Day 118: Moonday the 14th, Abadius, 4708
We awoke in bed after a good night's rest. It was good to be back in what I considered my home again. Savah had woken up before me, so I got up and got myself dressed and ready for the day. I didn't expect any trouble today so I didn't get geared up in what was becoming more and more a suit of techno-magical power armor. Little enhancements here and there, each adding to the abilities. Good thing I don't have any clues about programming, or I might be tempted to give it an AI. I can't foresee that going well in any way.
I headed over to the balcony to get a better look at the progress of the university. A force of forty-five unseen workers handling multiple different issues means that a lot of the low level work gets done. Fifteen were working solely on the grounds related issues, fifteen were working on getting the lumber into shape, and the final fifteen were working with the lumber and the other materials to bring the building into shape. Niddler flew up to me to and leaned in for scritches. Knowing exactly where he wanted to be scratched was a bit different than dealing with cats or dogs, but he was appreciative.
Niddler let me know that the chickens were a bit annoyed by the construction, which had been going on since Friday. I told him that they would be finished within a week, and that his little farm would be the next thing we would look at expanding. Niddler sent unadulterated joy towards me. I noted that he would need to look after a lot more chickens once it was expanded. Niddler smiled and headed back to take care of his flock.
I headed into the kitchen and then to the common room. There wasn't anyone there, but there was a plate of biscuits and gravy. I could tell that Jonathan had dropped by. I grabbed a plate and took it into the kitchen to heat everything up. After a little while, the food was heated up and morning tea was also made. I ate my meal and washed it down with the tea, and headed down to the store. Savah was there with Erica, going over all of the new changes and additions. I smiled as Savah looked at me, positively glowing. We were making big changes in this town, and I figured that I needed to head off problems.
While I smiled back to Savah, I sent a thought to Niddler that I would politely need his delivery services, if he could make time for it. Niddler responded back that he could leave right now, and I sent back that he should finish up his daily tasks first. Niddler told me that he would let me know when he was ready and I thanked him. Getting used to this whole telepathy thing is a bit of a change, but I still don't want any entity linked to me that doesn't want to be.
Savah came up and gave me a big hug, and asked if I got good rest. I told her that I did, and that I was going to start working on the plane soon. Savah smiled and told me that Dame Rebekah and Chelger had been by first thing and dropped off the components that she had not gotten earlier. I thanked her and told her that I would probably be starting up another batch of unseen craftsmen. Savah said that she hoped that it wouldn't be as loud, and I told her that at least this set would stop existing when the job was done.
I gave her a kiss and headed into the shop. Igor was working in the mechanical room on the engines, He saluted me and said that he was working hard on the project, and I sent to him asking if he wanted assistants. He nodded and conjured fourteen of the unseen craftsmen, and assigned them to work on whatever was required by Igor. I asked Igor what Veronica was up to and he motioned to the other, closed off side of the shop. I headed in there and saw that she was working on an advanced coil-gun. It was being cooled by the enchantment that was the reverse of the heat enchantment that we had gotten in Magnimar. Vaeren was in there with her, watching carefully.
I sent to Veronica that this was a great weapon for the ship and she sent back to me that she thought it would be. She sent that if she finished up quickly enough, she could work on the electrical utilities in the plane, including a charger for my phone or tablet. I laughed and noted that I could try to patch in to the plane if I had a raspberry pie. Vaeren looked at me oddly and I told him that I would explain it when we were working on the plane. Vaeren nodded, and I sent to Veronica that I could summon up a series of unseen servants for her, if she thought that it would help. Veronica sent back to me that she would like that, and I summoned the horde for her, getting another fifteen servants.
I told Vaeren that we should head out to the university. Two of the wings were done, along with the courtyard. I summoned up the last batch of fifteen Unseen Craftsmen that I could and we all went into the courtyard. I sent the Craftsmen to move the materials into the location. I figure that I'm going to have to build a hanger for the plane. Maybe we can pull an X-Mansion thing and change the courtyard to a basketball court, or just put one outside of the school. That'd be something for the other magic schools to try to start up. Then we would need to set up busses, and roads.
I pulled out the plans and showed them to Vaeren. He asked me what this was intended to do. I told him that this plane would fly at a much faster rate than most other forms of travel. I added that if we could get this successful, then maybe the secrets of flight would be available for everyone and not just mages. Vaeren nodded and asked if this was like the bikes. I told him that it was and that we should at least be able to travel to Magnimar in at least half the time it takes to travel there by bike, or completely blowing out horses.
Vaeren nodded and asked what he was here to do. I told him that I was intending for him to get a schooling in the physics and all of the related materials sciences. Vaeren nodded and asked what I needed him to do specifically. I went over the plans with him and told him that I was going to need him to deal with the second shift of observing the workers, and for that I needed the most techno-savvy person I could have.
Vaeren said that he could understand that, and I went over all of the details with what the unseen craftsmen would do. I started them off on the assembly of the frame. I went over the sciences and math that Vaeren was going to need to know to be over the project. Vaeren absorbed the information and asked when I would need him to be back. I told him that I would need him to be here in eight hours. Vaeren nodded and walked off to talk to Erica.
I focused on the project and put some music on to focus on what I was doing. Jonathan ended up dropping by after a few hours. He had a Reuben for me and a drink. Jonathan asked me how it was going and I told him that it was in the early stages, but that it seemed to be starting very well. Jonathan nodded and asked how long it would take. I told him that it should be finished at the same time as the university oddly enough. Jonathan asked when that would be started to be in service. I told him that I would not start this project until after our mission was complete. Jonathan took that in and said that he might be interested in my help with the start up in Magnimar.
