Day 119: Toilday the 15th, Abadius, 4708
Savah and I awoke at about the same time, and got out of bed to start our day. We got dressed and I went out to the balcony. Niddler flew up to meet me and we had an impromptu discussion about the plans for the day. Savah came out and gave Niddler scritches as well. Bailey howled and Savah looked down to have a telepathic conversation with Bailey at the same time, likely to let Bailey know that they will be getting pets as well.
We did our briefings to the two Homunculi and made our way in to the house, from the balcony, for breakfast. Savah went to sit down in the common room, while I stopped in the kitchen to fix up breakfast for everyone. Oren and Arika were back, and Erica was already here from wherever she was staying. Vaeren was a little late getting into common room, as he was apparently studying the ship plans late into the night. I'm glad that he is taking to my task for him with some diligence.
I brought the mound of pancakes, bacon, and eggs into the room. I dropped it off and got the ciders from the pantry. All of us traded information about our previous few days. Oren and Arika had been doing heavy rotations in Thistletop and ferrying messages back and forth to Magnimar. Unofficially, they were also being tasked with keeping an update on the progress of the giants. The road that they were making was a great example of quality engineering.
Erica told everyone how the store was doing, and how there were some new people in town who were dropping by and picking up weapons. Erica added that she was certain that there were new adventurers in town, likely just starting out. Savah asked Erica to keep an eye out for these and other adventurers because it would be good to know who the new movers and shakers of the town. Savah winked at me when she said that.
Vaeren spoke up next and mentioned that he was having some issues with the "science" behind the plane. I told him that we could talk about that on his shift today. Vaeren nodded and I noted that the plane would be in the process of assembly today, and finalization tomorrow. I noted that the projects that the twins were working on would be incorporated today and tomorrow. Everyone nodded and Arika asked how much longer the work would be going on in the university. I noted that as long as everything went as planned, Fireday.
Everyone seemed to accept that, and finished off their breakfasts with minor small talk. Oren and Arika had gotten the place that they wanted to build on, but were saving up to have Aesrick build it. I nodded and stayed quiet. If they wanted Aesrick to build it, it would probably be for the best. Less issues for me with him being pissed off. Everyone went off to their specific tasks, and I before they did, I told everyone that it was movie night tonight, and that tonight was Captain America. No one knew what I meant, but said that they would be here for it.
I headed down to the workshops to check in on the twins. Igor was working heavily on the engines and they were, for the most part assembled. He was ordering around the craftsmen and getting work done sufficiently well. I asked him if he would be ready to install the engines into the frame. Igor sent to me that they would be ready for it in a few hours, and that he would have the craftsmen bring them out with him. I thanked him and wished him speedy process.
I went into the other side of the workshop and checked in on Veronica. She was working on the coil gun. There was a lot of work that needed to be done. Apparently in the spare time she had been working on a battery back system for it. I told her that this was great work and that we would be ready to start mounting everything into the structure either today or tomorrow. If she was ready. Veronica sent to me that she would be working on it, but that the coil gun would take three days more.
I nodded and noted that Faunra would need to a few days to enchant what needed to be enchanted, so getting the firearm mounted could wait until the end. Veronica thanked me for the update. I thanked her for working on it so diligently. I went out of the shop to the drop by the store. Savah waved hi and I waved back. Erica was working hard on ensuring that everything was stocked correctly and cleaned. Savah was going over the books. I went over and gave Savah a hug and let her know that I'd be working for the next few hours. She smiled and wished me luck.
I went over to the university work site and the building unseen craftsmen were working away on the project. I summoned up another pack of fifteen unseen craftsmen to help with the university work, as the groundskeepers had vanished, since their part of the project was completed. This group I had specifically work on making a different section of woods into material for furniture. I would have to wait to summon up another set to make the furniture, but it would be worth it. I summoned up a third set to help with the assembly of the Quadjet.
I got to work on the Quadjet after summoning that third set, assembling the fuselage and wings. The craftsmen were diligently working away putting the pieces together and covering the entirety of the vehicle with the B4C cloth that I had started making here oh so long ago. I would have been worried about the wind resistance of the material but I was more concerned with the strength and ability to resist both fire and acid, as I had seen dragons do both here, and didn't want to be susceptible to mid-air destruction from a passing attack.
