By the time the rest of the group had gotten back, Father Zantus had asked if there was any further spell casting that was needed. I told him no, so he and the acolytes went back to the Cathedral. He asked to see how it looked after everything was done. The Mayor had also left, leaving Savah, Ameiko, and myself. Ameiko asked if I thought that this would be a good thing for this town. I told her that if my armor worked, it used materials bought in this town, by people who worked in this town, and could be used to guard those who protected this town. If she didn't want to use her Glassworks to build this in the future, I could understand. I added that it could help protect adventurers for years to come. She smiled at that and Savah asked what the big deal about this armor was. I asked her how long it took to make a chain shirt. She told me that on average, a chain shirt can be made in a month with a little help. I asked her how long it took to make this armor. She smugly said that she would have to look into how long it took to make the cotton and everything.

I sighed and just hung my head a bit in exasperation. She laughed and said that she understood what I was trying to say. She also noted that if this worked, she would need to work with Rynshinn a lot more. She asked where I had gotten the alchemical materials. I told her it was Nisk. It was then that I found out that Nisk's goods were not exactly consistent. Shit, I hope everything I bought works fine. I checked the armor and the substrate was still a wasn't completely set. I guessed that it would take another half an hour or so. I asked everyone what they wanted to do for the next half an hour. Ameiko asked if I had the video I had taken of the performance available. I got my tablet out and quickly transferred the video from my phone to my tablet. I set the tablet up to play. Everyone got to see the first trial video I had ever taken on this world. I realized as I watched it that this place was Michael Bay's dream. Spells to do special effects, illusions apparently can't be disbelieved unless you interact with them, Fireballs for explosions. I mean, the sky would be the limits.

The video wrapped up and I went over to the armor. Everything was dried and set. I asked Dame Rebekah if she was willing to try it out. She was a bit cautious but took her armor off and put the new armor on. It fit fairly well, a lot better than her former armor. Due to the way this armor was made, the surface of the armor looks like a shining blend of silver and green with veins of black running through it (excess boron carbide that was added to the mix). I had imprinted a breastplate a detailed longsword icon, blade pointed down, just like Dame Rebekah's shield, and had the indention filled with some of the copper that had melted from the copper piece I used to test the temperature of the fire. She told me it felt like she was wearing nothing compared to her current armor. Without warning, a ball bearing flew across the room and struck the armor full force. There was a tiny dent on the armor, but the ball bearing was damaged. I got worried at that, but then I noticed that the armor was repairing itself while we watched. I asked Dame Rebekah if she had been hurt by the hit. She told me no more than she would have if the armor was steel. Savah was impressed. Dame Rebekah and Jonathan were impressed by the fact that we had made something at least as strong as steel Within a second, I saw another thing flash past me. Faunra had launched an arrow at the armor.

The obsidian arrowhead shattered against the Boron Carbide Nanotube armor. At least it was proof against that. Dame Rebekah celebrated this armor by trying to do cartwheels. She was laughing as she failed time after time, due to her own inability. Faunra and Jonathan finally went over to help her, and she commented that this armor was much less imposing than her regular armor. I looked over to both Ameiko and Savah, who were watching these tests the whole time. I went up to them, and told them that I would give them both the secrets of this as long as they worked together and as long as three more suits were made for the group. Savah immediately wanted to start production, but Ameiko was hesitant. I could tell that she didn't want to be involved with this, especially because this was where her father and brother had died. I told her that if she didn't want to be involved, I would understand, but that this material would help keep this town, and possibly others in the future, safe from the goblins that had done these deeds. She could even get some made for herself.

She wanted me to supervise the people who would be making it, and I told her that I would help for the first few attempts after the rest of my groups armor was made, but that there were issues around Sandpoint that I would have to help my group confront. I would do my best to train up people to make sure that everything is correct. I also told her that I would work with whoever I had to work with to make sure that the materials were of sufficient quality. I turned to Savah and asked her if she had the materials to make another three suits. She said that she could get them within a few days. I told her that this would be great. If she could make two more boxes similar to what she had made previously, we could make three suits at the same time, as long as we got some help to do everything.

