A/N: Sorry for the long delay between chapters, I have been pretty busy IRL with a lot of personal stuff at the moment, so expect more chapters to come out in the near future, though there might still be some time gaps between each one (Maybe a week or two maximum between each one until things settle). Otherwise, I hope you enjoy this chapter as it will be the start of the Vanilla section (And maybe TBC, depending on how I feel about the Vanilla story, which, tbh, there's not much for the Night Elves or High Elves until we get to Silithus and AQ which will probably be more Night Elf focused with them calling on the High Elves for help) and where things potentially start to change in the Lore with the High Elves being at full force and working with the Night Elves (Creating a third faction which only has the Elves in it, alongside the Horde and Alliance).
New Members
"Wow. The Prince must really like you."
Athrodar looked over to the entrance of his brand new office and smiled at his guest when he saw her leaning up against the door frame. "What can I say? I have friends in high places apparently."
Lana'thel made her way over to him and placed a gentle hand on his cheek. "I am so glad you're here earlier than planned. This past week and a half has been a drag. I have been stuck with most of the Convocation members who are trying to win me over in one way or another so I can back their votes, had a few noble houses try to slip me some gold so I can represent their interests in future meetings and I have had my daughter around more often than not, as well as the General, both of whom are trying their hardest to annoy me and succeeding more often than not."
Athrodar chuckled and placed a hand over the one on his cheek, moving it to his lips and kissing the palm of it. "I am here now, so hopefully most of that will stop. Or we would just have to face it together since I will also be the newest member of the Convocation."
"Ahh, but you're lucky." Lana'thel told him, climbing onto her tiptoes and kissing him lightly on the lips. "You have the Sunblade name. They will think you're under Dael'Thaelas' thumb and will ignore you until you start to make a name for yourself outside of his influence."
"That shouldn't be too hard." Athrodar told her, moving his hands to her waist and smiling down at his Magistrix. "After all, I plan to vote against him for most things out of spite and because I think I can get a few kicks out of seeing his annoyed reaction when he realises I'm deliberately voting against him."
Lana'thel chuckled and kissed him again. "You're evil and I love it." She told him, moving her arms around Athrodar now and hugging him. "I have missed you, my love." She whispered, pressing her ear to his chest. "Nobody wants to talk about evil schemes with me."
Athrodar smiled and hugged her back, closing his eyes and resting his cheek against the top of her head. "I have missed you too." He whispered back to her. "I waited for you every day after you left, hoping you would walk through the tavern door and sit down at the bar directly in front of me. Instead I got the usual drunkards."
"Now you don't have to worry about that." She told him. "Unless there's a problem that only you can handle, it should just run itself perfectly fine."
"I hope so." Athrodar said, tilting Lana'thel's head up and kissing her lightly. "Are you free now?"
"I am." Lana'thel told him, smiling brightly at the elf standing directly in front of her. "Why, what do you want to do?" She asked him.
"I have no idea, I was just hoping you can come up with something to do if we both had some spare time." Athrodar told her, getting a laugh from the Magistrix.
"Very well." She said, looking out the nearby window and smiling to herself when she saw something. "How often have you been to Silvermoon in your life?"
Athrodar furrowed his brows and began to think of all the times he visited the city. "Outside of recently, I only ever visited Silvermoon whenever I had a family thing, so... Once every two, maybe three years?" He looked over to Lana'thel who continued to smile at him. "Why?"
"Then you are still a stranger to this city." Lana'thel told him, taking hold of his hand. "We are going to explore the city, go to all the hidden places that I am certain you don't know exist and we are going to enjoy our time together."
Athrodar nodded his head in agreement to her plans. "Then we explore the lesser known parts of Silvermoon." He said, smiling when she took hold of his hand and began to drag him out his office.
Just as they left Sunfury Spire, the two of them ran into the General who looked shocked to see them both in the city, especially Athrodar whom she had thought would still be in Stormwind. "What... What are you doing here?"
"The Prince told me I needed to come back early." Athrodar told her, looking down at Lana'thel who had a cocky grin on her face whilst she held onto his hand a little tighter. "So here I am."
"No." Sylvanas said almost instantly, shaking her head and waving away her comment. "I-I mean, when did you get back?" She now asked him, watching Lana'thel move an arm around Athrodar and lean her head on his arm at the same time, almost possessively as she tried to show the General she was the one who is with Athrodar now.
"Last night." Athrodar told her, trying to not give Lana'thel the attention she was seeking out of respect for the General. "I slept in the new office he has given me, so not many people know I am back outside of my mother and Mel, the Prince and this one." He kissed the top of Lana'thel's head and felt her hug his arm now. "And now you, General."