The work was going exceedingly well, maybe because I had put on some music to listen to while I toiled away. The hours seemed to speed by as I rushed to get this completed. I didn't want myself or my work to be holding up the trip. After a good solid eight hours of this, Savah flagged me down and Vaeren was also walking up as well. Savah asked if I had a moment inside to talk, and Vaeren was reporting in to fill in for the second shift. He nodded to me and I asked him if he could keep the two crews on task while I went to go discuss what Savah had needed to talk about. Vaeren said that he would be fine, but still wanted to discuss the specifics of the vehicle. I agreed and headed out with Savah.
We went into the house and she just about leapt on me. We were busy for a little while before she let me know that she had just missed me. I was confused and she just winked. We laid down for a while and Savah asked how the project was going. I told her that it looked like we would be done with the plane by the end of my shift tomorrow morning, if the pace holds out at all. Savah smiled and said that this was good, that Faunra had dropped by again and said that she'd be by the day after tomorrow to get her enchantments on the plane completed.
I smiled and noted that this would be the first time I flew a plane, and Savah was very worried. I told her that planes back where I was from flew at hundreds of miles an hour and I doubted that this one would fly faster than double what the bikes could, triple at best really. It wouldn't be fun if there was a crash, but we'd be hitting something slower that if he actually fell from the height. Savah seemed mollified a little at that. I added that as long as Faunra or Jonathan were on board, we would be able to jump out and just lose the plane. Savah was a bit more relaxed.
I asked her what she would like for lunch. Savah said that she was in the mood for some of the cheddar bay biscuits and some of the chowder. I led her down to the garage and we got on my bike. We headed out of the garage and headed out towards the worksites. Vaeren was waiting when we rolled up. I apologized that we were going to be getting food first, and asked if he wanted anything. Vaeren brightened up and said sure. Savah told him that we'd be back shortly.
We rode off down the south side of the property towards where the previous wall that had been erected for the fight back last month. I noted aloud that I'd have to redo the wall, and Savah said that we should have a gate at this side of the property as well. I told her that we definitely could, and wheeled towards the South Bridge gate. Lance and Kilana were the ones stationed at the bridge today. They both waved to us to stop so I did.
Lance asked me how things were going with the school. I told him that the structure should be built within the week, and that the rest of the time would be spent on building the amenities. Lance asked why I didn't go with the Carpenter's guild to get it made. I told him that I got in trouble the last time I paid to have a building built by them out of turn. Lance nodded and said that he remembered that. He wished us well and asked us to keep him updated on the school. I said that I would, and he walked back to his post.
Kilana came up to us on the other side and thank us personally for helping to dismantle the Bunyip gang. I told her that it was what we were supposed to do, as responsible people. Kilana said that she was still happy that the Sczarni gang was broken. I asked her if Jubrayl was exiled and Kilana said that he was. I nodded and told her that we needed to keep an eye out for any other gang that might come into existence in the power vacuum. Kilana nodded and wished us well on our day.
We rode off to the Hagfish to meet up with Jargie. We parked the bike at the horse mount and went inside. Jargie immediately finished up with the customer that he was currently talking to and came over to talk to us. Jargie welcomed us in and asked us if we would be staying today or if we would be getting take out. Savah said that we had to get take out today. Jargie nodded and asked what we'd like. Savah said that we needed two orders of Crab n' clam chowder (one for me and one for Erica), and two orders of Lingcod Pot pie (one for her and one for Vaeren). Jargie said that he'd get the kitchen staff to whip it right up.
Jargie sent the order back and asked us how we were doing. Savah said that we were doing fine, and that the school was going really well. Jargie said that he was excited to see who would be going to the school and how it would affect the town. I noted that the school likely wouldn't be getting its first true set of students until a year in the future at least. I added that I needed to train up the first group to be teachers and trainers. Jargie nodded and said that he could understand that.