I told him that I would definitely help him with anything I could. I added that after the plane was done, he could check in on the different restaurants every day if needed. Jonathan said that he really liked making his own way. I told him that he could do that, but a personal or private one of these might be enough for just him and Shayliss, and they could take vacations far and wide. I added that with his capability to launch things like he could, I could even get away with making it without the gun and smaller. Jonathan said that he would think about it. I told him to just keep it in mind for later.
We talked a little more about some different ideas for his restaurant chain, and how back where I was from every chain needed a mascot. I cautioned him that a real Barghest pelt might not be the best thing, as we might not be around if someone nefarious tries to do some kind of ritual to bring back the beast. Jonathan was thoughtful for a moment and agreed, saying that we could be on the lookout for something similar. I told him that I'd be glad to help find something thematic that would work.
Our conversation trailed off and Jonathan told me that he had to head back to his restaurant, that they were trying something new tonight. I told him that Savah and I might try to drop by after my shift of this work is done. Jonathan nodded and wished me well. I continued working on the plane's body with the unseen craftsmen. When my shift of observation was done, Vaeren came over and asked how things were going. He seemed amazed by how much had been done to build the shell of the plane. I told him that the Unseen Craftsmen would be busy installing joint points for the B4C fabric and that his main goal was to just make sure that they didn't run out of the latch points.
Vaeren asked where the other latch points were, and I told him that the twins had them in the workshop. Vaeren nodded and said that he could do that. I told him that his other job was to look over the plans and study them intently, to ensure that he could try to figure out all of the science behind it. I told him that this would be important to his future in the school. It wasn't a lie, but this wasn't the focus of the school.
In other news, Faunra had dropped by. She also took the liberty of making my armor even more into powered armor, just because she had wanted to, I guess. She had dropped by the shop to check in on how things were going while I was working on the plane and decided that it would be best to transfer the enchantments from my machete to my powered gauntlets. It makes complete practical sense, in that I can latch on to something with a burning gauntlet and cause continual pain, and it is one less thing I have to worry about drawing. Still it rubs me the wrong way that she would just take the liberty. One more tool from the old world sent to be sold. I can still turn the fire on and off, and it makes the armor look even more badass though. Now, she said, she is going to have to find a way to get repulsors into it.
Savah said that Faunra had also upgraded Savah's and my radios by transferring the sending stone enchantment to it and enhancing it to operate as long as the radio had power, and not just once per day like the previous stone. Now there was even more reason to keep our radios charged. She told Savah that she would be continuing on with the rest of the radios as the resources made themselves available. I noted that this improvement would allow us to keep better track of everything going on and ensure that we were not worrying about emergencies like the earthquake.
Savah asked what I was thinking for dinner, and I told her that Jonathan had said that he was "trying something new" at the Barghest, and had extended an invitation to us. Savah smiled and said that we could head out shortly, as Erica and Vaeren were both looking over the store and the project. We got our things collected and headed over to Jonathan's restaurant. We passed by Risa's Place and waved to the staff that was talking with patrons outside. They waved back and we continued on our way.
When we got to the Barghest, Jonathan's staff took us to our table. Apparently Jonathan's new idea was PIZZA! I didn't even know that this place even had tomatoes, let alone this equivalent of mozzarella. I was very impressed with this, and decided that I'd hold any critiques until after this. I taught Savah the appropriate way to eat the pizza, New York style.
We enjoyed the meal and had some ciders with them. Eventually, Jonathan came around and asked how our meal was going. We both told him that this was great, and that I could offer some adjustments if he wanted. Jonathan said that he would love to get the input later, but was glad that we both enjoyed it. I told him that I was really glad that he had brought this into existence for me, and noted that he could even start a setup where he could hire deliverers from Sir Jasper's. Jonathan said that he would give that some thought and headed off to check with other customers.
We finished off our pizza and thanked Jonathan. We got one more for the road, for Erica and Vaeren, and headed back to the house. We had an uneventful walk back and collected both Erica and Vaeren for the dinner. They both seemed to enjoy it and Savah and I went out to watch the various groups of unseen craftsmen working on the university and the aircraft. Savah asked me if I was ready for everything that was coming.
I looked at her and thoughtfully told her that I doubt that anyone could be prepared for everything that could happen in a world of magic, but I was certain that I could do it with her help. Savah held me close and we watched as the skeletal structure of plane was constructed. The university building was getting built fairly quickly. From what I could estimate, as long as I got done with everything for the plane structure, and the twins were done implementing their sections, then Faunra would have three days to finish any enchantments before the university was done. That is some nice synchronicity.
I told Savah of my calculations and how things were winding up. She asked me if I was planning on opening access to the school immediately. I shook my head and said that we get to begin the vetting process for the first class and who the future teachers of individual subjects might be. Savah went to ask something and I winked, telling her that I didn't want to spend all day away from her. She smiled back and we sat, watching and listening to the construction work. Niddler came up to us and watched the work before telling me all about his day. It was nice to have a bit of relaxation and progress in goals.
Savah and I retired back to the upstairs common room and I loaded up The Princess Bride. We watched for a while and Erica and Vaeren both popped by at different times to watch the movie. Savah and I finally headed into our room and set up setting up everything on its appropriate shelf or container. I looked out of the Balcony and looked out over the continued progress. Savah brought me back inside and we both went to bed to get some rest for the next day.