Sylvanas smiled sadly at his use of her title, nodding her head slowly and keeping her attention on Athrodar. "Well. It's nice to see you're back so soon. Perhaps Talanas can see you more often now."
Athrodar caught on to the change of mood Sylvanas was showing compared to their last encounter, noticing she looked both troubled by his sudden arrival as well as her saddened tone. "I was thinking I would visit tomorrow, seeing as I will be spending most of today around politicians and the Prince. An environment not suitable for a child, no matter who it is."
Sylvanas' smile brightened a little, though it was still sad. Especially since Lana'thel was trying her hardest to get a reaction out of the General who was trying her hardest in return to not react or give her anything she can see as a victory. "No, that is true." She took a couple steps forward and placed a gentle hand on Athrodar's free arm. "I'll make sure he knows you're visiting tomorrow. Light knows he will be happy to see you again."
Lana'thel watched Sylvanas walk passed the two of them and into Sunfury Spire, smiling to herself and looking up to Athrodar when she heard him sigh. "What's up?" She asked him.
"You don't have to rub it in every time you see her." Athrodar told the Magistrix who let out a small laugh and rolled her eyes. "She knows the reality of the situation. She knows we are together, you don't have to rub it in."
"Oh please. You can't stand there and tell me she wouldn't do the same thing." Lana'thel told him, smirking when Athrodar kept silent. "I thought so."
"Just... Promise me you won't do that again." Athrodar looked down at Lana'thel who sighed and looked away from him.
"Fine..." She muttered. "But if she tries anything when you're not around, I will not hold back."
"And I wouldn't stop you if she did." Athrodar said, kissing her on the temple. "Now come on, show me around the parts of the city you think I don't know."
Lana'thel grinned and hugged his arm as she dragged him along with her. "These are places I know you don't know."
"They've fallen back to the Barrens. The forests are free of their axes for now." Serathea said, reporting in to her Captain and sister.
"Good. I'll report in to the General and inform her." Elaria looked over to Lor'themar who was talking to a handful of his rangers. "Tell Lord Theron that the orcs have left Ashenvale and returned to the Barrens."
Serathea watched her sister's gaze focus on the Ranger Lord in the distance, slowly grinning at her when she began to notice something. "You're enjoying having him around, aren't you?"
Elaria widened her eyes and looked over to her sister. "Wh-what? No!" She saw Sera continue to grin and rolled her eyes. "Just go inform him. I need to tell the General."
"I'll also warn him about you and to make sure you don't get your hands on him." Sera teased, laughing all the way to the Ranger Lord when she heard her sister and Captain groan at her teasing.
Lor'themar looked over to the Kaldorei standing beside him, bowing his head to her slightly whilst she bowed back to him. "Any news, Lieutenant?" He asked, getting a small chuckle from Serathea in return.
"Orcs or something else?" She asked, smirking at the Ranger Lord and waving away her comment when she saw him tilt his head a little. "It was a poor joke, don't worry about it." She then said, looking back to the hut that held General Feathermoon and now her sister. "The Orcs have returned to the Barrens. Captain Elaria thought you should know, seeing as it was your job to help us push them out of our forests and that seems to have happened now."
"That's fantastic." Lor'themar said, smiling at the Lieutenant. "I suppose we'll be heading back to Silvermoon soon. If the General believes we are no longer needed here, of course."
Sera smiled and nodded her head. "I should think you would be allowed to return home. We can handle it from here, now that we know where they will come from if they try to enter our forests again."
"I suppose I should tell Lord Sunblade this news. I think he would be more than happy to return home after defeating the orcs." Lor'themar smiled and let out a small chuckle. "He would probably see this as a resounding victory."
Sera began to smile when she saw Lor'themar make his way over to Lord Sunblade, walking with him when something crossed her mind. "My sister, Captain Elaria, what do you think of her?"
"I'm sorry?" Lor'themar stopped and tilted his head at Sera who began to grin at him. "What do you mean?"
"You know exactly what I mean. What do you think of my sister?" Sera looked back to Elaria who looked away from them when she saw her sister was looking over to her. "She seems to be interested in you. Which is interesting because she swore off men a few decades ago and has been very good at sticking to that."
Lor'themar looked over to the Captain who continued to look over to the two of them every now and then and look away the moment she saw he was looking at her, making him laugh lightly. "I don't know. It's been nice talking to someone who wasn't adamant in killing the orcs the second he got word they were here."
Sera chuckled and nodded her head. "I can imagine. Well, if it means anything, she is very territorial. If she wants something, or in this case someone, and knows they like her back, she will make sure nobody else takes them from her."
