Day 107: Oathday the 3rd, Abadius, 4708
I woke up today to the smell of a delicious breakfast. Jonathan was giving us one more good meal before we got on the road. It was six-thirty, so I had more than enough time to eat and get ready. Jonathan smiled and noted that he was going to go check with someone about a dog. I was confused, but he rocketed off out the door so fast that I didn't even consider what he was saying. Dame Rebekah was just coming back from sunrise service at the Chapel, and asked where Jonathan was. I told her what he had said, and that he claimed that he would be back soon.
Before long, while I was getting suited up, Jonathan came back with a familiar face. It was Luma! He told me that he had ran to go see her after he figured that if Shalelu could bless the giants for speed, that she could as well. Luma smiled and said that she would gladly do so, and Jonathan noted that we needed to donate some gold to get it done, since she was going to be expected to cast some spells today for the family, and if she had the money, they couldn't complain.
I thought about it and asked her if she knew of anything more powerful than the base spell that Shalelu would have done to enhance the travel rate of the giants. Luma was a little saddened, and said that while she did, it would be very expensive. Jonathan said that he would cover it for both of the giants, if she could be ready to cast it as soon as we about to leave the city walls. Luma agreed and went off to meditate for her spells. I finished getting ready and at seven fifty (thank you cell phone) I rushed out to the bike and got everything loaded up.
Jonathan and Dame Rebekah were there with their things packed up, and Faunra's bike was packed up as well. At exactly eight o'clock and one minute, Faunra came rushing out of the building and leapt on her bike. Jonathan, already sitting in my sidecar, used his powers to shut all the doors. Faunra took off with Luma on the back of her bike. The giants started up behind us, keeping up as best they could. Just as we were about to leave the city, Luma bade us all to stop. Jonathan handed her a heavy bag of coins, and she cast her spell on the two giants. The seemed to thrum with nervous energy as the spells took effect.
Luma wished us well, and hoped that we would be back soon. We thanked her again and took off, at an absolutely blistering twelve miles an hour. We took off at this pace and were covering ground quickly. One hour down, with no major issues. After the second hour of this pace, we saw the giants start to flag a little. Twenty-four miles down, ten o'clock. Jonathan used his telekinetic ability to deliver each of them a healing potion, and for another hour they were going strong again. Eleven o'clock, thirty-six miles down and eighteen miles to go. Another healing potion is delivered to the giants, another hour of jogging. Noon, forty-eight miles down when they start to fail again. One more round of healing potions, and we finish off strong. We got to Sandpoint in under five hours.
Oren and Arika were at the South Bridge when we showed up, and they asked for us to wait while they went to get the Sheriff. We waited with Oren and Arika rode over to the Garrison. Oren asked us how the trip was, and Jolfumus exuberantly replied back that it went fast. Oren laughed a good deep laugh and noted that the town was undergoing some changes since we left, and that a lot of undesirables had been caught in less than wholesome activities, and that they were all being transferred to Thistletop, which was done being refitted as a jail. I nodded and said that it was a good idea, to keep people somewhere that they can be visited, but access is still very controlled. Oren nodded.
We passed the time with a little more small talk before Arika and Sheriff Hemlock came back on their bikes. Sheriff Hemlock went over and talked to Dame Rebekah for a bit before approaching me. He started out with apologizing for not having me informed on what was going to happen, but that it needed to not be something that I could have been detected as lying about the whole ordeal, especially since I had been the one to find the papers. I told him that I understood, and that I didn't hold any hard feelings about it.
Sheriff Hemlock then asked what we were going to be doing with Jolfumus and Forsetta. I told him that they had been granted a writ to upgrade the road between Sandpoint and Magnimar into a highway, and that they would be starting the day after tomorrow. Jolfumus offered that they already had shelter, indicating the enchanted pavilion tent. I added that they had been given an advance with which to buy supplies and get them started, and that Savah would be their liaison unless they decided that they wanted to deal with someone else. Sheriff Hemlock nodded and said that he could understand that.
Faunra offered to take them with her back to the Ashen Rise, where Shalelu and her were staying, at least for the night before they start their new jobs. Jolfumus and Forsetta both seemed to be okay with that, so the three of them headed for the rise. Jonathan noted that he had to head to the restaurant to ensure that nothing was screwing up, so he went off in that direction, and Dame Rebekah said that she had to get back to the Manor, before flying off. That left just me and the Sheriff. Sheriff Hemlock asked if he could accompany me back to my house and talk with me along the way. I agreed and we rode.
It wasn't too much that he wanted to talk about, mainly that he was seeing a lot of the benefits of the things that I was trying to do, and that if I could try and make them work, he would be putting his influence behind them. I thanked him and told him about the recruits that we were getting for the town from Magnimar. He balked a little until I made sure that he knew that that he would be in charge of training them. I added that he should invoice the Lord-Mayor for the costs of any supplies that they need that are out of the ordinary. I added that he should also consider turning the garrison into more of a garrison than a combination jail and garrison, and that I would work on getting a vehicle for him to use to take prisoners to Thistletop. We shook and he went on his way.
When I got close enough, Niddler made sure to reach out to me to let me know all of the goings on about the chickens while I was gone. I thanked him for his diligence and I told him that I would be taking him with me on the next trip. I knew that I needed to have a set of eyes in the sky whenever we were going into hostile territory, and he was small enough that it shouldn't be too dangerous for him, especially if he stays well away from the fray. Bailey saw me next, as I turned down the road. That would mean that Savah knows. I went straight to the garage and put my bike up.
Savah was very happy to see me and I gave her the rundown of everything that happened. I told her that we would be heading out the day after tomorrow, as we needed to finish up on one it for the giants, and that we had already picked up supplies. Savah made me promise to keep in contact every day that we were apart. I did so, and told her that I would do my best to ensure that I kept her updated on everything that we would need to do. Since I had some time, I checked in on the twins. They had made me some things for the coming battles ahead. A set of three concussion grenades and three smoke cloud grenades. Neither would do exceptionally much against the giants, but they could definitely be useful to set other things up.
I thanked them and spent the last few hours of the day tinkering with my firearms and armor. Not really changing anything, but more of doing general maintenance and checking for any possible problems in the future. When it came time for dinner, Savah came in and hustled me off to Risa's place, where there were sausage peppers and onions and a nice drink. The six of us in the household, Oren, Arika, Vaeren, Erica, Savah, and myself, all took the chance to have a relaxing dinner together before we expected the world to disintegrate.
After dinner, we all split up. Oren and Arika were heading to Cracktooth's to get an after dinner drink, Vaeren and Erica went off to go talk see Ameiko's band perform a new song, Ramble On oddly enough. Savah and I took the opportunity to enjoy a nice relaxing evening together and just have a chance to enjoy each other before I had to go off to safe the town, or world, or whatever again.
