Day 91: Toilday the 18th, Kuthona, 4707
I woke up early again and made breakfast for Savah and everyone else. Vaeren got right to opening up the shop, while Oren and Arika went out to get to work on the bridge/wall. Savah got up and continued reading in the book. I told her that I would be done with the gifts and the copy of the book for her and Hannah by the end of the day today. Savah smiled and told me that she was glad that I was focusing on doing all of this for everyone. I told her that I felt like I should be doing something for the people who accepted me so readily.
I went on to the workshop to start my busy day of copying where Veronica and Igor were busy on their own project, continuing to get the upgrades finished. Veronica sent me a thought saying that they should be done with the upgrades by the end of the day. I thanked them and noted that if we did not have the supplies issue sorted by the end of the day today, that I would have them work on upgrading the pantry, to include mechanisms for a dumbwaiter. Veronica saluted silently and continued her work.
About halfway through the day, just before I was going to stop for lunch, I sent Niddler a thought, asking them to take a look over the progress that they were doing on the bridge. Niddler acknowledged and took off. I put my helmet on and focused on the lens that would let me see through his eyes. The progress was going along well, for what it was anyway. This was all just the baseline structure, which would allow the further work later. I brought Niddler back and had him roost on his regular location, next to War-Bringer. I sent a message to War-Bringer to ask how they were holding up. They noted that they were a bit antsy, but were none the worse for the moment. I told them both to come down to the workshop, and we would have one of the twins give him a once over to ensure that he was cleaned up and ready should it be needed. Niddler and War-Bringer both said that they would.
I heard a knock on the door to the workshop then, and I paused my copying. I put the books away and went to go answer it and it was Sir Jasper. He asked if I had a minute, and I told him sure. He came in and told me that he wanted to talk to me personally about the missing supplies. Sir Jasper told me that his supply train had been bogged down by some bad weather along the roads from Magnimar, but that they would be here tomorrow. I thanked him to telling me this and asked him what he thought about having a solid stone road between here and Magnimar. Sir Jasper said that this seemed absurd, and I told him that once I get the funds together to get something enchanted to do it, I will be making something similar to what is going on with the bridge that Dame Rebekah and Chelger are making, but between here and Magnimar, but that I didn't want to impact his business by doing so.
Sir Jasper said that he would think about it and get back to me on it. I thanked him again for his services for both Savah and myself. Sir Jasper brushed it aside, saying that we had done good for him and his in the past, and that it was only natural that one good deed deserves another. He told me that he was heading out to check on what preparations he needed to accomplish for the ceremony. Apparently, word was out that this was going to be the event to be at, so not only were rooms booking up in the two Inns in town, but that other people had even had spare bedrooms propositioned in advance. We were looking at a large amount of people from what he had heard, and that he needed to get supplies in around the clock to deal with everything everyone was needing. I thanked him again for his diligence, and he set off.
I took a break to make lunch for everyone again today, and all seven of us had a nice meal. Oren, Arika, Rebekah, and Chelger all filled us in on their progress with the bridge/wall, Vaeren told us about who had come in to do some shopping, and I told everyone about Sir Jasper's plight. Everyone except Vaeren started panicking because of realization that the ceremony was very quickly approaching. I told them that we should probably check in on the various businesses that we had placed orders with to ensure that they had ideas on what all was actually going down.
Dame Rebekah and Chelger said that they would check in with Alma and Gaven to make sure that the drinks and cakes were ready. I told them that I would go to The White Deer to talk to Garridan and then swing down to the Hagfish to make sure that Jargie is good. Savah said that she could head down to talk to Ameiko. Oren and Arika said that they could drop by Cracktooth's and check in with him. I thanked them all and said that working together would make sure that this goes off without a hitch.
We all got up to head about our tasks. I went directly to the White Deer, and checked in with Garridan. He welcomed me in and I checked in with everything that we were looking for in the ceremony. Garridan noted the minor changes that were needed and noted how large this was looking to be. He said that he was a bit impressed about how large this was actually turning out to be. I told him that it was the chance for his establishment to really shine and gain a following from the Magnimar elite. Garridan nodded, saying that all of his rooms were already booked in advance for the nights before the ceremony, during, and after. He added that his top floor was booked by someone named Ayamyra, someone one named Toth Bhreacher, a person signed in as Proctor Jyronn Imikar, and a person signed in as Master Leis Nivlandis. I gave him the skinny on each of them. Garridan thanked me for the information, and set about getting people to work even faster.