Her eyes lit up when she realized that we could make three suits that strong in the time it took to make a simple wooden shield. I told her that the procedure was exacting, and that the first few suits of armor would probably be spoken for by either Father Zantus or the Mayor, but that she would likely be remunerated for them. She acknowledged that, likely making a quick calculation of how much it cost to get the materials that we had used for this and comparing it to how much she was going to make by selling the equipment that we had off-loaded on her. Seeing the dollar signs of being able to have a suit of armor made while the person waits was a big benefit to her. She agreed to have the rest of the materials brought in and told me that it wouldn't be until the materials got in that she could get me the money for the other materials that I had sourced. I told her that if she could get the cotton (six yards per suit of armor) and the alchemical goods (glue and cement in specific quantities, and false copper) we can get the last ingredient in town. She was working through the numbers in her head and they must have come out okay because she agreed, after I wrote down exactly everything that I was needing. She conferred with Ameiko on something, there was a shaking of hands, and an agreement on their own.

It was after this that Dame Rebekah noted that the time was getting late, and that we needed to get dressed for the theater. Savah looked at the gowns and the outfit that Dame Rebekah, Faunra, and Jonathan had come back with and realized that she would be a bit under-dressed going in what she was wearing. She made her goodbyes and rushed off to do whatever she felt she had to do to be ready. I yelled after her that I would meet her at the Theater. She yelled back something else that I took as an affirmation and was gone. Ameiko was smiling at me, and the rest of the group were as well. Ameiko told me that she was thinking that this was a romantic pursuit. I blanched. I was looking at this from the perspective of a business dinner. Crap. Now I had a tight rope to walk. We all headed back to Rusty Dragon to get changed, Dame Rebekah proudly sporting her green, silver, and black armor with the sigil of Iomedae set into the breast over the heart. I think I'm going to have to get her a cape at this point.

Faunra sidled up to me during the walk back and asked if all of the suits of armor had to look like that. I said that the symbol was easily changeable, but the materials that it was made of might be a bit difficult to change up. I did note that it could always be painted over or pigmented, but also that it was probably no more difficult to hide in than her chain shirt. She realized where I thought I was heading, but noted that she just didn't want it to match exactly. I informed her that the mix would likely be slightly different every time, with the slight changes of the weave pattern of the cotton. She was happy with that, I think. She broke off to talk to Shalelu about something.

Jonathan pulled up to me next, and reminded me that he can't wear armor, I told him that yes, I remembered that. He would have to have the cash payout rather than the armor, and I would hope that he could find something that would protect him sufficiently. The fact that the Glassworks could make three suits at a time means that Ameiko could have a set in the second batch. He nodded and asked if I thought that he should get Shayliss a set. I told him that she probably wouldn't wear it all that frequently, and that he might want to look at getting protection for himself first, because if he was defending her, it would be better if he could stay around longer than to fail and expect any protection he could buy to save her, especially if she wasn't going to wear it all that frequently. He nodded grimly and walked in silence, thinking. I told him that I was sure that there was something that we could get that would help her. He nodded again, but just stayed silent.

When we arrived at the Rusty Dragon, we got to our rooms. Dame Rebekah and Faunra were helping each other with their gowns and I helped Jonathan with his outfit. I put my tuxedo on, and changed out my S.W.A.T. zip side boots for my pair of Calvin Klein Ramses Bow Toes. I donned my satin top hat and checked what I was wearing. Everything seemed to be in order. It was the charcoal grey tuxedo, not lighter gray one. I wasn't as much into formal wear, but I had this in my car because I had just recently gotten them back from the cleaners and had forgotten to get them out of my car's trunk. I'll have to leave this entry here and finish it up when I get back here.