We talked a bit more about the what the school might bring to the town, and what Jargie in particular might expect. I told him that this was kind of an interesting bit of theory craft, as I had no real idea om how it might end up effecting the town as a whole, only that it should bring up the economy as a whole. Jargie nodded and said that it would be interesting to see. We continued on with our conversation, and our food was out shortly. Jargie gave us a box with the pottery crocks and a bag of the cheddar bay biscuits. I asked him how much, and he shook his head, saying that he wouldn't take our coin for what we did for him. I tried to argue but Savah stopped me and told him thank you.
We headed out from the Hagfish and a little kid ran up. The kid, who never introduced himself, asked if we had been the ones to save the town from the giants. Savah smiled and told her that we were indeed the ones who had. The child smiled and ran off squeeing. Savah looked at me and shrugged before saying that she guessed that we were famous now. I smiled and told her that she really deserved it.
We rode up to Alma's and I went in. Alma came over and gave me a hug. She asked me how things had been and I told her that we had been really busy. I apologized to her that I had not been dropping by as much recently and she tut tutted me. She told me that her bakery had been doing great, and that the doughnuts that I had requested be made every day were still being picked up by the town guard every morning by Sheriff Hemlock. I nodded and thanked her for continuing the practice.
Alma smiled and asked if I had any further innovations for her. I thought about her capabilities and realized that there were a lot of things that just would not work. I didn't want to give her something that wouldn't be able to be done without a lot of changeover. I realized that while she did make cookies, they were not specifically the kind that I really loved the most. I got out a sheet of paper from her and wrote up the recipe for snickerdoodles. I told her that I'd get her other recipes if she wanted later. Alma smiled and said that she'd try this tomorrow.
I picked up an assortment of breads and buns for the pantry and tipped Alma heavily. She tried to deny it but I wouldn't take no for an answer. She sighed and bagged up the breads and I brought them out to the bike. Savah was just getting back from the Curious Goblin. She didn't tell me what she was talking to them about and I didn't really ask. She did seem to have a mischievous smile about her though.
We both got back onto the bike and headed back to the house. Savah dropped off a meal for Erica and I took one out to Vaeren. Vaeren welcomed the brief meal as I noticed that Igor was there with his crew of unseen craftsmen as well. They were installing the engines on the sides of the fuselage. The wings were going to be mainly for stabilization and helping turning.
Vaeren asked me a couple of questions while he ate. Savah came out and she ate as well, while quietly watching me explain the details as thoroughly as possible. I explained the properties of aerodynamics and how the vehicle was being constructed to minimize the issues with wind resistance, and increase the responsiveness of the controls. Vaeren asked me some questions about the performance of the engines and how they would support the plane going forward. I admitted to him that I would be cheating a little, that since this world had magic, I was going to use it to get rid of the worst issue, the take off and the landing.
Vaeren nodded and asked if he could talk to Faunra when she arrives for her portion of the build. I told him that he was free to talk to her as much as she was willing to talk to him. Vaeren said that he could accept that and I told him that he should continue to keep watch over the project tonight, but that he should try to get up earlier tomorrow, to work with me on during my shift, since it would be ending then. Vaeren nodded and said that he'd keep studying the plans and be ready for the next day.
Savah and I went back into the house and we worked on getting everything in order for me to take a trip to some place far away for an unknown period of time. Savah seemed to be a bit upset about the thought of me leaving. I told her that I didn't want to, but that I would get back here as soon as I could. Savah said that she understood, but that she still didn't like it. I smiled and told her that the radios should help, and that if I was lucky, I'd find a way to get a copy made of my phone this time and then we could communicate better. Savah smiled with that and we finished up on our preparations.
We got everything ready for another night of movies and relaxation. I got the equipment ready and loaded up Captain America. I started playing, but stopped and announced to the people of the household. When everything was ready, we got the movie loaded up and playing. After the movie was done, I got some questions from them about if this was a practice that could be done here. I started to tell them that it could not, but then thought back.
Maybe this place has the technology or magic to do something similar. I told them all that I'd have to look into it further. After everything that I've been through, I can't discount the possibility after all. I told them that I'd check into it at the Runeforge to see if there are any notes of it. We all departed from the common room and Savah and I went to our bedroom. We set up all of our gear in the appropriate areas and headed to bed.