Lor'themar laughed nervously, looking over to Lord Sunblade in the distance. "I'll... I'll keep that in mind. Thank you, Lieutenant." He said, bowing his head to her before making his way to Lord Sunblade.
"You're welcome." Sera said with a beaming smile, spinning on her heel and making her way back to her sister and the General she was talking to.
"Was I right?" Lana'thel asked, leaning on Athrodar's arm and holding onto his hand as they both looked out towards the island in the distance.
"I've been there, I've just never seen it from this angle before." Athrodar told her, looking down at Lana'thel who smiled triumphantly beside him. "Sunstrider Island looks a lot bigger here than it feels when you're training there."
"I have never actually been over there." Lana'thel told him honestly. "It's restricted to the public and you're only allowed over there if you're a member of the Convocation, a Farstrider recruit or an instructor." She began to smile a little, looking up at him and noticing his focus was on the island in the distance. "We can both visit there together now though, seeing as we're both Convocation members."
"An opportunity for us to spend our downtime on the island together, alone?" Athrodar suggested, looking down at the Magistrix beside him and receiving a kiss from her in return. "That's a yes then."
"Of course." She told him, kissing him again. "I expect it to be rare, but I'm sure we'll have days off where we can visit the island and be alone with our thoughts and each other's company."
Athrodar moved to stand behind Lana'thel, wrapping his arms around her and looking out towards Sunstrider Isle in the distance. "I'm sure we'll get many days off in the future. Especially if Kael'thas is in charge, I don't think he would keep us busy for long periods of time."
"That confident in your newfound friendship with the Prince, huh?" Lana'thel asked, looking up at him whilst she continued to lean back into him in the meantime.
"I am." Athrodar whispered, smiling down at her. "He has yet to make me question our friendship."
Lana'thel began to chuckle and closed her eyes when she looked back to Sunstrider Isle, holding onto his arms that remained wrapped around her. "That naivety is going to go after a month with the Convocation, trust me."
"Sounds like an opportunity to prove you wrong." Athrodar whispered to her, pressing his cheek to the top of her head as he looked out at Sunstrider Isle in the distance too. "Can I ask you something?"
Lana'thel smiled and squeezed his hands a little. "Of course."
"Why didn't you ever marry?" Athrodar asked her, making the Magistrix go silent for a few, painfully slow minutes as she thought about her answer.
"There was no one for me." She told him, quietly and nervously as she suddenly found herself in an unknown situation. "Thal'ena's father never came forward when I was pregnant with her. Even now the two of us have no idea who he is, but I know it's nobody important." She tapped one of his hands and made him let go of her, spinning around so she could look at him. "After I gave birth to my daughter, I never really looked for anyone to form that sort of a relationship with. I was a Magistrix with no family other than her daughter and I would be damned if I introduced someone to my tiny family who would disrupt things."
"You've introduced me to it." Athrodar reminded her, making Lana'thel smile a little.
"That's because I trust you." She told him honestly. "The first person in a long time that I trust. The only other person is the Prince."
Athrodar took hold of her hand and watched her look down at it, smiling when she squeezed his hand in return. "I'm not saying now, or in the near future, but do you see your answer changing to my question?"
Lana'thel looked up at him and began to smile warmly when she saw he was still smiling at her. "I can see it changing. If you don't piss me off, that is." She pulled him towards her, pulling him down so she could kiss him and keeping her lips pressed to his for as long as she could until they needed to breathe. "But I don't think you are capable of that. Not after the couple years you've been in my life and have done nothing but make me happy."
"Well... Where's the fun in making you angry at me?" Athrodar asked her rhetorically, leaning down and kissing her again and hearing two guards walk up to them and wait nearby. "Here we go." He whispered, pressing his forehead against hers and waiting for the guards to speak.
"Lady Lana'thel, Lord Sunblade, The Prince is looking for you." One of the guards said, making the Magistrix chuckle lightly.
"Lord and Lady." She muttered, shaking her head and looking over to the guard. "Thank you, we'll be there in a minute." Her attention returned to the elf in front of her, placing a gentle hand on his cheek and smiling up at him. "Looks like our duties as Convocation members are coming by sooner than we both wanted."
Athrodar smiled a little at her. "After you." He said, gesturing towards the guards.
"I'll pretend this is you being a gentleman and not you wanting to stare at my behind whilst I walk in front of you." Lana'thel said, grinning at Athrodar who tried to act innocent. "Yeah, I know you better than you think I do."
"What can I say? I don't just like you for your personality." Athrodar told her, getting a chuckle from the Magistrix.
"Good." She said, glancing over her shoulder and grinning at him. "You'll like me more when we get into our first meeting and I back you up just to annoy the others."
