Day 108: Fireday the 4th, Abadius, 4708
We will be leaving tomorrow morning especially early, as Faunra will have the Mallet of Building done by four AM and will be leaving from the Ashen Rise with the Giants by five. That gave me only today to finish preparing and get everything built that I needed to get built. I didn't use it. I decided to spend the day with Savah; my beautiful wife, Oren; my adopted cousin, the Twins; for lack of a better term, my homunculi children, and Father Zantus; the closest thing I have to a religious guide here. Even that is a stretch, as while he has been teaching me more and more about the various faiths here, I have been teaching him about the origination of the faiths back where I am from. This has given me a large degree of multi-world faith based knowledge.
Savah was only too happy to spend the day with me. The Twins were happy to get to see the changes and improvements to the armor. I let them both know that the town would be getting a large amount of additional guards, so they would have to keep working on armor and firearms for them, and that they would be getting numbers and types from either Savah or Sheriff Hemlock. Veronica and Igor both acknowledged the modification to the orders, and wished me luck. Veronica asked me to give them a full rundown on what needs to be modified on the armor when I get back.
Oren was a bit preoccupied with his upcoming future, and how he was going to be building a house sometime in the near future. I told him that he could do it, and that he could have a really good life if he wants to stay here. Oren smiled and told me that he had a visitor during the Night of the Pale feast. It was his sister. He told her how he had changed his life and how he was doing really well. She told him that she had a gig lined up in Magnimar, but that if that fell through, she might try to do the same thing here. I told him that I wished her well in her endeavors, and that if she wants to retire from that life to here, we can work with her to find out what she could be good at here.
We shared a good talk like what a pseudo-family would do. Honestly, he reminded me a lot of my cousin from back home, even with the criminal past. I guess that's where a lot of my desire to redeem people comes from. He told me how he wants to settle down with someone just as beautiful as the person that caused him to leave Riddleport. I told him that he should really forget that life as best he can, it won't do him any good. Oren nodded and said that it still was period of his life that he was stressing over. I told him that if he really wants to get past it, he needs to do something to either make up for it or to make this life better for the people around him. I checked with him to see how he was doing with War-Bringer, and they were meshing well. Apparently, War-Bringer likes to ride on the side of the bike when Oren goes on trips out of town. I smiled and told him that I hoped that they were a good mesh. We parted since he had to head to watch.
My meeting with Father Zantus went well. We talked about lots of different things and Father Zantus asked if I had given thought to being further in the service of my deity. I thought about it and told Father Zantus that I didn't have the acumen to really help guide people. Father Zantus smiled and said that not everyone needs serves in the same way. He added that some people serve by just being living examples. I thought long about it and told him that I would need to give it more serious thought, and that I'd think about it while I went to Jorgenfist. When I brought that up, he wished me well, and I asked him if he could keep an eye out for Savah and help her if something terrible happens to me. Father Zantus told me that he would.
I spent the rest of the day when I wasn't spending time with Savah going around checking in on everyone that I needed to. I even stopped by the Vinder General Store. Ven looked apprehensive at first, but I approached him as peacefully as I could. I told him that I was certainly upset that Katrine was lost to the family, and that I was sorry that Shayliss had gone on to live with Jonathan and left them alone. Solsta came out and had a sad look on her face. I told them both that I never had any intention of that, but that I did hope that things would go better for them. Ven shook his head and didn't say anything, and Solsta just looked down. I left without saying anything else. There were some situations that could never be repaired.
I continued on along the trip that I was taking through Sandpoint, until I got to the Rusty Dragon. Ameiko was there and immediately left the bar to come talk to me. I told her that I wished her well in her endeavors with the band, and that the Lord-Mayor was interested in hearing them more. Ameiko smiled and said that they would plan for heading there first, but that she was thinking about taking the band all around Varisia, since she felt that she could use a break from the Inn. I told her that she would do absolutely fine, but asked if the worst happens to me, if she could keep an eye out for Savah. Ameiko promised that she would, we shook hands and then before pulled me in for a hug. I thanked her and left to go talk to the last few people.
I left the Rusty Dragon and headed over to the Sandpoint Merchantile League, but Sir Jasper wasn't there. I decided to head to Sandpoint Boutique to talk to his sister. Hayliss was there and welcomed me. I walked in and she greeted me with a bit more joy than I had anticipated. The reason why she was so happy was because Jasper was doing so well, and the town was doing so well after the failed assault. I asked if I could talk to her about what was coming up here soon. Hayliss closed up shop to allow us to have a semi-private talk. We talked about how Sir Jasper was so much happier, and how the town would be much better off without Titus (apparently the news had spread). I asked Hayliss if she could help me out with keeping an eye out for any wrongdoing or backlash that might come Savah's way when I am out of town. Hayliss said that she would and that she would pass this message along to her brother. I thanked her and headed out.
There wasn't anywhere left to really head to that was more important than spending time with Savah, so I headed back home. For the rest of the day, we spent our time just relaxing and we watched the Princess Bride again. We got dressed up and headed out to the White Deer for dinner, and Garridan was more than happy for us to visit. We had an exceptionally good meal and took the opportunity to walk along the top of the wall to make our way home, being careful to keep an eye out for any dangers.
We walked in the early evening taking in the sights of the town and of the surrounding forest. Savah smiled and told me that she appreciated all of the changes that I was making to the town and how it would help in the long run. I thanked her for that and told her that I was a bit worried that there would be reprisals from the Scarnettis after the events in Magnimar. Savah told me that she knew that she would be ready, what with Oren, Arika, Vaeren, Erica, and Bailey on site. I nodded and noted that Niddler would be heading with me, and that if anything did happen to me, he would be sent back to let her know for certain. Savah thanked me for that but said that she was certain that I would be coming back just fine.
We made our way home and I packed up everything that I would need the next morning that I wouldn't be wearing or having on my person tomorrow. We had a good day together, and it was nice to have a break for once, before I go out into danger, for my family and my town. Once more into the breach my good friend. Once more into the breach.