I took my leave and rode my bike down to the Hagfish, looking to speak to Jargie. Jargie was very busy, dealing with a batch of out-of-towner sailors. Apparently he was having to clean up a lot of failures of the Norah Challenge. I sidestepped the puddles and went to talk to Jargie. He was making good progress on the food, and would definitely be ready for the day, even with the almost one thousand people expecting to attend. As soon as I got this information out of him, I was singled out by the sailors who were in the room. Apparently, I looked different enough that the drunks didn't expect someone like me to be able to do the "Norah Challenge". I looked Jargie in the eye and asked him for a shot of the reserve.
Jargie gave me a shot and I downed it quick. I went over to Norah's tank, grabbed a tankard, and filled it up. I started drinking. I remembered the last time and almost immediately threw up, but steeled myself and continued. After twenty-four seconds, I almost lost it again, but powered through. Finally, I drained the tankard, slammed it upside down on the table next to the sailors and looked them all over before telling them that not a one of them were shellbacks like me.
I turned to leave and gave Jargie a wink. He smiled back and said that he'd get my name carved up there on the post, and that the purse was mine. I tossed him a platinum to add to the pot and said to just add mine to it, that I didn't need the cash and that it would be more motivation for those land lovers. I got on my bike and headed immediately to the Barghest. I made it there and made my way in. Jonathan saw me and sat me down, asking if I needed anything. I told him that I could use a drink, anything to wash down the Norah slime. Jonathan had one of the bards bring over a cider and I started drinking it heavily. Jonathan asked me if I was successful, and I told him that I was, after I got challenged by a group of out of town sailors.
Jonathan laughed a little and noted that he might be considered the vengeful one of the group but that I could definitely be the most impulsive. I laughed and noted that the upcoming ceremony's size was a sure sign of that. Jonathan noted that he was going to be skipping providing for the feasts, as his crew would be busy enough without the further impact, but that he did have something for each of the couples. I told him that I was working on something for each of us too. Jonathan smiled and said that I should get back on it then. I agreed and wished him luck with the rest of his day. He thanked me and went back into Were-wolf Fieri mode.
I got back on my bike and headed home. I got back to the shop and start back up on my work. I finished up the gifts, but I am going to have to do the books for Savah and Hannah tomorrow. Veronica and Igor were working away on the parts that would be needed for the dumbwaiter for tomorrow. I told them both that I would need them to work on a chicken coop and a goat pen tomorrow, as the animals would likely be delivered tomorrow or the next day.
Oren and Arika came in at the end of their day, and I asked if I could get the gloves and the e-tool for just a few minutes before getting it back to them. They shrugged and handed them both over. I went outside to an area where I was going to put up both of the structures, and made a six-foot-tall packed soil then loose stone wall to act as a fence. I also put up the basics of wall setups for coop and stalls. I got back inside after a few minutes and handed the items back to Oren and Arika. They asked me what was up, and I told them that I was going to be getting some goats and chickens to help out with food and what not. Oren looked to Arika and shrugged. I went upstairs to make dinner.
When I got up there, I found that Savah had already made dinner, and I thanked her greatly. Savah sniffed me for a second and asked me why I smelled of Rum. I told her the story about the foreign sailors and she laughed about it. Savah told me about her encounter with Ameiko, and how Ameiko balked when she told her that her Inn was completely full with Magnimar elite, and that she was "renting" her family villa out to the Lord-Mayor and his ensemble. I smiled and told her that I hoped that she was getting a good deal for it. Savah told me that she shrugged and said that it was more about the duty or something like that. Savah told me next that Luma was here in the Rusty Dragon, and that she would be here for the ceremony.
I thanked her for the good news, and told her that I had finished off on the gifts for the couples, and that I would start work on the books for Hannah and her. Savah thanked me and said that she'd be more than glad to take the book to Hannah when it was finished. I told her that I would need the tablet tomorrow to get it transferred. Savah absentmindedly went to the bedroom and got it, saying that it had stopped showing anything a few hours ago. I took it downstairs to the battery bank and set it on the charger. I went back upstairs and Vaeren, Arika, Oren, and Savah were all waiting in the common room to eat. We sat around the table and enjoyed our meal together. It was simple days like these that I liked the most about this town.