"Sounds like a good plan to me." Athrodar told her, speeding up just wrap his arms around her and kiss her on the cheek, making the Magistrix laugh and reach back to place a hand on his cheek.
"Come on, we have to meet up with the Prince." She told him, giggling when he continued to kiss her on the cheek and occasionally on her neck. "I'm serious."
"Okay." Athrodar whispered to her. "Let's see what our Prince wants." He then said, letting go of the Magistrix and following the two guards back to Sunfury Spire.
Once they were in the Convocation Hall, Athrodar and Lana'thel had noticed all of the members were also summoned and were already sat down on an almost full table. "Good, you're here." Kael'thas said, standing up and smiling at the pair of them. "Lana'thel." He said, gesturing to an empty chair.
The Magistrix made her way towards it, sitting down and looking around at the rest of the members on the table. She saw a few familiar faces, though there was one she wasn't expecting to see so soon. "Back from Ashenvale already?" She asked, looking at Dael'Thaelas who sat on the closest chair to the Prince.
"I am." Lord Sunblade said, looking over to Athrodar who had noticed his presence the second he walked into the room. "I am surprised to see you here however. The rule of two family members in the Convocation still stands as far as I am aware. So unless you're here for some sort of punishment, or to see Lana'thel off before returning to Stormwind, this will probably be a short visit."
"Actually, he is here to join the Convocation." Kael'thas told Lord Sunblade, making both Deal'Thaelas and his daughter-in-law Larysa look over to him. "That does mean one of you will step down. Hopefully you will take the demotion gracefully, but I will make the guards escort you out of the building should you create a scene." His attention turned to Larysa who quickly began to realise she was the one who had to step down. "I'm sorry." The Prince told her when he saw her look of realisation. "But it would be unwise to remove Lord Dael'Thaelas from the Convocation, especially with his experience."
"You're kidding, right?" Larysa asked, looking over to Athrodar and glaring at him. "What can he bring to this Convocation that I can't?"
"I trust him more." Kael'thas told her, looking over to Dael'Thaelas shortly after. "We share the same ideas too and I believe he has a lot to offer us." His attention returned to Larysa who was finding this all hard to believe. "Now, unless you have something to say, I suggest you leave now before I call the guards."
Larysa stood up and began to make her way out the Convocation Hall, though not before she stopped beside her grandson and shot him a fiery glare. "I won't forget this. As far as I'm concerned, you're a traitor to this family."
Athrodar watched his grandmother leave, not flinching when she slammed the door behind her on the way out and looking back over to the long table the rest of the Convocation members were sitting around. "Come." Kael'thas said, gesturing to the chair Dael'Thaelas was currently sitting in. "As discussed, I will have you by my side."
Dael'Thaelas raised an eyebrow at his Prince and then looked up to Athrodar who stood beside him. "Your Grace, I have served your father for centuries. I was always the lead chair during the meetings when he wasn't here and I was. I have even promised your father I would do more with the Convocation after his passing."
"And I am grateful for that." Kael'thas told him, placing his hands on the table and interlocking his fingers. "But this will be my Convocation, not my fathers and I would very much appreciate it if Athrodar sat at the head of the table. Beside me."
Whilst this was going on, Lana'thel began to smile and hold back her laughter when she saw how easy the task of annoying Dael'Thaelas would be as well as anyone else who would appose the changes she or Athrodar or even the Prince might have in the future for their people. "I can't wait." She thought as she watched Lord Sunblade stand up and make his way towards Larysa's chair nearer the other end of the table whilst Athrodar sat down at the head beside the Prince and opposite High Priest Vandellor who also looked to have a small grin on his face.
"Good, now that that's sorted. What's the news from Ashenvale and the Kaldorei?" Kael'thas asked, looking over to Dael'Thaelas who looked angered to have been moved to the other end of the table. "Dael'Thaelas?"
"The Orcs have been dealt with." He told them, not looked up from the spot on the table he was focusing on. "Lord Theron has stayed behind to make sure it remains that way for another couple months, the General has been informed of his decision and she has agreed to it."
"Brilliant." Kael'thas said, looking around at the Convocation table. "I know this meeting was short, but I wanted to introduce our two new members and get an update on Ashenvale." The Prince stood up and was followed by everyone else shortly after. "Feel free to talk to me if a problem should come up." He looked over to Athrodar who bowed his head to him. "Or if I'm unavailable, Athrodar or Vandellor." He looked over to High Priest next. "They will be the two I advise you go to if you can't find me."
"I can live with that." Lana'thel said, getting a chuckle from the Prince who nodded his head slowly whilst she grinned at Athrodar.
"Good. You can all go about your day now, this meeting is over." Kael'thas told them, leaving the room shortly after.
